This isn't your typical Indian restaurant-which may or may not be a good thing, depending on what you're looking for. I was hoping for something more in line with other Indian places I've been that have chicken tikka masala, but most of what we saw here were bowls. It's a fast casual concept-you can either order at the counter and watch your meal be assembled in front of you or order at the large screen inside the entrance. Ordering at the counter seemed to be much faster-which is what my mom and sister did. I used the screen to order and waited about ten minutes after they had their food for mine to be ready. My mom, sister and I each got different bowls and found them to be ok. I was a little disappointed at the ratio of chicken to rice-there was so much rice! The flavor was good, although a touch too spicy for my liking. All in all, I think it might be a great place if the menu is what you like. I might return and try something different. read more

This is a delightful Indian restaurant for a quick lunch on the go. Go up to the counter, and order what you want. They will build it as you tell them your order. The service is kind and professional, offering a variety of options and providing suggestions if you ask. The food is delicious! It is served hot, and you can choose or spice level. The food is bursting with flavor, and the naan is huge! It is a little bit pricey, but they give you a huge portions. I ended up taking the rest of my food home because of how filling it is. The ambience is a mix between a fast food restaurant and a sitdown restaurant. There are booths and tables to accommodate parties of any size. You have to go to the counter to order, but that isn't an issue because it fits the vibe of the restaurant. Usually enjoy stopping here for a dinner bowl. The restaurant is a fast casual style Indian restaurant and it is usually quite good. I can usually have dinner, and have leftovers for the next day. My most recent visit was very different. The man who owns the restaurant wasn't there, and one of the employees was out front smoking a cigarette. That was pretty gross to have to walk through the smell to get inside. The doors really could use some windex and cleaning. After ordering my food, it seemed the rice may not have been ready, or the chicken was super watery. It made the butter curry sauce very watery and the sauce at the top of the bowl was still thicker, but the bottom was colored water that I ended up pouring out. For fast casual Indian Makam's does a great job. Makam's has the same feel as a lot of newer restaurants where you choose your base, protein, sauce, and toppings. Which is nice because it gives you a better ability to customize to your taste. The individual who helped us order was very friendly and helpful in deciding what to order. I wasn't sure if I wanted the tikka Masala or coconut curry, he recommend the coconut curry and it was delicious! My husband chose tikka Masala with chicken and lamb, which he also enjoyed. I really, really, wanted to like this. The prices are decent, and the food smelled fantastic upon walking in the doors. However, the flavor that I would typically expect from an Indian restaurant was just not there. There was no depth to my curry, and the rice tasted reminiscent of minute rice. I got the tofu and chicken as well. They both were also underdeveloped flavor-wise. The naan was quite good, however. As far as service goes, the employee who took our order rushed things, even when I stated that I was unfamiliar with the menu and needed a second. The employee who cashed us out was kinder and answered my remaining questions. Might try again, but probably at their downtown location. read more

I don't usually order Indian food, but I was feeling like something different today and I have ZERO regrets. I ordered the chicken butter masala bowl. Like many have said, definitely enough for two meals! The sauce is rich, flavorful, and creamy! And the chicken was also moist and tasty. Every bite was a savory taste explosion! And the garlic butter naan was the perfect side to scoop it all up with! I also ordered a dessert called Rasmalai. I don't know that I will order it again, but I didn't hate it. The taste and texture reminds me of bread that has been soaking in milk. Kind of like when you soak the bread to make french toast. It is soft and sweet. I have driven past this place and was surprise of the development of this plaza. So I had to go try this place out. I want to compare this place to a chipotle, but Indian style. Don't let me scare you away, cause even though they do have stuff prepared in advance, it taste super fresh and also they do make stuff freshly depending on the curry you would like. I made my own bowl. I got a layer of rice, but also added on butter garlic naan. Highly recommend adding the naan cause there's a lot of curry that you will want to eat and the rice isn't enough. I got the coconut korma curry, along with the tikka masala curry. They also gave me the spinach curry too (forgot the name). The spinach curry is made fresh to order. So it's really good. The protein I got was chicken and saag. Highly recommend this place. It's a quick curry run. read more

