We've ordered from Mainland India a few times since the pandemic started, and they have been extra careful with taking COVID precautions. Their food is delicious, the butter masala, chili fish and chili shrimp made keto style are a few favorites! (We tried the chili appetizer regular/not keto and it was good, but give the keto one a try for an even better treat!). Minus one start because delivery times are loooooong (up to two hours). The last time we ordered we did so ahead of time to make sure we didn't eat too late... it was 20 minutes early. We'll keep ordering but have a snack ready to go if we need it! :D read more

I nearly cried when my favorite restaurant closed several years ago. I loved the food so much I rarely ate elsewhere. I all but gave up trying to find a replacement, especially for Indian food. The first solid food I ever ate when I was a baby was lamb curry, so you could say I have a taste for good Indian food. This is by far the best tasting Indian food I have had in the 16 years I've lived in Chicago. Never have I ordered something from Mainland India that wasn't bursting with flavor and spice. A hidden gem! We came for the first time tonight (Sunday night) and everything was delicious! Fresh ingredients, homemade and authentic! It is rare to find a spot that has both North and South Indian offerings and can execute both so wonderfully. My husband ordered the goat curry, I had a plain dosa and the accompanying sambar was the BEST! So glad we saved room for the dessert- you haven't had gulab jamun till you try theirs! The rasmalai was delicious too. My kids had tandoori shrimp, bhatura and paneer makhani and everyone cleaned their plate! The service was great and the place was spotless. --Update: At the request of the owner my boyfriend, his mom, and myself returned to the restaurant. The food this time was much better. We made sure to ask if they had lamb this time and they did. The wait time on the food is still a bit lengthy, but not too bad. My boyfriend's mom had the daal soup (listed under appetizers). I can't remember the exact name, but she loved it. She said it reminded her of the way her mom made it as there was ghee in it. I had a taste and it was delicious. The masala dosa she ordered was okay. The sambar was bitter and lacked flavor. She wasn't all that impressed by it. My boyfriend finally got his lamb vindaloo that he had been wanting. He said he liked the dish, but it ended up being way to spicy. He was out of water and had to go to the bathroom to put some in his mouth. The waiter gave us some raita that helped cool down the spice. We had the manchurian as we well and it was really nice. Flavor was great. I had paneer again and this time I asked for it to be made spicy. There was more spice than last time, but not enough for my tastes. I wish the spice from the vindaloo was added a bit into mine! Overall, our experience was much better. Tonight we ordered delivery from Mainland India, delivery was on time, and packaged well, no spillage everything was double wrapped. Hyderabadi chicken masala is amazing, the chicken is the most tender chicken I've ever had at any Indian restaurant. It's rare to find beef dishes on Indian restaurant menus when I saw the beef Ularthiyathu I had to try it and I'm so glad I did, it was delish! Came for the buffet. This location is on the corner of Dempster and Milwaukee, it used to be a greek spot before, and now its a Indian restaurant. Although the location is kind of inconvenient there actually is ample parking on the west side of the lot. There seemed to be little effort put to make this place have any Indian personality, its very ambigous looking, inside and out. But the food is pretty solid. I would say the south Indian dishes are their specialty, its spicy and has a whole lotta flavor. Not much Vegetarian options for the buffet but I'm sure you can order those ala carte. Although I feel this is more catering restaurant, if you like non veg south Indian food at a great price you will love it here. read more

The Vegetable Korma was amazing- I recommend mixing it with another item because it's so rich but just delish. I enjoyed the fried cauliflower appetizer a lot, and palak paneer. The food was a 4. The service was a 3. If you want South Indian food, the food tastes pretty similar to what I eat at home! I went for the lunch buffet where there was typical keralite dishes as well as naan and butter chicken, with mango lassi as well. The service could have been better. Because the restaurant has two sides, the waiters didn't notice the other side as easily at first. Absolutely delicious! Our family ordered a lot of food (through a 3rd party delivery service) as I was recovering from a surgery in a nearby hotel. We ordered butter paneer masala, chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, samosas and a couple soups. The butter paneer masala was our favorite. The atmosphere is very nice. Pretty colorful lights and Indian music on a screen create a nice night ambience. The guy who took our order was very helpful and nice. The staff members were so sweet. My party ordered the king fish curry and they said it was very strong smelling and very fishy, but this is probably just a cultural difference. The party I was with was also p referential to mild tasting fishes and this fish in particular was out of their comfort zone cuz they are uncultured. Thankfully the staff was so sweet about it and were quick to replace it no problem and they were very genuinely friendly and made great casual conversation. They replaced it with a shrimp dish we wanted. I wanted sambar off the menu and the staff offered to make it free which was very nice. The sambar was sooo good. It was very spicy but in a good way. They did not have a few items from the menu so he was very helpful in accommodating and giving other recommendations. We went for dinner. The butter chicken masala was great a little sweet compared to other butter chicken dishes I have tried but it was delicious. I do not eat seafood but my party said it was some of the best they had ever had and it looked really good though. The garlic naan was smackkk! So good!
