    Large beef bowl

Used to love going to Mako bowl in Pasadena (on Colorado), thought I'd try this one since the others closed. I ordered a large beef bowl, was surprised that a large beef bowl is regular sized kalbi short ribs at other teriyaki style restaurants. I asked for teriyaki sauce and the employee told me it's extra for more than 1- a oittke off putting since I just ordered a $20 large bowl. The food itself was tender and tasty, albeit skimpy. I enjoyed the side vegetables but was still hungry after my "large" bowl. There's no AC on inside the restaurant, on a 93+ degree hot day. Don't think I'll be coming back, sad times.

Chicken katsu $11. We choose mac and cucumber salad

We wanted to support independent restaurant. It's been here a while and really needs a bit of a refresh. 3-stars for our chicken katsu combo $11; salmon sushi bowl $15 and teriyaki chicken and BBQ beef combo $16 All your food is served up in take out containers. The only difference with take out is that they don't bag it for you. Even the sauce comes in a plastic sachet. The salmon looked too orange for natural fish, but it tasted fine. The katsu was ok. The Mac salad was lacking in flavor, but it was good to get fresh sliced cucumber and seaweed salad option. Weird 80-90s radio playing doesn't really help with dine in. But it goes with the interior of this place.

Pasadena classic for sure!! Been coming here for years and it's my go to place if I want a chicken bowl. The service is cool and decent everytime I come. This is the only mako bowl in Pasadena since the other closed! They have good size chicken bowl with many combo options. I usually order the spicy chicken combo with California rolls with a water bottle for 50 cent more or miso soup without additional charge. The ambiance is just decent nothing to opulent and pottery clean inside with about 6 or 7 tables that is spacious! I highly recommend here if you're in the city of roses and want a flavorful chicken bison and some rolls, they also have shrimp tempura rolls too! -Marshay D.

This Japanese place is pretty good. I had the chicken katsu curry and it was alright, nothing spectacular, but definitely a decent place to stop by when you're craving some Japanese curry.

The chicken is very dry and it's funny because there was so much chicken being cooked just makes me wonder. Did I get yesterday's chicken?

I was really disappointed. I was in a rush and needed to grab something for lunch before work, so now I'm stuck having it for dinner too. The chicken was extremely dry, the zucchini had no flavor--completely unseasoned--and the beef was just horrible. I wasn't expecting this at all, and I'm honestly surprised.

The place is definitely a hole in the wall Customer service is great. The girls were very helpful and very suggestive. The place could use a bit of tidying up Now let's get to the food The shrimp tempura were really good with their sauce. I really enjoyed. The riblets were really good. They just needed a little bit more teriyaki The rice texture wasn't sticky, which was great or over The Katsu chicken was very crispy and very fresh The seaweed cucumber salad was terrible Unfortunately, I expected way more than what I was served as far as the texture and the taste of it I love my seaweed and my cucumbers, but this one was very different no flavor The miso soup was as expected, as could be But for the price of the food, I guess you get what you are served The squash could use a little bit more flavor The potato salad was very dry flavoring. It lacked flavoring just like the macaroni. Thank you anyways for trying keep up the work add more flavor to the food

Yes. Came here after a hike on the arroyo Seco lower trail (boring btw) Looked up best chicken bowls in pasadena and this came up. I'm currently eating .... Very very good. Chicken is soft, veggies fresh and rice hasn't been sitting all day. Done right . Not sure if Teri and Yaki as good. No complaints from me at all. Come here! . Haha happy eats

Been coming here for years and never really had issues. They do great teriyaki chicken rice combos, salmon bowls, katsu and udon. Very affordable and quick. We like to alternate here at Mako Bowl and Taisho in Monrovia which has similar menu. Hubby usually get the large chicken teriyaki with easy rice and more veggies. I like their salmon bowl that comes with a side of seaweed. They chopped up the salmon here though vs cutting it up sashimi pieces. Overall a very quick and healthy meals. We used to dine-in pre-Covid, but no problem we just get it to go since we don't live to too far away.

No more waiting for your entire party to arrive before being seated, when the restaurant is empty. The fish is fresh, and they offer more exotic selections instead of just the usual yellowtail, salmon, and tuna. Thanks for listening to your customers and making these improvements!

