We had brunch which was a great deal! They serve brunch on Saturdays and Sundays! We also added a few things that weren't included in brunch. The food was great, the cauliflower bib lettuce taco was so crispy, it didn't even taste the cauliflower. The Big Sur we split half lettuce half rice, and it was just the right amount of mixture. The open faced quesadilla is basically a pizza, but it was still good, just not what we were expecting. Five stars! Malibu is one of the best spots in Fairfield. The restaurant is very nice looking and everyone there seems to be happy and having a good time. The staff is top notch and upbeat. Food is great, the nachos are probably one of the best things here, and I really love the bowls with the fresh ingredients. The Greek bowl is superb. While visiting friends in Fairfield, we ended up at Malibu for dinner Friday night. We originally tried to go to Sinclair but when they told us the wait was an hour, we walked over to Malibu and got seated immediately. It was a nice night to sit on their patio and they had their outdoor heaters going which made the temperature perfect. Service was a little slow, specifically behind the bar - it took a while for drinks to come out. We started with a large order of guac and chips. 3 of us got margaritas (one strawberry, one spicy). The spicy marg was so so, the strawberry was good; they used fresh muddled strawberries in it. I liked their chips and the guac was a good sized portion. For mains, two of my friends got half & half salad/rice bowls. My boyfriend and I decided to share an order of taquitos and the chorizo & peppers quesadilla. We didn't realize the quesadillas were open faced - it looked like a giant round flat bread pizza. It was very tasty and I folded my slices in half to make it feel like a traditional quesadilla. I've been wanting to try this place since it opened and I'm glad I did. The restaurant's atmosphere is hip and trendy and the service was great. We started with a guacamole appetizer and I was impressed with the portion as well as the taste. The chips were very sturdy - perfect for scooping the guacamole. The tacos we ordered for lunch were the following: pastrami reuben, marinated lamb, and glazed pork belly tacos. The tacos were good, but not great. The flavors were muted, IMO. The happy hour is a good deal for cocktails, the menu could be a little bigger, as in more variety, but it's basically Bartaco but pink and in Fairfield. Super Instagram-able decor and interior. Nice open area and large patio. I recommend tacos, and a side of the street corn. Their quesadillas are served open which to me just looks like a pizza, but my dining partner had one and assured me it was delicious. When we got there, I wasn't pleased with the reception of the young lady who seated us but we had a great waitress who quickly shifted the energy to a more positive one. Crazy day for the family, so just wanted to grab dinner and keep it as simple as possible...for $100+....... 2 tacos, a sur bowl, chorizo fried rice, 2 quesadillas - chips and guac. Bag stapled and out the door. The receipt has everything I ordered stapled on bag. Get home 25 min later - both quesadillas not there. I call the place. How when the place has 4 customers @ 5pm can that first to go order get that messed up? They offer to drive it to me...25 min away. No thanks. I asked for a full refund. I work very close to Malibu Taco and finally got to try it out. They are in downtown Fairfield and very visible. The restaurant is brand spanking new and everything is very clean and nice. I tried the Big Sur bowl and I really liked it. The food was fresh, plentiful and tasty. Other people in our group had some salads and tacos. Everyone loved the food. They have a gorgeous bar area that I'll be sure to visit once its open. Overall a really great addition to Fairfield. PS - They also have plenty of outside seating and they have garage door type of windows that will offer plenty of ventilation for indoor diners as well. read more

Ok so I've gotten delivery from here, but never actually went in. The space is very pretty. The first thing you notice is the bar and the decor of the bottles lined up on the wall. Came here by myself around lunchtime on a weekday, it was pretty busy. I sat at the bar and tried the greek bowl which was really good. I've really only tried the bowls here because this is the perfect option for if I want to eat out, but want something healthy. The portion sizes are really good and filling. Everyone was nice and was checking up on how everything was. I will say I prefer the big sur bowl which is the shrimp mango bowl over the greek bowl. I went on a date here with my 22 year old boyfriend and I am recently 21. They of course asked for ID when we ordered drinks and told us they looked suspicious and asked for another form of identification that had our date of birth, but we each only had credit cards that had our name on it. I asked them to scan and assured them it was real, but they essentially kicked us out for our real IDs being "suspicious". A search on YELP to find a place for lunch led me to the "hot and new" Malibu Taco. I choose to sit outside on a gorgeous, sunny day. I was well greeted and attended to. Love the outdoor furniture and green textured water glasses on the tables. The open garage/patio door allows a great flow from the inside to outside--and vice versa. It has a classy yet casual, relaxed ambiance. I started off with a Malibu Margarita which I thoroughly enjoyed. I chose 3 different tacos to try: the Baja fried fish, pork carnitas, and sliced sirloin steak. I also chose a "something small" spicy cucumber salad. The tacos are on the smaller side, but jammed packed. 3 tacos and the salad were more than enough to fill me up. All were most fresh and delicious, with the Baja fried fish being my favorite so far. The cucumber salad was light and refreshing, a great palate cleanser when going from one taco to the next. A fantastic lunch experience. This place touts It's self as "California taco street food". When they brought out our tacos my wife and I actually looked at each other and laughed. They should name this place "TINY TACOS". They were very small and tasteless. I had the miso black tacos and the Baja fried fish. Bland. There was a bottle of unlabeled hot sauce on the table that is even more strange. Tacos spicy flavor are due to things like onions, garlic, chile powders, herbs, spices specific to this style of food---none of which stand out in the ones we had. very disappointing. A staple for our department on Thursday lunch is to get take out from Malibu Taco. Occasionally we use Uber Eats when it is available for this restaurant (average 50% of the time it is available on Uber Eats), but mostly we drive the short distance. Things to get: 1. Lamb quesadilla. The size of a medium pizza, its quite filling (see pictures). We love the tzatziki and sauteed onions in addition to a fair amount of lamb. 2. Tacos! They are $4 apiece and not very large. They come in a container that holds 3 tacos, which is what most people order. I've tried many of them, but the 2 favorites are the pork chorizo and ahi tuna ponzu. Both come with a lot of meat and are stuffed full despite the soft pink-corn shell being on the smaller side. They do have vegetarian options too (portobello and cauliflower). 3. Duck Fried Rice. An interesting addition to the menu, this is my go-to lunch when I order. I love the taste of the duck, the fried egg, and onions all mashed together and served in a pint-size ice cream container. It is a bit on the expensive side for the amount they give you and what it is ($9.5). 4. Guac. Comes in three flavors, but we only tried the bacon and corn...which was delicious! For what it is, this restaurant is a somewhat eccentric taco restaurant that serves among other things, duck fried rice, plancha seared pork chop, crab cakes, and poke bowls. I've yet to try all the different unusual options, but so far they have all tasted pretty good. read more

