If I pay over $8 for a tiny coffee it better be good and this place was delicious. I tried the iced egg coffee and it tasted like dessert while also having a good caffeine kick. The flavor is very unique. A creamy thick egg foam with tiny chunks of minty chocolate and a strong hit of Vietnamese coffee is the perfect pick me up. Service was fast and nice. LOVED this coffee shop!! So happy I stopped in while on my trip from Vegas to Portland. Portland has sooo many good coffee shops, but this one was definitely in its own category. They specialize in Vietnamese coffee, and my friend from Vietnam told me that this brand of coffee is actually the most famous in her home country, and I see why! The menu is very vast, they have food, pastries, and they have plenty of drink options hot/cold, coffee and non-coffee items. What was very interesting and actually a bit confusing was that they have several levels of their phin drip, I got whatever the cashier recommended, and it was very good! It was literally just a shot of drip coffee, yielded maybe less than 3oz of fluid, but it packed a punch of flavor and caffeine. We saw the "coming soon" sign for Legent Trung Nguyen in the Beaverton town center, and that piqued our cuiousity about trying the Vietnamese coffee chain in their Portland location. Everything started great as the shop was easy to find, parking was easy even though we arrived around noon on a Saturday. It wasn't overly busy and we were able to place an order and find seating right away. We ordered two meal and coffee combos: the banana coffee and pork shop rice, and the coconut whip cream coffee with the Legend pho. We also shared a beignette donut, which had a milky custard filling inside of the pillowy breading. The coffee came first and we loved our drinks. The banana coffee has a rich yummy banana cream, and the coffee underneath wasn't sweet, so there was a good contrast. The banana coffee came with extra bit of black coffee so you can adjust it to your liking. I also liked my coconut whipped cream coffee. The whipped cream has a stuble coconut favor with toasty coconut flakes on top, the Vietnamese style milk coffee was a bit sweet but that's expected. Then the food came, and they looked GOOD. The pork chop rice was presented beaufifully and tasted great. I liked my pho and I loved that it arrived sizzling hot. The broth was deep in color and neutral in taste, again, very nice to eat. The dining area was comfortable, spacious and relaxing and the staff were friendly and attentive. So why did I deduct a star from my review? Well... do you know they have a loyality program? The person behind the counter did not mention it so I only found out about it from a pamphlet on our table after we ordered all of our food and drinks. In the loyality program, you get 1 free drink after you purchase 9, and you get $5 off when you spend $50 or more. Sadly, I wasn't aware of its existence when I paid and the staff member running the register told me that they could not enroll me in the program after I paid, or provide me with any credits for the drinks that I purchased on their digital punch card. I think they should have told me about the loyalty program before I paid at the register, or should have allowed me to at least collect the points afterwards even if I could not get a discount on the total that I spent. Because of this issue, I left Legend feeling annoyed that I missed out on getting a discount that I would have been entitled to if they told me about their loyalty program, but also missed out on collecting two digital "stamps," or "stars," towards getting a free coffee through no fault of my own. Overall, it was a great experience until it wasn't so great. I probably won't be returning to this locaton and hopfully I will have a better experience at the Beaverton location when they open. This time at least I will know about the loyalty program ahead of time if nobody mentions it. read more

There is a Trung Nguyen Legend in PDX and it definitely deserves more recognition and attention. This spot is a chain from Vietnam and is bringing over a unique Vietnamese coffee shop experience. To get here, they do have their own parking lot with some parking spots. Inside, they have a spacious and modern setup with a nicely decorated interior. For their menu, they have a solid selection of different coffee and matcha drinks to choose from. Wifey and I got the Tropical Matcha and we really enjoyed the flavors. This cafe had a wide range of options for coffee, tea, and matcha drinks. The interior is very well decorated and calm, making it a great place to catch with up friends over a drink. Having been here twice in one week and both times receiving excellent and fast service, getting delicious coffee & pastries, and finding parking in the challenging parking lot, I know I'll be back sooner than later. My new favorite coffee place! Both times, I've had the Vietnamese Coffee with Sea Salt Cream to drink. It's so good, I don't know that I'll ever be able to try something else... but I'm gonna try! The beignettes are soooo good - two-handed-big, covered in sugar and filled with the sweetest creamiest custard ever, you'll wish you had room in your tummy for two. I also got a chocolate-filled croissant but had to take it home for dinner because I was too full of beignette to eat it. The second time I went, I had the caprese danish - puff pastry with pesto, cherry tomatoes & fresh mozzarella, baked to perfection. The dining room is open and bright with plenty of tables, although depending on the time of day, it can be crowded. I've been on a Vietnamese coffee kick lately, so I was ecstatic to try this spot when I was on this