I celebrated my birthday at Maison Margaux. It was a last-minute decision and realizing that the restaurant was booked that day, we tried to come early to perhaps get an open table. The staff (especially Tyson) was amazing. They made us feel welcomed. Their hospitality was truly like I had known them for years. The atmosphere was elegant, warm and thoughtfully designed. Everything was executed with great care and attention to detail. Hannah was our server, and she had such knowledge and made it fun. The chefs were even friendly and gave us good ideas on what dishes to try. They made my birthday truly memorable!! I will definitely be back...my mouth is still salivating over the menu. read more

I loved my breakfast at Maison Margaux. The food was delicious and a nice portion side. The Ambiance is so beautiful. The service was incredible. I don't think there is much else to say than that but I could write a book about how good the expirience was. We visited Maison Margaux on the first night of their Winter Menu. The ambiance is beautifully done with marble bistro tables and the classic checkered floor. Service was ok, they had a rehearsal dinner upstairs and our server had to occasionally head upstairs so overall it was slow. The Provençale Sangria was delicious and presented in a tea steeper so you could refill your glass a few times when needed. Highly also recommend getting the French Onion Soup! It was fantastic and filling with a crispy cheesy slice of sourdough on top. For my entree I got the oui burger, which was served hot and wrapped in foil. The burger had a great rosemary flavor but by the time it got to me it was over well done, I think it was served so hot it kept cooking inside the foil wrapper by the time it was served to me. The crème brûlée was our dessert choice, and it was pretty good. I'd try Maison Margaux again but I think I'd recommend trying something else instead of the burger! read more

I went here for my birthday and had a great experience. The food was all great! The building was beautiful. And our service was top notch. We had the Burger, The petit Bouillabaisse as our mains. They both were very good. We debated about getting the larger size but thankfully we did not. We would not have needed it. We ordered the Aligot as our appetizer and I'd say it was the best dish of the night. A must order. The only thing I wish we had done differently was dessert. The crème brûlée (as every good crème brûlée) was delicious but nothing special to distinguish it. I wish we had ordered the soufflé ahead. Oh well a reason to go again! read more

Best meal I have had in the longest time. Best service you can get probably anywhere. Just absolutely amazing experience! I went here on a family dinner and we all ordered various things and shared our meals with each other. I specifically got the onion soup and the wagyu steak with frites. Drop dead delicious, compliments and plenty more to the chef! As our appetizers we got the frog legs, scallops, pomme aligot, and wagyu tartare. All of them, delicious. The presentation of the scallops was beautiful, they came under a sea shell which the server lifted on the table and it exposed three scallops marinated in a heavenly cream. The frog legs were very savory and the sauce to dip them in was extremely complementary. The pomme was just delicious. The wagyu tartare was perfectly done. We also visited the underground bar before dinner for cocktails and it is so classy and has a very lush ambiance. The cocktails took a while to come out but they made around 10 cocktails and they all came out at the same time, so I can't blame them. The service downstairs was also phenomenal and everybody who worked there was very informed about the food and drinks and super professional. I wish I lived in Minneapolis so I could go there more than just once a year. Very sad about that. But just wow!! Can't wait to be back. read more

David Fhima is one of my favorite chefs in Minnesota. I have frequented every one of his restaurants from Fhima's St.Paul and Louis XIII to Maison Margaux. Our experience started out great! The Wagyu tartar and Cauliflower soufflé were excellent! When the lamb arrived it was under whelming, dry, under seasoned, dry potatoes and carrots (substituted for the white asparagus that was listed). I was looking forward to the French Onion Soup but it wasn't even luke warm. (Easy to resolve?) bad food happens, and when you get canned asparagus by mistake I am happy you didn't serve it. But when the wait staff sulks and avoids the situation it is immature. Too bad, just training needed for the staff on how to handle a situation when there is a food issue. I've been here for drinks and brunch- amazing. This time we stopped in for our wedding anniversary. Total let down. Ambiance is nice... that hasn't changed, five stars Service was slooooow. It wasn't super busy but the service was not on par. Drinks took forever and arrive after soup. Soup came fast but was not hot. Apps came on time but then entrees were slow. Here's the kicker.., entrees tasted like it's been under the heating lamp forever. Frog legs were ok, very saucy but not in a good way. Mussels were amazing. Pomme frites were good. Short rib... parsnips were crunchy and the short rib was well cooked but sat out too long. Bone marrow - the bread was hard as a frisbee and the duck was burnt. Star of the night was creme brûlée. I was going to say something but it was time to rush home as dinner took over three hours. And... the wellness fee is redic.... Just charge more for every dish and pay your employees a fair wage. read more

