All of them are delicious, but a couple of notes about this location: * The printed menu is pretty short, but they do have a much longer menu online (I've found I can order those items in-store also, but you need to know to look for them) * It has a larger dining area, and offers table service for groups or if you have mobility limited folks in your party * Online ordering cuts off an hour before store close, but you can still call your order in after that * Don't forget about dessert! We're foodies who LOVE eating out and I just knew that we'd been here. My husband was right, haha. There are two doors to ease the traffic flow. One guides you to the register and the other is the exit. Staff will ask whether you are taking out or dining in. If dining in, you will be given a menu and may choose your table to await table service. They have the cutest little bench adorned with flowers for photo ops. The portion sizes are filling and the prices are fair for the quality of food. I especially love their kofta, eggplant, fries, and green sauce. They have high chairs. I was too full for dessert but they have lots of really unique and delicious looking desserts. I want to go back for the rose ice cream. I didn't love that we were given plastic cups with plastic lids and plastic silverware when we were dining in. I normally go to the Fulton/Maple Lawn restaurant but I was nearby and decided to try this one. I was not disappointed! Located in the Columbia Crossing shopping center near Nordstrom Rack (for a point of reference). I placed a take out order for chicken kebabs with white rice, salad and bread. My food was ready pretty quickly. The employee who rang me up was helpful and courteous. I think her name was Alicia. I love their green sauce. I asked for extra and the manager (I think) obliged. I didn't realize how long it has been since I reviewed this restaurant! There is no longer a buffet. The interior and exterior look the same as 7 years ago - that is, clean and spacious inside. I took my friend for her birthday lunch and she was very happy with the two small appies - said it was plenty of food. I ordered an actual combo - lamb & chicken kabobs with two sides, so I could take some home. ;) I got extra food because of a foul-up (I guess). I wanted to substitute spinach and "pumpkin"* and ended up with tiny sides of those, along with what came in the combo: rice and a small salad! I had a lot to take home. Food was fresh and truly delicious - the kabobs were grilled perfectly and had tantalizing spice blends. The spinach could use a bit of something more, it was just plain boiled spinach. And the *butternut squash* that is sold as pumpkin in most Afghani restaurants was excellent, with just a little dollop of plain yogurt on top. It's been a while since I've been to this location and dined in. But it was as good as always. Ordered the kofta kabob with a side of pumpkin. The naan and rice here are excellent and you get a huge portion of each. The pumpkin is one of my favorite sides, but they are literally all very good especially the chickpeas, spinach, and eggplant. I've had most everything on the menu and its all fantastic. My kabob had great flavor, but noticed how much smaller it is which was disappointing. Two stars for excellent customer service and the restaurant space itself was well appointed. Otherwise, I ordered a gyro salad and it was not good. When the food first arrived, I realized it had the type of rice that has a cinnamon flavor to it, and I do not like cinnamon. I let the girls at the counter know, and shortly I received a new plate with white rice. However, the whole thing was slathered in sauces I didn't like and the gyro meat wasn't good at all. Two thumbs up to Maiwand Kabob!! Decided to give it a try after passing it by for months. I'm not a huge kabob fan, but this place is so much more than that. I stopped in on a Friday night and saw that the daily special was lamb curry with potatoes. Yummy!! They have a different special each day of the week. Since this was my first visit I didn't want to get too carried away with my order, so I just grabbed the special which was right around $15. Can't beat that. The place is really nice inside and great for dining in. I grabbed mine to go. I noticed some of the reviews said their food took a long time. I didn't experience that. Food was ready in 10 mins. Granted it could have been what I ordered. Got home and couldn't wait to dig in. The portion is huge and could turn into two meals. You get a large serving of rice, the lamb and potatoes, side salad and naan. Whoa!!! Everything had amazing flavor, the lamb was nice and tender, and the green sauce it comes with is so fresh and light. I will say, the curry lamb was a bit on the greasy side but I assume that's just how this dish comes. Overall a win for me! Look forward to trying some of their other dishes. read more

