Having seen this business and passed it immeasurable times over the last year or two, we finally stopped in for lunch midday on an early summer Saturday. We thought it was a good sign that the clientele (& their many kids) reflected the Middle-Eastern ethnicity of the staff (and presumably the owners). "Eat where the locals eat" usually is a reliable barometer of quality and this adage certainly did not disappoint. We ordered two lunch entrees (the Chicken Shawarma platter and the Chicken Malai (photos attached), and both far exceeded our expectations for tastiness, freshness and (for $15.99 each), for value. Seriously a very generous quantity of food for that middle-of-the-expectable-range sum for lunch. Did I mention those kids? Thay teemed in number, energy and aduial volume in a small, glassed-in and industrial-style eating area. While we ascribe the intense distraction that caused to our bad luck, next time (and there definitely will be a next time) we may get carryout and a single order to split. So much food! read more

On a whim stopped to grab dinner instead of fast food after a long Sunday with the family and decided to give Urban Kabob a try. I was greeted and the cashier was friendly, they had plenty of seating inside and outside and in general seemed like a nice casual restaurant to have dinner at if we weren't planning to take our food to go. The cashier explained the menu and the combo options which allowed any two meats to be ordered together and brought our food to us while we waited outside with our dog. I ordered a lamb and beef kofta combo with some chick pea curry to split with my wife. The meat was pretty tasty and the naan was massive enough for two to split, I was thrown by how strange the rice tasted, barely edible due to its flavor but the texture wasn't brittle/overcooked. The chick peas were very strange tasting, salty and with a flavor I could only describe as Old Bay, we both couldn't bring ourselves to eat them. Overall I think perhaps we just came at a bad time as it was two hours until closing but while we hate to waste food we ended up tossing everything but the meat/naan. personally hate to waste food. read more

I placed an order through Uber Eats for pickup on July 2, 2026. When I arrived at the restaurant, I was told that some work or an inspection was taking place in the kitchen and that they could not prepare my order. However, no one called me to let me know that the order could not be fulfilled, and the restaurant did not cancel the order through Uber Eats. When I contacted Uber Eats, they told me that the restaurant had already accepted the order. I then called the restaurant and asked them to cancel it, but the person at the front desk said they were unable to do so. This caused unnecessary inconvenience and made it difficult for me to receive a refund. I normally do not complain about restaurants. Even when I previously received undercooked bread, I simply mentioned it during my next visit, and I was told that it would be taken care of. I also complained about the potato curry because it contained very large chunks of potato. The front desk employee again said the issue would be addressed, but nothing changed. I am disappointed by the repeated lack of attention to customer concerns and the poor handling of my Uber Eats order. I understand that inspections or kitchen work may happen, but the restaurant should have stopped accepting orders, contacted me immediately, or cancelled the order properly instead of leaving me to resolve the issue myself. Update: After posting this review, I received a call from someone identifying himself as the owner. He had my number from when I contacted the restaurant directly to ask them to cancel the Uber Eats order they never fulfilled (I still have not received a refund for that order). During the call, he told me he did not care about my review, demanded I delete it, and threatened to come to my workplace and harm me if I did not, along with repeated obscene language, including explicit threats directed at my family. Urban kebab is a small place with kind employees, cute indoor and outdoor seating, yummy food, and a single stall bathroom. The food is alway tasty and the portion sizes are large. I enjoy the kofte kabob and the French fries are really good. The naan is giant, but kind of dry and not very tasty. The baklava was okay, kind of dry and expensive- 7.99 for three small pieces. The floors are sticky and the service is slow. The prices are more than I would expect from a fast casual spot. read more

Complete disregard for customer request. We asked the worker multiple times to make the food not spicy at all. When he said mild, I said mild to you is spicy to me. I was very clear. When we got the plate we could see spices on the meat, rice etc. We tried and it blew up our taste buds. We were barely able to eat 1/2 as we were very hungry but the fire in our mouths took over. When I complained to the worker, he didn't bother to offer a refund or discount or to remake the food. Nothing!!! Do not spend your money if you value your taste buds and palate. Looking for a quick lunch and decided why not. We don't typically eat outside of our comfort zone so we had no idea what to expect. The staff member was kind and helpful, restaurant was very clean, and ambiance was nice! Since we have never had Halal food before, we stuck to things we know. I got a chicken wrap and my husband got a gyro. The wait was a little longer than we expected, but when I tell you it was FRESH and hot when it came out. The chicken wrap bread was unbelievable. Soft, fresh, just delicious. Chicken was well seasoned and so good. Salad mixture was crunchy and the yogurt sauce was a perfect addition to the wrap. Fries 10/10. Portion was huge and I ended up taking half home. Husband said gyro was amazing. Loved the bread wrap and although he doesn't care to eat lamb often, he said it was seasoned well and tasted great. He had the white sauce (tzatzki I believe) and loved it so much he got an extra container of it. Overall, lovely place. Will absolutely come here again. 10/10 no complaints. read more

My family and I tried Urban Kabob for carry out today, and definitely need to give this place another try. It could have been since we did a carry out option instead of dining in that I thought the Kofta kabobs we ordered were a little dry and not too flavorful. Although we did order the chicken kabob platter, as well, and it was very tender and juicy, so based off our dining experience this evening, I would definitely recommend the chicken kabobs. The meals come with a salad, yogurt sauce, and naan. The portions and servings were large and good for two people to share. We loved the fresh naan that came with our meals. The restaurant is new and local, and the owners did seem friendly and inviting. read more