Sooo exciting to have a new place in town to try! We booked a reservation a few days in advance and got in. There weren't a ton of time slots left but just a few which is great to see for a new spot. They do have a bar area in the front restaurant and then their downstairs bar which I believe are all walk in. We first had a drink at the downstairs bar which was really cute. Very burlesque vibe mixed with wine cellar. They had a smaller cocktail and food menu compared to the main restaurant but super fun spot! We went back upstairs for dinner and got seated immediately. The place has great ambiance and isn't super loud which was really nice. We ordered the sangria to try which was yummy and came out in a fancy glass to pour yourself! You get a basket of fresh rolls when you sit down, however, they are not warm which was a miss and they are covered with flour so warning for clothing. They were nice and soft and came with yummy flavored butter though! What we ordered: -Aligot potatoes 5/5: these were really yummy. A bit unique texture for potatoes due to the cheese but great to share. The odd thing was this came out first when it would be a great side item for any entrees. It comes with crusty small bread pieces but we liked it better with the house rolls that were soft! -French Onion Soup 4/5: this was a bit disappointing. It comes out hot and bubbling with a huge crouton on it but was just okay. It was really perfumey for some reason and not as salty as typical french onion soup. We would skip this next time. -Filet mignon Diane 10/10!!: this was hands down our favorite of the night, wow. The flavors were amazing, steak was a quality cut and cooked perfectly!!! Would absolutely come back for this. -Cauliflower soufflé 3/5: this was unfortunately our least favorite. It sounded soooo good on the menu, but just didn't hit the mark. It was like puréed cauliflower with cheese. Came out piping hot but was just mush. Left much to be desired. We decided not to do dessert but left feeling satisfied. The service was pretty good but inconsistent. Very much due to being a new spot but sometimes service was constant and then nowhere to be found. I think they are still working out the kinks but we never had to flag anyone down which was nice. Would absolutely recommend giving the place a try. I am not too familiar with French food and I've heard wonderful things about this place and was finally able to try it out one Tuesday evening! This place was wonderful! The service was top notch - always refilling our water even as we had a carafe on the table already. The food was also on another level! The ambiance was light and airy and definitely a great place for a date! What we ordered : -French onion soup: This was good, not life-changing, but good! -Cauliflower, Gruyere and Chèvre Souffle- this was phenomenal - hard to describe it, but you won't regret it! -Dover Sole Meunière- this was our ABSOLUTE favorite - they even de-boned it for us table side and this was such a delight - MUST GET -Oui Burger - great burger! -Short Rib Bourguignon- was tender, but also kind of dry. We would have appreciated more vegetables and mashed potato bed as well - I probably wouldn't order this again. Overall, I can't wait to go back and try other things on their menu! read more

Maison Margaux in the North Loop area with a Paris theme. Everything from the decor to the staff uniforms suggested Paris. Let's talk about food. We tried the following BEEF DAUBE- Beef Shoulder, Seasonal Vegetables, Bordeaux, Thyme, Bay Leaves, Bone Marrow PISTOU JAMBON LINGUINI with no ham GRAND STEAK AU POIVRE Pommes Frite SHORT RIBS BOURGUIGNON Pommes Purée The short ribs were the star of the show. We also enjoyed the beef shoulder and linguini. The steak was prepared well but was lacking seasoning. The nonalcoholic drinks Lavender Raspberry Lemonade and Mint Lime Ricky were good. The food and service warrant a return. The restaurant has the main level dining area and an underground bar with a seashell theme. There is also an upstairs level which we believe is for events, but we did not view it. I look forward to visiting the underground basement once the summer menu has begun. read more

