Great, great service. My ebike got a flat taking my daughter to school (luckily we were only a couple blocks away). I searched and found Richard's, the only place that would come to me. I met their tech a couple hours later at the bike, and he loaded up and took it to the shop. Then the owner, Richard, dropped it off at my house that night! It has been years since I submitted my initial review. After yesterday's experience, I needed to share my thoughts. I had dropped my bike off the previous day to get my front break fixed. The fact that it was ready for pick-up (at a very reasonable price) the next was great; but what really made this experience worthy of 5 stars is that Richard took time to explain to me what could have caused the issue. Since it happened after I used my new bike rack for the first time, he shared with me the potential cause and educated me on how best to place our bikes. Who knew I could blow a tire if it stayed to close to the exhaust pipe??? All in all, Richard demonstrated exemplary customer service. read more

Bought my dream bike here. Actually my dream TRIKE. My first recumbent Trike, a Catrike Expedition. I called several places that sold recumbent trikes but the other places either did not have them in stock. Or they required an appointment to go look at them. WTH? We Drove 57 miles to the Richard's just because he was so nice to my wife on the phone. And just said " yes we have them, just come on down". Bought the trike the same day and picked it up the next week (Assembly required). They have a massive assortment of bikes including difficult to find ones like mine. From what I have read, Richard is the man when it comes to bikes and I highly agree. read more

This place is awesome! I brought my bike over with what I thought was a flat tire. The owner came out to my car with a bike pump and no charge got me all fixed up. Unfortunately, it ended up being a bit more than just a flat so I brought it over two days later. They fixed it and did a once over to ensure the bike was working properly. I've been to other shops in town and one charged me over $100 during the pandemic and did practically nothing. Richard's only charged me for the tire repair and 1/2 price for the maintenance check...$40 and I'm all set! I can't recommend them enough!!! read more

We came in here on a Monday morning midst COVID-19 crisis because I needed new pedals for my dad's Walmart mountain bike. We got there at 9:30 and we didn't know the store wasn't opened until 10 but Richard still let us in and helped us out. He took his time to explain all the different bicycle manufacturers. I wish I had taken a picture inside the store because he has bicycles for everyone! We've decided that Richard's Cyclery will be our go to place for all things bicycle related. I ride an older "Motobecane" that desperately needed new brakes, my double brakes had already dismantled and fallen apart. I had my local bike shop tell me they can't fix it so i came here to Richard's Cyclery! With out a second glance, Richard was able to tell me everything that needed to get done on my bike & i was surprised that my local shop had such a tough time trying to figure out it. Richard is really good at what he does. Within a week, i had my bicycle back with brand new brakes & my handlebars wrapped with new tape! Had to get a new tube for the little guy's bike. He got a new one for Christmas so the older smaller one can now be used as a strider. But the front tire was flat we need a new tube. Richard sized it replaced it pumped it up and I was leaving the shop in less than 10 minutes. Super fast and friendly service here at Richard's. Plus he advised me exactly what to do with the training wheels ... add rubber or duct tape around outside to make them quieter when raining on the concrete pavement down by the beach. Richard is amazing!!!! I bought a recumbent trike for my stroke survivor wife. She has severe weakness and severely limited movement in her left arm and hand. I live about 50 miles from Richard's shop. I called him and asked about options to allow her to brake more effectively and also be able to set a parking brake that the trike has. What I learned is that Richard has years of experience providing the Veteran's Administration's patients with similar limitations and has solved some very serious challenges. I brought my wife and the trike to Richard. He quickly evaluated my wife's abilities and went to work researching possible options. He quickly ruled out option one because of the trike's configuration. He is currently reaching out to the trike manufacturer to see they have ready-made solutions. My wife had a trial ride at a dealer closer to our home. That dealer didn't acknowledge a problem moving from the brake lever to the parking brake lever. He also didn't see a problem with her using a derailer to shift. I contacted an out-of-state dealer and bought the trike equipped with a dual-pull lever system. But the problem of moving her functional hand to the parking brake was a problem that led to a small accidental collision but revealed a true safety hazard. Richard spent loads of time talking with us and is currently chasing two options. He has freely shared his time and his deep knowledge. We still don't have a solution but he is "on it." I have loads of confidence that he will come up with a way for her to ride safely. I can say that you will rarely find a bike shop that will accept the challenge as Richard has. I am so surprised and happy that I called and met him. read more