side of town. The parking is quite limited but was surprised there weren't many cars there. Came on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't busy at all (a few groups were seated and no line). The cafe vibes were great, plenty of seating and I love the light wood theme, it was very tropical meets forest. I asked them which drink is non dairy and they suggested the Banana Coffee since they use oatmilk in it. The service was fairly quick. To be honest, I didn't taste much banana flavor, but the coffee was rich and strong. The sweetness in the drink balanced out the coffee flavor. The hype around this place hasn't died down. I came here three days in a row and only managed to get in once on a Monday. I ended up parking across the street and walking over. The parking situation is a nightmare. The lot is tiny, and cars just sit along the side waiting for friends, pickups, or a spot to open. Once you drive in, you're basically trapped. When I arrived, a car was signaling to back out so I waited for the spot, and an employee came out to tell me to leave. Meanwhile, the cars blocking the road were left alone, even though that area isn't a parking spot. There's also a "No Parking" area right by the entrance that always has someone parked in it. If you drive by and see the lot full, save yourself the headache and park elsewhere. Inside, the place looks great. Nice design and vibe. The menu is pricey, but I had coupons so it felt more reasonable. We got the Vietnamese egg coffee, the coconut matcha tea, and the pistachio croissant to go. The croissant was just okay, but the drinks were pretty good. The egg coffee was too sweet for me, and I wonder if they can make it less sweet. It was also stronger than any Vietnamese coffee I've had as it kept me up until 3:30 AM. There are still a lot of items on the menu I'd like to try. This was a nice little coffee shop! We definitely made a mistake by getting coffee to-go, I think the experience here is as much a part of the charm as the coffee itself. I would highly recommend you take the time to sit down in the beautiful, large, well-designed cafe to enjoy your drink. The coffee itself was very good. I got the salted sweet cream and my partner got an espresso drink. Both were well made, but I will say that I think it was a little bit overpriced. I've seriously been living under a rock. How am I just now finding out about Vietnamese Egg Coffee?! I occassionally would drink Vietnamese Coffee because it can be so sweet yet very strong. However the combo of egg and coffee can freak most people out, but it's so good. I don't know if they replaced out the condensed milk for egg but the egg gives the drink that creaminess without being overly sweet. The sheer amount of options here for coffee/tea is impressive. Outside of the basics there is over 2 dozen drink choices to consider. Some are staples while others are very unique. Parking is hit or miss but, at least there is some. The menu can be a bit confusing trying to understand how drinks are split up. We had to drive back out, and park on the street at a nearby neighborhood. The first thing I noticed, was that their hours have changed to 8am - 7pm! Woohoo! Walked in and was surprised by the ample amount of space for coffee dates, small gatherings, and such. Very cute place, but slightly confusing to know where the line is for ordering - no visible signs. Got in line to order, asked what their popular drinks were: Vietnamese egg coffee and coffee with sea salt foam. I picked the latter for $7.75 and asked for less ice. After a short wait, my drink was ready. The drink was well prepared, and it looked delicious, it was as tasty as it looks. I was pleasantly surprised how delicious it was; right amount of coffee flavor and sweetness. I loved everything about this drink, no complaints here. Yes, I want to go back and try something else! It's the overall experience here that warrants the premium price points: presentation, creative signage, tasteful ambiance, TABLE SERVICE, no lame cardboard cups, etc. What's somewhat lacking are memorable food options. The raspberry croissant was decent, but a far cry from Jin Ju quality. One of their top sellers, Vietnamese Coffee with Salt Cream was very sweet, but delicious nevertheless. The not too sweet Egg Coffee is served in a perfect-sized glass nestled in hot water to keep it warm. Two servers and one of the female managers were very nice. Overall wait times are getting better (but good luck on weekend mornings.) If the back parking fills then I believe there's another on the side. I highly recommend approaching from east on SE Powell. Well, this is exciting! Today is the grand opening of Trung Nguyen Legend, a long-awaited Vietnamese Coffee shop on SE Powell. Headquartered in Ho Chi Minh City, the beloved coffee franchise has over one thousand locations all over the world - including their sister franchise Trung Nguyen E-Coffee. The brand grows their own coffee beans to distribute worldwide in a variety of roasted, ground and instant options. Visitors to this SE Portland coffee shop are in for a treat. The dining room is spectacular, all decked out in bentwood and cane furniture with almond-colored leather accents. There are serene murals, lattice panels, and gorgeous lighting throughout the expansive space. While drinks can be prepared to-go, so much attention to detail has been put into the visitor experience, I'd suggest relaxing in the beautiful space while enjoying your drinks. There is a wide variety of seating options throughout the dining room, with comfortable seating outside as well. For my first visit, I ordered an Ottoman Iced Milk Coffee, an experiential drink set