There were only two things on the menu that were not gluten-free - oyster crackers for the soup and Mac and cheese on kids meal. Conveniently located across the street from a restaurant with very long wait times. We stopped here by chance and while the place was completely empty, it was great! We ordered the chicken fritanga, steak fritanga, and salmon chowder. The portions are perfect, and everything is very flavorful. I loved the fried plantains too. The chicken is breast me but quite juicy. Steak is a bit dry in comparison but still good. I liked the flavor of the chowder but I felt that it was a bit thick, maybe it had been on the stove for a while. Still good but I would prefer something thinner. The service was extremely friendly, yes, but my mahi mahi was so bland... the whole meal was pretty bland and was missing flavor and the only thing I liked was the fried cheese. Wow wow wow was this place good! This little restaurant in downtown Astoria is amazing! When we walked in we were quickly greeted and seated. The sound of festive music played in the background. The smell of seasonings permeated the air. I knew we had made a great choice. I started with a bowl of smoked salmon soup. Thick and hearty. Well seasoned and balanced. It was a perfect start on the cool and misty evening. It came with a package of oyster crackers. My only note is that I wish the bowl was bigger! For my main meal I had shrimp lettuce wraps. I am actually not sure of the actual name on the menu. They were also well seasoned. The veggies and shrimp were cooked perfectly. The side of black beans were flavorful. Be sure to ask for the side of the salsa. It packs a nice little bit of heat. We actually had two small bowls of it with our food. REALLY tasty!!!! Our service got better as the meal went on. Initially we were helped by a lady who was nice and efficient. Later a man who had brought out the salsa was helping us out. We chatted a bit and promised to come back before we leave town. We stopped here before heading to Washington to continue our exploration of the Lewis & Clark National Park. It was our first time eating Nicuaguan food and it was delish!! We ordered the fritanga with Ling Cod , tacos, Uncle Tuts bowl with steaks. Salmon chowder and Mac n Cheese. Everything was good! I think everyone in my party cleaned out our plates. Since everything was pretty good, we decided to try the griddle lemon pound cake with blueberries sauce. We just ordered one to share bc everyone was already full. However, a single bite was not enough. LoL. However, we resisted on ordering more. I highly recommend stopping by this restaurant. It has excellent costumer service and great food. Centrally located (in the former Drina Daisy space), Tres Bro's had received terrific reviews when we were looking for lunch. There's a nice waiting area near the entrance if you are looking for to-go yumminess, and a large side room off to the left, for sit down dining. We sat down to a spectacular Shrimp Ceviche and a Fritanga, which turned out to be a refined take on the old school platter that you might get at a Mexican restaurant. The Tres Bro's Nicaraguan variation had rice and whole beans topped with sour cream and Cotija cheese, a lovely piece of fish, picada (pico de gallo style salsa), sweet plantains, and a sizeable chunk of pan seared cheese!!! Service was attentive, but since the kitchen is located off the entry space, the staff isn't hovering, but instead discretely disappearing to tend to business elsewhere. I may have overemphasized the wonderful Fritanga just due to the number of items on the plate, so I want to close by saying that the Ceviche here was probably the best one I've ever had. read more

The pepino was bright and fresh and the perfect starter to our meal. The fritanga was such a generous portion and so yummy. I could eat an entire plate of just the rice and beans alone. We knew they had a successful food truck, but I am so happy they are now in a solid brick and mortar location. The restaurant is cozy and comfortable. You are greeted by an open kitchen, and it's the divine smells rising from that kitchen that makes you realize "this is going to be good"! Our server was a young man who has restored my faith for the younger generation. You can tell this family owned establishment is raising their boys well. He was friendly, informative, attentive, responsible and self-assured. Just an absolute delight. His brothers were equally kind and I enjoyed watching them assemble their Christmas tree. The chef and her husband both stopped by our table, as well, and that was also a nice touch. They should be proud of their boys and their product. The food? What can I say. Absolutely sublime. The Smoked Salmon Chowder is a show stopper. Don't miss out on a cup, or better yet, a bowl. The smoky creaminess was a welcomed warming appetizer for our main course. My husband got the Grilled Ling Cod, while I decided on the Chicken Fritanga. Suffice it to say, there was very little talking and more stuffing of faces at our table. They also use locally sourced products, which I love. You know you're getting the freshest and best. Well done! I believe we may have found our new favorite restaurant in Astoria. Our waiter suggested we try the Fritanga if we wanted true Nicaraguan experience. Two of us did and two of tried the lettuce wraps. We had the Chancho Frito plate and it was phenomenal ... the pork was cooked to absolute perfection and all the accompaniments were awesome! The Maduro con Frito was equally delicious ... the combination of pan fried plantains with queso fresco and picado were amazing! We finished the meal with the gluten free carrot cake ... definitely save room!! Both desserts are delicious, but the carrot cake presentation is so pretty ... and the dulce de leche takes it to the next level! A family run restaurant with excellent service is the cherry on top! After having a rather odd customer service interaction with a hostess at a nearby restaurant that involved a 30 min wait for a nearly empty restaurant that closed in 50 min - we decided to walk around while we waited. And thank goodness we did! We stopped at Tres Bros - a Nicaraguan restaurant that has a following from its previous incarnation as a food truck - to look at the menu. We were immediately greeted by someone letting us know to let them know if we had any questions. Not hovering but available. While we debated, the patrons seated outside shared how wonderful the food was. Always a great sign. The menu included rib eye and scallop ceviche so both my wife and I were happy. At the recommendation of the owner we had the scallop ceviche - and it is to die for - I am still dreaming about it - they do a medium, hot and habanara - we had the habanara and it was so delicious. Definitely hot - I was crying a bit at the end lol and so addictive that I was continuing to eat every bit- it was that good. The rib eye was perfection and I had the ling cod (catch of the day) - there truly is nothing like fresh caught fish. The service was great, the music fun, and the food well worth a trip back. Liquor license is in the works but don't let that stop you - the food is absolutely worth skipping wine with dinner. read more

The service was awesome, I'm new to this cuisine so I had I think the owners son explain the different dishes to me. Unfortunately I was disappointed with how small my portion was for a $22 meal. I ordered 2 uncle Tut surf and turf Fritanga. One with shrimp and Steak, the other with Fish and steak. It was very underwhelming, the fish was smaller than my pinky and small. Everything else was delicious but just such a small portion where every other photos I had seen they were decent sized . I went back recently and ordered via door dash. I'm so happy I tried it again! I ordered the surf and turf meal again with steak and shrimp!! It was 10/10 the portion was definitely appropriate and everything was delicious! The mango ceviche was the best I've ever had! Really love the salmon clam chowder, really enjoyed the multiple tastes within each spoonful. Some clam chowders can just be plain without much variety, but there's was exceptional.