Ready to order, Waitress kept helping other diners that walked in... while we waited. By the time we ordered off the lunch menu we were told that we couldn't get the lunch prices. Yet we had been sitting there for a full 15 minutes waiting for one of the three servers speeding around. Finally one of the servers took our orders, couldn't understand her since she was taking very fast so we had to have her repeat herself several times. When we got our bills it didn't reflect the price for lunch. Server said because we put our orders in after 4..... after sitting for 15 minutes to have our orders taken. Lady in our party asked for the mgr, then the server decided to change the price of the orders. Our orders were slow to arrive

The…read moreDine LA menu was $78 per person, and after finishing the entire meal, I thought it was the perfect amount of food. I left satisfied without feeling overstuffed like I sometimes do at Chubby Cattle, but definitely wasn't hungry either. First piece of advice: make a reservation! This place gets busy, and I can see why. From the moment we checked in, the experience started off great. We were greeted at the front, our table was ready, and we were quickly introduced to our server, Jeffrey. I have to give Jeffrey a huge shout-out because he took our dining experience to another level. From his warm smile to his attentiveness and genuinely friendly personality, he was just an excellent human being. I would honestly come back just to chop it up with Jeffrey again. My water barely made it to half empty before he was already refilling it. More importantly, he paced every course perfectly so we never felt rushed or like dishes were piling up on the table. For drinks, I ordered the Imperial Palace made with Suntory Toki and yuzu, which was delicious and refreshing. My friend ordered the non-alcoholic yuzu lemonade, and that was really good too. Now for the food. The quality of the ingredients and meats here is no slouch. We started with the A5 Wagyu tartlet topped with caviar. This was one of those single bites where you immediately wish you had five more. So good. Next was the smoked ribeye tataki, which was another hit, followed by the chawanmushi with uni and okra. Everything was well balanced and beautifully presented. Then came the miso seabass, and I have to say it was right up there with Nobu's version. The fish was cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. For the main meat courses, we had USDA Prime ribeye, American Wagyu short ribs, and A5 Wagyu filet mignon. The Prime ribeye was incredibly flavorful and well seasoned, while the American Wagyu short ribs practically melted in your mouth. Pairing the meats with freshly grated wasabi made them even better. Another reason Jeffrey deserves recognition is that he actually cooked our meats for us. Even while taking care of multiple tables, every piece came out at a perfect medium rare. That level of attention and consistency was impressive. Jeffrey then prepared the bone marrow rice and cooked our A5 Wagyu filet mignon to pair with it. By this point in the meal, I was completely satisfied without feeling overly full, which is exactly what I want from a tasting-style experience. For dessert, we finished with the Miso Cappuccino ice cream. Since we were celebrating my friend's birthday, the restaurant added a really thoughtful personal touch to her dessert. They made a handwritten cracker with her name on it along with "Happy Birthday." It was a small detail, but it made the celebration feel much more personal and showed the level of attention Yakiya puts into the overall experience. The ambiance matches the food and service. Yakiya has a modern, elevated Japanese BBQ feel without being overly stuffy. The restaurant wasn't too loud, and the tables were spaced far enough apart that we could actually have a private conversation. For a birthday, date night, anniversary, or another special occasion, the setting works really well. Parking was surprisingly easy for Pasadena. They have a huge free parking lot, and we had no trouble finding a spot. Overall, the $78 Dine LA menu was a great introduction to Yakiya. The portions were just right, the meat quality was excellent, and every course felt thoughtfully put together. But what really made the night memorable was Jeffrey and all the little details the restaurant added to make my friend's birthday special. Great food can bring you into a restaurant, but service like this is what makes you want to come back. I'll definitely be returning with friends and family for future special occasions. And if I'm lucky, hopefully we'll get Jeffrey again!

There is a great mixture of sushi and yakiniku courses as well as some super refreshing palate cleansers between servings. The yakiniku literally melted in the mouth - yep that meat is special :) While it's not cheap here, the quality and taste really are worth it. My friend and I shared the following dishes: -Carlos Jewel Box: My favorite dish here. I just loved the variety. Sashimi and fried seafood on a bed of fluffy and seasoned rice. Also a nice umami kick from the ikura. The sashimi was tasty and standard, but I really enjoyed the fried seafood bites. The tempura batter was great and the seafood was nice and plump. -Tendon Combo with Cold Udon: Same notes for the tempura here, the batter was great and the tempura here is on another level. Still very delicious though and was no wait for 6 of us for lunch on a Thursday! The cold soba was also a good compliment to the small tempura rice bowl. They didn't have enough room for our party inside so we did have to sit outside which wasn't great in the warm weather. I'm glad I got to try it, as I've been waiting for months for the opportunity- as I also consider myself a lover of tempura and deep fried foods- but this didn't wow me as much as hoped a tempura place would. Maybe their batter isn't something I'm 100% into, and maybe hype played into it, but I'm not 100 % on the Carlos train yet. Maybe another visit or two will even those odds! *note: There is validated parking in the back for the first 60 minutes for Carlos Jr.
