I read through some of the negative reviews and they are obviously fake. I've been here a few times and the food has been consistently good. The owner Jun has a sarcastic sense of humor. I understand that we live in a time where American gen z gets offended by everything. Some of the reviews are just plain dumb, they didn't even eat anything or they walked in and walked out. This review is from someone that actually experienced it. We came on a Saturday night around 7:40 pm. There were only a few occupied tables. Two large groups and one couple. The ambiance was laidback with good music. It was only loud because the two large tables were laughing annoyingly, loud. The young Asian table drank one sip of beer and all of a sudden, their laughter echoed throughout the whole place. I'm Asian myself but I can hold my alcohol. The parking lot is shared since it's in a strip mall. To clarify, we did have to wait 50 mins before we started receiving our food. I believe Jun was the only chef and he made everything from scratch. He finished serving the other tables before he got to our order. FYI, Jun said the prices haven't been updated on the printed menus. I would say 4.5 out of 5 is good. I only took off half a point because the two large tables' laughter were cringy and vexing. We ordered bulgogi tacos, o-deng tahng (fishcake soup), garlic chicken wings, and sweet potato fries. -bulgogi tacos 5 - it says 3 on the menu but you actually get 4. Each taco is packed with the same amount of meat as the others. The chips and the housemade salsa are good too. -o-deng tahng 5 - the fishcake soup is so colorful and the broth has a mildly spicy flavor. This can be shared between 2-3 people. Highly recommended. -garlic chicken wings 5 - they are much larger than what you see in the picture. They are very meaty and I like that you can actually smell/taste the garlic. -sweet potato fries 5 - I loved how small and skinny they are, yet they are mighty in flavor. Quite a surprise for me since the photos of this spot suggest that this is an obscure dive bar. But the food here is beyond passable bar food -- and is actually very good. The atmosphere here is definitely unique, unlike most restaurants, and even bars in the suburbs. Definitely great if you're someone who is into sports, comic books, and also likes to discover hidden gems. Service here is best described as prompt but sassy, but also something that can't be accurately described (in a good way) and just needs to be experienced in person. I'm not exactly sure if there's a menu, as the regulars seem to already know what to order - but this is something that can be researched online and is both bolder in flavor and more interesting than what you can typically find in a bar, or Korean restaurant. Kind of a fusion between familiar and tasty American bar food -- but with Korean influences to elevate the flavors. All the food I tried here shined both in texture and flavor. The seafood pancake had a great crisp on the outside and generous amounts of seafood inside. It was packed with tasty herbs and a slightly chewy texture that was still fantastic after I reheated it the next day. The Korean fried chicken used large wings and drumsticks, which really helped to provide more tender and moist meat than some local competitors. This was super crispy, possibly more crispy than similar options at Bonchon and CM chicken. A small warning for the spicy options, as this is a higher spiciness level than what many people may be used to with fried chicken. The kimchi fried rice has a great mix of egg, kimchi, and seasonings that create a delicious dish even for those who may not particularly care for the flavor profile of kimchi. Putting the flame torch to the egg and rice adds a good smokiness to the dish, and the mix of onion and egg really adds a lot of umami to the dish. Overall, this is a unique dining experience and worth a visit as the food is flavorful, inexpensive, and well executed. Especially worth a visit for anyone who likes bar food but wants something a bit higher quality and packed with flavors -- this is definitely not the menu you'd find at a traditional Korean spot. read more

BDG Sports Gastropub is the definition of a dive bar if a dictionary could come to life. When I walked in I could hardly tell that the lights were on and that it was even open. The decor is sports theme mixed with Christmas but they have the most amazing food! The chef cooks food inspired by his mother's cooking. Their chicken wings are gigantic. Close to half a chicken in each piece. We also had the mixed mandoo, bulgogi tacos, and the kimchi fried rice. The dishes take a while to come out because they are made fresh for each order. The chicken is brined for 48 hours. All of the food is cared for and it comes out in the cooking. The chef made our food less spicy just for our table! We came in to watch the NBA finals and wow what a hidden gem! It's in a very unassuming plaza but the vibes were totally on point! It's kind of a divey sports bar, with a very friendly and personable owner, and extremely chill vibes. But still a good time! I am kind of a low key person and don't like overcrowded places when I like to enjoy some booze so this place was right up my alley. They serve Korean-American fusion foods. We got the garlic and Asian zingy gizzards and they were so tasty! Also got the sweet potato shoe-string fries and I couldn't stop going back for more. Honestly would come back just to enjoy the fusion foods because it was definitely delicious (they have some traditional and authentic Korean dishes too)! I feel like many Korean American places popping up may have similar concepts in terms of fusion foods but the execution here is on a different level. Absolutely amazing. They do NOT skimp on the proportions of their gyoza. The owner was very knowledgeable and explaining to us new customers the different types of Korean cuisines he grew up with. I could tell they were short staffed when the waiter commented about their four burner stove. Despite the wait, I thought that the food was phenomenal. Note that my group of friends probably picked the best foods on the menu given the amount of times they've been to the restaurant. Personally, my favorite dishes were the Ya Chae Soo Jae Bi (soup), Crispy Maek Juk and Seafood Jun. The soup was very flavorful and was filled with fresh, quality ingredients. The Crispy Maek Juk was crispy on the outside and had the right amount of chew. I was also very impressed by the Seafood Jun in that they used size-able chucks of octopus. One slight recommendation is to turn up the lighting in the dining area. Otherwise, I would definitely return to try other things on the menu. read more

