I had lunch today at Malt 'n Salt Fish and Chips. It's in a little strip mall. I had the haddock lunch special with a side of gravy. The batter was light, which I like, but I found that the fish and fries tasted the same ... like grease. I saw a fella hand cutting fries in the back so I know they are fresh but they didn't takes like potatoes. I ate the fish out of the batter and it didn't have a lot of flavour. I won't be back if I'm in Pickering.

    Fresh fresh fresh!!!!

If you have a craving for fish and chips this is the go-to place. The fish is freshly battered and fried on order. We had the halibut and chips... the flavor and freshness were excellent. The chips are freshly cut and fried on premises. Unbeatable flavor. Give it a try!!!!

I have no words! Hands down one of the best fish and chips spots I have been to!…read more Fish is fresh, never dry. Batter is super crispy never overdone or greasy. Portions are generous and the coleslaw and fries are amazing and complete the fish so well. I can eat just a plateful of their fries. Service is great, all the servers are so incredibly nice and friendly. It is always packed at lunch & dinner. Def a local favourite because everyone there knows each other. We tried the haddock, halibut and breaded shrimp! I wish I could have shared more photos, but when the plates are brought to the table I can't resist digging in right away! The menu options are great where you can get 3 pieces of haddock or halibut with 2 orders of fries. Lots of parking and plenty of seating inside. Takeout orders are 5% off. The menu is great with so many options! We first tried Joy's 6 weeks ago - we have been back almost every week since our first visit. When it's time to pay they give you a scratch card with your receipt - everyone is a winner. To redeem the card, spend $35 on your next visit for the free item. Some of the items you can scratch and win are , haddock & fries, halibut & fries, Joys feast special, large plate of fries. I'm sure there are more as these are just the items we have won. Options for fish and chips are very limited in Markham, so I love the option of visiting Stouffville nearby for Joy's Fish & Chips. Until next time...

Delicious whether you need gluten free or not!…read more We have food sensitivities and need to eat gluten free. Along with GF needs, we have to avoid all corn products, so finding a restaurant option while traveling can be challenging. The best places will talk to you about their ingredients and prep so that you feel comfortable. These guys were amazing! Rouge Kitchen's entire menu is GF and had things I've never seen before like GF poutine and fish & chips! They spent a ton of time with us finding something we could eat, and even adjusted a couple items to remove corn starch! Probably the best meal we had while in Toronto for 4 days! Highly recommended!

Fish Friday!!! Finally got a picture to post for this wonderful business!…read more To end the week off, we ordered fish and chips from Rouge Kitchen. They use haddock and the batter is the crunchy and fluffy kind. The chips are also delicious fresh out of the fryer. We ordered 2 pcs of fish which came to just over $20. The beautifully battered fish and freshly cut chips are served with a small side of coleslaw (not the creamy kind) and a store made tartar sauce. Their tartar sauce is quite possibly my most favorite tartar sauce in the entire galaxy! The owner is always generous enough to pack an extra container at no extra charge when I tell her how much i love her tartar sauce. Since we're still under the pandemic restriction, you have to call your order in and you'll be given a time slot for pick up. If you're in the mood for fish and chips (only served on fridays), be sure to call in your order early as they do sell out fast!

The cod fish was a decent size portion. It came with a heap of coleslaw and freshly cut fries which were served steaming hot out of the kitchen. Talk about freshness! Each table had a bottle of ketchup and a bottle of tartar sauce which was convenient for diners. Very clean and tidy inside. Service was prompt, personable and efficient. Check back for their special offers which are advertised on their window posters.

