    Large beef bowl

Used to love going to Mako bowl in Pasadena (on Colorado), thought I'd try this one since the others closed. I ordered a large beef bowl, was surprised that a large beef bowl is regular sized kalbi short ribs at other teriyaki style restaurants. I asked for teriyaki sauce and the employee told me it's extra for more than 1- a oittke off putting since I just ordered a $20 large bowl. The food itself was tender and tasty, albeit skimpy. I enjoyed the side vegetables but was still hungry after my "large" bowl. There's no AC on inside the restaurant, on a 93+ degree hot day. Don't think I'll be coming back, sad times.

Chicken katsu $11. We choose mac and cucumber salad

We wanted to support independent restaurant. It's been here a while and really needs a bit of a refresh. 3-stars for our chicken katsu combo $11; salmon sushi bowl $15 and teriyaki chicken and BBQ beef combo $16 All your food is served up in take out containers. The only difference with take out is that they don't bag it for you. Even the sauce comes in a plastic sachet. The salmon looked too orange for natural fish, but it tasted fine. The katsu was ok. The Mac salad was lacking in flavor, but it was good to get fresh sliced cucumber and seaweed salad option. Weird 80-90s radio playing doesn't really help with dine in. But it goes with the interior of this place.

Pasadena classic for sure!! Been coming here for years and it's my go to place if I want a chicken bowl. The service is cool and decent everytime I come. This is the only mako bowl in Pasadena since the other closed! They have good size chicken bowl with many combo options. I usually order the spicy chicken combo with California rolls with a water bottle for 50 cent more or miso soup without additional charge. The ambiance is just decent nothing to opulent and pottery clean inside with about 6 or 7 tables that is spacious! I highly recommend here if you're in the city of roses and want a flavorful chicken bison and some rolls, they also have shrimp tempura rolls too! -Marshay D.

This Japanese place is pretty good. I had the chicken katsu curry and it was alright, nothing spectacular, but definitely a decent place to stop by when you're craving some Japanese curry.

The chicken is very dry and it's funny because there was so much chicken being cooked just makes me wonder. Did I get yesterday's chicken?

I was really disappointed. I was in a rush and needed to grab something for lunch before work, so now I'm stuck having it for dinner too. The chicken was extremely dry, the zucchini had no flavor--completely unseasoned--and the beef was just horrible. I wasn't expecting this at all, and I'm honestly surprised.

The place is definitely a hole in the wall Customer service is great. The girls were very helpful and very suggestive. The place could use a bit of tidying up Now let's get to the food The shrimp tempura were really good with their sauce. I really enjoyed. The riblets were really good. They just needed a little bit more teriyaki The rice texture wasn't sticky, which was great or over The Katsu chicken was very crispy and very fresh The seaweed cucumber salad was terrible Unfortunately, I expected way more than what I was served as far as the texture and the taste of it I love my seaweed and my cucumbers, but this one was very different no flavor The miso soup was as expected, as could be But for the price of the food, I guess you get what you are served The squash could use a little bit more flavor The potato salad was very dry flavoring. It lacked flavoring just like the macaroni. Thank you anyways for trying keep up the work add more flavor to the food

Yes. Came here after a hike on the arroyo Seco lower trail (boring btw) Looked up best chicken bowls in pasadena and this came up. I'm currently eating .... Very very good. Chicken is soft, veggies fresh and rice hasn't been sitting all day. Done right . Not sure if Teri and Yaki as good. No complaints from me at all. Come here! . Haha happy eats

Been coming here for years and never really had issues. They do great teriyaki chicken rice combos, salmon bowls, katsu and udon. Very affordable and quick. We like to alternate here at Mako Bowl and Taisho in Monrovia which has similar menu. Hubby usually get the large chicken teriyaki with easy rice and more veggies. I like their salmon bowl that comes with a side of seaweed. They chopped up the salmon here though vs cutting it up sashimi pieces. Overall a very quick and healthy meals. We used to dine-in pre-Covid, but no problem we just get it to go since we don't live to too far away.

