Let me just preface that Dr. Lupo is absolutely amazing in all regards. My now 16 year old Chlo developed a collapsed trachea, heart murmur and partial blindness near 3 years ago - unbeknownst to me at the time. Due to her conditions she became very tired and appeared to be suffering and almost made an irrational decision to place her to sleep. I was recommended to take her to MVC and so I took her in for a professional opinion and Dr Lupo SAVED her life! Thanks to him, we gained 3 more years since finding out her medical conditions and our 16 year old chihuahua is still here with us to this day with proper medication to combat and/or make her feel at ease! I wanted to write this review for Dr Lupo the owner of Malibu Vet clinic. I have know Dr Lupo ever since the original owner, Kate sold it to him. Dr. Lupo has been our family vet for five dogs and one cat. Recently our dog Hoss Bear , a Rare breed Caucasian Shepard was having major issues around mobility and walking and I thought I'd have to say goodbye to him after 12 1/2 years of friendship and love. Dr Lupo prescribed Librela and it's been a game changer for Hoss. It's been 30 days and Hoss is able to walk around and do his business. Thanks for Dr. Lupo prescribing this miracle drug. we're hoping to get more time with our beloved hoss bear. As an older dog at 12 1/2 hoss bear has a large cyst on the right side of his neck and I know every day is precious. I wanted to write this review because I know for 15+ years. Dr. Lupo has been there for my family. Our dogs were always treated like family. Dr Lupo has always been professional and very thoughtful and that's why he's the only vet that we use. Dr. Lupo killed my dog!! I came in with my 11 year old Belgian Shephard on May 20th bec of a possible fungal infection. He did X-rays and came back in and said he isn't concerned with the reason i came in for but said his ACLs are almost torn (yet noted in the summary of our visit "minimal finding") and said he is sending the X-rays to a radiologist to examine which will come back next day or two - because he is unable to give definitive answers based on his ability to read X-rays! I also requested a blood test (completed and sent out to a lab that took 3 days to return). Instead of waiting for blood results and xray analysis to come back, Dr Lupo proceeded to say Huck needed the Librela shot for his ambiguous "pain". He told me "Librela is completely safe. There are absolutely no side effects". Huck didn't need this but I was a fool and agreed to do it bec i trusted Dr Lupo - the biggest regret of my life! May 21st / 24hrs after the shot, my dog got pneumonia, incontinence, anorexia, pancreatitis, neurological issues, severe muscle atrophy on all limbs, $13k later completely paralyzed, unable to eat on his own, lost 20 lbs and then died in my arms June 14th!! It was the hardest, most horrible experience of my life. No dog deserves it! *3 days after the injection on May 23rd I finally got a copy of my office visit. I find out Lupo noted on May 20th (without telling me!!) , prior to the Librela shot, that Huck had an enlarged Spleen. He also noted his chest xray had some opacity AND that Huck may have had spondylosis based on thoracic xray. ALL of which any other veterinarian would indicate he is a high risk for a drug (Librela) which suppresses the body's Nerve Growth Factors (essential for the body to function and survive!). Librela is for dogs diagnosed with Osteoarthritis and no underlying health conditions! I spent 3 weeks in this nightmare! Everyday something happened and everyday Huck got skinnier and skinnier, losing all nerve function and mobility in his body until he couldn't go on any longer. This drug lasts 60-90 days and he couldn't make it past 24 days! My happy sweet Huck died in my arms suffering from a drug he never should have been given! **Update: when i asked for a refund Dr. Lupo said he'd only do it if i signed a waiver saying i won't sue him for malpractice AND take this review down. This is a review on Malibu Vet Clinic's recent interaction with me when window shopping for a new vet. I was visiting the area and decided to walk in and ask a few questions. The young lady at the front desk went above and beyond when answering my questions. I found the vaccination fess to be competitively reasonable. The office is located in a professional building with plenty of parking. Very laid back nestled corner on PCH. I am so happy to have a veterinary practice who fair on pricing and a slew of happy fur parents. As soon as my new fur baby is ready, we found a new local vet! Their reputation in the community is such that I will make it a point to schedule my next visit with Dr. Lupo has been highly recommended to me by SEVERAL friends who have been with him for years and trust him with their pets. read more

