I went there 2 days ago and it wasn't my first time there.. I had a bowl of tomato bacon basil soup which was very good. I always order a homemade soup. I ordered the main street club which comes with turkey and ham and bacon lettuce and tomato. The menu said stacked a mile high so I figured it would be a decent size sandwich? When they brought it to the table I looked at it and there was only 1 slice of ham and 1 slice of turkey with thick white bread!! It was tasty don't get me wrong but I've had breakfast sandwiches with more meat on them. It was basically a blt with a slice of ham and a slice of turkey and in the middle was 2 slices of cheese. The last time I had a sandwich there it was light on the cold cuts also!! Good quality but poor quantity!!! read more

Ate here tonight because I heard how great the food was and can confirm that it was amazing! I ate the house signature wrap and the lettuce was so fresh! The oranges and cranberries were juicy as well! If you go, you have to try the house dressing with the salad; I could drink a whole bottle of it. I will say one thing, the waitress was a little rude and forgot to add potstickers to our order even though she wrote it down. Yummy! Nice place to get unique specialty sandwiches and old fashioned favorites. Their fries were tasty, and hit the spot. I also enjoyed their cream of broccoli soup. The chocolate cream pie was ok, but I was not a fan of the surprise pecans in the crust or the cool whip like topping. I would have preferred a topping that tasted like homemade whipped cream. They were really busy and clearly understaffed when we came in for a late lunch. Our waiter also worked as the bartender, worked at the desert counter, as the host, and answered the phones. It made everyone have to wait for everything because he had to bounce everywhere. We felt bad he didn't have more help. Also when you enter it is a bit confusing, there is no sign directing you to wait to be seated or that the host will seat you. My family took a day trip out to Afton to try the Main Street Grill and Bakery for lunch based on recommendations and it did not disappoint! Unfortunately, Afton is in the middle of nowhere and this is the only place worth going for. The restaurant itself is very clean with a nice contemporary feel to it. My mother mentioned that the chef is from the Instinct Restaurant in Endicott so if you liked the food there, chances are you'll enjoy this place! I ordered the House Signature Wrap which was a combination of grilled chicken, lettuce, mandarin oranges, dried cranberries, feta cheese, mayo & Lizzy's Sassy Salad Sauce all rolled up in a garlic herb tortilla. I wish I could claim that I remembered all of these tasty ingredients but I cheated and copied and pasted the description from their web site. :) The wrap was delicious - put together very nicely and very moist. I've had some terrible wraps where the ingredients all fall out upon taking the first bite but this wrap stayed nicely together. The "Lizzy's Sassy Salad Sauce" was great and they offer it in take-out containers so it must be popular! I had the side of potato salad to go with my wrap and it was obviously homemade and very tasty. If you go, be sure to save room for dessert. We ordered various slices of cake and they were all delicious. I would go back to the Main Street Grill and Bakery in a heartbeat but the 40 minute or so drive does not make that possible. We have been going to Main Street grill for the last 5 or 6 years and have loved the service food and desert choices. We had a takeout order from there a few week ago and noticed the sandwiches were smaller and so were the cake / pie pieces and didn't think that much about it we were still in the middle of shut down figured they would get back up to speed Like I said we have loved this cute little restaurant and told many of our friends about them. Okay so I ordered take out again the sandwiches were small and sloppy and the slice of pie I ordered was half the size and the price was either the same or a little higher I wouldn't mind a price hike if the food was up to the same standard that was set by Main Street Grill which made the best place around. read more