I should have written a review on BDG a few months ago, when my kids and I first tried this place but I was not really happy with the super long wait for our food. There was a big group of women who came at the same time as we did, so I guess the orders to the kitchen came all at the same time. The lay out inside is kind of confusing for me because there is a big space going towards the bar area and there are a couple of booths on one side and high tables and seats on the other side. I guess since it is focused more on being a bar rather than a place to dine. I decided to try this place again with a friend one Saturday night. We came around 7:30pm and sat at the bar, where a couple of people were eating and drinking. Jun, the owner/chef/bartender greeted us and was like our long time friend until we left a few hours later. He was not just a chatty and funny person, but he is very dedicated and intense about his food and his place. He explained the process, ingredients, and what makes the dish unique...while he personally served the food to us. Here are the items that I have tried on my visits. BULGOGI BURGER- Huge! You would not be asking for more meat here. The bulgogi is very tender and flavorful. The tater tots that came with, were also great. STIR FRIED SPICY OCTOPUS- Perfect amount of heat in the sauce and the octopus had great texture. SPICY PORK TACOS- Delicious. The pork was tender and had amazing kick in it. Everything that was on top of each taco gave so much flavor and texture in each bite, without overpowering the meat. FRIED CHICKEN (Spicy House Sauce)- Outstanding. GRILLED EEL- Excellent. The side of radish also cleanses your palate from the sweet sauce on the fish. BULGOGI TACOS- The house made kimchi is phenomenal! This goes in each taco instead of the usual taco toppings. At around 8pm, people kept coming in and they are mostly in groups so the vibe of the whole place became loud, happy and fun. Most of the guests were there to drink and a few ordered something to eat. Each dish that came out looked and smelled amazing. I would like to try one of their kimchi soups next time I come, because everyone seemed to be ordering and loving them. I would definitely go back, both to eat and also to just have a laid back bar experience. Another plus is that it is so closeby and no problem with parking. I will continue to support this small and local business, which is owned and ran by a good-natured and passionate guy (who also loves taking and giving whiskey shots). 'Til next time! read more

On a Friday 6:30pm, it was pretty empty until about 8 pm and people started to steadily trickle in. I was surprised at how busy it got. Lots of Korean fusion foods on the menu like bulgogi tacos. Donkatsu burger: recommended by the waitress. It was larger than I thought it would be. You could share it with a friend. The bread crumbs were crispy and the meat itself was juicy. Came with pickles, tater tots and some spicy mustard sauce. Fruit Soju pitchers: comes in a large pitcher with Soju shot glasses. Ordered the watermelon and strawberry. It seemed like they used real watermelon because of the foam you see when you make smoothies. The foam takes a bit of space and you get less so I recommend the strawberry over watermelon. The drinks are easy to drink so be careful because it'll creep up on you. Good place to hangout with your friends. It's a small place, but there were plenty of seats. Service could have been a little better. If you need something quickly or need to order, finding the server would be quicker. read more

Tried Spicy octopus stir fry today. It's quite SPiCy! But the flavor was amazing! The octopus legs were fat and fresh, tender, but a bit chewy for me but my hubby loved it! I really liked the veggies and the mushroom cuts in the stir fry. Super fresh and tasty. We learned from last time to order rice on the side today instead eating just the dish. This place is a hidden gem in a sea of sub par suburban food. It's been on my list for a while and finally got to try it out. Music is great not your typical dive bar music, staff is warm and approachable, and their menu is Korean so you know it's going to be made with heart. This place turned out to be a delightful hole-in-the-wall hidden gem type neighborhood pub find. The pub has a delectable and delicious Korean fusion pub menu and a dark, chill and relaxed, and cozy atmosphere. The interior is belied by its very unassuming and ordinary storefront appearance in a dated strip mall. It was quiet (we were the third group) when our party of 4 came in for a 6pm Saturday night dinner, and we later learned peak hours tend to be in the 9-10pm range for their clientele. Our party had: - bulgogi burger with a fried egg, and tater tots ($13.50, my dish) - Korean fired chicken ($17.95, wife's dish) - Chicken wings (done American style) ($12.95, pal's dish) - tonkatsu burger with tater tots ($13.98 , pal's dish) I also had a Red Horse beer (8.0% ABV) which is an extra strong lager brewed by San Miguel in the Philippines. It was ok to try (I prefer hoppier but willing to try something new), and you wouldn't think it was as high as 8.0% ABV. Wife also went into pub mode and had a Korean Hite Extra Cold lager (4.3% ABV). Everyone enjoyed the dishes, though it was agreed the Korean style chicken was more flavorful and better tasting than the American style wings. I really liked my generous and delicious but sloppy bulgogi burger with its runny fried egg. We chatted a bit also with the friendly 30 year old owner/chef who does it all here including being the server at times. They just hit their 5 year anniversary, so well done on that and congratulations! They have an ok craft beer menu and which features several Revolution beers. They also have several TV's and a bit of a sports theme but the decor is more on eclectic side. BDG deserves its high Yelp ratings (and I rounded up my 4.5 rating to 5 stars) and we plan to be back to try more of their delicious and interesting menu. read more

