This is a three flow gem in the heart of Coral Gables. Each floor has a different vibe and atmosphere. The floor will set the tone as you can have a laid back night or hit the roof top bar for more action. The second floor is where we sat and the food was incredibly delicious. The food was flavorful, fresh and beautifully plated. The curated menu has options that everyone can enjoy, even for someone with a cilantro allergy, like myself. We stopped in to see the sunset from their rooftop bar. First, the entrance to this multilevel restaurant is stunning. The rooftop is lovely with flowers framing the views. Unfortunately, in Coral Gables outdoor dining means smoking section. At several tables people were smoking cigars. We ended up sitting at the bar, not a table, to be away from the smokers. The bartender was excellent. He made sure we liked our drinks and recommended the guacamole. It was a hearty portion and well-made. The tortilla chips were excellent. read more

Had the chance to come try out Maiz y Agave. Beautiful location. Service was pretty spectacular. Very attentive and Mariachi band was present and performed at dinner. Pretty awesome. The reason for my 4 stars is honestly the food was just ok for me. Guac was good but nothing out of this world. My Mole dish was good but not spectacular, i expected more strong bold flavors. The Mahi tacos i would say were 5-5 excellent as well as the Filet Mignon... melt in your mouth. Drink was good but for the price i expected more for the money. And last but not least... there was not one chicken dish on the menu. Never seen that before. All in all it was a great experience. read more

The service was not great, there was barely anyone in the restaurant when we went for an early dinner and it looked like there was plenty of staff so I was confused as to why it took so long to order receive food and get the check. Just stopped in, the place is very nice, the hosts up front were welcoming and cool, but the bartender we had was basically a mute, didn't seem too interested in being at work. I noticed the tip was already included on the bill, so maybe that's why. Seemed like we were a bother more than a customer. Rooftop is pretty and has a nice view. Tamarindo Margarita was good. The chocolate drink that is first on their menu had a super strong alcohol smell and taste. Wouldn't get that again. Guac was cold and fresh - delicious. Chips were also good, crispy and thick. The extra charge for the chicharrones was a lot but they were good. Bathrooms are also very nice. I am giving this place five stars solely on the vibes and drinks because I came here with some friends to eat, and the last thing we did was eat. We started drinking and talking and ended up spending the night tasting the cocktail menu. The cocktails are delicious and served in such cool drinkware. I tried the margaritas and they really do hit the spot. The watermelon one was the table favorite. We ordered the guacamole and chips and found that to be very yummy. For me, though, I really enjoyed the sauce they make tableside. I loved the chips because they weren't fragile and had a good thickness to scoop without breaking. Our waiter Roberto was very attentive and made sure we were taken care of the whole time- the table side salsa was very flavorful with the right amount of heat. The guacamole with pork rinds was very tasty too! The star of the show was truly our drinks! The jalapeño margarita and tamarind spicy margarita were so refreshing and to die for! We ordered the chicken soup (very brothy but good), the shrimp ceviche (a little too much tomato sauce), the corn elite (tasteless and very small), the ahi tuna tostadas (very good) and the pork with mole (large portion and very tasty). The guacamole was also good. They don't serve complimentary chips and salsa. The drinks were good but expensive. The waiter was very nice but a little pushy, insisting that everyone rate him. I'm surprised with the lower rating! This place hit on a number of areas: elevated ambiance, well trained service, amazing food, quality plating, and some extras. You also have a variety of seating from the rooftop bar upstairs which has live music some nights and indoor seating on the two floors below. Upon entering, you walk through massive, impressive doors. Hostess check in was efficient and we were able to get a seat Sunday with no reservation. They give you a free table side salsa that was fantastic. The chips were not oily nor too salty. The added on guac was fresh. I enjoyed the pork tacos and the mole sauce trials were outstanding! The food is generally enjoyable and well-prepared, but nothing really stands out as memorable. For a place with such an eye-catching entrance, the interior felt a bit underwhelming, and while the rooftop offers a nice view of the Gables, it's probably best enjoyed on a cooler evening. Service across the board was consistently good, which is definitely a plus. That said, the overall ambiance didn't quite live up to the initial impression or the expectations set by the exterior. Despite hearing mixed reviews, I had a great experience at Maiz y Agave! First, the restaurant is gorgeous and absolutely massive, the space is overwhelmingly large! We sat upstairs, which had great rooftop vibes. All of the food was delicious as well. Highly recommend the pavlova to finish the meal with. Our server was also great, very attentive. I will say the service was on the slower side but honestly it was fine as we were enjoying chatting and hanging out on the top floor. I would definitely try this place out again, it is a huge restaurant with a large menu and lots more to explore. read more

