Five Stars! For a fabulous experience for dinner. The fifth star is missing on the rating because the Coq au vin blanc was small, dry and over-seared. It did nothing to tinge the welcome and friendly service and the excellence of three of the four meals and shareable. I did not want to spoil the joy of the occasion by quibbling. Our night ended at Maison Margaux for cocktails in the lower level. As this was our first time in the space I quickly knew we needed to come for dinner. The space is beautiful put together and has a very elegant and romantic feel. Truly a must try based on the decor. A very good friend was visiting from out of town this past weekend and we decided to experience Maison Margaux for the first time December 20th (a Friday evening), which turned out to be an excellent choice on all levels. We first ordered drinks and apps in the upstairs bar and then moved to the main dining area upstairs. The atmosphere was vibrant, fun, and classy...and the food was delicious. The staff was tremendous (friendly, engaging, and authentic) from the moment we walked in - Alena the hostess, Joey in the bar, and Amia (?) our server. This is a fun place with great food and atmosphere. All the staff we encountered were upbeat and happy, which translated to great energy and an amazing evening. The vibe is light and cheery, reflecting the whimsical monkey wallpaper. We started in the bar With Margaux Martinis, they were smooth and tasty with gin and a hint of olive brine, served up in whimsical asymmetric glasses. For dinner we started with the scallops, which were delicate and delicious, accompanied by pommes frites and short ribs. For dessert, we had the Fraisier, which was yummy and light, accompanied by rich and flavorful coffee. The presentation was great, the staff helpful as well as knowledgeable, and the food was tasty. Truly one of the most beautiful restaurants in the Twin Cities. The dining rooms are intimate spaces that allow for great conversation. The event space on the second floor is perfect for a private dining event. We so need this space in the city. The speakeasy in the basement is stunning. We sat in the blue room. We started with the fries and cauliflower and a fabulous glass of rose. I had the lamb which was a generous portion and perfectly prepared. We ended our evening with a delicious coconut dessert. Our wait staff were attentive, allowed for us to dine and were eager to please. The passion for this new culinary venture was evident as David Fhima commanded the kitchen and Eli Fhima commanded the dining rooms. Congrats to them and their team. read more

We went for New Year's Eve and absolutely loved our experience. It took a bit later than our reservation to be seated- I think they were still getting used to the new years experience. However they offered us a glass of champagne on the house to make up for it which absolutely did! Our server was so kind and attentive. She provided great recommendations. The scallops were the best scallops I've had in my life. Would HIGHLY recommend. Same with the cauliflower guyere soufflé! My fiancé had the lobster on special and said it was unreal. I had the salmon- it was ok, I've had better salmon, a bit rare for me but I know people enjoy that. The creme bruele is also not to be missed. The wine selection is top tier. Had dinner at MM 12/13/23. One of the worst dining experiences I've had in the Twin Cities. Two of us started with French onion soup that was a salty bomb with onions and a piece of toast on top with melted cheese. Two others had the cauliflower soufflé that was more like soupy mashed potatoes with no distinguishable taste of cauliflower. Entrees- mediocre dover sole and halibut. Thinking I was making a safe choice with the steak au poivre was also a mistake. It was layered with salt/spice and an overbearing sauce that was overpowering the meat which was requested medium but came rare. The room was super loud and the service cheerful but amateurish. I don't often write reviews but because no one asked about our experience- certainly noticing our uneaten entrees. I won't return as there are so many better choices in our Twin towns. read more

For my first time visiting, I loved that they had valet right outside& the vibes/look was super nice. Our server was Nina she took care of us and for how busy it was for Valentine's Day the food didn't take super long to come out. You get bread before your entrees and the food/drinks were good. Music wasn't too loud to the point of where you couldn't converse (hate that) and the bill at the end wasn't crazy for drinks, entrees& dessert. read more

