I've heard of this first panda inn location in the past. ( aka Panda Express????) Definitely a step up of quality, over panda express. The honey walnut shrimp was our favorite of the table. Kung pao was great. Orange chicken very good. I'm sure there is a Chinese restaurant that is "the best " in LA area. But I have NOT found one . There are good ones, and many below Panda Express. Food, service, everything was great! We were seated at the sushi bar and it was cool to get to watch the chefs make all the different rolls they offer! The restaurant is huge, and they have plenty of capacity to seat large and small parties. There's a giant automated parking structure behind the restaurant which you get three hours of validated parking. My drink was always full - and they seemed to ask as soon as it was empty if we wanted a new one! My wife jokingly said, "As a Chinese person I would come back here" rofl so seal of approval from her. We had a mixed chicken pork shrimp and lobster dish which was great and beef fried rice along with some pork potstickers. It was all very hot and fresh and tasty. All the meat was tender including the lobster - not chewy at all. Our oyster appetizer was probably the highlight of the night because the yuzu foam was just so nice and refreshing. I also really like that the fortune cookies are wrapped in this brightly colored wrappers and dipped in white chocolate. Nice touch. Even though we were at the sushi bar I felt like the service was great. Oh, what a gem of a place we stumbled upon in Pasadena! We came here specifically for the omakase menu, but we'll definitely be making another trip back to try some of the main menu items in the dining hall. The omakase was delicious. The fish was fresh, the flavors complemented each other and the presentation was lovely. For the quality and quantity of the omakase menu, the pricing is very reasonable. I forgot which item was which but some of the items I really enjoyed were the tofu w/ ikura, the berries, oyster, hirame, mushroom broth (this was a palate cleanser but I couldn't stop drinking it), toro, chawanmushi, toro hand roll, and katsuo. I uploaded some pictures, which may be blurry but I'm not a photographer so whatever... Chef Hide was kind, friendly, and served us some really wonderful dishes. Our server, Tony, was also amazing -- attentive, friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely great throughout the entire experience. Even the manager stopped by to check on us, which was such a nice touch. They were also incredibly thoughtful about my birthday. They surprised me with a red envelope with a personalized note and a bag of brightly colored house-made fortune cookies (which were so good), and even a candle on my dessert. This is exactly the kind of warmth and hospitality you want when dining at any restaurant -- feeling welcomed, appreciated, and genuinely taken care of. The restaurant itself is also quite spacious, making it a great option for larger groups. They also have a large outdoor space available. The dress code ranges from casual to trendy/upscale, and the ambiance fits it all. It was definitely a plus being able to enjoy an omakase experience without feeling like we had to get all dolled up. Finally made it to Panda Inn after their renovation. The space is very well designed. It has the very high end and elevated feel like Din Tai Fung. It's reflected in the price point now too. The food was excellent. It's a bit more authentic Chinese cuisine than Panda Express but still appeal to everyone. The ingredients are a bit higher quality and the cooking techniques are more refined. We ordered spicy Serrano pork, Mongolian beef and upside down noodles with chicken. We enjoyed all three dishes. The service is very attentive. But towards the end of our meal we were slowing down eating and just chatting, the waiter kept coming back and asking if we are done. This happened at least 3 times and we felt rushed although it was not super busy and there were some empty tables. Another thing to improve is the pages of the menu book are sticky and wrinkled. We didn't feel so comfortable touching it. Overall this is a higher end Chinese restaurant with good food and services. It's good for special occasions. It never crossed my mind to visit Panda Inn. The owners also brought you Panda Express. They are located in Pasadena. They serve a lot of Americanized Chinese food. One thing I learned to appreciate over the years is Americanized Chinese food. We were in a private room. We had our own waitstaff. It was very nice. We started off with the Chinese favorite of sushi (sarcasm intended). We had rolls, nigiri, and Seared A5 Wagyu tataki. We had their lobster noodles, upside down noodles and the Panda Inn Special. Sure, it wasn't the same kind of stuff that you get in Monterey Park, but it was good in that it was not the same stuff you always get. Dessert was their white chocolate fortune cookie. We just wanted to give the place a try. So we ordered a few items. The waitress was nice and helpful. We ordered the Hot & sour soup bowl. This was enough for 4-5 people. I felt like this was the best outta all the items we ordered. The honey walnut tempura shrimps rolls sounded nice, but there was nothing special about it. It looked plain and tasted plain... Tea smoked duck sounded lovely, but also nothing special. The duck itself was pretty salty and a bit