I booked this through the go Oahu card. Otherwise, it's advised as $35 for the sail. So I did the afternoon "fun n sun" sail. The first 30 minutes were pretty enjoyable, but then the fun just dies out unless you have another drink... It's a great sightseeing trip, but it wasn't much. You basically just ship on a boat for 2 hours and watch the city go by. The staff was really nice and friendly. So that's made my trip better. I guess it would be better if you had a large group. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this for those people like me who don't like to sit still. But if you like to drink and chat, then go for it! read more

So, we wanted to spend some time on the water while we were recently in Honolulu on holiday, so we chose the Makani based upon Trip Advisor and Yelp reviews. We did the afternoon tradewinds sail. Here are the pluses - The boat is quite large, it is very clean and well maintained and very comfortable. The crew was professional and safety conscious and provided better than average service. It's always fun to be out on a boat in the water, especially in Hawaii. Now the minuses - OK, so I will admit, I am picky, but this boat was too big to be any fun once she was under sail. Everything was done to keep the cruise sedate and comfortable for the majority of the many many guests. I wanted to see what she could do on the open water, and since we had a great wind, I was hoping for a better sailing experience. This boat is beautiful and rides very well across the waves, but she was just too slow while under sail, which I guess is what the crew were aiming for. I didn't want a roller coaster ride, but it was way too close to a motorized cruise for my liking. I wanted to feel the sea but for the most part, even with a good wind and choppy water, the captain kept her slow and steady. So while this may be a great tour for folks who want to simply go out on the water, it was kind of boring for me, since I was hoping for a bit more. But to each their own. Had a Groupon offer and boy did we score a GREAT deal - we had a wonderful Sunset cruise. The drinks were tasty, and good sized (we did pay for the larger stadium cup). The buffet was solid - salad, rice, chicken and beef with broccoli, and cookies for dessert. If you are going on a sunset cruise looking for 5-star fine dining, this is not it. BUT - if you want to have a fun, relaxed time with an attentive crew and captain then the Makani is for you. I wish we had more time to schedule a snorkel and sail. If you can look past their ticket booth girl who gives horrible attitude, You will love this cruise! Beautiful, clean boat. Great at accommodating a large group, we had a party of 20. Accommodated transfers directly to hotel and the food and onboard staff, Adam and Chris were fantastic!! All of this 5 stars!! Our cruise was cancelled last min due to weather, they were very helpful and great to work with on rescheduling for later that same week!! A little stressful but their help made it a breeze. Cons.. at check in, Britany who works ticket booth was incredibly rude and not easy to work with or friendly. When asked about size of group sailing, and a few other safety and basic questions, she totally gave attitude. Others were also put off by her dismissive and rude responses to questions. You would think front desk and the "face" of the business would be a little friendlier and helpful. Thank goodness the adventure was the cruise and her tone was quickly forgotten. Looking back at reviews it's clear I'm not the only one who has had an issue with this girl. She does your business a disservice. Other than I would of given 5 Stars, really amazing experience. Absolutely loved this catamaran tour! We did the two hour tour around the beach of Waikiki. Our tour was beautiful, we even got to see a pod of dolphins. To top all this off the employees were so nice. I got the chance to talk to a few of them & everyone was so accommodating in taking pictures & answering any questions we may of had! We found Makani Catamaran as one of the vendors on our Oahu Go Pass. Very easy to schedule and send our COVID tests prior to day-of. Very easy to locate at the marina and being a Sunday during COVID, we found open parking right at the marina. Parking rates for 2 hours were the same price as 15 minutes in San Francisco, so I was pleased. Check in was painless with the scan of our QR GO PASS on the phone. Staff was very friendly and right on time. We gathered for a quick safety brief and explanation of services and expectations. Masks are to be work (as with anywhere) but you may relax it while enjoying a beverage at their stocked bar with VERY reasonable prices or while eating food. There is no food available on the catamaran, but there are kiosks and trucks at the marina and you are welcome to bring them on and enjoy while at sea. Cards are welcome at the bar also to open a tab. The bow of the catamaran has netting for sitting or careful standing and two long bag chairs to lean against or sit on. Tables enclosed at center ship and a rear walkway. The three person crew was fantastic and interacted with all passengers and two doubled as bartenders. They steer directly at known marine life areas and saw several large sea turtles, a whale, and dolphins. The Captain stalled the boat so we could take advantage of the photo opportunities. Out crew was Gabriel, Captain John and Captain Brad. We HIGHLY recommend this tour and it helps being on the list of the Oahu Go Pass. We have been to the islands many times before and this was this trip's highlight! read more

