Ok, so this is some pretty decent Thai. I'm still working my way through their menu, but the Phad Thai is consistently pretty amazing. I'd also suggest you upgrade some of your meal to include shrimp, as they're local and quite amazing! Service is takeout only, so your ambiance is the waiting area......but service is ultra quick while you wait, and the food is piping hot. Is it exotic? Nope. Just danged solid Thai basics. But, their spice level is very adjustable. You're gonna get low spice unless you ask them to upgrade it. I confidently as for a five: Thai hot. It's honestly not that hot, but it adds a lot of flavor. They also have a really nice hot chili garlic sauce that I'd encourage you to try. For the Thai aficionados, Id drop it a star. But, it's not for them. If you just want good Thai and don't want to drive across the river, this is your option, and it's a darned good one! I'll update as I get into the curries...... read more

Best thai in the area which isnt saying a lot, but i do enjoy their food. Shared the pad see ew lunch special with my son today and it was good. Thai tea was also good. We got shrimp wontons which i did not enjoy. My son thought they were decent. My parents got the cashew chicken with rice and seemed to enjoy it. Nothing had any spice and they didnt ask when ordered so make sure if you want spice that you ask. The restaurant is currently only open for takeout but you can sit inside and wait for your food. It was lunchtime and we were hungry. We walked around looking at all the menus in the windows of restaurants..... not really impressed. I mean if your in Long Beach, WA. and you want fish N chips or a burger, you my friend have found paradise. We wanted neither, especially not at these prices. Earlier we noticed a Thai Food place but it didn't open till 2:00 and it was a little before 1:00pm. so we kept looking for something we both wanted and after saying No to all of it including the Mexican Food place with their high prices, we noticed it was almost 2:00pm. We figured by the time we walk back Malai Thai should be open and we were right. There is No Handicap Access and it's only a matter of time before that becomes an issue.....more of an issue. We saw an older person with a walker go inside and sit at 1 of 2 tables. They don't have table service, Only Take Out. That's right, TOGO Order's Only! That was fine for us because the sun was shining and we saw an empty picnic bench next to a fish pond with a fountain, perfect. We both ordered Pad Thai, she had chicken, I ordered mine with tofu. Bought some cold cans of soda and waited. Our food came out pretty fast. Then again, we were first in line that day. We grabbed our stuff and headed out to the picnic bench, perfect. We opened our boxes and everything looked and smelled delicious and it was. We didn't really talk while eating. Just the sound of a coastal town and us getting busy with our food.I judge all Thai Restaurants by how they make pad Thai. Malai Thai has it down good. The best was the prices. For one thing, costal restaurants charge tourists rates on everything. Like more than double in some cases. Do they think we don't have an Amazon account. Malai Thai was priced fairly. Foods: nowhere close to what the dishes were identified to be. We ordered Drunken Noodles and a sweet chicken dish. The Drunken Noodle was not tasty and lacking in effort to boost its spices and herbs. Beef was sliced thickly and not tender. Poorly executed. Ambiance: it's a takeout place ONLY Service: quite timely in their promised readiness. Conclusion: would I return? The veggies were crunchy, noodles were chewy and the rice was fluffy making it a fantastic lunch. We always make it a point to patronize this family-run restaurant that offers an alternative to American food ( not complaining), when we vacation here. Dish flavors are fine, not bland, unless you're expecting metro city restaurant style food. I believe its very inclusive for curious palates that like to try different cuisines. I was so excited to see several vegetarian items on the menu. I called to see what time they close. The woman told me 8:30, so we headed over. Unfortunately, it's take out only. I wish I had known that, but we were already there, so placed an order for fried tofu and red curry with fresh tofu. The curry came with Jasmine rice, but we ordered a side of sticky rice, as well. The fried tofu was phenomenal! It doesn't look like much in the picture, but it was really good. The red curry was sort of