Maison Margaux is a must try for all food lovers. It was such an amazing experience to be able to snag a table on opening night. The experience was impeccable. Ambiance: Beautifully decorated, the Bar on the main floor has this floral edgier motif, while the main dining room is a Lux Brasserie feel with checked floors and amazing chandeliers. The downstairs bar is red room sexy, a cool dark place to slow sip drinks and mingle. Overall the ambiance is ravishing. Food: Traditional French fare, amazing presentation with flavors to match. - Ratatouille, Poulet Rôti- One of the top dishes of the evening. Chicken was beautiful done with a mushroom velouté on top of tomatoes, zucchini and yellow squash. The dish was creamy, earthy and so comforting. - Frog Legs Provençal- Crispy exterior but tender, served with a delicious sauce. - Short Ribs Bourguignon- Tender, fall apart short ribs served on a bed of purée potatoes with tourné carrots. Great dish overall, the red wine was very noticeable. - Rack of Lambs- The winner of tonight's dinner. Beautifully cooked with so much flavor, there were hints of garlic, it was well seasoned and bought together with Dijon. - Poire À L'Armagnac- I just love poached pears for dessert but this was a little difficult to eat with just a spoon. The pear could use an extra minute. Drinks: Wonderful for drinks. - The Margaux Martini- Highly praises and served with a special olive. Per our server the olives are soaked in a special brine exclusive to MM. Order the drink, ask for extra olives. - A Dazzling Light- Love the name. Good with hints of limes and pears. Service: Exceptional service by everyone! Our water glasses were always filled, the manager checked in a few time and even took time to recommend dishes. We ate here last week, marveling at the transformation from the fur & leather shop previously in this location. The food was very good, especially the beef, the onion soup, the martinis. There were a few rough spots: the bread was tasty but covered with flour dust that wound up on our clothes; the pacing of service was a little uneven; the dessert was fresh from the oven (great!) but almost burned our mouths (not so good!). The area we sat in was also rather loud once it filled up with people, though we appreciated the lack of too-common loud background music. It's a brand new place, it will improve. We enjoyed it overall, and will return. read more

The food was very good with the exception of the chicken ratatouille that was filled with small bones. We had to order the chicken because they ran out of the Halibut which was one if the dishes we really wanted to try. I find it disturbing that at 7:45 PM after we ordered it, they could run out of one of only two fish entree's. It is not like Halibut is a hard to source fish. The Tuna Nicoise salad was excellent and the highlight of the meal with the large piece of Tuna served sushi rare. I also enjoyed the Steak Dianne although it was served a tad bit on the cool side. The drinks were excellent including a wonderful take on the Old Fashioned. Service was a bit slow especially between our appetizer and main course. and they ended up charging us for the Halibut that we never got until I notice it and had them redo the bill. Overall Maison is a work in progress. I hope David Fhima can make the changes necessary to make a success of this place as we need more good restaurants in downtown. read more

I really enjoyed the cocktails and food at Maison Margaux. I especially liked the absinthe cocktail. I didn't like the ambiance though, it felt a bit cold to me. I also didn't like that me and my guest were seated at a table right in front of the hostess stand, which meant we were constantly being passed by other customers and staff. I don't think this table should have existed and it seems out of place, but this could have been changed since I visited a month ago. read more

There was a lot of miscommunication getting our party of 4 seated as one host seated our guests in the lower level and us in the upper level without checking the reservation. Definitely a minus on the service side. Food, although pricey, was very good. The service was lackluster with only one server in the downstairs dining room. However, the chairs are ridiculously low for the table height and too deep for comfort. My architect husband and I, an interior designer, couldn't imagine who made such a bad design choice. If you want to be seated in the the lower level, request a booth. read more

Underwhelming dessert, especially considering the price. The space is beautiful; came here in the evening and was seated on their patio. Service was excellent. We ordered 4 desserts: chocolate marquis, pear tart, crème brûlée, and French coconut pie. All of these were pretty average at best. Nothing special, nothing that blew me away. What did blow me away was the pricing: how did that cost $50 pre tip?? You're much better off going to edwards or cafe latte: you'll get much better, flavorful food (and more of it, these weren't large portions of dessert) read more