I usually hate writing negative reviews, but I think it's worth letting people know what to expect when dealing with Richard's Cyclery. I went to Richard's Cyclery with a set of hubs and rims that I needed to have laced up. Before dropping everything off, I called to make sure they would be able to procure the specific parts I wanted for my wheel build. So far so good. The following day, I went to the business to drop my parts off. I should have turned around immediately and gone elsewhere without even speaking to anyone. There is junk everywhere and every inch of counter space is covered with old spare worn out parts. If a business whats to instill confidence with patrons, perhaps they should keep their place nice and tidy. I patiently waited for the parts to show up so they can build my wheel, but almost 3 weeks later, they hadn't touched my wheels. They claimed the parts had just arrived, mind you, they ordered the wrong type of spoke and the wrong length. I kindly paid the shop $100 because the person working behind the counter complained about how much DT Swiss Revolution spokes are; again the wrong spokes were ordered as I wanted the Comps. I am going to take my wheels somewhere else. I cannot recommend this place. read more

He has been in the bike business since the 1970s and he knows his stuff. On the last Ebike that I purchased on 3/1/22, he spent a lot of time telling my how to use the bike, get the best range when I am riding and how to handle the bike battery when not in use. I really appreciated the extra advice. He went over and above his call of duty with this transaction and I can't thank Richard enough for his advice. He has his entire staff trained well on bikes, equipment and answering questions. If there were a grade higher than an A on Richards Bike Shop, he would get it from me. This is a great bike shop. I came in for a long overdue tune-up for my green Giant. Richard, the owner, is a real salt of the earth type of guy. He's very knowledgeable and his prices are very fair. My tune-up ended up being $5 less than the quoted price- that's always a nice surprise! And I got my bike back the next day, and all of it's issues were taken care of. 100% great service. We walked in Richard's looking for a replacement tube for my daughter's bike and left with two sweet e-bikes thanks to a very helpful salesman. Spencer was very helpful, showing us all of the features of each bike, listening to our needs and helping us make the best decision for us. We took bikes for test drives, asked a lot of questions and all the while, Spencer's patience showed no bounds. So our purchase isn't where the customer service ended at Richard's, they told us to come back at 30 days and at 6 months for a free tune up. Spencer helped me load my new bike into the back of my car and wished us well. I appreciated all of the help and the vibe that we were welcome to come back at any time or call with questions. Richard knows bikes. Most places I called wouldn't even look at my ebike because I purchased it online. When I called Richard's he said to bring it in and he would at least try to diagnose the problem. When I took it to him, he rode with me and rode it himself to diagnose the noises. He fixed what needed to be fixed and I was noise free. I highly recommend going to him for a bike, parts, or sevice. read more

The couple of times I have done business with this place have both been negative ones. It's likely the kid that works there might be the owner's son or family member and since I have an 18 and a 15 year old myself I totally get that the age brings with it some lack of customer service (not for all but for some), but sheeshh...someone needs to take that kid aside and advise him to be a bit more friendly and welcoming if he's going to work with customers. What a dour, unfriendly kid he is. The times I have taken my son's bike in and dealt with him first I always walk out shaking my head and wondering why dad (if he is the son of owner) doesn't give him a talk about his demeanor with customers.... Secondly, the owner, I am assuming Richard, spent the better part of ten minutes looking upwards at the ceiling where they hang bikes for my son's bike that ended up being stored in the BMX section....not on the ceiling....and this was after he spent an exhorbitant amount of time speaking (a lot of it was personal conversation) to a woman and her daughter that were ahead of us, making us wait far longer than a normal business should ever do to their customers. That is severe pet peeve of mine. If you know a person, don't let it get in the way of keeping your other paying customers from experiencing good service!!!! I don't care if it's your long lost Aunt Minnie, you just don't do that!! Lastly, I paid $15 for a tube replacement which is fair but I also was charged $35.00 for a "Check Over".....I had asked the kid when I dropped it off to make sure the brakes were working good and adjust and tighten everything up.....well, I don't know what they did but the brakes have a horrendous squeal when applied now....it is obvious NOBODY tested it after they did the supposed "check over"..... Someone at Richard's Cyclery needs to explain just what in fact they did to warrant the additional $35.00!! I am going to take my kid's bikes to Papa Wheelie from here on out...a couple of blocks away and MUCH BETTER SERVICE!!! read more

My first review will be of an employee, mechanic, or just the guy who understands recumbents the best, Kevin. I learned that the service department is top notch and they are available all the days and hours the shop is open. Second Kevin is a funny man. H taught me that my other old bikes are Up-wrongs not uprights. I liked this. He also informed that there is a Saturday bike ride for all hands at 8 AM. So here it is folks... I didn't make any purchases and this gentleman did not make me feel I was wasting his time or taking time away from other duties. I'll be back. I am selling my recumbent too make a e- recumbent more affordable. More later. read more