During my visit, I ordered a Family Feast with chow mein, orange chicken, chicken with green beans, and eggplant tofu. Since I do not like tofu, I politely asked the employee serving me, Austin, if he could provide the eggplant with little or no tofu. Austin immediately told me that he could not do that and that the dish had to be served with tofu. Unsatisfied with the response, I approached the cashier, Hannah, and asked if I could speak with the manager. Hannah responded professionally and asked if she could help first. She listened to my concern, treated me respectfully, and attempted to assist me. I even complimented her by saying that she demonstrated excellent customer service and that I would hire someone with her attitude anytime. After hearing my compliment to Hannah, Austin appeared upset. Instead of focusing on serving customers, he approached Hannah and confronted her. He then went to find the manager, Ken. I found this behavior unprofessional and inappropriate, especially in front of customers. I even have a photograph showing part of this interaction. When Manager Ken came out, I explained my concern regarding Austin's attitude and lack of customer service. After some discussion, Ken eventually agreed to provide the eggplant dish with only a small amount of tofu. This demonstrated that a reasonable accommodation could have been made from the beginning. My concern is not the food itself but the manner in which I was treated. Austin seemed more interested in defending himself and discussing the matter with coworkers and management than serving customers. His behavior created an uncomfortable atmosphere and reflected poorly on the restaurant. I would like this matter reviewed and hope that additional customer service training can be provided. On the other hand, I would like to commend Hannah for her professionalism, patience, and excellent customer service. She handled the situation far better than expected and represented your company well. Thank you for your time and attention. I look forward to hearing from you regarding this matter. Henry Aba

I'd never been before, but I'd been wanting to try it for a long time. As soon as I walked in, I noticed two ordering kiosks with people waiting in line. Before I could even figure out what to do, a young lady with the biggest smile greeted me and asked if she could help. Her name was Patty. I told her it was my first visit, and she patiently explained the menu, especially the different spice levels. Since I enjoy spicy food, I confidently ordered the Hot level. Looking back... I may have been a little overconfident! When my food was ready, Patty brought it to my table with the same genuine smile she greeted me with. The food looked incredible, and the chicken was juicy and delicious--but after a few bites, I realized the Hot level was hotter than I had imagined. I laughed to myself and thought, "Next time, I'm definitely ordering one level lower." A few minutes later, Patty came back to check on me because it was my first visit. I told her the food was great, but I'd overestimated my spice tolerance. Without hesitation she said, "I'll change it for you." I immediately told her, "No, it's okay. I don't want you to waste food." She smiled and replied, "I want you to enjoy it." That simple statement really impressed me. In today's world, you don't hear that very often. It reminded me of something I had just read about Dave's Hot Chicken--"Keep us honest." Patty truly lived that philosophy. She wasn't just serving food; she genuinely wanted my first experience to be a great one. The food was excellent, but Patty's kindness and customer service made the experience memorable. That's the kind of employee every business hopes to have. I'll definitely be back--and hopefully Patty will be there again. Thank you, Patty, for making my first visit such a great one. That kind of hospitality really sets the tone for a meal. We ordered the Pork Mungbean Pancake, Rose Tteokbokki (creamy rice cakes with fish cake and sausage), Bibim-Naengmyeon (spicy cold buckwheat noodles), and a whole fried chicken split into two flavors. Everything we ordered was delicious and tasty. For half the chicken, I went with the original but added green onion and their special oriental sauce drizzle. The other half was spicy soy garlic. I'll admit, I liked the original better. I second-guessed myself when the owner's daughter mentioned soy garlic was their number one most popular flavor followed by honey butter, but I thought I would be different and try the spicy version. The spice kind of drowned out that garlicky soy flavor, so lesson learned. Next time I am going straight for the soy garlic and honey butter combo. For drinks, we tried the Korean coffee and cold yuzu drink, both refreshing and a nice complement to the food. By the end of the meal, everything was so good that I even found myself asking about catering their chicken for future events.
