After reading some of the negative reviews, I am baffled because this BYOB delivers everything one could want in an eating experience: delectable food, excellent service, and cozy ambiance. The Roasted Beet Salad with Ricotta was seasoned just right and encompassed the perfect balance of sweet, savory, and creamy. The Teres Major was simply perfect--juicy, tender, and flavorful! We were too full for dessert, but everything that came out looked decedent. All items are made to order, so this facilitates a relaxed eating experience. Don't expect to be rushed. Last night, we ate at Maze for the first time and had a great experience. The staff was friendly and thoughtful. My husband order the pork cheeks for his first course, and said they were amazing. I had the scallops over a pumpkin purée, they were cooked to perfection. For the main course my husband ordered the bison steak, which he absolutely loved and my crab cake was excellent. The best part of the meal was that the chef/owner made our six-year old daughter homemade pasta on the fly. We were so impressed and thought it was above and beyond providing outstanding service. Maize was gracious enough to fit us in for a mid-week date with no reservation. We did the extremely delicious five course tasting menu, and I have to say, I disagree with other patrons who complained about portion size. The portions were generous, and I found myself bringing home food and dessert. We started with seared scallops and corn two ways, which was our favorite dish of the night. I'm not sure where this close to home I could get a perfectly seared scallop...it was a real treat. Other highlights were the warm biscuits and the salad placed towards the end of the tasting, which I personally enjoy. Really, put a poached egg on anything and I'm over the moon, add anchovies and I might follow you home. Maize was a real treat and we'll be sure to return. Our only regret is not taking time to visit sooner. read more

Disappointed with our New Year's Eve dinner. I had dined here before and looked forward to taking my husband. We ordered the $50 menu. First it took extremely long to get the first course. We were mostly disappointed in the cheese course. It was the salad that was on the menu. A piece of Manchego with greens. While tasting menus should be paced this was very slow. Service was fine. I had dinner here with my parents back in June and it was fantastic. I would have preferred that my duck were a little less rare but that was my fault for not asking how it was prepared. We were given an appetizer of popcorn with olive oil, sea salt and herbs. Deceptively simple, yet oh so tasty. Dinner was fabulous so we had to indulge in dessert. I had an amazing sort of deconstructed chocolate mousse terrine with a chocolate layer and a spectacular hazelnut layer, and stepmom had a gorgeous creme brulee. Our server, whose service was impeccable, also let me satisfy my curiosity by bringing me a small scoop of their olive oil ice cream (DO IT). I have been wanting to go to Maize for about 2 years since we moved into the vicinity, and finally found an occasion for a visit. My expectations were incredibly high, and they were actually exceeded by the excellent meal. I guess if I hadn't expected a very slow meal, I might have been thrown by the pacing and thought about dropping a star. Frankly, it was almost 2 hours after we sat down that our entrees came out. However, since we expected a slow pace, we were able to really enjoy our meal. We had appetizers, entree, and dessert and were there for nearly 3 hours. The popcorn was a nice touch to start out the meal. The biscuits were truly incredible--the local honey was a fantastic touch as well. For appetizers, I had the onion tart and my wife had the fig and goat cheese salad. Both were excellent. Our entrees were even better. I went with the bison steak after reading many reviews (and hearing raves from the table next door). It was truly one of the best things I've ever eaten. Go with medium rare as the chef recommends too. My wife had the braised short ribs, which were flavorful and delicious as well. For dessert, she went with the pears while I had the hazelnut cookie/semifreddo combo. She liked hers (I wasn't a huge fan when I tried it, though the champagne sorbet was interesting) but I absolutely loved mine and would order it again in a second. The chocolate chip cookies accompanying the check were a delightful touch and a great way to end a spectacular meal. On top of all that, the price seemed incredibly reasonable for the quality. I've had comparable meals at places in big cities and spent much more than we did at Maize (not to mention not needing to schlep into the city and pay for parking). We will definitely come back for special occasions. Truly of a gem of a restaurant that deserves all the accolades it gets. read more

This is my FAVORITE restaurant. Every dish I have tried has been excellent. The ingredients are locally sourced and fresh. This restaurant is on par or better than the best restaurants in Philly, but there is far less traffic, parking nightmares, and pretentiousness at Maize. The biscuits that come out to the table are the best I've ever had and the popcorn is awesome too. To top it all off, its a BYOB! Every time I have been to Maize I have been there for 2 hours or longer, it is definitely not where I would go if I am looking for something quick. read more

