We were looking for something close to home but still felt like we were on vacation in the Cambria was perfect. We spent the afternoon at the pool and t that was my favorite part. Nearly every interaction made me feel as though the priority was extracting another fee rather than providing hospitality. Everything felt nickel-and-dimed, and simple, reasonable requests were met with arrogance, inflexibility, and an almost adversarial attitude. I was also traveling for a half marathon and asked about having enough time after the race to return, shower, and collect my belongings. Rather than approaching the request with the level of hospitality I would expect from a high-end property, the response became yet another discussion about additional charges. Luxury is not simply an expensive room or a desirable location. It is how guests are treated. At these prices, I expected gracious, accommodating service and a willingness to make the experience feel special. Instead, I encountered arrogance, nickel-and-diming, poor communication, and virtually no sense of hospitality. And remarkably, this was only the booking experience. It was unpleasant enough that it changed how I felt about staying here at all.

The building is three stories, I believe and each room has balcony access. I got an oceanfront room. The view from the balcony is absolutely stunning! The best part of my stay was the breakfast room service where I got an omelette, potatoes, steel cut oatmeal and fruit juices. I ate outside to the stunning ocean views and crisp sunny beach weather. Each room is very cozy and has an electric fireplace. Since I went at the end of April, I definitely used the fireplace at night. I ordered a large baked chocolate chip cookie à la mode in the evening before bed and ate it in front of the cozy fireplace. Another impressive feature was the heated Toto toilet in the restroom. I'm normally grossed out by hotel toilets but this fancy toilet made the toilet inviting and attractive. The toilet was sensor flush and you could use it as a bidet too I think, though I didn't use it that way. The bed was very comfortable and the shower had many settings that made it feel like a spa shower where the jets were able to hit different parts of your body like a jacuzzi massage feature. The reason I'm giving four stars is for the cleanliness of the restroom. The room was nearly $1000 a night so I expected the whole room, including the restroom to be spotless. However, there was some leftover hair in the sink and shower from the previous occupant. That really grossed me out and affected my general impression of the place. Hopefully they will improve their house keeping maintenance so I can change my rating to five stars. Overall, it was a great staycation however.

We then asked if we could sit in the bar instead, and he immediately said no because they were "too busy" and had a private party. However, there were numerous empty tables throughout the restaurant, making his explanation difficult to understand. Rather than trying to accommodate us or offer an alternative, he was dismissive and made us feel unwelcome. Customer service is everything, especially at a luxury property like the Malibu Beach Inn. If your website advertises a promotion, it should either be honored or removed, and guests should be treated with courtesy and respect. We left feeling frustrated and disappointed and chose to spend our money elsewhere. I hope management addresses both the inaccurate information on their website and the lack of professionalism we experienced. Unfortunately, based on this visit, I cannot recommend the restaurant. It's very disappointing because we have been there many times before the fires and even stayed at the hotel and never were treated this way before.

We explained that we were blocked in and I asked for an explanation for the phones and the lack of working bathroom and the owner explained that it rained last week and they thought it was fixed. That's it. Basically, this is a fine place to stay if everything goes right, but if something goes wrong, don't expect any help from the management of this place. Also don't come here after it rains.