I really wanted to like this place but the food was soooo disappointing. The restaurant was absolutely gorgeous but it lacked flavor and seasoning when it came to the food. We ordered the esquite, that was not fully cooked. The guacamole was bland. The fish and birria taco were just ok but not for $21. The octopus was raw and slimey. Maíz y Agave is the perfect restaurant to celebrate a special occasion. My best friend was in town from Chicago and made reservations at Maíz y Agave. The colorful decor and Aztec style was beautiful. The dresses worn by the waitresses were beautiful and made me feel as if I was in Mexico or the movie encanto. The staff were so friendly and attentive. The food was out of this world good. Every bite I had was an explosion of flavors. The restaurant is beautiful inside. The attention to detail for the glassware, stoneware and napkin rings is amazing. The classic margarita was delicious- rimmed with Tajín. When I passed by Maiz y Agave at around 8:30 p.m. on Cinco de Mayo, a Mexican-themed holiday, every single table on the sidewalk/patio in front of this Mexican restaurant was empty. It wasn't very full inside either, and though they had someone singing, it wasn't terribly lively. Meanwhile, Bodega, another Mexican spot just a few doors away on Miracle Mile was packed with a large group of patrons gathered on the sidewalk and street in front of their place. To me, that spoke volumes. Overall, my review of Maiz y Agave parrots what many others have already stated: The design of this restaurant is beautiful on the outside. During past events like Dia de los Muertos they've really gone over the top with decorations, and they often have a mariachi band roaming through the restaurant during dinner. That said, we've come here for cocktails at the bar on the first floor, and have also been here for dinner. Like many other Yelp reviewers, we've found that the service hasn't been great, the floor plan and layout of the restaurant is chopped up and disjointed, the food was mediocre and the prices are higher than they deserve to be for many things on the menu. Perhaps the biggest oddity was when we came and had dinner on the first floor and then went to the rooftop afterward. The cocktails we liked so much downstairs were not available on the menu at the rooftop bar. If you sort by most recent reviews first, you'll note that many of the 5 star reviews for this restaurant are from non-locals, many without profile photos and this is their only review. Oftentimes that's a red flag. As of the time I'm posting this, there are 12 full pages of reviews for Maiz y Agave that are "hidden" by Yelp and not recommended. Usually that's because Yelp's algorithm has detected they may not have been posted by people describing an actual customer experience here. That algorithm is often accurate. It's a bit sad to read many of the reviews that seem the most genuine and accurately written, as overall they're not very good, yet this restaurant really does have a lot of potential. One can tell the owner or group behind this concept put a lot of time into the design of the building's exterior and the decor. It seems they need to go back and spend that same amount of effort and time improving the dishes, training the staff and making sure menu prices are in-line with what they're offering. Most of all, they need to stop bombarding Yelp and other sites with inflated, 5 star reviews. Improve your food, service and approach, and the real reviews from actual patrons will speak for themselves. read more

I came to meet my cousin and I was impressed by the ambiance and architecture. The restaurant it is very well designed and the service is outstanding. They have 3 floors or excitements and very welcoming for all ages. The food was good but nothing to brag about. The guacamole was good and you can add chiharron, we had three different types of tacos and our least favorite was the lobster . It tasted like everything but lobster . I booked in another restaurant that I confused with this one. we( 6 people) arrived 20 minutes before it Opens, the manager Maikel with a horrific custOmer services told us to leave. we cannot be there just for 20 minutes. This is a beautiful rooftop restaurant/ bar located in coral gables. The exterior is as pretty as the interior. We were here for dinner and it did not disappoint. We got queso as a starter and a bunch of mains. I got the birria tacos which were a little dry. The consome that came with the tacos wasn't warm. I think they have an excellent menu with unique dishes, however their classic Mexican items were definitely lacking in taste. The show stopper was the rosemary Flan. That was a 10/10! read more
