As most of you know last week was SpaWeek and you should all know that I heard it first from Yelp. Viva Yelp! I called Thursday afternoon hoping for an appointment but expected to be told they were booked since all the Boston spas were. To my surprise I was able to book the Pumpkin Peel Facial and oh my..my skin looked great after. Let me tell you about this place before going into detail about my facial. Maison is an old renovated house with a porch in the front and every room is beautifully decorated. I walked in and the service desk was to my right and so was a bowl of Hersey Kisses. I was greeted with a smile and led to the seating area where there were a few women already sitting there. A couple were in comfy robes and snacking on the cheese and grapes on the coffee table. Another woman was relaxing with a magazine. The receptionist offered me coffee, tea or lemon water. I accepted the water. I felt good already. A few minutes later I was led upstairs by Annmarie who was so nice. She massaged my neck and shoulders during the facial and even went so far to massage my arms and hands while she was waiting for my mask to dry. I've been to many different places but this is by far the best for a wax- the girl who did it was very funny and nice, and made the experience as pleasant as it could have been. This place is GORGEOUS inside, and caught me off guard (especially compared to the stretch of road it's located on). Love this spa. My friends and I have come here usually twice a year and every time we've been here, the service has been excellent. We always get several services done on the same day and they seem to be able to accommodate all or our requests. The massage was great and they really put a lot of time when you're getting your manicure and pedicure there. We're always happy when we leave this place. The only complain that I have is I wish they would have allowed to put the tips on the credit card payments as that would have made things much easier. If this is your first time there, I suggest you bring some cash for tips as they don't allow you to put tips on the Credit Card but that's just a minor thing. Can't wait to return! I had visited this Spa a few times for the Spray tanning and had great results but just recently went in with my sister for a Manicure and pedicure. I was visiting a friend in the Boston area and she heard about Maison Esthetique as being a very elegant spa but still very friendly and welcoming. We had an appt during the recent cold and snow snap and hoped they would be open. They were and it was a level above any spa I have ever been to. As many of the reviewers have stated, it is in the style of an old Victorian house, but one of the nail technicians told us it was newly constructed to look that way. It is kind of intimidating when you first walk in and they take your coat and hang it up. Just as if you walked into a friends house. They offer you water, coffee or tea and you get seated in a very beautiful sitting area again that looks like a living room. It was only a few minutes before our nail technicians greeted us and then took us into the area they do manicures and pedicures. It has lots of windows and even on a cold snowy day like today it was bright and cheery. Laurie my technician was very nice and gave me one of the best French pedicures I have every had. The white tips were perfect and just the right thickness. My friend had french nails done and they two were beautiful. As one of the reviewers stated, they can't put any tips on the charge so take cash for that purpose. I could go on and on but again, the other reviewers are the reason we tried it and I am so glad we did. Oh, the prices are not much more then you would see for most nail salons, even though this place does much more. I felt a few extra bucks was well worth the pampering and elegant atmosphere you are surrounded by. First Facial A wonderful Experience! I bought a Living Social coupon due to the reviews and I was not disappointed. The spa is located in a house right on the main street. The receptionist was very pleasant, offered me a drink and pointed out I can hang my coat in the foyer. The waiting space was very elegant and comfortable, lots of reading material. Jeff, my facialist, was very nice, making me feel comfortable and relaxed for my first facial, a papaya peel. He explained all the steps upfront prior to the treatment, then at the start of each procedure.The facial massage as he applied the creams were SO relaxing, plus he also gave me a shoulder massage while waiting for the peel to do its thing. He made conversation, jokes and made the whole event really enjoyable. He did not try to sell me products, only suggested, but I bought some anyways! I will be back because Jeff was so caring and great at what he did, and the spa was very relaxing. The prices are reasonable given the space and the service. read more

I got a spafinder gift card and was SO excited to use it. I had needed a shellac mani and this was the best way! The spa is BEAUTIFUL. They were VERY sweet and pleasant. You are paying for the experience as well as the treatment. I had a wonderful conversation with both girls in there and highly reccomend them. My ONLY complaint was- whatever oil they were burning. I have been to many spa type places and the oil smell is there, just not overpowering. At check in, it was making my head hurt. Halfway though my mani, I was realllllly getting a headache from it. I was even in another room, no where near the stuff. By the time I was driving home, it was a full blown headache. Fast forward to 5 hours later, I had showered and changed and could still smell it in my head. I ended up with a pounding migraine... The only way I got rid of it.... Vicks. A different smell. The spa is beautiful and the staff is so friendly and welcoming. Since I was early for my massage (which I would recommend) i used the jacuzzi tub downstairs where there is also a shower,sauna, and steam room! I had Irina for my massage and it was unforgettable. She really took the time to ask me where id like the massage to be focused and made sure I didn't have any sensitive areas. I would definitely refer a friend or anyone to try Maison. I've visited here twice and had very average service/treatments. For example, the HydroFacial was not the same--not as thorough--as the supposedly exact same branded facial that I have received elsewhere. I've also had a massage here that was fine, but the therapist did nothing to make me feel welcome; I had to stumble around the place finding rooms by myself and was not shown any of the amenities. Anyway, I wanted to treat myself and some friends to a spa day, and I thought I'd try them one last time (the prior appointments were via gift cards given to me by Danvers residents). I have money to spend, but I could not have been treated more abruptly by the man who answered the phone. Some time in the middle of this conversation in which I was being treated like an intrusion, I just decided, "nope." I'll never call or go here again. Looking forward to a very expensive spa day with my friends at a different spa, a place that will welcome us. read more