dry. Tasted like smoked ham to me lol The toppings and baos to go with the duck was very simple. No wonder it was only $36. When the waitress informed us that it was a whole duck, I was wondering why only $36. It was a pretty small size lol so it made sense. The presentation for the Bok choy & mushrooms was pretty. However, it was pretty plain. Overall, the two items were fresh. Chow fun was pretty salty and oily. We had to eat it with rice... The service here was amazing . I mean 5 stars . The wonton soup was delicious. This panda inn doesn't have family size but you can order double the serving to make it family size. Omg if you love ginger ale you just try theirs because they make an amazing ginger ale i love it. I didn't take too many pictures of the food because i forgot. We were able to get a table with a turn table so it made it easy for a family dinner and they allowed us to bring a cake for a birthday and they cut it and served it for us they even brought some candles for us. Super simple dishes but prepared very well. The noodles in the lo mein had the perfect texture. The orange chicken is very different from the fast food locations we are all used to. Needless to say, one of my favorites. The sauce is tangy and not overly sweet. The chicken is crispy and not all batter. Service/Ambiance: Smart casual. The dining floor is clean, and the restaurant utilizes their glass windows for natural light. It is pretty cold inside the restaurant so bring a jacket if you get cold easily. Service is great; on the above average side. Everyone on the floor is friendly. The restaurant reminds me of a banquet room because of the high ceilings and lots of tables. Overall, I would recommend Panda Inn. The price point is up there for Chinese food, but worth it. Stopped by Panda Inn again for a birthday dinner and it was a whole different experience! My previous experience with their extremely salty takeout food was as if I went to another restaurant ~ We booked a room which has a $400 minimum. The service was absolutely spectacular and the food all came out in a timely manner. I loved everything we ordered from the mushroom salad to the walnut shrimp; everything was perfectly seasoned. The ladies at the reception area were incredibly kind. Shoutout to Pilar, who took my call and extended my reservation past the 15 minute grace period because traffic was extremely congested due to road closures. She was so reassuring that it took the stress out of getting there. The parking structure adjacent to the restaurant is meant for the restaurant customers, and Panda Inn validates parking. The interior looks so elegant. It looks like a place fit for formal celebrations. High ceilings, lots of space between tables, a bar - it all screamed high-end. Which it was. Our Thai server was delightful. She offered her recommendations, most of which we took. The sweet and sour pork is usually the dish by which we gauge a Chinese restaurant's authenticity and competence, and theirs was sublime. Crispy but covered in that rich, tangy sauce. The beef fried rice was as expected and so were the lobster wontons (very small portion). We ordered the lobster with crispy noodles and found it overly salty so we had to send it back to the kitchen. Thankfully, they took it off our bill. The hot and sour soup was satisfying. I ordered a king salmon carpaccio, sweet and sour pork, hot and sour soup, upside down crispy noodles, and bok choy & mushrooms. The king salmon carpaccio was fresh and delicious. My favorite dishes of the night were the upside down crispy noodles and the sweet and sour pork. The upside crispy noodles were delicious but doesn't stay crispy for long because of the sauce that it sits in so if you like it crispy you might want to eat it fast. I love Panda Express so naturally I had to try the original, and more upscale, Panda Inn. What a treat! This location has its own parking structure and it seems newly renovated. It's huge! And beautifully decorated. 5/5 for ambiance We ordered a smattering since it's all family style, starting with the Mu shu pork. That plum sauce is delicious! And the staff were so sweet to wrap them for us. We also got the egg drop soup (this was good but nothing to write home about) and the wontons. For our mains we shared the orange chicken, sweet and sour pork, honey walnut shrimp and a side of green beans. Everything was fresh and delicious but my favorite was the honey walnut shrimp. This is one of my favorite Panda dishes and I appreciated that they were actually able to accommodate our walnut allergy so my husband could enjoy. He loved it! Came here with a large group for a bday celebration. We were able to get a room which was some nice privacy to have. The service was so great. I wish I got the name of our server but I just recall he had braces. His service was on point! Food wise I would say it was a hit or miss with mostly okay. Brisket 10/10: this dish was prob the favorite of the night. It was so tender and melted off the bone. The flavor was also great and it came with Brussel sprouts. Wontons 6/10: the skin wasn't too thick which was nice but the filling was wayy too salty. The sauce was flavorful tho! Walnut shrimp 7/10: pretty good and not too battery. Shrimp was fresh. stir fried beef cubes 6/10: usually this is one of my fave dishes at restaurants but it just tasted a bit weird here. It had a stale ish taste? Like the beef