I had heard a lot about Makenna Koffee so I was excited to finally give it a try. The coffee shop was very busy for a Tuesday afternoon at 3:30pm. There are a handful of small tables to sit at inside, a couch area, and a few tables outside. The brown leather couches are cute and comfy. The music was a little too loud for my preference, but loved that they were playing Christmas music. The drink menu is extensive! They have classic coffee drinks, blended, supreme, teas, and seasonal options. I went with what they are known for - the Maui latte. I asked for it less sweet than how it is on the menu. I liked the flavor of the Maui latte and love that theirs a "secret" Maui milk that you can only have at Makenna. For my personal preference, the drink was too sweet and the Maui milk overpowered the coffee flavor. I like a strong coffee flavor so this was not the drink for me. For those who like sweet coffee drinks, this would be the place for you! Although I did not order any, the pastries looked really good. There were different kinds of breads, cakes, and croissants. Visited here for the first time in a Saturday morning. Having recently come from a trip to The Big Island I could see where they pulled from a Hawaiian coffee shop aesthetic. They had an extensive menu that was a bit overwhelming but after trying their drinks I feel like you can order anything on their menu and not be disappointed. I had the Maui Latte and my husband ordered the Cabo San Lucas. The latte is one of the more popular menu items and was pretty much what I expected, but like other reviews had shared, tasted slightly more creamy and sweet than your standard. I did an online order and then arrived five minutes after my order said it would be ready. The place was packed. It's pretty and aesthetic, but like I said, it was crazy packed so there were many of us standing out against the wall and trying to move out of the way very quickly. I ordered a breakfast croissant sandwich and a coffee which came out to almost $18. I did have to wait an additional 12 minutes inside the store for my order. It's been a few years now that no matter the day or time I end up waiting no less than 20 minutes for a drink. Today I ordered a cold brew, an iced espresso drink and a drip coffee. My iced drinks were ready after about 25 minutes. I asked where the drip coffee was and nobody could figure out who poured the coffee, turns out nobody did. The girl who finally poured it was coming to the end of the pot and there wasn't enough to fill the cup so I asked if the other brew had more and I would just take a full cup of that brew. She started to add that brew to the cup she was already filling... what??? She was baffled I didn't want it mixed. Then asked someone to make more & walked away... no acknowledgment, no apologies, no eye contact. Another 10 minutes before anyone could figure out that we were still waiting for a DRIP coffee!! At this point my husband continued to wait while I went to the car. An acknowledgement of the mishap and/ or an apology would have gone a long way, a refund even longer, but there was nothing. I don't have any hope that things will change because the service has been awful for so long and yet the line is always to the door. So if you have 40 minutes to spare and don't mind a lack of awareness or acknowledgment that your drink is lost in the chaos - Cheers! read more

My new go-to coffee shop in Simi Valley! MaKenna Coffee is a small coffee shop located in a semi-busy plaza with a decent amount of parking. It has a Hawaiian themed ambiance, and mornings are often packed with children, college students, and working professionals getting their caffeine fix. They have a pretty extensive menu with a variety of unique options, including flavored Red Bull drinks! A great option if you want something caffeinated, but fruity and refreshing. Their most popular drinks have coconut flavor, which makes sense for a Hawaiian themed cafe. I'm personally not a big fan of coconut flavored drinks, but I love their Brown Sugar Cinnamon Cold Brew and Hippie Goat (a lavender latte). If you are ever in the mood for a pastry, try their coffee cakes. The banana chocolate coffee cake is delicious, especially warmed up! The staff are young, friendly, and nice. I wish I could give 5 stars because the place is charming and the drinks are good quality *butt* the girl behind the counter was wearing shorts so short she continuously was picking her wedgie which felt like a health code violation. I was in the area for a business meeting and needed a quick pick me up. Simi Valley doesn't seem to have a lot of coffee options but this location popped up so I stopped by. They have an extensive menu with specialty drinks, blended drinks, teas, and they also have a big selection of merch for sale. The place has a surfer theme, reminded me of my time in Santa Barbara. It is pretty spacious with plenty of seating options, but most people were ordering and taking their orders to go. Since it was my first time visiting, I went with their Maui Latte. I asked if it was sweet and the server told me that most of their drinks were sweet, because of the milk blend they use. I ordered it ice and waited for my drink. It honestly didn't take long to get my drink despite the endless line. I got my drink and headed to my meeting. The drink itself was not as sweet as I was expecting, which was a good thing for me, but the drink was very very very milky. It almost tasted like the leftover cereal milk. I got the Vanilla Caramel Chiller- it's an ice blended drink but most importantly, it's freaking delicious!! Place is clean and service was fast. The cashier was sweet. I stopped by this Coffee place to finally try their hot chocolate. This place is literally across the street from the work so it was convenient for me. I found parking fine because I came right when they open but it can get difficult if you come later in the day. When I walked in, they were still setting up for the day but I was able to put in my order of hot chocolate and their chocolate crossiant. The inside of this place looks relaxing and I think you should be able to work here as well if needed. There also some outside seating that this place share with Panda Express. I thought the hot chocolate was good but the chocolate crossiant is heavy so be aware. I got the crossiant hot, so the worker microwave it. Love the signage and decor that greets you when you come in. The scent of coffee beans wafting through the air. I stopped in a little before 10:30AM on a Sunday and it was packed(!) A dozen people were waiting when I came and there was a steady line of customers while I waited for our smoothie to be made. The pastries come from one person; warmed ir not warmed. The drinks come from the baristas who were non-stop working. Watching 5 of them in sync was a sight to see. In spite of their efforts, you have to understand that it's going to be awhile since most customers ordered more than one. I waited 15 minutes and was on the cusp of asking if they lost my slip. The gentleman in front came up, aggressively grabbed his coffee and popped off the lid. He got it all over his hand and then FLUNG it off on the floor and on my son and myself. He looked back but did not apologize. One barista noticed the lid malfunction and re-foamed milk to top off the coffee and added a new lid. Another barista noticed foam and coffee on the ground and asked if there was a spill. I was going to snap but just motioned to the gentleman who made no effort to clean his mess. The 2nd barista politely said, "has there been a spill, can I help clean this up?" His demeanor instantly reset me as I wiped coffee off my son and myself & opted to keep my words internally to myself. "Put yourself in their hangry shoes." Croissant sandwich was beyond soggy after the wait for the smoothie but my son was happy with the bacon still being crisp. (If you order food & it's busy, I would suggest eating immediately while waiting for your drinks.) Ham and cheese held up nicely during the wait and was delicious. Coffee cake was moist and had great flavor of tart and sweetness. Staff overall was great and well trained with excellent customer service. Bravo! We'll have to try them again when we're in the area.