I went to this spa this past weekend and thought it was very nice. I had a male massage therapist who did an excellent job. Everybody in my party raved about their services. I was torn on rating as the services were just so great it was hard to give only a three star review. So why a three star? First, my very first interaction was with a man on the phone who was not very friendly while I was trying to book and said he would cal me back to let me know if my party could be accommodated. I did not hear from anybody the rest of the day and had to reach out again myself the following day. I spoke with a girl who said she thought we were al set but the other man will call me back. A few hours later my phone call was finally returned and we were booked. Not sure why it took 24 hours to book three massages. Anyways, I confirmed what was requested and all seemed fine. I was also informed to come early as to enjoy the amenities. We arrived about an hour and a half early and checked in to find that our reservations were not accurate. After a few nervous moments everything was straightened out. Luckily because we were so early the stones needed for our massages were able to be prepared adequately. The amenities are nice, but very small. The hot tub fits three people at best and there were about eight of us down there hoping to use it. The locker room was clean but also very small. After our lovely treatments we went to pay. Since nobody informed us that credit cards were not accepted we scrambled for some cash. That would be an important note to tell people on the phone. All in all, this spa is very clean and provides excellent massages. I do not think it is the type of spa that you can spend a few hours at and simply relax between services. The man on the phone as well as the booking process need some work which is why I deducted a star and the amenities being so small and unaccommodating for the majority of the people also led me to deduct a star. read more

I had a facial here recently. I usually get my facials elsewhere (Rowley) but I had a GC for here. I had planned on using it for a massage but decided to get a facial instead. Big mistake. PRO - the room is comfortable My skin felt good after Esthetician was nice CON - pushing of products just a so so facial Where I usually go my facials are $80 & they also use warm mitts on your hands I get that they must make a commission if they sell products but there's nothing relaxing when you spend 10 min discussing it. Went here for a second time in about a year or so with my wife for a couples massage and were very pleased with the two masseuses, Colleen and Jackie, as well as the ambiance they provide for the massage and in the spa area downstairs. We tried to arrive 30 mins before our appt to take full advantage of the spa, but hit inevitable traffic driving north on 128 and got to the spa about 5-10 mins before our appt. The gentleman at the front desk took our info and we sat in the waiting area as our appt time passed and nobody had come to get us. I mentioned this to the gentleman as we would much rather wait in a hot tub than a waiting area and he somewhat rudely said that most people arrive 30 mins before the appt to use the spa. Regardless of that he could have just showed us to the bathrooms to change and be ready for the masseuses when they came up to get us, rather than just have us sitting there wondering what is going on. It was much different than the greeting we received the first time we went there as we were shown to the bathrooms to change right away and the masseuses just summoned us out of the spa when they were ready. It was a bit off putting especially as the first person you are welcomed by at the spa. Other than that, the massages were great and we'll know next time to just make our own way to the bathrooms to change without waiting on any guidance. read more

I am new to the North Shore, so based on the reviews of the previous two people, I decided to check it out. Indeed it is very very nice. The atmosphere is very very relaxing. I almost took a nap as I was getting an eyebrow waxing! Since this was first time to the spa, Rallou (the lady that took care of me) took me around the spa and showed me the different areas. Every room is very nice and serene. Also, there is a room set up for a couples massage. I really liked this spa and I will be going back for sure. My skin is very hydrated now and healthy looking. I was so happy with the results that I bought products for homeuse. Not very usual for me. Just used my Livingsocial deal for a pedicure and massage and LOVED it. The establishment is gorgeous and I was given incredible service. Victoria gave me a perfect pedicure and was kind and attentive-- and I was given a private room! Deanna gave a relaxing but powerful massage :) My only suggestion would be to make sure that new clients know about the spa area! I wasn't told about it (jacuzzi and sauna, I think?) and so I didn't bring a bathing suit. Also add mirrors to the massage suites. read more

