Bbq fried rice - what I received

Just received my order from King Kong BBQ, and the food quality is so disappointing. I ordered the BBQ pork fried rice, but the bbq pork is a dark brown color and seems old, and there are absolutely no onions. Please see the images below. One is an image of how the item appeared in the menu where I placed my order, the other is the actual dish upon arrival. We also orders the chicken wings which comes 3 to an order. I was suspect because they were only $3 per order, and my suspicion was on point! The chicken doesn't even taste like chicken. I am not implying that it is something other than chicken, just that the quality is so poor that it should not be consumed. This was a horrible was of $$$. The dishes look NOTHING like the images in the menu. The items in the menu must be from a different restaurant, or a different era at this restaurant.

A hidden gem. Not subpar, not top tier, yet tasty. The veggie egg fu yung, just perfect for me. Vegetables in abundance and not to doughy. The fried fish is meaty, flaky, and moist. I try to get what's fresh. The women have always been friendly to me. The price point is affordable and reasonable. They're probably one of few so offering one or two item combo plates for under $10. The setting is simple. Still looks like Taco Bell. I ordered to go only. They're worth giving a try.

Came back again and ordered their Beef Chow Fun and Honey Walnut Prawns were excellent. Th beef chow fun had that prefect wok burn smokey flavor and the prawns were not too sweet. Also got Beef Stew and Garlic Bok Choy again, both were consistent, same as the last time. They raised their prices a little on the BBQ combo plates. But still great value!!!

King Kong BBQ opens where China Kitchen Express was. Same concept, adding Chinese BBQ items. new ownership. Seating same. Site may have been a Taco Bell awhile ago. Offerings: scoop ready steam table of fried eats, vegetables & Chinese BBQ items. Prompt service upon entering, took a minute to peruse my choices. Bites: chow mein, fried rice + 2 items (8.99) -overfilling with the carbs. Slight leakage from clamshell container. -fried rice slight mushiness with dried semi-hard bbq pork bits. Tasted ok. Not a fav. Had usual seasoning of salt, sugar, and slight msg. -thick chow mein noods tastier with same seasoning. Size inhibited drying. Neither had vegs. Brocculi beef had tenderized beef & fresh, crunchy brocculi florets. Same seasoning profile. Chicken Gailan (Chinese Broculli) had crunchy veggies & tender chicken slices. Same seasoning profile. 3.5 stars Worthy! Deliz. Reasonable pricing. Local owners. Small parking lot. Ample inside seating.

Came across King Kong BBQ on my way home and decided to check it out after seeing some decent Yelp reviews. I'd probably only go here if I were ballin' on a budget - the place wasn't very clean, service was just okay, and while the food was cheap, it wasn't anything special. I had the salt and pepper fish, which was mostly fried breading with little actual fish, and the Szechuan chicken, which wasn't bad but a bit salty. The fried rice was decent, and the portions were generous - $8.99 for two items is hard to beat. I did catch them at the end of the day, so some of the food looked like it had been sitting a while. Overall, solid portions for a low price, but probably a three-star spot at best.

Today was my second time getting food from here. The first time was months ago when they first opened. The food wasn't great back then, but I didn't want to leave a bad review because they were just starting out. I figured I'd give them time to improve. I didn't know they had BBQ and porridge until it popped up on my Yelp feed, so I decided to give it another try. I ordered roast duck and roast pork over white rice, and a porridge with pork and preserved egg. While ordering, I was asked twice if I needed anything else, and I said no, just the porridge I mentioned. They told me it was still being made in the back. I went to the counter to pay, and while I was waiting, I noticed the workers talking amongst themselves and pointing at me. One of the ladies told me I still needed to pay. I told her I already did and was just waiting for my porridge. Then a guy from the kitchen, who had been part of their conversation, came to the front and said I hadn't paid for the porridge because the lady forgot to charge me. I told him I had mentioned it when I first ordered. His response was, "Well you paid and knew how much you paid." His tone was rude and honestly made me feel like I was trying to scam them or get free food, which was not the case at all. I don't usually look at prices, I just order what I'm craving. So for him to suggest I should've known it wasn't charged came off really disrespectful. Also, last time my partner picked up the food, so this was my first time actually going inside. The whole experience just felt off and it left a bad taste in my mouth, and not because of the food. Definitely won't be coming back.

Super cheap pricing, I think it's like $6.99 for 2 items? Didn't realize when I was picking my items that BBQ items (like BBQ pork) are priced more, and is $9.99 for the combo. Wish they mentioned that, even though its on the menu, since it's not super obvious. The food is just okay. Got the lemon chicken which looked great, but was slightly bland and not as lemony as I wanted. I also got the BBQ pork, which was also fine. Not too flavorful but tender enough. The chow mein was also bland and needed some soy sauce to doctor it up. The pricing and customer service are good, but at higher price points, I wouldn't come here. They're a new business, so I'm rooting for them and hope its just them working out the recipes.

