Uncle Tut Fritango with Ling Cod and Pork
    Christopher O.

We ended up here because another restaurant close by had a 45 minute wait for a table and it was the happiest of accidents. The restaurant had increidbly friendly and attentive wait staff and had the warmth of visiting a close relative who hasn't seen you in a while. The food was amazingly delicious and was seasoned very well. The plantains were slightly crispy and simultaneously tender as well. The pork morsels were a huge hit with us. Just when we thought the food couldn't be better, they offered desert and my wife got a slice of the beautifully baked carrot cake for herself, which she never does. It was crisp, gingery, and not too sweet. Even the beer was great! I can't say enough positive things about this place or the kind folks who run it. They deserve all the business and success , I wish we were local so we could visit multiple times!

    Fritanga - chicken

Conveniently located across the street from a restaurant with very long wait times. We stopped here by chance and while the place was completely empty, it was great! We ordered the chicken fritanga, steak fritanga, and salmon chowder. The portions are perfect, and everything is very flavorful. I loved the fried plantains too. The chicken is breast me but quite juicy. Steak is a bit dry in comparison but still good. I liked the flavor of the chowder but I felt that it was a bit thick, maybe it had been on the stove for a while. Still good but I would prefer something thinner. Overall, we had a really good experience. Food came out quickly, service was good, and the decor and music is cute. Recommend!

Have to say I was surprised by almost 5/5 on Yelp after trying this place. The service was extremely friendly, yes, but my mahi mahi was so bland... the whole meal was pretty bland and was missing flavor and the only thing I liked was the fried cheese. Maybe they have better options meat wise but I can't recommend the fish! Also have to say the portion of fish for $20 a plate was pretty small.

Fritanga: cod, beans and rice, plantain, fried cheese (queso frito). Other meat and fish options are available.

First off, the owner and cook are welcoming, helpful and friendly. But the food! Oh my, so delicious! This is Nicaraguan seafood. Plates were fresh, with good portions, but not overwhelmingly large. They offer a catch of the day, which was so great. If you need Gluten free, absolutely go here! There were only two things on the menu that were not gluten-free - oyster crackers for the soup and Mac and cheese on kids meal. Even the desserts were gluten-free, made especially by a bake shop for this restaurant. We loved it.

Wow wow wow was this place good! This little restaurant in downtown Astoria is amazing! When we walked in we were quickly greeted and seated. The sound of festive music played in the background. The smell of seasonings permeated the air. I knew we had made a great choice. I started with a bowl of smoked salmon soup. Thick and hearty. Well seasoned and balanced. It was a perfect start on the cool and misty evening. It came with a package of oyster crackers. My only note is that I wish the bowl was bigger! For my main meal I had shrimp lettuce wraps. I am actually not sure of the actual name on the menu. They were also well seasoned. The veggies and shrimp were cooked perfectly. The side of black beans were flavorful. Be sure to ask for the side of the salsa. It packs a nice little bit of heat. We actually had two small bowls of it with our food. REALLY tasty!!!! Our service got better as the meal went on. Initially we were helped by a lady who was nice and efficient. Later a man who had brought out the salsa was helping us out. We chatted a bit and promised to come back before we leave town. Highly recommended!!!

We stopped here before heading to Washington to continue our exploration of the Lewis & Clark National Park. It was our first time eating Nicuaguan food and it was delish!! We ordered the fritanga with Ling Cod , tacos, Uncle Tuts bowl with steaks. Salmon chowder and Mac n Cheese. Everything was good! I think everyone in my party cleaned out our plates. Since everything was pretty good, we decided to try the griddle lemon pound cake with blueberries sauce. We just ordered one to share bc everyone was already full. However, a single bite was not enough. LoL. However, we resisted on ordering more. I highly recommend stopping by this restaurant. It has excellent costumer service and great food. The price is also very decent.

Centrally located (in the former Drina Daisy space), Tres Bro's had received terrific reviews when we were looking for lunch. There's a nice waiting area near the entrance if you are looking for to-go yumminess, and a large side room off to the left, for sit down dining. We sat down to a spectacular Shrimp Ceviche and a Fritanga, which turned out to be a refined take on the old school platter that you might get at a Mexican restaurant. The Tres Bro's Nicaraguan variation had rice and whole beans topped with sour cream and Cotija cheese, a lovely piece of fish, picada (pico de gallo style salsa), sweet plantains, and a sizeable chunk of pan seared cheese!!! Service was attentive, but since the kitchen is located off the entry space, the staff isn't hovering, but instead discretely disappearing to tend to business elsewhere. I may have overemphasized the wonderful Fritanga just due to the number of items on the plate, so I want to close by saying that the Ceviche here was probably the best one I've ever had.

Fritanga with Ling Cod - Excellent!

This is my first visit here, but it won't be the last! Once upon a Time, I got to live in the Caribbean and sample the food - this is definitely it. Service is timely, everything is clean and makes you feel like you're sitting in a café on the beach. Really loved the queso Frito, haven't had anything like that in the northwest before. And finally, I don't know where they get their plantains, but I'm sure glad they do!

Stop deciding on what to eat and come straight here!!!! We came in for dinner tonight and it was incredible! Ordered the ensalada de pepino and the mahi mahi fritanga. The pepino was bright and fresh and the perfect starter to our meal. The fritanga was such a generous portion and so yummy. I could eat an entire plate of just the rice and beans alone. Service was great, staff was so friendly and attentive. Loved this place will definitely come back and recommend to anyone visiting Astoria.

Great find! See the photos. Started with the smoked salmon chowder. Best ever. (Not gummy and GF). The shrimp was perfectly cooked and the cod super fresh. They made great tacos and lettuce wraps. Ran out of belly space for other stuff. Next time. BTW. Everything is GF

Randomly came upon this restaurant walking around downtown Astoria. A few very satisfied customers came out of the restaurant singing praises for this place and convinced us to eat here. Food, service, and ambiance were utterly fantastic. 3 of our party ordered the Fritanga with ling cod and totally demolished our plates. To me, the plantains were especially delicious. Would recommend 100% and will definitely come back!

    Fresh scallop ceviche... Deliciouso!!

When I come to Astoria I usually eat at the Fish house... Grateful that it was closed, as It forced me to look for another place with fresh seafood... walked down the street and found this little place. I love Nicaraguan food and they had fresh fish along with many other mouthwatering dishes. I oredered the fresh scallop ceviche... it was so delicious! And a side of plantains, these were the sweetest most flavorful plantains I've ever had! What a great little place!! I loved it!

No! This place was…read morereally disappointing. Came here based on reviews, but I. would caution anyone to steer clear of this place. It started with flat champagne drinks. That's just a fail, and it suggests a place that doesn't bother keeping things fresh. It kind of went downhill from there. We were looking for nice fresh fish and chips, wile we were out along the coast. We live near the coast ourselves, and are no strangers to good seafood. We decided to do the Cod and the Halibut fish and chips. While the halibut seemed fresh, the cod was waxy and looked old, and frankly i found it somehow mildly nauseating. I couldn't bring myself to teat it. The batter was crsipy, but lacked seasoning and tasted really flat (cardboard?). Aside from that, the coleslaw seemed pretty old soggy. Gross. Not impressed at all - some of the worst fish and chips I have ever had. Some people may like this kind of food - but i will actively avoid this place the next time in Astoria.