so-so. It definitely lacked flavor, although I think I got 3 stars spice level, and was quite runny. It probably wouldn't have taken much to make it pretty good! I've lived in Thai restaurant Meccas before and I can't for the life of me understand how this place gets a 4+ average rating. I waited until a second try before posting this review. This is sub-par Thai food. I know we're in Long Beach, Washington, and they have no competition here, but you can drive just 15 miles and get good Thai fare across the river in Astoria. They do "just okay" with stir fry items, but a lot of the ingredients looked canned and they are missing the fresh Thai taste that good restaurants serve up. Ordered Take-Out since no dine-in service was available. Arrived at around 12:00 PM to pick up some food on the way to Long Beach since we were in town. Decided to get some Spring Rolls, Chicken Fried Rice, Seafood Lover and Drunken Noodles. We were the only customers when we arrived. But after a few minutes, one customer after another decided to show up. Guess it was a popular joint as well as the time was during lunch rush. We got our food in about 20 minutes as we sat and waited for them. Once we got the food, we drove to the beach and ate there. Liked the taste of the Peanut Sauce, Noodles were tasty, the Fried Rice was good and Seafood dish was pretty good as well. The chicken in the rolls were kind of dry, though. I would recommend this Thai restaurant to anyone that visits this area. Overall, the taste of the food were flavorful and seasoned well. Enjoyed the entrees that we ordered. Which was good but could have went with a four if it had been offered. Lunch portions not bad at $8/$9. Food was okay... Tried the fried rice as one reviewer had said it was the best she had ever had...it was good, but I wouldn't say the best. Drunken noodles has a good mix of veggies. It was very, very decent. Not the best Thai food I've ever had, not by a long shot, but for the region/area, it was quite good. Nice flavor, definitely some better spice than previous ones. It's pretty aligned to some others' experiences here. It is take-out only so that was a bit of a surprise, but that was alright we drove back the 15-20 minutes up the peninsula. The food kept okay. Got fresh rolls and chicken satay. Every single other Thai restaurant I've ordered Chicken Satay from has it on a skewer, but this was more of a curried chicken with the familiar flavors. Was still tasty, just different. I think I prefer the skewered versions. Peanut sauce was really good and not as sweet and candied as others. Can definitely recommend for sure, just plan to take it out and wait a few. read more

Headed back from the coast after a long weekend and decided we wanted some thai food. Based on other Yelp reviews, Malai thai seemed like our best bet in the area (Long Beach Peninsula). A sign on the door says they are only doing take out right now (because of COVID) so we ordered, and then waited for our food. This restaurant is definitely staffed by Thai people (could hear them speaking in Thai while we were waiting). That's always a good sign. However, it's a double-edged sword because the woman who took our order had a hard time understanding anything other than orders for food. We asked for extra napkins and she didn't understand what we were saying. We also said "how's business going?" and she looked at us with a blank stare. Oh well. So much for chit chat. :) More importantly, we got our food in a reasonable amount of time and when she handed it to us I knew right away that we had over-ordered (we ordered one Tofu Pad Thai and one Chicken Pad Kee Mao - drunken noodles, and one order of spring rolls). When she handed me the bag, it literally felt like approximately 8-10 lbs of food. Yowza. We took the food back to our car and proceeded to dig in. Yep, the portions are GINORMOUS. We had enough food for 4-5 people, EASY. The Spring Rolls were good (crisp and flakey outside) but nothing out of the ordinary. The noodle dishes were decent and had generous portions of noodles although we both would have preferred a bit higher vegetables/noodles ratio. Taste-wise, while it was completely acceptable, the food was a little bit under-spiced for our tastes, so next time we go (and yes, it was good enough that we would go again) we will try to request that they make the food a little more spicy. Delicious food! I ordered cashew nut with tofu and tom yum with chicken. The food is fresh and flavors are well balanced. The people who work there were very sweet and made sure my order was correct and that I had napkins and utensils as it's to go only. I asked for a special Thai condiment called prik nam pla. They didn't have any but they were so nice to make it specially for me! I highly recommend this place. Yum!!! read more