First, let me start off by saying that I have high standards and am a lover of all things spa. I visit them in every city I go to because they can make you feel amazing and one day, my dream is to open my own. So, this is research. :) I first went to Maison approx 5 years ago for a facial. It was...okay. Nothing super amazing but I remember it being costly. I've since found an amazing aesthetician who charges a fraction of the amount and I'm so pleased with her so I haven't been back. Last fall, my practice purchased a $100 gift certificate for me for my birthday-they know I love spas. I was a little apprehensive to return to Maison after my first experience but hey, it was already paid for this time. I got a $90, 50 minute massage with Cheryl. My massage was scheduled for 5:30pm so I arrived at 5:20 to make sure I had time to change and be on the table by 5:30. The receptionist offered me a drink and made me a tea which was a nice gesture. At 5:55, I was still sitting in the living room area (Maison is a converted house) with 3 other people waiting. I asked the receptionist if my massage therapist knew I had checked in. She said yes, she would come to get me very soon. At 6:05pm, my massage therapist arrived. There was no "sorry, I'm running behind", no mention of the fact that we were starting my appt. 35 minutes late. As a medical provider, I am very aware of when my patients have waited and immediately apologize if I am running behind. So, I asked, "Do you normally run this far behind?" She responded that normally they have 15 minutes between clients, but not today. (I went on a Tuesday evening). Huh?? Ok. The massage was good, Cheryl has strong hands and this is very necessary for deep tissue massage. Her transitions were a little rough but her demeanor was friendly and overall I thought she was a good massage therapist. The kicker came when I went to pay for my massage. I had $100 gift certificate, the massage was $90. I planned to leave the $10 I had left towards the tip. The receptionist told me I could only leave tip in the form of CHECK or CASH. Ok, when is the last time you carried a checkbook with you? It's 2015 people, they are now called DEBIT cards. As there is nothing on the website which says you have to pay your tips in cash or check, I did not have enough cash with me to give the tip I would have liked to give so I really hope they are paying their employees well. The other kicker? My practice paid $100 and I was only able to use $90 unless I bought another service. I wonder how many additional cash this nets the owners? The cost of doing business for most businesses includes credit card charge fees but Maison doesn't seem to care. So, if you buy a gift certificate for someone to go there, please include an envelope with a check or cash to tip the employee as your loved one will not be able to use the gift certificate to do so. I have a suggestion-instead of placing your gift certificates in 8x5" inch decorative boxes, use a nice envelope and take the extra money and put towards the cost of doing business with credit cards. read more

I went here after reading all of the amazing reviews, and was completely disappointed. I went out of my way to take a friend here for a mani for her birthday. Both of our manis were horrible. From the shaping to the painting. Nails were not even painted to the edges! My friend spoke with a manager about our experience and the manager just made excuses for her tech saying that she had been there forever and has never gotten a complaint. I have been going to Maison Esthetique for the past 5 years and cannot say enough about their services. When you walk through the front door, the decor makes you relax instantly. The amber color and lighting are just divine. I know they used to put out treats on the table...homemade breads, muffins, and fruits, but have not seen those as much anymore which is sad. The massage by Jane is the best I have ever had. It rivals any 5 star resort spa. Their hot tub, sauna, steam room area is fantastic as well. Ive gone here a handful of times over the years and the experience has certainly changed. I do LOVE IRENA AND HER HOT STONE MASSAGES. BUT My husband booked a surprise COUPLES massage for valentines day with me getting an extended hot stone and him getting a 60min deep tissue. We showed up and they had only booked him. The woman at the desk was very nice and offered me a facial which was fine but a disappointment. After my facial (this happened the last time i got a facial there) I was brought to a mirror and shown a basketful of probably $300 worth of face products and told if I could only get a few today to get the two $80 ones. It felt like i was being forced into purchasing items and I didn't even want a facial. When it came time to pay they attempted to charge us full price even though they had completely messed up his valentines surprise. When he brought this up they attempted to blame him saying that he didn't get a confirmation for my massage. I have never not gone somewhere because I didn't get a confirmation text or call. To top it off, when he booked the woman on the phone said she would block my confirmation text in order to keep the surprised. After this they rudely took of the facial. Honestly, we should have walked out at the start but I felt bad because he had worked hard to plan a nice valentines day. They didnt seem to care at all. Before your treatment you can choose to arrive early and take a soak in their hot tub or spend time in their steam room or sauna. I have to admit I am a total spa junkie so I had to try this place. I live in Boston so I drove out to the burbs to get my spa on. It was pretty impressed overall. The reception staff were very welcoming & sincere. It just drives me crazy when the desk staff is either TOO friendly/ fake or act like robots and recite what they are told to by the boss. This was a real greeting by someone who enjoyed working there and it showed! I had a facial & massage and although both were very nice, my facial room was a bit small and I could see the girl had some difficulty working around the table. My pedicure was downstairs and I never say this but it was perfect! The chair, the water temp, the massage and her attention to detail. I had purchased a LivingSocial deal for Maison Esthetique for a Tranquility Massage and Classic Pedicure. Given that I'm three months pregnant, I was able to swap out the Tranquility massage for a prenatal massage, so it was nice they let me do that. Having said that, the prenatal massage wasn't that great. It felt very rushed and weak. Essentially just oil being rubbed on my body. She didn't take much time to actually work on my muscles. I look forward to coming back for a regular massage post-birth. The pedicure was great though! The nail tech, Rosie, was wonderful and I would see her again. I was most impressed, however, with the service given to another patron. A woman who was having a pedicure next to me clearly had a new nail tech who was struggling. After it was done, the new nail tech went home and my nail tech stayed behind to fix the paint job as it just wasn't up their standards. Two thumbs up for that. read more
