I was a bit nervous and worried about skin irritation, but Rachel took the time to explain everything and make the process as painless as possible. Not only does he listen to my thoughts and ideas but protects my hair from over-processing. I'm naturally extremely dark brown but I've been platinum blonde for a very long time. So on occasions he does vivids and then back to my icy platinum blonde. He also recommends the best products for me to keep up with maintenance at home. Today was my first appointment with Amber at Maison Noire. I found her off Instagram and knew by seeing examples of her cuts, styles, and colors, that I needed to definitely give her a try. I have been ok with the stylist I've been going to, but felt something was missing overall. Amber's pricing was right on point for me, so I scheduled a haircut with her for today. (My baby shower is tomorrow, so my hair will still look great!) Upon walking in, I felt welcomed immediately and felt it was a really friendly place. Amber finished with her client and immediately got started with my appointment. As soon as we were discussing my preferences and hair goals, I just had a feeling she was going to be super on point. And she was. She blended my layers like they haven't been blended in quite awhile, and as she dried my hair, I could see the volume and bounce immediately. I mentioned I wanted to go for a platinum blonde & have never been able to achieve it as I have red undertones. Do not book with Stephanie (@hairbystephaniem). I went to her for one session; my hair turned out nice, but it wasn't exactly how I wanted. She told me to "trust the process" and book another session, which I understand and was willing to do. I've been trying to contact her for over a week through text and Instagram, but she will not respond to any of my efforts to book another appointment. I'm not sure what I did wrong , but she won't reply. I would really love to know what I did so that I could correct my actions with future hair stylists. Furthermore, the first time I booked with her she didn't respond for 4 days. I thought it was going to be the same situation, but I was sadly mistaken. Overall, the lack of communication makes her an unprofessional hair stylist. I will not be coming back. read more

I waited 2 months months before writing this review because I was hoping my hair would improve after the damage was done. I had to go to another stylist to work through the destruction that was done to my hair by Shelby at hairby.shelbss. Please be warned! This girl not only did a horrible job on my balayage, she also fried my hair completely! Not sure what type of products was used but the shampoo dried my hair so bad. She DID NOT conditioned or oil as she should during the process. I can no longer comb or brush my hair without it going into knots even with leave in conditioner and oils to smooth it out. I don't know how long before my hair is back to the healthy way it used to be after every balayage but to pay the amount of money I did with Shelby was frustrating. I do not recommend her for any service, not even a cut! read more