Previous reviews of this restaurant made me excited to try it. And was not disappointed! Such flavorful food. A LOT of food! We normally order three dishes and an extra order of rice, leaving the two of us with "some" leftovers. We have leftovers for a couple meals for both of us. Highly recommend. Valentine's Day Lunch This was our first time to Malai and it won't be our last. Everything was thoughtfully prepared and yummy. They boast excellent service too. We enjoyed Jasmine Tea, a Fried Calamari Appetizer, followed by Coconut Soup with Shrimp and Cashew Chicken. The Coconut Soup was our favorite. Just one bowl of that is enough for two hungry diners. The Calamari was our second favorite. They serve it with a crispy batter, drizzled with a Mae Ploy and sour cream sauce. There was nothing wrong with the Cashew Chicken even though it was our least favorite dish. It came with HUGE and abundant cashews. Having spent a few days at Cape Disappointment State Park just 15 minutes up the road, this was one of the few modern, semi-upscale (not a dive) restaurants on the peninsula as far as I could tell and the highest rated of two on Yelp. We arrived at the front door on Wednesday night, but, oddly enough, they were "Closed", so we had to find somewhere else to eat in a town with few dining options, even fewer in early spring before the summer throngs arrive. The Chicken Pot Stickers with Ginger Soy Sauce ($7) were pretty good, coming with seven at exactly a buck a piece. The accompanying sauce was one of two "disappointments" of the evening, a small cup half filled with soy sauce and a little ginger which I could not taste. The other disappointment and a pet peeve was when our entrees both arrived before we were even half-way finished with our appetizer. No excuse. I ordered my Thai go-to, Massaman Curry, with beef, potatoes, onion and peanuts ($11). It was good, not the best I have had by far, coming with a fair amount of thinly sliced beef in a Massaman sauce that was also "thinner" than most. The flavor was still pretty good. My wife had Malai Noodles Special (D1 - $9.95), coming with stir fried yakisoba noodles with cabbage, carrot, onion, celery and beansprouts topped with crispy chicken strips and a sweet and sour sauce. The veggies were fresh and the chicken crispy and abundant, a good value at less than $10. Again, not the best Thai I have had and I love Thai food, but a relative bargain in a tourist town with few decent dining options and even fewer TravelValues. My spouse and I are vegetarians and we got the green curry with tofu. It was nice and spicy, (albeit a bit too sweet for us) the tofu was cooked perfectly. The best green curry we have had! It was addicting! The owner was so kind and friendly as well. We will definitely be returning for future visits. read more

Amazing Thai food!! I'm from Portland, eat lots of great Thai food and this place is easily top three Thai places I've been to in the Northwest. Who would of thought in Long Beach?? Went there for lunch and then when some plans fell through, went for dinner too! Had red curry, salad rolls, seafood stir fry, all delicious! Huge portions, quality ingredients, best restaurant in Long Beach in my opinion. Owned by real Thai people from Bangkok as well so your getting authentic recipes, not some American ran Thai place. Very nice people, great service and you can tell they care about the quality of food. Presentation, service, food all spot on. One of my favorite, if not on top of my list of all Thai restaurants I've ever been to. Delicious appetizers partnered with yummy entrees. I ordered the rice soup with chicken breast, it was phenomenal. The spring rolls are fried to perfection, not greasy or too crunchy but just right, the fresh rolls follow suit neatly rolled with shrimp and chicken inside, what a bonus! My party also ordered the cashew chicken dish, and the Thai broccoli, we will be back and tell all our friends about this place. One more thing the staff which I believe to be the owners were beyond friendly and polite, so fast with the cooking and it all came out beautifully plated. It's a small place, but don't let the dated decor bother you, the food speaks volumes. read more
