Although the burger didn't need any condiments, I do wish the patty had a bit of a stronger kalbi flavor. I'd get it again but would probably try other things on the menu before revisiting this. There were plenty of options on the menu. I was considering the bibimbap, the kbbq bowl or some tacos. I decided on two of the tacos because it was a different option than I'm used to being available, because it had Korean flavored proteins. I chose the spicy pork and kalbi. I was given a choice of corn or flour tortillas which I appreciated. The employee was patient with me as I placed my order. It was my first time visiting this establishment so I took my time reading the menu descriptions. She also advised me my order would take about 10 minutes to be ready. I also found that helpful. I was able to find a seat and even check out a couple other stalls. I didn't realize I would pick up my order at the other end of the stall near the meat counters. I actually think my number had been called but I was expecting to retrieve my order from the same counter I ordered from. The tacos were tasty and had a even filling ratio. Each bite was good. I've been searching for a Korean bbq burrito after my favorite one closed down so this place was a must-stop on our day trip to the East Bay. It's located inside of Lake Chabot Public Market to the right of the entrance. They sell branded merch that we were so tempted to buy! They also have a little grocery store section which is perfect if you needed to grab a few things. We ordered the kalbi burrito and bulgogi cheesesteak. She warned us of the wait time before we ordered, which we appreciated. She quoted us 20-25 minutes but it wasn't too long at all! We got our food in about 15 minutes but I appreciated their transparency. Had to take a bite of the French fries first - they tasted like McDonald's! My kalbi burrito was huge, and so good. The ingredients could be spread out a little better, I was eating just plain rice for the first 3 bites. And all of the kimchi was in the very last few bites on the other end. But otherwise the meat was tender, although could've been more of it! I also would've enjoyed some kind of spicy creamy sauce, maybe like a gochujang mayo. The size was plenty and I was able to take home half to eat for another meal. The burrito was closer to a 4 star but my review is going to be a 5 because of my husband's bulgogi cheesesteak. It was also very good size which is good since both were $15 each without any side or drink. The meat was so tender and there was a nice kick to the flavor. The tomato and lettuce were unnecessary since those aren't on cheesesteaks normally but I could eat those peppers all day. They were sweet and not overly spicy. Came to Mama Cho's after a day of fishing at Lake Chabot! Glad to find a place so close since we were starving. This place shares a space with other food stalls in the market. Mama Cho's also has a market where you can buy Korean groceries/drinks. I ordered the bulgogi cheesecake and Kalbi burrito. Not sure if it was because I was super hungry but the cheesecake was fireeee. I loved all the peppers in the sandwiches. The cheese and bulgogi went really well. I wish the bread was toasted though. This is my go to place whenever I'm not sure what I want to eat. When I'm depressed and can't stomach anything, my friends know to get me something here for some food. This restaurant is located in Lake Chabot Public market where there are different food items like Boba, ice cream and ramen too. There's a pretty decent sized parking lot where I've never seen really run out of space. If the front is full, there's another back parking lot with more spaces. You have to order the food first, and then grab food on the other side. Whether you call in, order online or order in person, the people working here are always helpful and a pleasure to talk to. There are a lot of picnic tables to choose from in the market from small tables for 2 to big tables for 12 people. My go to at Mama Cho's is the Kalbi burrito. It's the best remix of a burrito using Korean style marinated meat. I'll grab a picture of it soon. I also love all of the appetizers like the macho fries, highly recommend with pork; or try their sweet potato tots; Their regular garlic fries are worth trying as well. I was feeling like a burger today and I also got me the burrito to go (please don't judge me). The Kalbi cheeseburger hit the spot with the right amount of onions, pickles and slices of cheese on a Kalbi patty that adds a hint of sweetness to the savory. Yesterday I tried the Bulgogi for the first time and it was a hit. The regurla plate is $17 (1-19-23). The Oakland Kalbi is an additional $3 and the Bulgogi is an extra $2. My husband and I had lunch here this week. We ordered a 10 piece Korean Fried Chicken for $16 that came with steamed rice and daikon and added an order of Garlic fries for $5 