We went there for family dinner. Food is ok. Waiter offered to refresh the soda glasses each time when he passed by. When the bill came, they charged us 20+ glasses of soda. Cost us $40 just for the soda. If the refill is not free, they should let us know and should not keep offering to refresh our glasses even when they were still half full. We will never come back and never refer this restaurant to anyone. read more

Came here for my mother's birthday and got a duck dish that doesn't seem to be on the menu anymore, unfortunately. The staff was very accommodating to our group of seven on a busy weekend night. It's a tight squeeze inside but the food and prices were well worth it. I also like the bar area. I should spend more time here since my place is only about four blocks away. read more

The people are so friendly and warming and inviting and the sangria is delicious the food is delicious the atmosphere is awesome. It's a hidden secret in the Trenton area. Service was friendly and was also very good. It's also nice to have on site parking in Trenton. The empanadas were very good but our main course was average at best. Two of us had whole fish , Branzino and Moharra... both were nicely presented, but tasted very bland. The third main course dish was the paella, which was meh. Deserts were very good, especially the Panna cotta, and the coffee was excellent. Sadly the other courses and good service couldn't make up for the mediocre main course dishes. read more

The perfect date night. This restaurant is off the beaten path in Trenton, but it is a well known gem. The service is old-world awesome with attentive and chatty servers. I'm no expert in Spanish food, but we really enjoyed the Paellas we ordered. We had a stuffed avocado appetizer that was tasty and fresh as well. Apparently they have live flamenco dancing and music, but not the night that we went. Would love to go back for that! read more

Simply amazing. The ambiance is awesome the service is superb. The food is ridonculous good. We had the chorizo and daily special of empanadas to start out with and from first bite we knew we were somewhere special. From the beginning to end every last thing we ordered from the paella to pork chops we were not disappointed. If anything we were mad that we could not have more. Portions are huge here so sharing is a good idea. Desserts were typical Spanish style with a great selection of sorbets. All in all we will most definitely be coming back here. Oh and if any of you are afraid of coming here just because it's Trenton. Don't Its a safe area and the food is most well worth it read more

Went here for dinner, the service is top notch, the waiters are super friendly and professional. The food probably gets about 2.5-3 stars but with that being said, it wasn't awful. I ordered the shrimp in wine sauce and it was flavorful. The empanadas we got for an appetizer were very delicious, the highlight of the meal. The rice and vegetables that came on the side were so-so, nothing special. The sangria was good and homemade. Another superb meal at Malaga. It was very busy tonight, and the atmosphere was like a large, friendly party. I couldn't wait to have the bean and potato soup again, and fortunately, it was on the menu. I also ordered a glass of white sangria. It was fabulous. To force myself out of my delicious rut, I ordered something different for a change--pork chops in garlic sauce. My mouth did a dance for half an hour. They were superb, and they were served, as always, with their excellent homemade potato chips, flavorful vegetables, and delectable rice. My husband had an excellent piece of fresh salmon, sitting atop a bed of sautéed onions. He ummmmmed with each bite. Our waiter was terrific, the service couldn't have been better, and it was so nice to see the manager, who was visiting each table in her lovely, friendly way. Service was amazing, attentive, and very informative. Definitely could tell they had pride in their work. We started off with white sangria, smooth and flavorful. What I liked about it was, nothing overpowered one another, call me weird but it's very hard finding balance. Next was the waiter, he went over the specials for the night and instantly the bruschetta with cured meats and cheese popped out, phenomenal! Bread was crunchy on the outside but had a nice chew on the inside. The cured meats really set it off. I'm not a big bruschetta guy but I would order this every time I go, absolutely perfect. After, we proceeded to main entree. Ordered one special, seared scallops wrapped in bacon with champagne butter sauce, 8 oz filet with creamy mushroom brandy sauce. The scallops were cooked perfectly, very tender and seasoned well. The champagne butter sauce was deep in flavor and a nice buttery flavor.. definitely not your typical butter. The steak was a bit more cooked then I would of like but it wasn't for me, she loved it though. I got the seafood paella, let me tell you, I was very happy. Most of the time you get paella it's not really cooked right, no crunchy rice and no flavor. The seafood was cooked perfectly. Had scallops, clams, shrimp,and mussels, nothing was over cooked AT ALL! Huge flavor, had to be at least 20 shrimp in this thing, it was nuts! We will definitely be back! Hats off to the chef and front of the house, great experience. read more

First and foremost, I must thank everyone who provided reviews for this restaurant ahead of time. It fell nothing short to all the accolades. I must admit that I was hesitant in heading into Trenton to check this place out, but you can always find a diamond in the rough! I took my wife here for our anniversary and wanted to experience some authentic Spanish food. We were greeted right away as we walked in and sat in the nice, intimate dining room. A few tables filled, but nothing abnormal for a Thursday night. Just sitting down and hearing the specials from our waiter, I could enjoy the ambiance. RED Sangria was what we enjoyed while enjoying our hot-crisp Empenadas and Chirizos A La Planca. Our entrees were amazing in smell, site and taste! I enjoyed the Mariscada "Malaga" and my wife tackled the Langosta Rellena. All were more than enough for two, but great to take some back home so that you can enjoy more of it at home. We indulged in the Creme Brule to top off our meal, however NEXT TIME we will try some others. It was no wonder i did over hear twice, two different parties discussing "When we were here last..." I understand why they would want to come back All I could say is PHENOMENAL. Service was great and the food was spectacular. read more