featured at the top of their menu. It comes on a beautiful wooden tray with a copper pitcher and demitasse. The charming hostess Emily gave me a full rundown on how to prepare and enjoy the coffee, and we had a few good laughs as I stumbled my way through preparing my drink as a first-timer. Several hours later I'm still riding the caffeine high... oh, Vietnamese coffee, how I love you! I will be returning to Trung Nguyen Legend, time and time again. There are currently many wonderful coffee and tea drinks to sample, but I'm told they will be adding meals to the menu as they continue building out their kitchen. The two California locations offer pho, banh mi and rice platters, so let's hope that's in the works for Portland as well! I've been to this place twice now since they've opened and I tell everyone about it. The interior of the shop is beautiful with a good amount of seating. The employees are kind and helpful, and I've enjoyed everything that we've had there so far. The one thing to note is that there are no non-dairy alternatives for any of the fancier drinks. I was hoping to try the almond white coffee, tiramisu latte, or the banana coffee but those only came with dairy in them. However, I tried both the oat milk matcha and the coconut matcha and both are SO good. I got the oat milk matcha to-go and it came with jellies in it though but with a regular straw, so I wasn't able to eat the jellies until I got ahold of a spoon. Caution up front: parking is tricky. The shop has its own small gated lot with about 15 spaces (including one handicapped spot). Turning around or exiting takes patience, and backing in is your safest bet during peak hours. Otherwise, plan to find free street parking nearby and walk over. Accessing from Powell can also be difficult since there's no center turning lane directly in front. Inside, the café is spacious with plenty of tables for hanging out. Outdoors, there's a table for four and two sectional benches under a clear plastic/glass cover that protects from rain but provides no shade. The menu could use some serious clarification, especially the Trung Nguyen Legend Coffee Heritage section. Even after staff explained, I still felt confused about the drinks and forgot to ask how many shots of espresso were in mine. For a shop built around showcasing their brand's coffee, simplifying or clearly describing these options would really help first-time customers. I ordered the Creative 1, Milk, Ice, To-Go, 16 oz ($5.75) after being told by staff it was the strongest cà phê sữa đá on the menu. It was smooth and dark roasted, but only about a 2/5 on the strength scale at most, definitely weak for what was supposed to be their strongest option. Service was very quick for my to-go order, though I can't comment on dine-in wait times. They also offer a small selection of pastries and coffee merchandise for sale. So proud to finally have a Vietnamese brand coffee shop in PDX. First Soft opening day was busy but wasn't that crazy. Wait time to order and waiting for the drinks were about 20-30 minutes. So happy to have a good Vietnamese coffee place around town now that serves original real strong coffee beans. I went around 3pm today and even though there was a bit of a line my drink came out quickly and was delicious. The staff was super friendly & even tracked me down at my table to bring me my drink. The interior was bright and welcoming and there was plenty of seating which is a huge plus. I got the Vietnamese Iced Coffee with Sea Salt Cream ($7.75) & it was delicious. The presentation is beautiful, served on a tray with the ingredients for you to pour and mix yourself. There is a little tag with a qr code and information on it, so you know which drink you ordered and even how long to enjoy it (example: within 20 minutes). My husband said it's a pleasant amount of sweetness (not overly sweet), but the liquid that looks like creamer is what makes it sweet, so be sure to mix your drink thoroughly. The coffee is strong. I ordered the coconut matcha and enjoyed it also. Something about the coconut water and matcha makes THE perfect blend. I think their matcha is good quality because it has almost like a light floral taste. This drink was great because I can't really have dairy, even though everything on their menu has some amount of dairy in it, like the foam top. However, I didn't mind having the foam top as the dairy item in my drink. Thankful that I'm not absolutely allergic to dairy, or else this place is a hard pass for me. So, for those that are allergic to dairy, this is not the place for you, unfortunately :( I even asked if there were dairy substitutes, and they said they don't have any. Perhaps that is something they can add in the future, like soy milk. My daughter had a hot cocoa. She loved it! Perfect temperature and not super sweet. My husband enjoyed their coffee so much that he ordered their egg coffee! He was buzzing so much from so much caffeine, haha, but he said it's delicious. They also have baking goods, which seem to be very popular because not much was available by the time I arrived late morning. The interior is truly beautiful and has lots to look at. There is also outdoor seating. Parking is SO limited and hard to navigate in a tiny side lot. Everyone has to do a bunch of maneuvering to get in and out of this place. After a fabulous experience in San Diego (shout out Saigon Coffee!!) we wanted to check out Vietnamese coffee in PDX. Stopped in on the way home from work and was pleasantly surprised. The folks working were all kind, and our drinks were tasty! Super vibes and aesthetic inside. Twas pricey, but tasty! Happy to have this in the neighborhood. read more