This is the perfect restaurant to bring anyone you want to impress- it's very clean and modern with an ode to a French cafe vibe. Street parking in the area is metered and we went around dinner time on a Sunday and it was easy. There is a lounge area and restaurant as well as a wine cellar downstairs and an event space upstairs. We got the seafood tower and I was impressed with the tender scallops and lobster. I loved it so much that I ordered the seared scallops as an entree. The flavors did not disappoint. I got the pommes frites (fries) as a side and they were a good starch to supplement. The short rib bourguignon was also amazingly tender with a rich, bold flavor. It was served on a slab of pork belly that was a nice addition. We also had the plant-based meatballs bourguignon that was equal in it's bold flavor. For dessert, we had the creme brûlée and chocolate marquise. The marquise was death by chocolate which isn't my preferred flavor profile but it was enjoyed thoroughly by a chocolate-lover. I did go back for seconds on the mousse part of it that was lighter. The creme brûlée was my pick and is always a favorite. Who doesn't love a crunchy, sugary crust that reveals a creamy, smooth layer underneath?! WOW, I love this place. I have heard such good things about this restaurant since it opened and it was worth all the hype! Came here for a date night and it was perfect. Beware of finding parking though, it is a busy area. There is a valet for here though which is awesome. The restaurant is visually stunning inside, very beautiful. Lots of marble and quartz. The staff was very friendly and engaged, always making sure we had what we needed and clearing dishes clearly. I was very impressed with the quality of the service! Okay the food....we loved everything we ordered. We started with the scallops which were seared perfect and melted in your mouth, great flavor. For our entrees we got the lamp chops and the wagyu steak diane, both absolutely amazing. We couldn't decide which we enjoyed more. We also got the cauliflower soufflé with our dinner, very cheesy and buttery. We finished our meal with the chocolate soufflé, very light and not too sweet. Very mellow chocolate flavor. I came to Maison Margaux for a friend's birthday celebration and we couldn't have asked for a better dining experience! The seating was incredible for a larger party of 8, and service was great. They even made a small birthday card for my friend and brought out creme brûlée for us to share! The bread on the table had to be one of my favorite parts - freshly warm baguette with salted whipped butter . I can't say enough about the ambience of this place, I instantly felt welcome and comfortable. From the moment we walked in the service was obvious, we were welcomed by the host. We were immediately seated and the server met us, took our drink order before the host left the table side. The service throughout the evening continue to be amazing. When the food came, it only added to the experience. First the tuna appetizer, along with a puréed, baked potato and brie almost like a fondue experience. I would say this was a highlight of the evening, but then the Main courses came and even further added to the evening. The roast duck, bone marrow and 130 year old bread recipe dish was fantastic. My guest had the ratatouille with a half roasted chicken on top. I had an opportunity to try this and it did not disappoint. Excellence in cooking at its finest. There is only experience I've had that I can compare it to. This would be the Roosevelt Room in Troy, New York. What an amazing experience! Chef Fhima came right to the table MULTIPLE times to check in and explain the dishes. The dining space is beautiful. There is also an underground bar with a Moulin Rouge vibe. We loved the Aligot which we have only found in Paris, until now! We also tried the short rib bourguignon which was so tender, the mashed potatoes were delicious as well. The Sole was delicious, though it is a bone in fish, it is worth the effort. We visited Maison Margeaux and had mixed expectations based on reviews we had read. We were absolutely blown away and walked away saying it was one of the best experiences we've had in Minneapolis. Starting with the interior - the decor is fantastic. There are bold wallpapers, beautiful light fixtures, and overall a great atmosphere. It's a beautiful space with exposed beams and brick but modern decor that keeps it from feeling industrial. Moving to the service, we had a fantastic experience. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, and handled the serving and coursing of the food perfectly. We prefer to eat family style when we're in a group so we can try more dishes, and she handled the situation perfectly. It was really great to have that level of service after my husband and I have had some not-so-great service recently at other Minneapolirestaurants. The wine we had was fantastic. I had a Cabernet while my husband d had a Bordeaux blend - both were great but the Bordeaux blend was something we still think about. It was well balanced but had deep flavor, a perfect wine to pair with some of the heavier entrees. We had 6 people in our party and we decided to order family style. We started with the Gruyère and chive soufflé, the haricot verts, bread service, and the moules frites. The soufflé and moules frites were outstanding. The soufflé was so flavorful and was so fulfilling, we easily split it as an app for the six of us. The moules frites we're perfectly cooked with a flavorful broth that kept us coming back for more - we dipped bread and fries and anything in it that would soak up the flavor. It was great. We moved to the pesto pasta, lamb, steak, ratatouille, and short rib borguignon for entrees. The short rib was tender and flavorful and we were fighting over who got to eat the vegetables inside. The ratatouille was another stand out dish - bursting with flavor with perfectly cooked vegetables. For dessert we opted for the chocolate soufflé and an espresso martini. The soufflé was fantastic, but the espresso martini was just ok. Overall we had a fantastic experience and I highly recommend a visit to Maison Margeaux! read more

