Beef broth - Has dairy so I couldn't try it. But everyone else thought it was a bit light? --- Ingredient notes to self to avoid and get again, on top of our usual... - Potato thick noodle (if get dry mix) - Tripe (they use to have more inners but didn't see as much this time) - Shrimp cluster is fresh in texture. Might be made in house? Some parts have no taste, and some parts where you can taste the shrimp/seafood. - Lamb slices - Tofu skin. - Scallop wasn't worth it. Overcooked last time but I'm a picky scallop peeps - A-choy, lotus, yam. Sauces/condiments: Garlic, cilantro, green oil, hili oil, numbing oil, light peanut-ish sauce (SO's favorite), black vinegar, sesame oil, soy sauce, shacha, oyster sauce. Drinks: Free water, and tea. The tea is pre-sweetened and good for ppl who enjoy sweet teas. The fridge next to the cashier has a variety of drinks to pick from too. Malatang is always a fun concept to eat so I was excited to try this place out! I was impressed by the selection of noodles, veggies, and fish balls as there was so much variety- honestly top tier compared to any other malatang place I've been to. However... I'm not a fan of any of their meats as they were all very chewy and didn't taste fresh but since the other 3 categories carry so well, this isn't a huge issue for me as the pot was still very well balanced. We were shocked by the level of spice our "medium" pot got, you can see the photo for reference. It was a herbally spice too, which wasn't really my fav so we scooped most of the spice out and it also just made it quite oily so we'd opt for mild next time. Everything else was good though, our pot shared between 2 people cost over $50 for over 2 pounds worth of food. The customer service was great too, the workers were friendly and efficient. This place is falling off in terms of quality. When I first came here, they had quality ingredients, better than in a regular AYCE hot pot. They had enoki mushrooms and large intestines, which are two of my favorites but very hard to find in restaurants now. Last few times I came, they stopped carrying the intestines. Huge disappointment because I always come here craving it and now I don't expect to find it here anymore. Today, they didn't even have enoki mushrooms. So why eat here when you can pay like $5 more and eat at happy lamb or shabuya with the same quality food, happy lamb is actually better quality, and it's all you can eat? Whereas here it's all weighed and they ingredients aren't even special. Spending $25 to eat a mediocre, limited quality hot pot. No thanks. The server also walks around unsmiling, no words. When my family wanted to go try Mala Town I had never heard of it. I thought to myself..... oh crap! I hate mala. I don't like food too spicy and I hate that numbing spice. But, of course being the good daughter in law and wife that I am I said great let's go and looked it up on YouTube. When I saw the videos I started to get excited. It wasn't only spicy food it was hotpot made with ingredients you choose from a buffet of various meats, vegetables, noodles and sauces. The price is $15.99 a pound. When you walk in you get a bowl similar to the salad bowl at Olive Garden and a pair of tongs and you go and fill it with what you want in the hot pot. Then they weigh it for you and ask which broth you want and you pay for it. They bring it to your table when it's done. It's that simple. They have complimentary water and tea or there is a refrigerator full of different beverages to purchase. I had the beef bone broth which had a creamy delicate flavor reminiscent of a tonkotsu ramen broth. I had basically just a few different cuts of beef and cabbage and bokchoy. It was so perfect on a chilly night. My husband had the signature beef broth which had a deeper beef flavor with the same ingredients. We wanted Nappa but it had run out when we went through the line. The only cons were that about a third of the items had run out when we were there. I guess they don't keep up well during little rushes in business. This is disheartening because you can't go back and get what you missed like a regular buffet. They also don't serve dessert. I don't know about you but I always have room for dessert no matter how much I eat. Last note, my Brother in law got the Signature beef broth with medium spice and it had about two full tablespoons of chili flakes and chili oil in it. He dad to go get a cup to scoop some out. So maybe ask for mild unless you like super spicy like Mikey Chen and you can always add some more from the sauce area. If I could give 4.5 stars I would. The flavor and concept is 5 stars but I would take half a star for not keeping the ingredients stocked and for the little blip I had with the man who asked my brother about my service dog then told another employee that he didn't think he looked like a service dog so sent her to ask my husband. He is most definitely a trained service dog. I don't know if he had a certain look in his mind of what a service dog looks like but that's like saying I don't think you are a doctor because you have blue eyes. read more