Tip: The halibut is exceptionally tasty…read more I like visiting this part of Pickering. There are a ton of businesses to explore. I visited Food Basics, Home Depot, and this Halibut House Fish and Chips for the first time in one visit. After shopping at the first two businesses, I was ready for a late lunch. I looked at this eatery, and felt that fish and chips were perfect. I drove over to this eatery. I backed into a spot and walked in. I got Sophia welcoming me, who ultimately was my server. She asked if I was here to pick up an order. Nope, I wanted to dine in. She said that I could sit anywhere. I chose a booth with a window view. It was comfortable. I got a menu. I looked at it. Halibut is my favourite fish. I normally do onion rings as the side. I saw sweet potato fries and went it them. My order: - Diet Pepsi (3) - Halibut and sweet potato fries Sadly, this place doesn't have fountain drinks. I was thirsty, which accounted for the first can of Diet Pepsi. My meal was generous in size, which required two more cans to wash everything down. I like that this place has both Coke and Pepsi products. It was also great to get a cup with ice in it. I liked the squeeze bottles containing ketchup and tartar sauce. They were easy to use without shaking a classic ketchup bottle to try and get the ketchup to flow. No mess. Great! I should invest in squeeze bottles at home. I loved my meal. The halibut was crispy and flaky. Delicious! It was my first time having sweet potato fries at any Halibut Fish and Chips eatery. They were excellent. I'd get them again. Coleslaw was a part of my meal. I loved it so much. It was fresh and had the perfect crunch. I polished it off first. I liked dining here. It's much nicer than the one in Markham. This location is definitely newer. I paid with a credit card. I tipped and tapped. Done! I used the washroom before I left. It was clean. No issues. I look forward to returning for more good eats when I'm in the area. (264)

The "King" cod 2 pieces and chips meal was edible but greasy and very bland almost want to say it…read morewas frozen food quality because the pieces of fish were triangle shaped .The coleslaw was also very bland and store purchased without a doubt . The fries also definitely had a store bought quality to them like of frozen bagged fries. The service was pretty disappointing as it took a good four minutes until someone finally noticed us waiting to be attended to and there was literally no one else at the restaurant. Also, our orders were incorrect, we wanted the two piece dish with chips and he brought a single piece of fish meal. Also though the food came very quickly it was another sign we believe the food is not made in house. Ambiance felt like a high school cafeteria or an extremely casual restaurant. There was no music playing in the background and all we heard the entire time was the order taker/server was speaking loudly in Chinese to the person cooking the food. Sadly this place doesn't deserve a very high rating. It is barely a passing grade and don't think we will eat at said restaurant again.

Having tried fish and chips in England, i'm someone who enjoys a crispier, oily, battered fish. While the portion for the fish was large, I just didn't find it to my liking. For the dishes my table got with chips, I think they were pretty adequate. However, for the onion rings, I am not too sure if the portion of the side was in tune with how much extra was paid for it. They have a large menu in comparison to other fish and chip spots but their haddock, like mentioned, was merely adequate. Perhaps I went on a really busy day but it was hard to get service, they were very hospitable, but check-ins were few and far between.

You go girls I love it. Came here for dinner and had a hard time choosing what to order as there are so many good options on the menu. Really wanted the calamari & shrimp appetizer but opted in for the shrimp bucket and the fish and chips. I also got a coconut mango drink which was super refreshing and delicious. I thought the fish tacos had a kick of spice added but they were still good. The fries were crispy, which I loved but the highlight for me has to be the shrimp. I loveeeeed the sea salt sauce. Though I usually don't like corn, I loved this one and enjoyed the meal. Would come back here for more for sure!

They double has a cafe. I love the decor! Very open, spacious, dark in a nice way, with a gorgeous sign at the back center wall. Staff are friendly and quick to check on you. The food was ok! I wouldn't say it was my favorite, and I wasn't quite blown away with anything. I would come back for certain things though. Starting off with the salad, the dressing had a texture and taste that I can only tell you was not made fresh in house. It had that sort of translucent quality to it that reminds me of bottled sauce. Portion was good, but I wish they would toss it for you. The bowl is full of salad and they drizzle the dressing on top. It's a thick dressing that's pretty hard to toss in the bowl. It's a minor thing but honestly would be a much better dining experience. Also if they just made their own ceasar dressing. The seafood boil was also meh. I got half pound mussels with Cajun sauce. It comes on a platter with rice, potatoes and corn. I felt that it would be nice if you could pick your own sides, like at other seafood boils. The potatoes had no flavor inside them and the corn was really starchy and rough, with no corn flavor. It was a bit off putting. The sauce was ok, but I think they use too much seasoning powder, or over cooked the garlic because it was leaving a bitter flavor behind. I didn't love it by the third bite. The fish and chips were probably the best of what we ordered. It's the Costco fries texture which I love!!! Plus the fish is cooked well. The batter is very light and crispy. Total perfection! So yeh!! I would highly recommend the fish and chips, but I would probably skip the boil here.