After an epic loss with a dealer at Rivers Casino I decided to make a pit stop before heading back to the city. I am a bartender in the theater district and I have a long history with restaurants in River North and Fulton market. The owner June (Jun?) was very welcoming off the bat. I ordered an Old Fashioned and saw him crack open a bottle of club soda for just a splash! I like to watch fellow bartenders make my drink and he made an Old Fashioned the right way. To top that off he treated me like a regular and that's rare. There's too much fake news...I'm sorry...I meant too many fake people in this world. Thank you for a great experience June! You made forget about my losses at Rivers. If you and your mom ever find time to come to my restaurant for lunch I would like to show my gratitude for your hospitality. RUDE COSTUMER SERVICE! Apparently the "owner" wont serve us until all our groups arrive. We just ask to sit in the bar instead to get some food and he said still "NO". We exit right away. Everything from traditional Korean to more crossover Americanized items are outstanding. the owner Jun is great and wants to make sure all of his guests are having a great time. This place is awesome! It may not look like it on the outside, but it sure is great on the inside! Their food, their drinks, their set-up - absolutely amazing! Their servers were very nice and accomodating too. No matter how busy they were, they checked on us from time to time to make sure we didn't need anything. When we ordered drinks, the server also told us the best deals for us to save money. They also have a beer pong playing area. Just difficult to play cause once a group starts playing they don't stop playing. Just be sure to be ready to spend 'cause the more fun you're having, the more you order and the bigger your bill (obviously). :D If you're looking for a good time paired with good food and drinks, this is the place to go to. Hidden Gem! Bar food with a Korean flare at it's finest! With having a party of 9 with ages ranging from 9 to 70, I was hesitant to consider a gastropub for my birthday dinner with the fam, but I was having a taste for some Korean cuisine and the pictures on yelp were so inviting. It was my birthday afterall! I gave them a ring and learned that kids are allowed til 8pm. Phew! We walked in to warm smiles of the super friendly owner and a waitress. The place was low lit, but had plenty of bright colorful bar signs and party lights all around. Music was playing, but it was obnoxiously bar loud. There's a fair amount of tables on right side, a long bar height tables on the left side and a long open walkway right down the middle straight to the bar. It looked like a bar, but the experience definitely didn't feel like we were in one. Even the dishware and silverware seemed fancy with the spoons having a paper covering, chopsticks with their logo, buckets for discards and plastic gloves to keep our fingers clean. Wow! It was empty being fairly early on a Monday (and a holiday) evening, so we were luckily given superstar attention and service straight from the owner. As we looked over the menus, the owner described almost every menu item, from the spices used down to the way it was prepared. Most of the items he described and we inquired about were his own recipes. He even mentioned the "secret menu". Man, every description he gave we said "ohhh" to and it literally made our mouths water. We ordered it all, seriously, every single dish he mentioned. Not one person was left disappointed. Everything was truly amazing with an abundance of delicious, but not overpowering flavors. I'm not one for spicy, but these dishes had a slight kick that made me going back for more. We had the Korean style whole fried chicken with their house dipping sauce; the wings marinated in sweet oriental sauce (fave) and garlic sauce; bulgogi tacos; the "secret menu" items of panko crusted spam bites; bulgogi and topped hot dogs; and kimchi fried rice. We checked this place out solely based upon Yelp reviews. Went on a Sunday around 6:30. The owner/chef/manager/bartender Jun took care of us. We wanted to try Soju and Jun recommended a nice bottle. Smooth and strong, very enjoyable. We tried the shrimp tacos (everyone's favorite), the Korean Bulgogi tacos (too spicy for the teenagers but the rest of us loved them), kimchi tots (tasty but heavy), wings (a big hit) and kimchi fried rice with spam (completely unexpected yet delicious). There were many other dishes we wanted to try but this was a lot of food for our party of five. Portions are quite large, great for sharing. Atmosphere was dark and sports bar-ry, exactly what other reviews and pictures showed. So glad we decided to try it! We will absolutely be back to try more menu items! read more