Malibu Taco truly captures the spirit of Malibu. The daytime lunch experience is lighthearted, bright and easily an escape from the mundanity of the day. At night, it's fun, lively and energetic. I like the energy it brings, and will keep coming back for both experiences. As a point of reference, I'd rate the food 3.5/5 and the experience is a 4/5. Prior to today, I was on a diet that was somewhat low carb and ordered three tacos in lettuce wraps and ate the guacamole with cucumber rounds. I thought the food was good then. Today, not on a diet, it got better. My friend and I went for lunch around 1 PM today. It wasn't too crowded and the weather was perfect, so they had the large accordion door/window open for that fall breeze. She ordered the "Malibu Marg" and I got the "Gracias Madre" from the mocktail menu and had them add Grey Goose. I had a sip of the margarita, absolutely perfect. The "Gracias Madre" was delicious in taste and display, but still tasted alcohol-less lol. Started with the guacamole and roast pork empanadas. Guacamole is so fresh and so yummy -- 10/10. The empanadas were not my favorite ... it wasn't like a traditional empanada dough or filling. It almost tasted like there was curry in the seasoning, which I wasn't expecting. I wouldn't order again. Entrees were the "Big Sur" and "Nashville Hot Chicken Taco", "Sliced Rib Eye Steak Taco", "Chipotle Chopped Shrimp Taco", and the "Chorizo Fried Rice". My friend's Big Sur looked delicious, it was a massive portion that she took a huge amount home with her. I started with the Chipotle Chopped Shrimp Taco and ended up sending it back, I'm not sure if it was just me today or what, but it tasted so fishy and unappetizing. I replaced it with the Sliced Rib Eye Steak Taco and that was BOMB! The steak was tender, and the whole taco was just flavorful -- 10/10. The Chorizo Fried Rice just left me confused, and I wouldn't order again. It kinda tasted like regular fried rice, but then it had melted cheese in it ... very greasy! Ended on a bang with Nashville Hot Chicken, which I will always love. Check them out for yourself! I'm sure they will not disappoint. read more

The food is actually pretty good and you cannot beat the happy hour deals. At that price, it's well worth going. HOWEVER, the service seems to get worse and worse each time. I know that finding servers in this job market is tough, but if you can't hire enough staff, don't fill every single table to max capacity. Service is painfully slow. We've had to flag down runners and even the manager just to get water or even our check at the end of the meal. My friends and I shared the chicken taquitos and they were so good. The avocado crema really made the taquitos and I could honestly slather that sauce on any dish. We also shared the guacamole which was delicious. I found the tortilla chips to be very hard and thick but they were good. For my main dish I got the Buffalo chicken quesadilla. They spared no expense on the decor of this lovely building. In fact, everything down to the light switch has a Malibu theme. Coming here for brunch, I promise, will take you back to your college days where everyone was out late the night before and is possibly having a rough morning. My food, a salad and rice bowl, came out under 3 minutes from when I ordered it, which seemed way too quick. I ate some of my meal, and got up to use the restroom, but when I returned, my plate was being cleared. In the current environment, I felt uncomfortable with someone touching my plate. For my main course I got the grilled chicken bowl which came with chicken of course I did half brown rice half salad which I felt made it nice and light and not overwhelming with all rice. It also had corn, guacamole, snow peas and sweet potatoes. I chose to add some cotija cheese. Overall I enjoyed the meal. For a drink I had the Malibu passion mocktail , once mixed up it tasted very good, nice and refreshing and a little tart. Way too full at the end so didn't get to try any desserts. Came in for brunch with my family. The overall look and ambience of the place inside is nice. We were seated immediately. Service was a bit slow, I think our server was also making drinks though. We started with chips & guac which was great and the pork empanadas. I had high expectations for the empanadas but was disappointed. It looked great and was fresh when we got it but they use a certain seasoning that I cannot stand the taste of. I think it's anise but not sure, I just personally do not enjoy anything that has that flavor. My cousin also ordered the empanadas though and he liked them. I ordered the avocado toast and my son ordered the pancakes as our meals. The toast was more spicy than I thought it would be so if you don't like spice, don't order or maybe they can make it not spicy?