This is possibly my favorite restaurant. The food is very high quality and absolutely delicious. Everything is prepared to a meticulous standard. The setting is on the formal side. You don't need to wear a suit or evening gown, but slacks and a shirt (business casual) would be fine. That makes it dressy enough to take someone out for a special occasion. Service is very good. It's friendly and professional, and they cater to you to make sure your visit is pleasant. The majority of food is of a Spanish flair. With a good emphasis on seafood and Spanish dishes, everything tastes fresh and flavorful. As an appetizer, I had Garlic Shrimp. It's a plate full of small shrimp in a lovely garlic sauce that begs to have the crusty bread dipped into it. The Garlic Soup is equally delicious. The portion sizes are ample, with plenty left to take home. One of my favorite dishes is the paella. They have two types; one with just seafood, and the other with sausage and chicken mixed in with the seafood. It's a small platter of saffron rice with half a small lobster on top. Mixed throughout are clams, mussels, shrimp, and scallops and (optionally) chicken and sausage. If you go, try the Sangria. It's delicious and a wonderful complement to your meal. They have white or red sangria, and it's always wonderful. Pricing is slightly high, but fully in line with the quality of the food. A good dinner for two, with drinks and appetizers, could run about $80 or $90 (higher, depending on what you order). You can order less-expensive dishes, and two people can share an appetizer, but if you order high-end lobsters or filets, then obviously expect to pay more. Treat yourself and try out this restaurant. read more

I come here with my mother (who is from Peru) a few times a year. It is always packed, but they find a way to serve everyone quickly & with a flare. My favorite is the Mariscada Verde with enough garlic to kill a vampire. All the fish dishes are excellent & they have lamb & goat on the menu. Authentic Spanish cuisine by owners who care about their food. The guitar player is an added plus. Love this place! read more

I love this place. I always get the buffet for lunch. I've taken friends who've also fell in love with this place. The bread. .... the fresh Olive oil. ...O.M.G. top it off with their delicious cafe con leche! That makes an awesome top off to the lunch. They have live shows on weekends. I am surprised at all the rave reviews after having eaten at Malaga... well actually, we got our dinners to go. We had Mariscada Malaga and Mariscada Salsa Verde, suppossedly two of their best dishes, and my husband and I both attest that these dishes were simply uremarkable. What's more, my husband even asked for bread and was told that it was in the bag. It was, in fact, not. I have eaten at a number of Spanish and Portugese restaurants and Malaga ranks at the very bottom of my list with regard to the taste of the food. I will never go back and my advice to you is to eat elsewhere. Try instead Spain in Newark, or Ria Mar or Portugese Fisherman, both in South River. read more

I am very fond of this restaurant. The service is the best around, you are well cared for and made very comfortable. I have eaten here many times, and the only reason I took a star off is that it isn't as consistent as it could be....yet, I still recommend it and will no doubt be there again myself. The Paella has been incredible on several visits, as well as a pork dish that was out of this world. I love the way the plates are served, with amazing thick sliced potato "chips" as a tasty garnish. Second time visiting - first visit was with my daughter and it was okay, nothing great or overly special but wanted to give it another try being so highly rated. This visit I went with a date. We decided to sit in the bar - it was empty. For a Thursday evening the restaurant was almost empty as well. We ordered and shared the empanadas as an appetizer and a salmon special for dinner. The empanadas were overcooked - the edges were way too hard to eat. The salmon special was nothing special at all. It was extremely bland and the salmon was very dry. The only good point (if you can call it that) was the portion sizes were enough for sharing. As for the atmosphere - if you decide to go, don't plan on a romantic evening. My date and I cuddled up a bit in the bar after we finished eating (only 1 other couple was there) when the owner immediately came over and told us it was a "family restaurant and there were kids there" so we needed to stop cuddling so much. Ummmm....we're in the bar lady! Obviously, NO KIDS THERE! None in the almost empty restaurant either. Very disappointed with this restaurant. The much raved about sangria is pretty good but not worth the visit. read more

Not sure if they still do it, but I used to get the paella with veggies instead of the meat and it was fantastic. Chicken dishes are amazing (I don't eat seafood). Food here has so much flavor! This is a great place--food, sangria and the service are wonderful! I am deducting a star because it is very tight in here. Tables are much too close together. I also hate the location but that is not their fault. If I could make any suggestion it's that you should go on a weeknight when less crowded. And make sure you get a spot in their parking lot. read more