Wow, what a great experience. My colleague and I were passing through the area on a business trip and found Maize on Yelp. It was a bit out of the way for us, but as it turns out, it was well worth the trip. In this sleepy little town out in the corn fields, Maize is a hidden gem. Every bite was meticulously prepared - beautiful produce and meats, nicely spiced, expertly cooked. The roasted pumpkin salad was perhaps the best preparation of pumpkin I have ever tasted. The swordfish was tender, flaky, yet dense, sitting on a silky puree of pumpkin. The bread pudding and flourless chocolate cake were sublime. A perfect autumn meal. Absolutely delicious! Beet salad with goat cheese and pistachios was unlike any other. I ordered the fluke with grapefruit sections for my entree.. Sounds a little strange but was phenomenal. Terrific cooking at this tiny storefront restaurant off the beaten path. The open kitchen turns out carefully prepared dishes of superb ingredients. Appetizers of braised mussels in a curry cream sauce, seared scallops and incredibly tender pork cheeks all delivered rich, satisfying flavors. The beef special, duck leg and short rib entrees were meltingly delicious. Portion sizes are adequate , especially for the quality. Bring some fine wine to this BYO as you will want to match the chef's creations with equally delicious pairings. Service is attentive without being overly solicitous. This adorable, cozy surprise in the middle of Perkasie (of all places) was a truly fabulous way to spend a Friday night with friends. With seating for possibly up to 30 people we recommend reservations. When we arrived they served their famous popcorn (a sign of hospitality) that was addictive and coated in herbs and spices and also warm biscuits. As someone who is gluten-free I was so tempted to taste the biscuits just because of the smell! They were served with local honey and butter. They have cleverly coded their awesome menu for gluten-free people so they have a huge selection of gluten free options and dishes that can be made gluten free (the restaurant is also beside a gluten-free health food store) - added bonus. Our table ordered the salad with roasted beets and triple goats cheese and also the heirloom tomato salad. I am pretty sure I could have just eaten the goats cheese all night- it was creamy and decadent! For our main course the gentleman ordered bison. They claimed it was delicious (it is served medium rare) and my honey might have enjoyed it a little more cooked so you may want to share that with your server if you order it. My friend enjoyed the crab cake which looked packed full of crabmeat. My hanger steak with yukon potatoes and seriously the best jus I have ever tasted, melted in my mouth. It was awesome! As we were too full for dessert we missed the experience of trying something to recommend. Just had my rehersal dinner at Maize. What can I say, they killed it! Everything was amazing and every single person there loved everything! From the homemade biscuits(which are unlike any biscuit ive ever had) served with honeycomb all the way through to the complimentary warm chocolate cookies, nothing anyone tasted was anything sort of awesome. Chef Matt was willing to help me create a special menu for my party and everything was executed perfect, no small feat when you have to have 19 meals come out at the same time and most of them are scallops or bison that can be easily over cooked. When you first come in dawn will help you to your table ( very nice gentleman) and then you will get complementary popcorn and biscuits. And then you will get your menus and your drinks. And then next you will wait it's a lot of time but it's worth the wait you just have to be patient. When the food comes out it's hot smells delicious and let me tell you it lives up to what it looks like. You can see what they're making right in front of you. Love the food here. But tonight totally disappointed with the service. Arrived 5:30 and as of 7:10 still have not seen trace of entees. Now 7:15 and entees finally coming out. Just a terrific meal last night. Everything is fresh, the flavors were big and local sourcing. Our enjoyment of the meal ascended from the popcorn/buttermilk muffin through the bluecrab salad, monkfish, shortribs - and peaked with the polenta cake and olive oil icecream with braised blueberries. Exquisite. Maize is an incredible asset to our community. Everything I've had here has been very fresh, very creative, and quite obviously lovingly prepared. The little extras that they serve gratis - warm popcorn tossed with olive oil and fresh herbs... a steaming hot biscuit with fresh butter and a slice of honeycomb... a freshly-baked chocolate chip cookie to end the meal - make you really feel that love. Portions are well-sized, presentation is lovely, and every bite of everything I've ever eaten here is an eyes-rolling-back-in-your-head-it's-so-good kinda moment.
