As a local, I had never had a reason to stay in a nearby hotel, but this looked charming and that was what I needed. Somewhere welcoming and cozy. Well..... it was cozy. Welcoming, not so much. Because I'd booked last minute via a third party, apparently they hadn't yet received my reservation. I walked in the front door, (it was unlocked), and then wandered down a small hallway until I saw a sign for "Reception," (there is no one to greet you as you walk in). The "reception" is tucked away around a corner of the kitchen. So, I wandered in there and was immediately admonished I should not be there, and rather coldly asked if I had a reservation. The woman also commented, more to herself than to me, that the front door should've been locked. Not my fault or problem. ANYway, once she finally did find my reservation, and realize I was there legitimately, she said that the room wasn't ready, (it was 5pm), and she'd have to make it up. That wasn't a problem for me, I waited in the living room area and helped myself to the wine and cheese, which was nice. She also, for the record, brought a small heater to my room when I asked if there was a way to turn down the air-conditioning, (it was centrally controlled, and turned off at sunset, so that was fine.) Also on the plus side, the location is nice, the bed was very comfortable, and hot water very hot, (which I greatly appreciated). But the place is showing its wear. There was a light on one side of the bed, but looked like the one that had been on the other had been removed (see pic). And there were small stains on the wall above the toilet. It could use a refresh, especially for almost $400/night. The breakfast which some rave about, was rather lackluster. All cold -- hard boiled eggs, some granola, fruit, hard bagels. I mean, it's ok, but there was nothing hot, and nothing to write home about. Maybe I hit a day when the cook was off? Finally, this review would've been four stars, but for the fact that when I went to check out I was again treated with the same cold and rather put out attitude(?) I asked if I could please get a copy of my receipt and was told it would be emailed to me later in the afternoon (?) Because I needed to turn this into the mgt company, I really wanted to make sure I got it, so I tried to explain my situation, (again no response to the reason I was there), and she quite reluctantly offered to print it out for me. Truly, there's a weird vibe to this place. Almost like you'd somehow wandered into someone else's home and they're annoyed to have you there. Maybe it was just my odd circumstances that made it so, but if the hot water ever goes out in my apartment again, I won't be returning.

Then we journeyed two and a half hours through excessive weather and traffic to arrive. I was ill from not eating, the stressed of the day, the sadness of our loss of our 4-legged family member and car sickness. We arrived in quite a distressed state and needed sleep. When we arrived, we were greeted by Ele. She got us checked in and prepared a dish of crackers, cucumber and orange to address my car sickness. It worked like a charm. She set mom up with a glass of wine and a dish for the charcuterie table. This woman is an angel. The ambiance of the whole place was quiet and relaxing. Sitting by the fireplace looking out at the rain. I was here on work assignment. But Ele and her crew made it the best stay. The rooms are so that they are welcoming Iike home. Entering the room for the first time, we were welcomed with homemade cookies and very comfortable beds. This place is so close to everything. The beach, restaurants, nightlife and shopping. But tucked away. The beauty of the surroundings. The warmth and welcoming atmosphere. The peaceful music and quietness. The smells of baking and rosemary in the yard. The delicious breakfasts and afternoon wine and charcuterie. Every sense was pleased. The whole experience was fabulous. We were looking for something close to home but still felt like we were on vacation in the Cambria was perfect. We spent the afternoon at the pool and t that was my favorite part. Amazing drinks and poolside service. Also the DJ, MJ ultra, totally killed it. We were sad when his set was over. I would recommend the Cambria to anyone especially for out-of-towners that wanna get a taste of the Malibu/Calabasas lifestyle.

Have dined at Nobu many times over the years, but never considered a stay here until this past weekend...Love! Loved my experience so much, I want more! Terrible experience, and this was before I even arrived…read more For a hotel positioning itself as a luxury property and charging luxury-level rates, the service was shockingly poor. Nearly every interaction made me feel as though the priority was extracting another fee rather than providing hospitality. Everything felt nickel-and-dimed, and simple, reasonable requests were met with arrogance, inflexibility, and an almost adversarial attitude. I was also traveling for a half marathon and asked about having enough time after the race to return, shower, and collect my belongings. Rather than approaching the request with the level of hospitality I would expect from a high-end property, the response became yet another discussion about additional charges. Luxury is not simply an expensive room or a desirable location. It is how guests are treated. At these prices, I expected gracious, accommodating service and a willingness to make the experience feel special. Instead, I encountered arrogance, nickel-and-diming, poor communication, and virtually no sense of hospitality. And remarkably, this was only the booking experience. It was unpleasant enough that it changed how I felt about staying here at all.

The home itself is indescribable; three stories and decorated with crystals, salt lamps, and many colors. They have a small outdoor area in the third floor and it truly doesn't even feel like you're in Los Angeles. The owner, Hedda, is very kind. She has a big heart and warm energy that you'll notice right off the bat. I highly recommend visiting the Treehouse. They hold soundbaths on the full and new moon, along with hosting many other interesting events.

We never needed our car. We parked in the motel lot and stayed for 5 days. We walked everywhere in Manhattan Beach. Motel provided beach chairs, beach towels and even an adorable tote bag. Thats Ivana. You truly are just a bit up the hill from the ocean. It's as close as you'll get for the cost. The rooms are fine. Linens, towels fine. Kitchenette. Bathroom. Water pressure great. Just know that Highland is a very busy traveled street. Could it be spruced up? Sure. But think of it as the charm of being at the beach and the actual salt air. I had to park in the garage even though I was told that I would be provided a parking permit, and I thought everything would be good considering that the options for overnight parking in the area are limited, but ultimately that wasn't the case. I told the front desk about it and while they were sympathetic, nothing was done to rectify the situation. I simply moved the trash lid and fence on my own and carried on with a scratched car. Otherwise, the stay was pleasant enough. The rooftop closes at 10pm. Our room didn't have a window but there was a kitchenette sink and mini fridge available. Basic toiletries were provided including toothbrushes and toothpaste. There is free wifi and there are bikes you can rent. You don't get a key card but rather you are given a code for the room lock.