We are so impressed!! We arrived at 9am when they opened and had No Appointment! I was Refered by my friend Sharon who assured me that Dr Lupo was worth the drive from the valley to Malibu. She was so right! We were signed in right away and although the doc was not in yet we were told we could wait or come back in an hour. We chose to take our dog Cali to Zuma for a walk along the beach and come back. Once we got back to the clinic Doctor Lupo was in and saw us within 20 minutes. The staff made sure we were comfortable while we waited and once the doctor came in he was so gentle with Cali. She was more than happy to go with him. Overall Cali was well taken care of, we were prescribed antibiotics and looks like our girl will be back to normal in a week. So happy. We will be bringing both of our dogs here from now on! My dog was attacked on the beach and although he was not bleeding externally, he was yelping in pain so I wanted to take him to the vet to see what was going on internally. We live an hour away (in the valley), but as we were driving home, we passed Malibu Vet Clinic and impulsively I decided to pull over and see if they could check him out. I'm so glad I did! Dr. Lupo was able to see him immediately and get him x-rayed (turns out he had a fractured rib but not so bad it was puncturing any organs). He was very calm and sympathetic, and the actual clinic looks more like a spa than a medical facility -- both of which helped my own anxiety around medical issues a ton. The front office staff was super nice and friendly, and prices are also VERY reasonable. If we lived closer this would be our new regular vet for sure. read more

I brought my 11 week old puppy here for shots and to be groomed. I spoke to someone on the phone who said that they could give him the shots a week early and they would be able to do the grooming as well. He's a sheepadoodle and I just wanted the hair around his eyes trimmed and the bottom of his paws, as the hair is totally covering the pads of his paws. The person on the phone even checked with the groomers and other staff to make sure this was something they could do. When I picked my pup up, they told me they didn't not cut any hair and could not do his shots early. But they gave him a bath and blow dried his hair. I didn't bring my dog for a bath, I brought him specifically to trim to areas that are in desperate need. If they could not do the shots and the actual groom they should have told me on the phone and at the least when I dropped him off. The worst part is that he is now bruised as well. Since picking him up from his appointment he's been yelping very loudly when picked up. After examining him I found the spot and it's just above his front left left leg, when touched he yelps incredibly loudly. My boyfriend took his dog to Malibu Coast Animal Hosipital for years and says it's amazing. I will be going here and finding another groomer after this awful experience. read more

VETERINARY SERVICES: 5 stars We've seen Dr. Lupo twice now - once, for a bout of pancreatitis and then for a last-minute concern. Dr. Lupo is straight to the point and knowledgeable. And, when my dog came down with a concerning symptom 15 minutes before they closed on a Friday night, Dr. Lupo saw her right away so that we could at least get labs started over the weekend. It turned out to be an expensive false alarm but I appreciated the flexibility nonetheless! GROOMING: 2 stars, if that. I just brought my dog home from a bath and cut and her trimming is REALLY uneven. Granted, it was a bigger job to trim down my 35 lb. Aussie than most cuts they get during the day. Jose was obviously rushed because it took 4 hours to get my dog back instead of the estimated 3. I wouldn't mind the extra time if I hadn't had to spend a half hour fixing the job once we got home. I had to even out half of her belly, both ears, trim her feet, fix her tail, plus make a few trims along her body. I understand missing a spot or two but this was a mess - especially for $75. This business is close to my house so I really wish the grooming services were as good as the vet! I highly recommend Dr. Lupo. But only use the grooming if you need a quick bath or small haircut. For bigger grooming jobs (like a full-body trim) give them a heads up that extra time is needed. read more

Too busy- Very rude staff and Dr. will not call you back. My 10-year-old dog, love of my life, was drinking an excessive amount of water, no other signs of distress - I left 3 messages for him never called me back- I figured a blood test would determine if it's diabetes....So I made an appt and my dog was extremely weak by then- as soon as we got there, the doctor told me that he died. He said I can see him if I want and then he disappeared. Devastated and broken, all I could do is kiss my dog, pay the bill and crawl back to my car- several days later I left him a message to call me so I can find out anything I should have done or anything I need to know about how he died. Never called me back. Called again; The rude staff told me well he has a "list" and that he tries to call people back. 3 weeks later I called back to see if my dogs ashes are ready to be picked up. no response- I finally sent someone to show up at their office and pick up the ashes. To this day, I never got a call back. Other than being told that my dog "bled to death", never got an explanation..... read more

We were traveling with our dog when she came down with a urinary tract (UT) infection. Dr. Lupo took as as a walk in without an emergency charge and treated our dog on a Saturday. The symptoms of the infection had become so severe that it would have been impossible to have her in a motel, much less the plane coming home.