The menu is different than the pictures posted here - there are less base options, so be prepared for that. Highlights: I absolutely love this idea of Indian chipotle and getting to mix and match. I thought it was super delicious and I would recommend this place to anyone. I love how the naan is made fresh. The server was really helpful with suggesting sauces and toppings. Next time I would want to try the salad option since I like ordering naan and it's a bit too much carbs for me with both the naan and rice. This place has the best butter chicken I've had in Utah. The chicken is great quality and super soft. I love the flavors. The butter naan is big and tasty. If you want your food mild or comes that way. You can request spicy and they'll add some heat to it. There's plenty of parking. Kid-friendly. For 5 of us we had two bowls and 3 butter naan. Was just enough for us. Overall I really enjoyed the food. Having lived in a middle eastern country before I miss this kind of food. It hits the spot! read more

Oh my goodness-Makam's is SO good!! My husband & I stopped by to grab dinner with some friends on our way to the Redwood Drive-In movie. I got a bowl with half jeera rice/half mixed greens, tandoori chicken, & coconut korma sauce & absolutely loved it! It was full of flavor and so filling in the best way. It also was the perfect soul-warming food for a cool Saturday night! I had it for dinner on Saturday and then the rest for lunch on Sunday. My husband got a chili paneer bowl with their 2nd spiciest sauce and, as a heat/hot sauce enthusiast, absolutely loved it! Came here off of a recommendation from a friend. As everyone has mentioned, it has the style of Chipotle or Cafe Rio in which you build your bowl, plate, salad, or wrap. Service 5/5: The guy helping us was extremely nice--he offered complimentary water and brought our food to our table. A guy who was already eating came back to the counter asking to buy another scoop of masala sauce, but the server gave it to him for free! Food 4/5: Chile Chicken--very flavorful and had the right amount of spice (medium). I just wish that the chicken was CRISPY since it was advertised as fried chicken. Samosa Chaata--Smothered samosa with yogurt, mint, vegetables, and some type of sauce. Super good. My wife got the tandoori chicken wrap with Coconut sauce and that was really good (not pictured). Ambience 5/5: Plenty of seating. Don't wear nice clothes here as the smells are very strong and will stick. Price 4/5: I haven't been to many Indian restaurants. One of our favorite places! The food is so good and the prices are very reasonable. The first time here I wasn't sure if my small person would find it too spicy, I ordered a bowl with chicken and coconut khorma curry sauce. I could barely get a bite! The next time my sister ordered a wrap, she said it was very good but, being the same price as a bowl essentially, she would order a bowl next time. The naan is very good, soft and delicious. The staff is very nice as well. I only have one wish and that is that there was an ice machine and maybe fountain drinks rather than the cooler with bottled drinks. There are plenty of tables and it is clean. One word of advice: if you take leftovers home, transfer them to another container. The eco bowls they use get soggy and don't reheat well read more

The music was super loud tho and that was a bit off putting. We have never experienced a "subway style" walk through and order for Indian food before so we didn't really know how it worked. The guy who helped us was nice but he didn't really explain the process so it was confusing. The tikka masala and saag curry was okay, it lacked heat, flavor and seasoning. They also have apps like samosas and drinks like mango lassi and a bottled water was included with the meal. I got the chicken tikka masala as a salad. Flavors and freshness were there. I was very content with the meal. If I'm being critical, the lettuce could have been dried a little more or put thought a salad spinner after washing, because there was a lot of water left in the bowl after eating. But honestly, I could have drank it or used a piece of naan to soak that goodness up. The place was large and had a quiet atmosphere when I dined in. The idea of build your own bowl Indian food is a good one. My wife and I got the 2 entree plate and enjoyed it a lot. We both got the jeera rice and channa masala entrees. I got the tandoori chicken for my second entree while my wife got the paneer. The chicken and channa was really good. The paneer was good, but just a bit harder than I like. The navratan korma sauce was delicious over the channa masala. This was recommended to us by the owner, who is a very polite gentleman. We got the tikka masala to go over the chicken and the butter masala to go over the paneer. I enjoyed the chicken with the tikka masala the most. The tandoori chicken is made the day of, which is different but when I have Tandoori chicken in my home town they take like 20 min so I get why they try to draw interest by having it fast a readily available. Loved everything we ordered! I ordered a plate and got the chicken and paneer in coconut korma sauce. My husband got the same but in the butter masala sauce. The samosas were awesome. The mango lassis were awesome and gulab jamoon was the perfect sweet treat to end on. My only complaint is the naan took much longer to come out so our entrees were a little cold by the time we were able to eat them with the naan.