was frozen prior. The sauce was also too salty. Hot and sour soup 9/10: delicious! Perfect amt of sour and hot. Orange chicken 6/10: too much batter and barely any chicken. Ngl the orange chicken at Panda Express is a bit better lol. Lobster stir fried noodles 5/10. The noodles came crispy which was great but the lobster was definitely frozen prior. It was not fresh. If you didn't know, Panda Inn is the high end version of Panda Express. They recently renovated this location, so my group was excited to check out. First off, I have to say that I was SO impressed with the ambiance--it was way nicer than I expected. It's a super beautiful space. The vibes make it a great spot for a date night or a fancy celebration (which I saw multiple parties doing, from a retirement party to what looked like to be a more informal wedding party). It was packed here, so I highly recommend making a reservation if you can. We had one and still ended up waiting about 15-20 minutes to be seated. Service was extremely attentive and friendly. Food wise, I would say that it was okay. Everything was enjoyable but I'd say that I was expecting more, and that was with me coming in with expectations of it being Americanized Asian food. Our party of 4 ordered the orange chicken, beef chow fun, honey walnut shrimp, spicy eggplant tofu, and a sushi roll. My favorite item was probably the beef chow fun. This place 10000% hits the spot. I'm so happy I finally got to give this place a try. I've been here three times since and everytime I'm left feeling completely satisfied with my order. The space is beautiful. There are also things on the menu that you can only get at this specific location. Some of my favorites included the chargrilled beef short ribs, braised pork belly, and the lo-mein. You also can't go wrong with the walnut shrimp and the panda beef here. I've always loved Chinese food, and for years, Panda Express was one of my go-to spots. But as I've tried more authentic and elevated Chinese restaurants over time, my standards have definitely changed. A couple of weeks ago, I came across a video on social media saying that Panda Inn is the restaurant Panda Express was inspired by, but on a much higher level. Naturally, I had to see for myself. My family and I went all in and ordered a little bit of everything because we wanted to try as much as we possibly could. We had the Beef Fried Rice, Chicken Lo Mein, Pork Pot Stickers, Orange Chicken, Sweet & Sour Pork, and Homestyle Braised Pork Belly. Everything was delicious, but the Beef Fried Rice and Sweet & Sour Pork were the standouts for me. The fried rice was full of flavor, and the Sweet & Sour Pork had the perfect texture: crispy on the outside, yet soft and tender on the inside. The restaurant itself is just as impressive as the food. It's beautiful inside and out, with a spacious layout that can accommodate both small and large groups. Since most of the dishes are meant to be shared, they have rotating center tables that make it easy for everyone to try different items without constantly passing plates around. There's also a nice bar area, along with a sushi bar section. Overall, Panda Inn absolutely lived up to the hype. After this experience, I honestly don't know if I can go back to Panda Express the same way. This spot is definitely being added to my list of favorites. read more

The service was excellent and efficient. The food was definitely the star of the show. Everyone agreed everything we ordered was phenomenal. We each ordered a different entree and we were all able to share them and still take home leftovers! The beef short ribs were fall off the bone amazing. The revamped Panda Inn is a must try and is quickly turning in to a regular stop for us. Whether you're looking for a sit down gourmet meal or a fun time chatting with the staff at the bar, Panda Inn doesn't disappoint. For our most recent meal we sat at the bar and had an amazing dining and social experience. The bar tenders Trish & Taj were attentive and friendly and really added to the evening. We ended up doing mostly appetizers and sushi. Taj made great recommendations and even spoke to the Sushi chef's and prepared me multiple Omakase rounds for me. Atmosphere is a the style of a higher class restaurant but with not too expensive prices. We had the yangchou shredded tofu and the spicy eggplant tofu. Both were terrific. The best part was our waitress Johanna who was gracious and gave a great description of all the food and things to do in the neighborhood. Amazing! How did I not know of this place sooner? The place is very pretty and looks grand. Service is very detailed and feels like a higher end restaurant. The food is authentic and very tasty. When they aren't too busy most meat dishes can be subbed with tofu and made vegetarian. The mapo tofu and honey walnut tofu was soooo good. I also have so much nostalgia for a container the rice came in and chocolate dipped fortune cookies. They don't automatically give chopsticks but they are available. Lunch date with my mom and she wanted to go to Panda Inn in Pasadena. It's my first time back at the newly renovated Pasadena location. We used to go here all the time before the renovations. Huge difference in ambience, but same good customer service and food quality. They used to have Brunch on Sundays with Mai tais and Mimosas - wish they'd bring that back!! We ordered several things