I asked him to call the owner since i had a different deal with him on the phone before going there and since he was out the employee gave me a different price. I asked him to call the owner. He went inside and came back saying that he wouldn't take my offer. I left and called back a month later and made a tiny bit lower offer because it had been there for a while and i don't see why not you can't just make a lower offer since it didn't sell. Considering this place had so many high reviews (not too sure why), I don't feel bad about giving this one-star out after a very poor experience with one of the main pawn employees/owner, not sure which. I was in the market for a reciprocating saw, of which they have many, however, their tools are far too expensive. Seriously, you can go online and get them cheaper, NEW. So, I told the guy, showing him an ad for the same brand and type of saw. He makes up some BS about how his is better or whatever, won't go cheaper, but will sell me another saw for a comparable price. All fine and dandy, he puts the saw in front of me and I say, "Okay! But- let's test it". He immediately puts it away, and why? He later says it was broken. He tried to sell me a broken saw. Then he tries to sell me another, but the saw blade was completely wobbly when the motor was turned on, clearly a bad saw. "They all do that". I say no. "Thanks for wasting my time, asshole". Oh boy. TLDR: Employee/owner tries to sell me a broken saw, then a horrible quality saw, then curses me out for wasting his time. Won't be coming back here that's for sure. Better prices and quality goods elsewhere, don't bother with this place. Seriously, just look online at the same products and notice how they are more expensive here- USED. read more

Very helpful!! They really helped me out with a loan against some camera lenses when I got in a bind from a medical expense. Their loan terms are very fair and they gave me a good price. I was nervous because it was my first time there and first time doing a pawn shop loan, but the gentlemen who helped me were very courteous. I think one of them might have been the owner, or at least the manager, and they both were attentive to myself and other patrons. I do a lot of business with pawn shops, and I go completely out of my way to get to Maine Pawn Shop, because so far, hands down, this is the best shop I've been able to find in the greater LA area. First and foremost, they do a 60 day no interest promotion on jewelry and that's no gimmick, and there's no catch. Already, with just that promotion, they blow their competition out of the water. Nobody comes close to a promotion like that ... it's unheard of! Plus they have all sorts of other good promotions for various types of goods. Also, these are really good people, with big hearts, a good attitude, people that work really hard and actually take pleasure and pride in being helpful. Friendly atmosphere, no pressure, and they're honest, fast, and blunt. No weaseling around ... these guys (and lady) put their money where their mouth is. They don't get intimidated by expensive stuff, and are willing to dedicate time and attention to abstract items. This review is only for the jewelry section of the place. I went to five other pawn shops and none of them had nearly as many rings or watches as this place. I also went to the jewelry district in L.A and the rings in my price range had very thin bands, they seemed brittle. I had my own diamond all I wanted was the ring to mount my diamond on. I didn't not find anything there I left disappointed. I was looking for a diamond 14K gold ring and I found it here, I paid $100 less then the price they appraised it for. It was $450.00 I asked what's the absolute lowest they can leave it. I was able to drop it to $350 with a little bit of negotiating. The guy helping me seemed monotone but he did his job, I guess that's all that matters right? On my first visit I dealt with a lady and she was very nice and very patient considering I went a few minutes before closing time. The people were nice and helpful, if you're willing to haggle then you should since they seem to be willing to drop prices. My mom also payed for a pearl ring, Im assuming it's layaway. I've never been to other pawnshops so I don't know if that is common. This place had a huge variety of rings, diamond, pearl, gold, silver(that was in another section). I recommend this place if you don't mind buying a used engagement ring or wedding band. read more