to share. I tried the burger this weekend and i was pleasantly surprised at how soft and juicy the meat were and marinaded what seems to the be same marinade in their' Galbi. Mama Cho's has been on my must try list for a very long time. Thankfully for food delivery services, I was able to knock it off my list. There were a couple items I wanted to try. Plenty of parking on the private building lot too. Great spot for some delicious bbq inside a super cute market hall! Mama Cho's is a local favorite and this was my first time going after hearing such good things about their food. Came to Lake Chabot Public Market which houses a few food establishments and was drawn to Mama Cho's bbq as it looked like an Asian-fusion establishment. I ordered three items: Kalbi burger, spicy pork KBBQ taco, and a small Korean fried chicken (soy garlic). Out of the three items I ordered, my favorite was the Korean fried chicken (5/5). The chicken (drum and wings) were crunchy, juicy, and flavorful. I wish I ordered the large instead of the small option. The kalbi burger overall was pretty solid (3.5/5). However my least favorite item I ordered was the spicy pork taco (2/5) which was surprising because that is what I was most excited to try since it reminded me of kogi time in Los Angeles. I really enjoy stopping here for quick and tasty bites. The whole building can get pretty busy but Mama Cho's always seems on top of things and gets their food out to you quick! My fav on their menu is the spicy pork burrito and sweet potato tots. I know burritos are pretty common but the tots are awesome! You can't find sweet potato ones anywhere! Another tasty item is the KFC sando -- both the soy garlic and spicy chili are good, but I feel they both could use more sauce. Korean cuisine, with its marinated and grilled meats, bold flavors, and pickled veggies makes for great fusion. However, I enjoy Korean food straight up so I ordered two KBBQ plates by Doordash. Note although Castro Valley and Danville is theoretically 20 mins drive, it could take Doordash up to an hour or more to deliver your food! The food to me, is worth the wait and surprisingly was still warm. I ordered two KBBQ plate lunches and mixed and matched to get the max sampling of meats. Wife enjoyed her lunch but she was hangry and wasn't too enthused about the hour-plus delivery. Both the LA Kalbi and Oakland Kalbi are worth getting. The LA version is the traditional, thin-cut (flanken style) you see at most Korean BBQ. The Oakland version was even better! Imagine a thick bone packed with meat on both sides. Both of the Kalbi's were juicy and full of flavor. The other meats were spicy pork and chicken. Chicken was okay though slightly dry (due to long delivery time?) while spicy pork was thinly-cut and still juicy. They included kimchi, steamed broccoli, and bean sprouts which were excellent. Much better than green salads from most bento boxes. This food spot is inside Lake Chabot Public Market in the Castro Valley. I was excited to come here because I like small little markets with "hidden gems" in them and although I did not know what this place was going to offer I certainly had high hopes because of the other 5 star reviews. Before my review, I just wanted to say there is a big parking lot right next to the market and there is good maintenance of social distancing inside the market with plenty of room inside as well. There is also a nice outdoor seating area. I decided to get Mama Cho's BBQ because they serve really good smelling kbbq foods. They have rice plates, burritos, and other fusion kbbq foods. The burrito I ordered was exceptionally large (not bigger than a Chipotle burrito) and super filling. The only downside of it was that there was barely any meat in it and too much rice. The taste was there but I feel it could've had a little more "umph" and taste more like the kbbq served at all you can eat. A little more concentrated marinade and I feel it would do the trick. That or it can be marinaded a bit longer. It was also a little pricey because I added bulgogi beef to it. I ended up paying around ~$19 for all of my items (the burrito ~$15 and the spicy fish cake ~4) that you get from the fridge inside the market. Overall I give a 4 out of 5 stars because the place is nice inside, the food is good but I was expecting better, and the price is a little high for what I ordered. I've been to Mama Cho's a couple times over the past year as I love Korean food and this is basically the only Korean restaurant in the town. In the past we've ordered the Kalbi burger, the bulgogi cheesesteak, and the bbq bowl. We've also tried their marinated meats to take home and cook ourselves but even those are quite pricey. Unfortunately our most recent visit was so disappointing I don't think we'll be back after this. We stopped by to pick up lunch around 12:30 and we seemed to be the only customer being served.