Bit of a tricky one. We had a nice dinner, but for what it was there were too many disappointments for that amount of money. First of all, our waiter was fantastic and knew everything about everything on the menu and was very attentive. I can't say as much about the rest of the staff. First, the drinks. Only half of us drank, but we all agreed that the drinks were incredibly inconsistent. The first round of drinks and the second round of drinks tasted completely different and when asked about it, they denied it. And these were all different drinks, so there's no consistency these expensive cocktails so beware if you're getting a mixed drink feel free to send it back if you don't taste right, because They tried to gaslight us.. As far as the food went, I think with the exception of the French onion soup which was sweet and hard to eat, the food was all about an eight out of 10. I've been to more affordable French restaurants that were way more authentic and a lower price in bigger cities so this was disappointing. I got the steak Au pouvre. I was surprised that the sauce on top was clingy sweet and consisted mostly a balsamic reduction which overpowered the peppercorns so much that we weren't sure they were peppercorns. The French onion soup which also made no sense. And two people at my table got the rack of lamb and both ordered it medium rare as was suggested by the chef but one came in so rare that it was almost in edible and the other one came in at about medium. Anyway we ended up spending somewhere around $600 for the evening and as we walked away, everybody agreed that we would probably not go back and it was worth about half that. Overall I'm not trashing the restaurant I'm just giving you guys a heads up that it is all cracked up. read more

Went with the bouillabaisse as the main course- grande size- it was larger than I was expecting, so if you are hungry this is a good way to go. The bread they give you is also so good! Really good food, service and experience. The Moules Frites were really good and the serving size was a lot more than expected. We had the Sole Meunière and the Filet Mignon Diane, both were very flavorful. Our server Nico did a great job and we'd definitely come back here. When I entered, I expected the food to be as good as the place looked. And, sadly, it was not. The bread tasted like it was from a cheap grocery store. I ordered the vegan meatball bourguignon. They used frozen meatballs from a well-known brand. It was in a pool of OK sauce with a single baby carrot and a small slice of squash. I actually felt kind of insulted by this. This is corner-cutting "French" food wrapped in a upscale package. The positives? Aside from the nice, though loud, ambiance, the door staff were friendly and accommodating, and my waiter was warm and attentive. I understand if they're trying to stay at a particular price point to remain accessible/viable but I think they can make some adjustments to bring up the quality a bit. read more

HORRIBLE... I will never recommend this place or go back. We had a terribly rude bartender who told us a drink was on happy hour but then when it came time to charging us he acted like we were lying and said he never told us that. Mind you it's not about the money it could have been a simple mistake.. from there though he talked HORRIBLY about us from 5ft away to all his coworkers who were staring at us and did this for so long I finally had to walk up to management to tell them this was not at all appropriate. Had the opportunity to visit last month during a trip to the city. We had an amazing time - food was excellent, vibe was reminiscent of a Brasserie in Paris. Service was great, from the server to the manager taking the time to share us the restaurant and the building's history. Will visit again when in town. read more

Beautiful restaurant and Jake is an amazing waiter. He thoroughly described the menu and was willing to answer all our questions plus give great recommendations. We started with the cauliflower Gruyère appetizer which was excellent and then entrees for our group included the duck, short ribs and the lobster special. The preparation is best in the cities And the toast it is served with - HELLO CHEF crazy good pairing! (BTW - paired with bubbles from Italy - yes!) -Wagyu Filet Mignon (like a Wellington)- SPECTACULAR, we ordered 2 however wish there was more sauce - btw good the next day. Paired with a wine from Lebanon. The game flavor of the meat with this region was nothing less than exceptional. We don't need to order again: Hamburger - I pointed out to Hannah, the server it was overcook and dry - she said sorry, confirmed it look right and i will tell the kitchen. (who cares this was a waste of my money) The Frites - I guess if I had something to dip them in could be moved up to the must have column. AND for dessert...of course you need the Chocolate Souffle. My wife and I went to Maison Margaux tonight to celebrate her birthday. All told, it was a wonderful experience! The staff was very attentive and helpful. The whole place is interesting to look at and makes one feel at ease. But, most importantly, the food was superb! We started with the Plateau De Fruits De Mer which was very crisp and refreshing. Then she had the Pistou Linguini ( a delicious pesto sauce) and I had the Steak Poivre which was done according to the chef's recommendation and is really quite good! Dessert was the French Coconut Pie which was not the presentation we were expecting and totally blew us away. Delicious! I added a glass of the Pierre Ferrand 1840 Eaux De Vie and...a great meal was finished! read more