One of my FAVORITE restaurants in north loop! Madison Margaux I'd rather new but it impressed me - I brought my sister here for her last day in Minneapolis and it was perfect. It is on the pricey side, so I recommend more so for special occasions but the pesto pasta was so creamy and delicious. I got the short ribs and the meat was so tender and full of flavor. Over the past 20 years, Fhima's restaurants are two things: Pretty to look at and *wildly* inconsistent in food and service. I've been to Maison Margaux four times for brunch: 2 were impressive, 1 was so-so, the final was an indication that Fhima's spots are always going to be mid. The first thing that strikes you about Maison Margaux is how pretty everything is: they hired the best interior architects and designers and didn't skimp on decor (again, Fhima was like this when he had his "Fhima's" 20 years ago in St Paul...). The man can attract investors to his restaurants like no one else, despite the lack of longevity of any particular spot. Where Fhima continues to fail is in understanding how hospitality works in his class. 25 years ago his "Fhima's" was something different for the Twin Cities, it was a taste of fancy upscale dining in a metro that was still provincial, moving here from LA it was the closest thing to hip upscale dining. The problem is the restaurant scene across the Twin Cities has elevated since -- from Tim McKee elevating dining and service when he moved La Belle Vie (RIP) to Minneapolis (and chefs who branched out of it), to Daniel Del Prado who has good food and passable service, to the pinnacle that is Gavin Kaysen's group of restaurants and those who've stepped out from it (Bucheron, Diane's Place, etc.) -- to say nothing of other exceptional restaurateurs who get the total experience of dining. Maison Margaux is clearly a "let's redo the former Bellecour-Wayzata in downtown!" Only it lacks the ability in the kitchen or service that made Gavin Kaysen's spot a must-visit. On my most recent visit I watched staff that were wildly out of their depth in managing a handful of tables. I watched the hostess realize the staff was MIA and start serving tables as plates stacked up at the line. The 2 cooks were working very hard, but they were hopelessly out of their depth. My dish came with poached eggs... the yolks were solid. The food is now extremely oily. Interestingly, over the months I've noticed the dishes have all started to bloat into larger and larger sizes. My old photos don't match my new ones... it wasn't necessary, but seems to be an attempt to claw at the "whatever, as long as the place is pretty" crowd? Fhima's restaurants are Crave/Kaskaid restaurants with higher prices and more expensive finishes. If you're just going for mimosas and pretty surroundings, and throwing money at a place without regard for food or service, this would probably work. If those latter things matter to you -- there are restaurateur out there doing much better work who deserve your patronage. Maison Margaux is the kind of spot that lets you benchmark someone's ability to define a good restaurant. For the price, this isn't worth it. read more

A piece of Paris in our corner of the world. The decor is exceptional, the cheese soufflé was extraordinary, the green beans were well green beans. The onion soup was something that dreams are made off. Entrees: if you eat duck then order the duck. No questions asked, I just made your life easier. You are welcome. If you don't eat duck then the wagu is good. A little pricy but cheaper than going to Japan or Paris. The mousse dessert had rich deep chocolate flavor while the chocolate soufflé did not have any chocolate flavor but had that ooey gooey soft cookie feel. The drink #5 was mediocre at best. It promised to be different but ended up a bit like and an old fashion. The service is attentive. Something that is a rarity now a days. Go! I was so excited to try Maison Margaux, so we planned it as the start of a girl's night out. It's a cute place that is much bigger inside than you would think. In North Loop, it makes an easy bus ride, as parking in that area is limited. If you think it's cute from the outside, the inside is beautiful and brings the vibes of a niche but accessible restaurant. Our service was also great; the staff knew the food and, more importantly, the wine. Prepare to spend a lot of money here; we went with an expected budget, so we weren't surprised by the bill. Everything was tasty, but with such a unique menu and small portions, we were a little disappointed. Some things were too salty, and other things weren't salty enough. The consistency of the food was not impressive. These were by far the worst french fries I have ever had, limp and soggy. And in some dishes, it didn't seem like things were cooked evenly. I ate an uncooked bean at some point, which was not fun. I am giving two stars because the service was great, the wine was wonderful, and I like some of the food, but I don't think I will be returning soon, unless I am looking for an expensive wine experience. read more

The ambiance of this place is everything. Main level has a classic, posh feel. Downstairs you feel transported to a moody speakeasy in Paris that was built inside a wine cellar. And the patio connects you to the vibes of Northloop. I'd say they accomplished their goal of bringing Paris to Minneapolis. The French Onion soup is amazing, I get it every single time. So flavorful with just the right amount of cheese - chefs kiss. I wanted to try the frog legs just for fun, they were a little too crispy and would've been good if not overcooked. The sourdough bread is delightful, a recipe that uses a mother dough that has been in their family for over 100 years - amazing! The cocktails are craft, with great options for all palates, including those who prefer NA options. The servers are pretty attentive and some are super chatty!