Cucumber salad, chicken lettuce wraps (order more lettuce wraps), the cashew chicken was good, but still prefer their Kung pao chicken. Mongolian beef, upside noodles with chicken, and brown rice. ALL DELICIOUS and portions were great - we had plenty for dinner too. Came for lunch on a Friday. They have a parking structure in the back and the restaurant will validate up to 3H or parking! The place is huge is beautiful. They have nice comfortable seating and lots of lighting. We were seated right away as well! The only grievance is that they don't bother giving you the lunch menu for lunch. You apparently have to ask for it. It kinda irked me but I guess I know for next time. The food we ordered was decent. We got a dungeoness crab salad, upside down noodles, and the panda special for protein. Flavors and presentation were wonderful. I was a little disappointed w my cocktail. The water lily tasted like artificial candy medicine. My partner got the Whisky Jasmine and Honey and was content w it. It was very spirit forward but the jasmine comes through which was nice. My husband and I had an exceptional dining experience at Panda Inn. It's easy to see why this Pasadena institution has been around since 1973. The beautifully renovated restaurant offers an elegant, upscale atmosphere that feels worlds apart from its fast-food counterpart. The original Orange Chicken was perfectly crispy with just the right balance of citrus and sweetness, the Szechuan Mapo Tofu was flavorful with a pleasant kick, the Wagyu Beef Chow Fun was rich and full of umami, and the Salt & Pepper Calamari was fresh, light, and crispy. A thoughtful finishing touch was the individually wrapped white chocolate-dipped fortune cookies--such a charming way to end the evening. Overall, everything was really good! I went with a large group, so we decided to do family-style dining. We sat on the outdoor patio, but the inside of the restaurant was clean and pretty. Service was good. They were attentive and packed all our dishes to go for us. All the dishes tasted delicious, but the egg drop soup and lettuce wraps were my favorites. I could honestly finish the entire egg drop soup by myself :) that's how much I loved it! The mapo tofu wasn't too spicy and paired perfectly with steamed white rice. The orange chicken and fried rice are always safe options. I didn't try the sushi, but it wasn't a big hit at our table. The only dish that fell short for me was the upside-down chicken crispy noodle...the sauce was pretty bland. My third visit, mainly to try their mapo tofu. OMG it's the best-tasting version I've had in a long time. Most restaurants either make it Cantonese-style (silken tofu, no Sichuan peppercorn), or Sichuan-style (soft tofu, too much peppercorn). The Panda Inn version is an ideal balance of the two -- soft tofu, mildly tingling peppercorn in a highly aromatic dark brown sauce. Eating it with white rice is mandatory. It reminds me of Iron Chef Chen Kenichi's signature mapo tofu in Tokyo. My compliments to the 'Iron Chef' of Pasadena Panda Inn! read more

Amazing! Fan of Panda Express, try the real deal and original Panda Inn. This restaurant has had its 3rd renovation and I so nice. Comfortable but classy. Our server Jacob was excellent. All of the food was fresh and delicious. I highly recommend! read more

This place absolutely lived up to the hype. The food was exquisite. This is hands down my new favorite Chinese-American food. You could tell the food was made fresh because everything had that perfect "crunch" to the breading. This was a weekly cheat meal so we went straight for flavor. The honey walnut shrimp was literally made to perfection. Crispy batter with a crunch. Giant juicy shrimp. Caramelized honey shards on certain shrimp. Walnuts fresh and super sweet. They REALLY sauce it up, so the shrimp at the bottom are in a pool of mayo-like honey sauce. My girl liked those ones haha I stuck to the top ones. The Panda beef was outrageous. Audible crunch with every bite. Salty and umami flavors exploded from the fried shell and were immediately combined with the sweet orange glaze. Definitely some MSG magic going on. I'm craving it just writing about it. Pork belly and fermented veggies rice had incredible depth to it. Not "earthy," but substantial notes of herb and REAL Chinese seasoning. This dishes flavor profile actually transcended the "Chinese-American" template and kicked it up into "authentic regional Chinese cuisine" territory Cucumber salad was great but huge cucumber slices. Not a bad thing, just never experienced that. Big mouth to the rescue. Truffle seaweed and oyster mushroom salad was super good. Very good and, yet again, REAL ingredients. The seaweed was thick and from the ocean. Not that neon green sugary stuff you can buy from literally any grocery store. Green tea lychee drink was perfectly mellow. Idk how, but they balanced it out to the point where I didn't guzzle it down like soda. It was literally "sipping quality." Massive and beautiful restaurant. Feels like you are walking into a palace. Great free parking next door. Super high ceilings with modern ambiance. I guess having billionaire Panda Express behind you comes in handy! The service was top tier. Waiter took our drink order and waitress took our food. Checked on throughout. Be ready to spend over $100 for 2 people if you really want to experience this place. It's worth it! read more