My review is mixed: the valet, when asked, was unable to direct me to the basement bar; however, the cocktails (once we found it) were delightful and the staff knowledgeable and friendly. In the dining room, our waiter, Bronson, gave us exceptional service, including cocktails, appetizers, entrées, and dessert; the scallops St. Jaques and cauliflower souflée were both amazing; the dover sole and green beans were both over cooked; the creme brûlée was the best I've ever had; however, the chocolate pie and fig dessert were...meh. Nice cozy ambiance. Went and sat at the downstairs bar. Neat place. Poor service. Bartender was inattentive and unwelcoming. Anyway, we decided to give three of the apps a try. Scallops were great! Brie app was good. Ordered side of crostinis to go with it for the melted Brie but showed up after we tabbed out. Tried one of the tuna apps and was not good. Pushed it aside. Discolored and tasted bad. Finished our martinis and cashed out once the bartender was done complaining about any and everything to the servers in the server station. read more

Very disappointing experience. Awesome spot for a new restaurant in North Loop, but the service was incredibly slow and the food was bland. There were 4 of us and not one of us were overjoyed by the food or experience. They are still within a few weeks of opening so maybe it will get better but I am not rushing ti go back any time soon. read more

Went on Memorial Day Monday, so maybe the B-team was in the kitchen, but for a new place trying to be an upscale French restaurant they didn't pay enough attention to the actual food. Starter - Cauliflower Soufflé Mains - Short Rib bourguignon & Sole Bonne Femme Dessert - Crème brûlée Bread service was very bland. I get that they want to show off the 130 y.o. sourdough from sister-brand Mother Dough, but it hit the table stale and flavorless and the garlic butter didn't wow us either. Starter was fine but not extraordinary; not out of line with any thing expected. The Short Rib bourguignon was the most disappointing part of the night. Perhaps trying to go for an elevated beef bourguignon by replacing cheaper meat cuts with short rib, but the meat itself was painfully dry. Sauce was great, but the best thing I ate was the single mushroom in the dish. If you're going to elevate a classic with quality ingredients, they need to be prepared in a way that doesn't ruin them. The sole also was dry and relatively flavorless, but bonne femme typically is with less butter sauce than a traditional meunière so I guess I got what I ordered. However, the presentation on a wooden pallet makes deboning the dish a more difficult task than necessary. By the time we got to dessert we were joking that, "if the dessert is bad too we REALLY aren't coming back." But it's crème brûlée how can you mess that up? My friends, the carmalized sugar was burned beyond the point where we could eat it. To the point that we flicked it off to the side and ate the custard without the signature cracked sugar. I get it: blowtorching sugar is an art not a science, but when it's torched to the point that the only flavor is char, you need to revisit technique. Atmosphere was fine in the brasserie portion but it seems to be very confused about what it's trying to be. Loud patterns in some places, classic vibes in others, and for a place that is supposedly "Moulin Rouge themed" I don't see where that came through. The wine menu is incredible, and the service was the bright spot of the night. There were three somms on the main floor and wait staff seemed very in tune with what pace you wanted to set. Overall, not worth the hype or the price point. Better quality French food can be found at Meritage in St. Paul or St. Genevieve in South Minneapolis. For the price point of Maison Margaux, I'd rather walk the half block east and go to Spoon & Stable. Just because a place is expensive and on the new Fine Dinning Street of the North Loop doesn't mean that it's good. 2/5 stars. read more