The food is okay, and the service is okay too. My family got the chicken, beef, and lamb kabobs, all of the kabobs were moist, but not very flavorful. The rice was not flavorful at all either. Driving from Frederick to Aberdeen, we saw signs for Urban Kabob on the highway and decided to stop for lunch. UK is located in a fairly new facility with a few other eateries and businesses. UK has outdoor seating and a nice indoor dining space with modern decor. We walked in and ordered our food and we're seated inside. We ordered chicken kabob meal, chicken shawarma and hummus. The delicious meals included a large portion of seasoned basmati rice, salad and a large naan. The tasty hummus also included naan. At first I wasn't sure if the kabobs were, Saudi, Greek, Lebanese, Turkish, or what??? I had to ask! To my astonishment he said half menu is Indian and kabobs were Afghan style. Well I happen to love love love Afghan food so I ordered a lamb kabob. The plate was filled with what looked like kabuli pulao (Afghan carrot and raisin basmati rice), salad, cilantro garlic sauce, roasted lamb kabob and a large flatbread. The lamb was tender and juicy, good flavor. The rice was very disappointing, it had no flavor. It needed garlic, coriander, cinnamon, cumin, salt pepper, cloves, onion powder, and cardamom. I tried adding salt and pepper but it needs all the other spices which I will have to add at home. The lamb was tender and the flat bread was good but not as good as afghan flat bread. Did take away ordered chicken swarma and gyro wrap. Bread on both was stale the meat dry. Tzatziki sauce which could not be found on either. The gyro was suopose to have sauce onions and tomatoes none of which could be found. Very disappointing and would not return or recommend. We'd been curious about this place for at least 6 months. We moved to the area 6 months ago, and see it off of the road, while on the way home. We'll last night, we intentionally decided to go try Urban Kabob, just as we had hoped --- the food was excellent! I am a vegetarian, so I had the falafel platter. And the falafel was wasn't over cooked or dry. It was very flavorful. The basmati rice was cooked well, not mushy at all. My husband had the shrimp and beef platter - the beef was juicy and tasty. The one star isn't for the food, but for the establishment itself. The food was good, but I find it ironic that EVERY bathroom in the Waverly strip was out of service. Men and womens? I don't believe it. They get a lot of traffic from the highway and don't want people using their bathrooms, I get that, but I was a paying customer. I asked if they were broken or closed and the cashier said something about a lot of travelers stop and flush the toilet and it breaks....ok. I asked for a refund so I ican leave and find another bathroom because EVERY place in that strip had an out of order sign. Tried this new restaurant while in the area . I ordered the lamb and chicken combo. The meal took 25 minutes to arrive. Trying to stay positive I told myself , good things come to those who wait. The meal came served on a plastic plate with partitions One had a yogurt dip. The other some wilted lettuce and a couple of pieces of tomato. The main meal was 4 chunks of lamb and 5 chunks of chicken breast. The bed of rice was long grain basmati but lacked enough salt and flavor. The lamb was dried out , chewy and bland . The chicken was fire brick red ( coloring) but lacked any flavor. The naan was excellent , hot and delicious but not good enough to redeem the meal .Especially for the price they charge for the meal , this was definitely not worth it. When you charge $20 + for a combo entree put a little effort and give the customer their moneys worth. They claim to serve authentic Afghan food. I visited the restaurant today with my family and friends. We were a large group that came in nearing to closing but were accommodated with open arms. The owners were happy to move their restaurants tables/chairs around to accommodate our group, took our complicated orders with a smile on their faces, and brought out the food in a timely manner and with the utmost hospitality. Today was my first visit to Urban Kabob. Wow! I was so pleasantly surprised. I ordered the Loaded Fries, to go. They were nothing like any other loaded fries I've ever had. These were beautiful; clean, hearty and full of all sorts of flavor without the heavy greasy feel loaded fries have lots of the time. They are loaded with sliced chicken breast, jalapeño (and you can choose the heat level. I chose medium and they were quite hot BUT flavorful), and an incredible sauce drizzled all over the top (don't know what it was but was delicious! I'm sure the menu states what it is but have forgotten since I was in a hurry). The amount could easily feed two hungry people. And the price was more than reasonable at $10.98. Eat half of that and a nice green salad with it and you've got an incredible meal. I can hardly wait to go back to try the other tasty looking menu offerings. The man who took my order was super friendly and helpful. The place was super clean, too. A huge plus. read more

After golfing, we took our chances with this newly opened normal looking small restaurant in a brand new plaza. It turns out to be Afghanistan food , and I always cannot have enough of Afghani rice. So we ordered lamb chop with rice, and man it was good!! Highly recommended. Nice. Clean. Excellent. They don't have liquor license though, which is a bummer for golfers : Waverly Woods is just 2 mins away, and there aren't decent casual food around there, unless you go to Turf Valley resort plaza for more expensive food. The owner came out to talk to us, and he is from Afghanistan, who took great pride in his family recipe of rice and wouldn't tell me a thing about how to make it. I don't mind it.