Love this place! FOOD You go in, grab a bowl and tongs, and put whatever ingredients you want in your bowl. There are lots of options. I saw some unique ingredients that I've never seen before at other places which was cool. I think these kind of places are great too for big parties because it can accommodate to different dietary restrictions. Then when you get to the cashier, you can pick your soup base. Like similar places, you pay by the pound. I think the pricing is similar to other places. There is also a sauce bar so you can make your own sauces. I usually load mine with the sesame ones but I don't think you can go wrong with other selections too. It's very customizable. SERVICE This is the most notable and memorable part of my experience. The owner (I'm assuming) is so knowledgeable, welcoming, and funny! I'd come back again just for him. He truly knows excellent customer service. It looks like a lot of people who come here are regulars which says a lot about a restaurant. We went on a Friday evening and it was busy and packed but service was fast and our food came out relatively fast after it was cooked. OVERALL ATMOSPHERE This place was so clean and nicely lit. The ingredients bar and sauce bar were very clean and organized. Plenty of seating. PARKING Easy. Big plaza parking. GOOD TO KNOW If you have leftovers, the workers encourage taking it home! I saw people do this and I think it's generally normal practice too at malatang places. There are to-go boxes for your meals as well as containers to take sauces home as well. A great plus are the broths, each option a recommended choice for any craving. I like the Szechuan broth for a nice spicy kick but the House Broth (which you can choose the spice level) is the best option. Obviously the single serving bowl is the appeal, being able to choose the veggies and meats and their quantities, personally I really liked seafood balls so I got a lot of that. I do wish that there were more options for mushrooms (like wood ear). I also liked that the service staff is very helpful in deciding the recommend taste you're feeling and keeping all the options refilled and clean, especially the sauce stations. The entire space though runs too humid and can be a little uncomfortable to stay for too long. Mala Town is located at Spring Mountain and South Jones Blvd inside a small plaza. There is decent amount of parking spaces available. When I went inside the restaurant, a team member had greeted me. I let her know it was my first time in Mala Town. She had walked me through the process of picking out the different ingredients, and then the bowl would be weighed at the end! There were so many different ingredients to build your own bowl at Mala Town! You could choose from Carrots, Spinach, Napa, Cabbage, Broccoli, Tofu, Lobster Ball, Garlic Beef, Spam, Garlic Chicken and so much more! I ended up building my bowl with the following ingredients Napa Cabbage Two kinds of mushrooms Konjac Noodles Spam Pork Belly Additional beefs (Brisket etc..) The bowl came out to be 1.75 lbs. and it cost approximately $32.00 for the bowl. The broth was a beef broth with mild spice. Afterwards, a number was provided to go to a specific table inside the restaurant. The entrée was provided shortly afterwards! There is a complimentary sauce stations where you can also get extra ingredients like green onions! The bowl was delicious! All of the ingredients were super yummy! The beef broth was flavorful! So there is a waitlist on Yelp--but for whatever reason, I am not sure what it is used for, to be honest. Because when we arrived, you literally walk in and the bowls to pick up your protein is right there. There wasn't much of a line, aside from the line that you're picking your toppings. We moved along like a conveyor belt, once we got done picking our toppings--from veggies to proteins, we got to the register and that's where you get to pick your broth. I chose the sweet and sour, while my fiancé chose the spicy one (he couldn't hang to finish the broth and his noodles, LOL). Once you chose your broth and paid for your bowl, based one weight. They gave you a table number to be seated at. Then few minutes later, they serve your bowl. It was very quick in and sit. I would say we took at least 5-10 mins for this process then got to enjoy our bowls. But they were very busy during dinner time which is the time we went. Very loud, very busy, very bright.
