I really like this place. Their "Thai hot" is, for me, just right, which is rare when it comes to spice. This level is right at that point where it doesn't cross the line such that all other flavors are obliterated by capsaicin. I commend them on finding that line. The food is well-made, without a lot of gloopy sauces. The produce tastes and looks fresh. I've had all of their curries now and no complaints on any of them. Needing to eat lunch, I yelped looking for a Thai food place and wow was I happy! 25 minutes later, and also the time it took me to arrive, I was eating hot, spicy level 2...perfect for me...chicken pad Thai and drinking an iced Thai tea. Not impressed with this place at all. Tuk tuk thai is sooo much better in every way. First of all, don't expect a lot of meat with your meal. Three pieces in each dish? Really? The food was bland and cheap noodles are used. Also, their spice rating is totally off. Be aware that they have a nasty note on their website stating if it's too spicy, no refunds. Just to update my first review, still the best Thai place in all Tucson or Oro Valley, we drive from the Foothills to dine here over and over again! They recently updated the lighting and chairs so now it's charming and comfortable compared to the bight lights they originally had. Food was delicious! Great flavor, nice and light on the salt, and ample protein and veggies. We brought six different dishes and everything was packaged well for the drive home. I've loved everything I've tried here! Most of the time, (when I don't want to consider all the options) I get the green curry with beef. Spice level 1 is perfectly hot for me since I didn't grow up with spicy food. However, spice level 1 is too hot for my toddler (I recommend level 0 for children). I've also tried most of the curries, often times opting for the vegetarian option (mixed vegetables instead of meat), the pad Thai, the eggplant entree, mango chicken, and pineapple fried rice. All were delicious and came in generously sized portions. When I don't feel like cooking, this is in my top list of restaurants to grab a bite from. It always satisfies :) read more

Went for lunch today & ordered sweet & sour pork. The server came back and informed us they were out of sweet & sour sauce. We ordered teryaki pork. It arrived & was pathetic. Some pale, tough pieces of pork, a couple brocolli pieces snd carrot coins sitting in a puddle of thin, bland juice. Mali Thai consistently provides fresh flavorful and healthy food. My go to is Massaman curry. The potatoes, carrots fried tofu and onions are fresh and the sauce is amazing, really. I crave this dish and get it about once a month. Service is fast. Everything I've tried here has been great. I'm a Thai food snob and it's honestly the best around this area. Yum yum. I get medium spice which is perfect. If you ever wanted to try tofu, this is the one I'd recommend trying it on! The pad Thai with tofu is also fantastic. read more

We happened upon MaliThai because La Hacienda was packed . It was uch a pleasant surprise. The red curry with shrimp was delicious ( level 2 spice) and the garlic noodles were also good, my 4 and 6 year olds enjoyed it with shrimp ( no spice ). Great new Thai restaurant in Oro Valley. I would describe the food as what I'd expect when visiting a friend and one of their parents made food from their homeland. Nothing extravagant (at least not that we've seen yet, they opened yesterday) just flavorful dishes in generous portions. We started the the egg rolls which were beautifully golden colored. They arrived quite hot. My wife ordered the Tom Kha. An ideal dish for letting the coconut milk shine with flavors to compliment. I ordered the yellow curry. Both dishes could have been split, so we ended up going home with leftovers, but you won't see me complaining about that! Been awhile since I've written a review. I have a few that I need to catch up on. We've been waiting for these guys, and they finally opened this past week. Like many restaurants in the area, they are short staffed. Only one wait person, plus one young girl bussing, and two people in the kitchen. Service was super slow, but I give all new restaurants some time to get their stride before I criticize. If they had been open for awhile, my rating would be much lower. But I could see that the server was doing her best under the circumstances, and she was hustling. The food though was good. I had Thai iced tea, and we ordered some vegetable rolls. And we both ordered Pad Thai, mine pork and husbands shrimp. We ordered them medium hot/spicy. Wasn't hot, so I'll have to ask for hot next time. I love Thai food and have lived in south east Asia. Mali Thai is a hidden gem in Oro Valley. The taste is genuine Thai cuisine made with fresh from quality ingredients. We have been there twice and both times were amazing! The food is light, fresh and large portions. The green papaya salad is fabulous a must order! Another suggestions is the basil stir-fry. But really you cannot go wrong here. My partner cannot do spice and I'm Thai hot all day and they have been able to accommodate us both. The space is welcoming, spotless, and inviting with nice seating and lighting. The staff make the place! They are so welcoming and hospitable making you feel like you are indeed in SE Asia. Quiet Clean Looks Brand New ~ Small Limited Item menu focus on Curry & Stir-Fry. We had the Red Curry & Massaman Curry both were excellent. Perfect single size servings with a scoop of rice. Attentive Waitstaff overall very Positive. However, this is my rant, and I know it won't be popular, but leave your damn dogs at home. The Waitstaff were very accommodating to one guest who brought their dog, gave it a bowl of water. Patio Seating fine, but inside the restaurant? I don't eat with Animals.