I spent Mother's day here and it was an absolutely beautiful day. We sailed out into the ocean for a couple hours and if you sit out in the net area you can see the blue water rushing beneath you. Didn't see any fish, but they boatmen did catch a mahi mahi. They ended up throwing it back because it was too small but a treat it was to see such a beautiful fish up close and live. Having been around for less than 3 years, this is a truly new and beautiful catamaran. The boat itself is absolutely clean and includes 2 heads. They say it costs about $1.8 million and it shows. They have a flat screen TV in the main cabin along with a Bose sound system. For $35 / person, you can sail on the lunchtime cruise from 1-3pm. Lunch consists of a pastry type sandwich, a salad, and dessert as well as a drink - alcoholic or non. Additional drinks are just a few bucks. If you get the Go Oahu card, this excursion is included. I highly recommend this sailboat ride. It was super fun and kids can go on it too. My 3yr old son absolutely loved sitting out on the net with me. read more

Redeemed a Go O'ahu card here. When I initially called to make a reservation for two, they sold out but created an extra trip to accommodate the Go O'ahu card users, so thumbs up for that. Secondly, the staff were all pleasant and knowledgeable. They booked a perfect amount of people so it didn't feel cramped and most everyone had a seat. There were indoor seats that were shaded, and some on the deck. Third, our go O'ahu card included a ticket drink which could be applied to alcoholic or non alcoholic drinks. Parking is easy (only $1/hr) & it's easy to get to. A great way to see Honolulu skyline from the beach - definitely recommend! read more

Super fun activity on the ocean. It was a hot and sunny day out so the sail was perfect. Each passenger gets one complimentary drink so it was the ultimate luxury. The sail picks up speed towards the end of the first hour which is the best part for me! However, if you get easily seasick, you should reconsider for your health. This review is for the snorkeling trip. Three stars for only seeing one type of fish and a few turtles and not much else. Now if this trip was just for a relaxing boat ride with views, I would give this maybe four stars. They take you along Waikiki beach and get great views of the ocean as well. We even saw a whale! I think higher ratings would need better food. They could get away with charging $5 more and getting higher quality ingredients. The other thing is the ride could be longer and really take you further around the island toward other beaches and bays. Obviously getting to see more would get a higher rating for the snorkeling which is what my trip was for. read more

I thought I was pretty cool. There is a bar on the boat that has a good selection of non alcoholic drinks and alcoholic drinks. Free water so you can stay hydrated. The only complaints I would have is half the boat was throwing up because of how intense the waves were, so if you get motion sickness at all don't go on. My husband and I travel a lot though out the world. This was by far the WORST excursion we have ever taken!!!!! The crew acted as if they were doing you a favor taking you on on "their boat" there was ZERO interaction between the crew and the people who paid to be on the boat!! no entertainment. Spending time on this boat was by far the biggest waste of our vacation time. The girl who works on the boat actually said to me when brought up to her that this trip was a disappointment, she said to me that I didn't deserve a better time because I bought my ticket at a "discounted rate"such a disappointment can't even express how bad it was and what a waste of three hours of my time In Hawaii! PURE DISAPPOINTMENT DONT DO IT!!! When your spending your hard earned money to go on vacation no one should be treated or talked to this way. 1) arrived there was not greeted by staff then was told to go sit to the side while standing on the dock, everyone boarding the boat sat there and watched as they socialized and waited until EXACTLY 5PM no one was greeted or made to feel comfortable. 2) boat took off and staff was not interacting did not feel comfortable at all, there were three staff members who engaged within themselves and did not speak to or make the guests feel comfortable. 3) brought to the girls attention and she yelled at me in front of other guest and then told me that they didn't interact because we bought tickets at a "discounted rate" so we got discounted service. so unprofessional. read more

More like customer service you might find at a McDonald's in Los Angeles. I purchased a non-alcoholic drink for $2 and decided I wanted to upgrade to their souvenir cup for $8 that included unlimited refills. This was a fun boat ride! You get great views of the island (Waikiki side) and get to enjoy a couple of hours out on the water. You get some complimentary drinks but we decided to upgrade to the tumblers, which was a bad idea since we ended up tossing them since we weren't going to fit them in our luggage. The crew was nice and funny. They made sure to make the boat ride enjoyable. The food was alright. Definitely don't expect 5 star dining...the food is more of a quick snack before your actual dinner after the boat ride. Unfortunately, the day wasn't as nice since it was a bit overcast and windy.