Food: 5/5 value Service: 5/5 Ambiance: normal Overall good food good value for a quick Chinese food fix. Not too oily. Good portions. For the combo plate you can do half fried rice and half noodle. my new go-to place to pick up catering for a potluck. They have roast duck and Chinese bbq pork

Stopped by here to pick up a couple lunch plates. 2 item combo with fried rice or chow mien for $8.99. Not too bad of a price. We got fried rice with sweet and sour pork and orange chicken. We also got the chow fun with short ribs and orange chicken. A nice surprise to see short ribs as one of the offerings. The short ribs were surprisingly tasty and tender. The sweet and sour pork was good as well. Good chunks of pork and not all fillers. They have a hand written menu in the back where they do the the 3 dishes for 39.99. Will need to come back and try it. Easy parking, quick service.

Super delicious and affordable! It's really hard to find a restaurant like this nowadays considering the inflation in this economy! I love how the food wasn't oily at all compared to other restaurants but still contain the right amount of flavor. They give out very generous portions!! My food was packed to the top of the box, making it hard to shut. Shoutout to the kind and patient man taking my order!! Will return to try the remaining dishes they have! Definitely give it a try and you won't regret it!!

2-item Combo Plate with Mushroom Chicken and Salt and Pepper Chicken

Yes, King Kong BBQ is an extremely good value, but what I appreciate most is the variety of entrees (at least 15 options for the Combo Plate). Yes, they have the usuals like Broccoli Beef, but they also have more specialty items like Oyster Sauce Pork Chop, and to my delight, Salt and Pepper Fish. Favorite entrees so far are the Salt and Pepper Chicken and the Spicy Chicken, King Kong's take on Orange Chicken but with more tang and notes of hoisin / five spice. The Fried Rice is flavorful with chunks of pork - I prefer it over the Chow Mein. Also, you can add BBQ items to a Combo Plate for an upcharge. One current downside is that depending on timing, some of the less popular items may be lukewarm and have lost their crispiness. For the Chinese BBQ, my favorite so far is the BBQ Pork, which was flavorful and tender with a good fatty-to-lean ratio. The Roasted Pork Belly was juicy and had the classic crispy skin, but I did find it a tad fattier than usual. Same thing goes for the Roasted Duck, which I also thought could use more seasoning. And unlike the Combo Plate, the BBQ Over Rice likely won't last you two meals. All that said, the BBQ's good enough to satisfy a fix!

Spicy chicken, roasted pork, Fried Rice & Chow Mein 2 Items
    Kimberly V.

This place is so good and the portions are huge! And not to mention super affordable... I got two orders of 2 item with half fried rice and noodles and it was $8.99 each. The chicken is cooked perfectly, crispy, not dry, and spicy chicken sauce was great. The roast pork was good too, but I kinda wish I tried the other chicken flavors. It was cool to see short rib as a menu item and the Mongolian beef had a weird color, but still delicious. Fried rice was okay, noodles were good. Service was quick, it was no line at 12pm on a Monday (holiday). It is a cafeteria style so all the food is premade and you choose what you want. It was chill vibes, it's on e.14th by SL high school and there is a parking lot with tons of spots. Inside is clean but the booths look outdated, and would rather get takeout and eat it at home. I eat a lot and couldn't finish my meal bc of the portion size. I will be saving for dinner time. I will be returning since it's right around the corner from where I live. FYI credit/debit minimum is $15

We had a group of friends meeting there at 1 PM to celebrate my husbands birthday. This was everyone's first time trying Fikscue While in line we grabbed some beers and Micheladas at Alameda Brewing. Around this time, a very sweet kind lady (maybe the owner?) came out and thanked the crowd for patiently waiting. I took the opportunity to ask her how long the wait from where we were would be. She estimated around 45 minutes. It turned out to be more around 1.5 hours. But we knew her answer was just an estimate. We ordered everything except drinks on the menu. And a lot of it. The meat was premium, juicy and tender. The smoky flavor really penetrated to the bone. We really enjoy the banana pudding dessert (not pictured). This location is cleverly located in between two breweries which is great because you can grab your food and a beer at either breweries. This bussiness seemed to cultivate community and an overall great spot to gather. The only negative experience our group had was with a couple in line in front of us. We were large group (8 people and 3 kids) and a friend accidently bumped into the couple in front of us twice. We were trying to take a group picture and bumped into the man. This grown man cursed us out calling us "effing idiots" and many other ridiculous names. Look we are all here trying to enjoy a delicious neighborhood mom and pop. Things happen, if you cannot be kind to your neighbor in line, stay home and order delivery. Accidents happen! No one got hurt. Besides that unsavory interaction, this turned out to be a great afternoon for all. We will definitely come back to try the desserts and beef cheeks.

I got the Tom Yum broth, and asked for a side of white rice which is free. The broth was super tart and flavorful, like mama noodles which I love. There were ingredients that you'd typically see at hot pot spots like beef, lamb, spam, tofu for proteins, and spinach, cabbage, corn, etc. for veggies. Lots of noodle options, and the sauce bar, although small, I really enjoyed the sesame sauce, house chili, and the spicy garlic sauce. They even have perfectly medium-cooked fried eggs that I felt went well with the tom yum broth. We were conservative with our ingredients because we didn't want to accidentally have a $40 bowl of soup, but we were under the minimum so we had to add a few more to get it to 0.80 ounces. At that minimum, our bowls were a very reasonable $13. The only con is that it's a bit small inside so I can see it getting annoying on busy weekends especially as people crowd around to choose ingredients. Luckily on a weekday late lunch it was pretty dead. Other small con is water is served in small paper cups so we had to ask for refills often. Small gripe but with spicy soup, water is needed and in large quantities to offset some of the spiciness. Service was amazing, prompt and friendly. Overall, solid spot and glad we got to try it!

