We never actually ended up meeting Michael in person, as we were a very last minute booking, and over a holiday weekend while Michael was with family. He had some friends staying at his property who hosted us and we had a great experience. Breakfast was delicious, the room was clean, and the communication from Michael and his friends was great. To set expectations, this is not only a designated Bed and Breakfast, but also Michael's full time home and as such looks like a home that is lived in. It felt similar to staying over at a family members house, and we were extremely comfortable and felt welcome. If we are ever in the area again for work or fun I would not hesitate to see if Malibu Bella Vista is available.

We stayed in the room with private bath and very much enjoyed the cozy ambiance and well-appointed bathroom. Michael was a delightful host with a warm sense of humor, and he made a killer breakfast served on china and crystal, which we enjoyed overlooking his dramatic mountain views. If you're dining at Saddle Peak, staying with Michael is a real bonus. Also, Michael has installed locks on each rooms and provides a key, so your belongings are safe while you're out enjoying the area.

She was gracious and arranged for us to pick up the key after hours. We let ourselves in, and then didn't see Gail for the rest of our stay. We weren't able to get the parking pass she promised us, the bed wasn't made, and we couldn't get ahold of her to pay for Saturday night. (We had paid Friday night as a deposit.) But the house was beautiful and the neighborhood is my favorite in LA. We finally let ourselves out on Sunday. We made several attempts at contact to pay for Saturday night with no reply. The thought crossed my mind in frustration, "Did she die or something?!" Curiosity getting the best of me, I searched the obituaries in the LA Times, and sure enough! She died the weekend we were there! I felt terrible for being annoyed at the lapse in customer service - she had a really fair reason for not getting back to us! We were a little weirded out that we spent the weekend sharing space with our deceased innkeeper, but overall, we loved the property and wish we could return. And the Yelpaholic in me went to work, heh heh . . . When looking for a place to crash in LA, one runs into difficulties. You can get good rates, but for motels in dangerous or remote areas. LA is so spread out, you need to figure out what to do and then book a room in that area. As a result, places in demand such as Hollywood can get away with charging a lot. If you're discovering this for yourself and wanting to scream, I recommend Elaine's B&B. It's a historic house in a historic neighborhood, a short walk from the action and a short drive from the 101. It's a clean place overall. The rooms are good sized and have everything you need. Elaine and Avik are personable, and we felt like they welcomed us in as part of the family. It got interesting when Avik the Jew and Ron the Christian got going about the Old Testament! (don't worry, no blood was shed and no feelings were hurt) This neighborhood has parking issues, no problem if you don't mind walking a little; the streets are flat and safe. The prices are on the low end, and you get quite a bit for your money. I don't Yelp just to Yelp or to reach 100 reviews in a year, but I want to do my part to send some more business their way. If you like the bed & breakfast experience, you'll love this one.

It looked perfect due to its saltwater pool and gorgeous photos online. There were so many great reviews...what could go wrong? We booked the guest house as some of the other options that were less pricey did not have pool access according to one of the owners. So we paid the extra couple hundred for the pool. We arrive and all seemed as described in the guest house. Within the first hour my daughter was crawling anround and picked up a cigarette that was on the floor just under the couch. No big deal. We unpack and head to the pool... The pool was green, smelled, and was cloudy (nothing like the photos online). I message right away and get a text back indicating the levels were tested that day and were fine. Hmm. At this point I didn't know what we could do other than make the best of it. We decide to make some food as we were told the kitchenette included a convection oven. Nope nothing but a microwave. So we order take out instead $$. My son wanted to roast marshmallows bc I told him there was a fire pit outdoors. We head over and it's filled with leaves. This was also the case with the outdoor bbq. Not a big deal but we didn't spend the money to clean the amenities, and we were worried about the smoke if we left the leaves. On our last day my son opens a little decorative box in the living room to find a green rotten string cheese yikes! It is important to note the guest house has sliding glass doors at the entrance of the guest house. Directly in front is where guests of the main house will park. Our view was of 5 cars and there was a lot of activity so we had to keep curtains shut the entire time. FYI- There is no sink for washing dishes or baby bottles. We had to make do with the bathroom sink. Once returned I let them know how the stay was and I was told they found out the pool had been clogged and they were out of the country. They offered a discount next time which was appreciated but I honestly feel we should have been compensated. I sent a text and emailed my thoughts but am getting no response. They were quick to respond when it came to booking and taking my 500$ deposit. I'm so bummed about this experience because it is a beautiful place if it were maintained and if the pool were safe to put the kids in. Last photo is of us making the most of it on the rock :)

The ambiance was fantastic, the cocktails were excellent, and the food was truly outstanding. Our experience at dinner prompted our decision to stay in for breakfast and for lunch the following day - and every single dish was stunning. In fact, we even returned, post check-out, for a repeat of the veggie bowl with chicken (a must). The VIEW: imagine twinkling sunshine, a lineup of surfers catching perfect waves, the Malibu pier...all while sipping their signature drink - The Endless Summer. Simply put, heaven. Their tiny gift shop has such a great selection of candles (our favorite), clothing, prints, and essential oils. Sunscreen too, if needed. We went home with 5 candles, 2 sweatshirts and the most adorable print. The complimentary morning coffee and electric car charging were unexpected, delightful touches. After checking out, we were informed of a forgotten item via chat - they even offered to ship it to us, if we weren't able to return in-person. On walking in, a very friendly receptionist offered to take us on a tour that ended at their rooftop bar. The suns warmth and mellow surf music brought me back to the laid back California of the 70s, where you could simply enjoy the vibe and everyone was friendly. Ordered local NA beer and shared a steak taco while enjoying the dead on ocean and pier view. Remarkably, the place was not crowded. Frankly, haven't felt so mellow in years. A wonderful surprise.

What luck, The Linnington Bed and Breakfast suited our needs to a "T" and is about a five minute walk away from the folks. The close proximity really works so they don't have to entertain us the entire visit and everyone maintains their privacy. We have stayed at the Linnington several times now, usually coinciding with the holidays and school breaks when my SIL and the kids come down. Our hosts Barbara and Sheila have always been warm, friendly and accommodating. The small, one room cottage in the back and has all the convenience and the basic comforts of home. It is clean and tidy. It has a private shower bathroom and all the toiletries are available. The towels are soft and plush, the bed linens are high quality. The first few times we stayed, they had a cozy-comfy double-sized bed, a cool wood bench and an armoire that housed a small telly, microwave and small refrigerator. On our last visit, the bed had been replaced with a king size bed, and the wood bench was gone. They also rearranged the furniture around so you can see out the window and door into the backyard from the bed instead of the wall of ivy. Breakfast is served outside on the deck. Sheila takes pride in making breakfast. The cheese blintzes she made for us were divine. Together with fresh orange juice, Peets coffee, organic dairy, yoghurt, fruit, croissants and other pastries, it has all the makings to start off a fine day. Parking in the driveway, wifi available. There is a hot tub although we haven't made use of it yet. We have used the washer/dryer during our longer stays. It is in a safe neighborhood and about a 20 minute walk to the Westfield Century City and the Annenberg Space for Photography. If you want to get away from the hotel scene and hang in a nicely kept home and neighborhood, you would do well to stay here.