Pretty great service from pretty great staff !! I was greeted by Mishell S upon entry, and she was so helpful. I had more questions than a curious toddler. The dining area was very clean and welcoming. I ordered the Monday Chef's Special, which was Curry Lamb. It came out pretty fast and was tasty. Dined here for dinner last night and glad I go to try this place out! I started to become a little impatient with the 20 minute wait since the restaurant wasn't crowded, but was told the kabobs take a little while to cook. And I rather them cook it the right way for it to be delicious and oh it definitively was. I had the daily special which was the chicken curry and my husband the chicken tikka kabob. Chicken curry was good, not spicy. Both dishes come with rice, salad, naan, and a very tasty sauce. The standout was the chicken tikka kabob, seasoned and tasted very nicely. Even the rice with it was different from mine and I loved the spices it was cooked with. Enjoyed the naan too. Huge portions and definitely great price point for all the food you get, plus quality. Maiwand Kabob is a consistent stop for me when in Columbia for my visits to Hopkins. I am able to get some wonderful gluten free options. I especially love the Brown rice (that has a savory taste with raisins), chicken/chicken kabob combo. I have also begun getting their new mint lemonade. The service is always excellent and they are open to swapping sides to make it work for you. It is clean and I often see families gather there for dinner. There is plenty of seating. Check them out! I ordered the Chicken Malai Kabob, which comes with a ton of rice, salad, and a cup of chutney. I made my own yogurt sauce and ate the kabobs with Cava brand harissa. The chicken was amazing! Decided to grab a quick bite to eat and had heard about this place from a friend. When I first walked in there was no one up at the register to take orders for a good 5 minutes, which I figured maybe they could be busy no problem. I ordered a chicken shawarma which comes with fries and a soda. I was told it was going to take 20 minutes so naturally I came back about 20-25 minutes later. I was told it was going to be a few more minutes and then when I decided to come back 10 minutes later, it still wasn't ready. Luckily there was a lady who I assume is one of the managers who went to the back to check on my order for me. Now let's get into the food. I would say the shawarma was just okay. I would recommend asking for spicy sauce if you're looking for more flavor. I was able to mix the ketchup and the green sauce they provided to add a little more taste to it. I wouldn't necessarily gravitate towards this place a second time but if I ended up here again I would definitely ask for a spicier sauce for the food. read more

Its a poor man's attempt and quite frankly an insult because I am from Afghanistan not to mention from California where we have authentic Afghan restaurants. I ordered what looked like Qabali palow (seasoned rice with carrots and raisins) and to my surprise there were a couple raisins with a few strands of thin carrots. Why so stingy with the raisins and carrots?! The baked bolani was so disappointing. First off who bakes a bolani? It should be fried, ALWAYS! So apparently they don't serve fried bolani on Wednesdays so we resorted to the baked one. They couldn't even do that right because I was literally eating dough. My goodness! This place is tasty! I've been wanting some kabobs for a while and Maiwand Kabob didn't disappoint. I had to pick something up from Target (of course) and decided to place an order to go since I was nearby. I ordered a combination platter which consisted of chicken and lamb kabobs. The platter came with rice, salad and some green chutney. The chicken and lamb were flavorful and tender. The rice was fragrant and I can tell that they used some spices that you wouldn't typically expect like cinnamon. The rice also had raisins but everything about it just worked. I'm drooling as I write this review. At the time of my visit, they were only doing carryout due to covid but I was very pleased with the packaging of my food and the staff were nice. Beautifully decorated restaurant. When you walk in you instantly notice the chandeliers, and the famous portrait of Sharbat Gula/'Afghan Girl'. They used to have an indoor waterfall by the door for as long as I could remember, but it wasn't there the last time I went. For a place that looks upscale the prices are excellent. The dinner plates have generous portions and nearly every entree is under $20. The naan was freshly baked. The kebobs were succulent and made with good quality meat. Rice normally isn't the star of a dish, but over here that wasn't the case. The brown rice is a pilaf seasoned with warm spices and has raisins and shredded carrots mixed in. read more

You can get better service and food for half the price) -I just ordered some food for pickup a bit before closing today 2/28/24. My experience was just unnecessarily difficult and rude. After I picked up food and got down the road I noticed I didn't have silverware or the sauce and rush back to get it. -When I get back I ask for the sauce and silverware and the girl cleaning points at it behind the register booth and tells me to get it. I ordered takeout from here last night. I got the sampler platter. The falafel was ok - super hard on the outside, but the flavor was pretty good once you managed to get through that. The baba ganoush and hummus were awful. The hummus was incredibly bland, and the only flavor in the baba ganoush was cumin. If you only eat Halal and love Kabobs and don't want to break the bank, look no further. Now this place isn't fancy, but it's great for family dinners, group meet ups and quick bites. My friends and I ordered the veggie samosas, chicken samosas, eggplant, pumpkin, baba ganoush, naan, mango lassis, mint lemonade, lamb, shrimp, chicken kabobs, literally everything off the menu. We wanted to try it all. I must say everything was absolutely mouth watering. We had an absolute blast while enjoying scrumptious and very modestly priced dishes.