First review--- but here it goes. I use to come here to do my hair but I will not ever come back. Stephanie has been very unprofessional with not only me but my friend too. I'm never the type of person to speak up when it comes to situations like these but I feel so horrible being in this position that I don't want anyone else to be in it too. I had an appt with Stephanie in July. Specifically July 21 and I gave her the $50 non-refundable deposit. Due to Covid I know the Salon was closed down and was opened till September. I received a text from Stephanie to reschedule since I lost my appt for July and so I just told her that I'll schedule till January. She NEVER responded back until I texted her again this passed Friday and she said she was booking for FEBRUARY. So I was being kind enough to ask her availability for February and she NEVER responded back and so I texted her if she can please give my money back if she's never going to book me an appointment since I should've had priority from the start due to losing my appointment and she still hasn't texted back to me. And I found out she cancelled on my friend super last minute when she had an important event to go to. So now she's stressed out and overwhelmed and had to find someone else Idk if there's anything I can do at this point but know that I lost my $50. So unprofessional and lack of communication. This has never happened to me and has stressed me out. I will be posting all the proof of messages and I did contact the business owner and they couldn't do nothing about it and did contact Stephanie and she did call me, late at night around 8pm so unprofessional while I was putting my children to sleep. So I texted her and told her I wanted my money back simple and clear. She only unliked my text message and never responded back!! She even told business owner that she left a voicemail and I have NO VOICEMAIL IN MY RECORDS Just please DONT book with her!! PLEASE DO NOT!!! UPDATE FOR THOSE ASKING I DID CONTACT VENMO AND I CANT GET MY MONEY BACK.** proof is posted!! Will be deleting my Venmo too since they suck at their policies. I booked an appointment with Laura for my mom, a few family members, and myself to get our hair done for a family wedding. We are from New York, so it was a bit challenging to find a hair place that perfectly suited our needs. Laura exceeded our standards, she was great at communicating, super nice, and accommodating for all of us needing various hairstyles. She worked with our tricky wedding day schedule to make sure we all had appointments throughout the day. The salon is very nice, it exceeded our expectations. I love Maison Noire!! I get my hair done by Laura, and she does an AMAZING job!! I have super thick, 3a curly hair, and she does a great job of shaping it, styling it, and giving me tips on keeping the curls healthy and moisturized. She's so sweet and I always enjoy the time that I get to spend with her when I'm there. She's also so respectful of health and safety guidelines and is great at meeting you at your comfort level when it comes to being around others, which is really refreshing. I booked an appointment with Shelby for Saturday 4/30 to refresh the balayage I had gotten done last year (by someone else), trim my dead ends, and just have some long layers cut into my hair. On her Instagram page, it noted that she was a "balayage expert", and the posted pictures looked like she did great work. I spent four hours at the salon. At the end, my hair seemed to look great. She curled my hair, and it all seemed to look fine - the curls hid a lot. Unfortunately, once I got home, I started noticing some issues. The first thing I noticed was an obvious line where the blonde started and stopped across the top of my head on the left side of my part. It was not blended at all on the top. I then pulled my hair back to put in a ponytail - I noticed another blatant line across my hair there as well. The next day, I straightened my hair since I rarely ever wear it curly. That is when I noticed the cut and more of the color issues...it was a perfect storm. The pictures alone should help show you some of the issues (should have taken more because these don't do it full justice). I just wanted a basic trim and long layers as mentioned before. There were gaps, it was choppy, and extremely uneven all over - There was no way that I could even try to hide it or make quick little adjustments myself. I was also able to notice the color lines were throughout more of my hair than I thought. There was also space in the middle of my hair on the left that wasn't colored correctly or maybe over toned (comments given to me from a different stylist). I contacted Shelby the morning of 5/1. I did know that she was moving, so I gave it all day for some sort of a reply. I saw she was on her phone and posting on Instagram later in the day. Regardless of the defensive comments that I received the next day from her, most people in this day and age have their phones on them pretty much at all times and check it throughout the day even if you're not on it much. She would have had a notification from me. I have moved places close to every year for the last 10 years, and I still took breaks periodically in the day and would check my phone - as most would and do. I was just hoping for at least some sort of acknowledgement. I called the salon twice the next day around 10:15-10:30am after they opened and left a voicemail as well as sent an email with pictures. They called back about 30 minutes later and were super nice and apologetic. Unfortunately, they said they were unable to really do anything for me since they said Shelby just rents space from them/has her own business. I was also told this has occurred other times before with this stylist, so I lost confidence that she would be able to fix my hair and decided to have someone else correct it. I finally heard back from Shelby in the afternoon of 5/2 (only after she received a call from the salon regarding my complaint), saying I could come back at a different date/time. However, I honestly did not feel comfortable going back to her. I went to a different salon Monday afternoon and became so emotional once they really started showing me the extent of everything that needed to be corrected and realizing this was still going to be costly (those harsh color lines literally ran all throughout every layer/section of my hair - nothing was blended at all). I asked feedback from the stylists at the new location about what I should do, and the 4 stylists around me all agreed I needed to ask for my money back after analyzing my hair. I asked for some reimbursement, and all she responded that she was willing to give back was the $50 deposit after I spent over $300 with her - granted some of that was for tip. All and all, I am going to have to go back to the salon for my third time to correct everything because they didn't have enough time on Monday to get it all. After this next salon appointment - I will have spent somewhere over $700 on my hair (including the deduction from the reimbursement), made 3 trips to the salon, had to give up the balayage and bring highlights all the way to the root (making this a higher maintenance/costly hair style than I wanted), and had to cut off more of my hair than I wanted in order to correct the botched haircut. 1.) MAKE SURE YOU TELL THE STYLIST TO LET YOU SEE YOUR HAIR STRAIGHT AFTER IT'S DRY BEFORE THEY STYLE IT. There was no way she didn't see/notice how choppy and uneven the cut was when she finished drying my hair - unless she just wasn't paying any attention at all or didn't care. 2.) DO NOT LEAVE THE SALON UNTIL YOU HAVE LOOKED AT ALL DETAILS AND EVERY SECTION. I always feel so rude doing this or even making small suggestions during the session, but we are paying our hard-earned money to get the results we want. 3.) Don't be afraid to fight back on what you feel you deserve!  I do not feel like the reimbursement amount I received gave justice to this situation. I wish I hadn't been so afraid/worried to fight harder for what I feel I was owed. read more

STYLIST WARNING! If you are looking for a place to rent a station... keep looking! The stylists that haven't been forced out or left on their own are wonderful and the shop is very cute but it is run by a terrible landlord that knows nothing about the industry or owning a salon. Your business will be negatively affected and when things like the water heater won't work (again and again) you will get an attitude for bringing it up. read more

After some consideration, I have decided I should speak up as well; about the hairstylist Shelby. I have not dyed my hair in over ten years. It took a lot of time, and courage for me to find someone I thought I could possibly trust with my hair. I understand the first session can be very difficult to get my hair icy blonde. The second session, wasn't really much of a difference. It still looked very orange, and after telling her I wanted it more blonde, she said it will take 2+ sessions to get there. Each session is $250 by the way. I have gotten many opinions, and was told it doesn't take that many sessions. Shelby, was extremely defensive, and unprofessional when it was brought up to her attention. Her and the assistant, have been nothing but unprofessional. I had asked a question on their instagram, and she had reached out, saying I was making them uncomfortable. When I pointed out that I am not asking anything that would be inappropriate, I was immediately blocked. I proceded to send her a message on her cell phone late that evening; when all this occurred. She spammed my phone with many phone calls, and demanded I called her back late at night. In conclusion, I don't recommend Shelby. Her actions truly spoke about how much she doesn't care about her clients, and she needs to own up to her horrible work, as well as work on her professionalism with clients. read more