This is one of my favorite places to eat and I can't believe I haven't posted a review. Reservations are a must because it's always packed. Everything is fresh and homemade. The chef is amazing. I've gotten the Pecan Crusted Bourbon Chicken, The ribs and several sandwiches. Never a disappointment! For an appetizer you can't beat their pot stickers. Don't pass on dessert! It's all homemade and even if we are too stuffed, we get something to take home. Favorites are their Chocolate Cream Pie, Banana Cake, Coconut Cake and Carrot Cake. My husband says the Carrot Cake is the best he's ever had. In the Fall go for the Pumpkin Cheesecake! Wow, did I just write a whole paragraph on dessert? YEP! It's that good. One of my favorite restaurants in the area. They've got a great array of bistro foods. The back of their menu changes monthly to accommodate the change in seasons: a set of specials is often paired with in-season vegetables. They always have at least one vegetarian and one fish entrée, in addition to their lovely standard menu with sandwiches, soups, and salads topped with the owner's homemade dressing. The owner really has a knack for creating dishes with a balance of flavors. My friends usually twist my arm into ending our meal with the Grill's homemade desserts, such as raspberry cake, cream puffs, or carrot cake. A small town atmosphere with a fairly big town food selection. I'm not that familiar with NYC eateries, so I can't make a fair comparison with them. I have heard several voices say it's like a touch of "the city" in a small town. Maybe it's true, but I've seen similar in various college towns around upstate. Of course, there's no college in close proximity to Afton, so that may be the distinction that sets the Grill apart. The sriracha chicken sandwich was delicious. A bit to large to bite, so I took it out of the bun and ate it with a fork. The potato wedges were tasty but over-cooked. My wife's hamburger was excellent. We took a few of the fabulous deserts home. All were exceptional, and high priced. The owner joined us at our table, and was charmingly delightful. All in all, our lunch experience was gratifying. We'll return to the Afton Grill & Bakery, especially when in the mood for a ride in the country culminating in a pleasant dining experience. read more

I can't even remember what I ate here because the neglect from our waitress was so significant...I even made sure my husband tipped at 15%...THAT'S HOW BAD THE SERVICE WAS! (for the record, I'll tip a "limited," but friendly waiter 20% because the actually give a sh#@!). I do vaguely remember a chocolate cheesecake that was really good. Pleasant surprise. Met my daughter here for mid point hand-off and decided to grab a bite to eat. Decent wine selection (could add a couple more higher end selections) picked a very affordable Malbec. I started with a traditional chicken noodle soup and my daughter had a well presented mixed green salad. Both were solid but not spectacular. My daughter had a perfectly cooked (medium) Sirloin Steak topped w/ caramelized onions, a side of mashed potatoes and grilled squash. All delicious. I had the sauteed sole topped with 2 mini crab cakes. Served with rice and the squash topped with a very nice white wine sauce. Sole was solid but, the crab cakes were great! all crab with little binder. We split a very rich / delicious desert that I can't recall the name. By far my best excursion off Rt.88 in a long time. Vegetarian options, seafood options, pasta, steak, salads, wraps, sandwiches... and the prices are reasonable!! Their house salad dressing is delicious, and you can pick up a bottle of it while you are there. They change their menu each season, and have unique daily specials. You can tell that they have real talented chefs create the menu and cook the food. The service is top of the line! The staff is friendly. I never felt ignored or had to wait a long time for my food. The desserts are the best! If you have a sweet tooth, you will love their selections. They are unique and scrumptious, which makes it hard to decide what to get. Nothing is ordinary at this place! Who would have thought there would be such a quaint little place nestled in the small town of Afton. Right off of Main Street is where it resides. If you are going for dinner I would suggest making reservations as once you enter you will see it's not too big. We made reservations for 4:30 and it wasn't busy however an hour later it was filling up. We choose the Queen Prime Rib with Mash Potatoes, green beans for first dish. Our second was the Blackened Scallops, quinoa and green beans. While sometimes when you order steak well done you can get a tough piece of meat. Not here it was cooked really good with no pink but still really juicy. The scallops were delicious with the quinoa and a sauce that I can't remember. While the wine list is weak had a glass of Kendall Jackson to go with the meal. Salad or soup comes with the meal and a bread basket. Don't fill up too much. The bread was great with wheat and white rolls. There was also a great pumpkin bread in the basket that I enjoyed. Hopefully you save room for dessert as you can pick from the selections as they don't have a dessert menu. After looking at the counter choose the cocunut pie and lemon cake. Both were delicious!! The pie had a great coconut flavor. Just the right amount. The cake was very moist with lemon like pudding on top and inside. The staff was great. It's very difficult to come by a place that makes homemade cakes and desserts. You will not be disappointed, I truly appreciate it.