Basically, you walk in, grab a bowl, and pick out whatever meats, veggies, noodles, etc. you want. Then you bring it to the counter, they weigh it, and that's how they charge you. I've always been kind of hesitant to try one because I was scared I'd end up with a $20+ bowl by accident. I was excited to see that Master Gua Malatang & BBQ opened up near me, so I finally gave it a shot. They charge $14.99 per pound with a minimum of 0.80 lbs, which honestly isn't bad. I tried to be smart and picked mostly light stuff like spinach, sprouts, and tofu. I avoided heavier stuff like corn on the cob or beef balls. When I went to weigh it, my bowl came out to 0.65 lbs, so I went back and added a little more meat and veggies to hit 0.85. My total came out under $13, which is a great deal for how filling it was. I got the satay broth, which is beef, shrimp, and fish-based with a peanutty flavor. It wasn't fishy at all, which I appreciated. My partner got the tom yum broth and I thought it tasted just like Mama brand instant noodles, in a good way. You also get a side of white rice with your soup, but you have to ask for it. Meat options were beef, lamb, and pork belly. Only downside is that all the meats are kind of fatty. Also, they give you tiny paper water cups. If they're gonna do that, they really need to have a self-serve water station or just give people bigger cups so you don't have to keep asking for refills. The service was great though. The lady working was super friendly and helpful. If you're worried about the price, I recommend just filling your bowl with what you think you'll eat, weighing it, and then adding more if you need to meet the minimum. They also have a sauce bar so you can make your own dipping sauce, but it would be cool if they put out some suggested combos for people who don't know what to mix. Overall, I'll definitely be back. This place is perfect for a quick, comforting meal especially if you're nursing a hangover.

There's usually a pretty good line right by the register, so this place is pretty well known by the Asian locals. Shrimp Wonton Noodle Soup ($16/2*) First outing here I sat for lunch and tried this. Surprisingly disappointing seeing how busy and popular this place is. The wontons were okay, decent flavor with a strong sesame oil presence. But they weren't that plump and luxurious, just seemed like homemade/amateur versions. Which is fine, except given the nicer restaurant feel, I just expected something more elevated. The noodles were fine, super thin egg noodles that had a nice QQ. BUT their broth was so bland and unremarkable that it kinda ruined the whole experience. I couldn't even taste/detect the protein that made up the stock, just tasted like murky liquid to me. And zero condiments on the table, so I just ate the wontons and the plain tasting noodles cuz the broth couldn't offer anything to the noodles. Womp womp. And their bowl of choice is very weird to eat from. Super tall bowl that if you leave a spoon in there it will sink and be submerged for you to fish out...in piping hot liquid. If I would have reviewed this place just on this one visit, then it surely would have been a sub 3* rating. But I knew I couldn't leave my impression with that one lone visit. Roast Duck - Half ($20/4*) Came back for some take-out deli items and I was handsomely rewarded. Total 180 experience from the soup outing. Their ducks here are slightly more expensive than most others for the area. But it is still worth it imo. They cut it with good skill and even for a take-out box they present it nicely, with the shape of duck still somewhat intact. The skin is not crisp at all but it is very well rendered. Some pieces were not that salty at all but some other pieces are well seasoned, which I thought was strange. But overall a very solid roast duck is to be found here. There's also a big scoop of these tiny beans that are slightly sweet almost like baked beans just not as gloopy. But the bean texture is very al dente, almost crunchy, which I found very strange. Macao Roast Pork w/ Rice ($19/4.5*) This is crazy good...I'll even say special. Super seasoned pork belly is roasted til the skin gets crisp...like chicharon status, except it is just a very thin layer of crispness. So the balance between the sturdy crunch and juicy flavorful meat was practically perfect. It is definitely on the salty side, almost the same intenseness as eating Spam with white rice, but white rice offsets those salty components beautifully. And they garnish this massive plate with perfectly blanched gai lan (Chinese Broccoli) and some other pickled greens that add a nice sweet and tangy component. So between the decadent pork, white rice and diverse greens offerings just made this a complete one stop shop that could make a regular out of me. There's also a Share Tea next door so I've got a harmonious tandem going on here. Lucky Ducky Me yassss!

You will love this authentic Chinese place. The food presentation is on par with how it tastes. The…read moredishes are just wonderful and reminded me how they should taste, unlike the other Chinese café nearby. The service is what you'd expect--typical Chinese efficiency, which is no-nonsense, LOL. No chitchat, just serve. Don't expect your food to come faster than the to-go line, FYI. They don't treat in-house customers as a priority. I'll go back to this place whenever I have a chance. Order ahead if you're in a rush--this is not a fast place. But you can always count on their quality.
