We were heading home from the west coast of Florida on route 60. We had already stopped at our favorite place in Lake Wakes on the way there -- and it's closed on Sundays. We were hoping to get a bit farther east before stopping. Route 60 is rather a wasteland for restaurants, however, between Lake Wales and Yeehaw Junction. And the two restaurants that exist are both closed on Sundays. We didn't relish waiting another 30 miles for the fast food at the truck stop in Yeehaw. This restaurant was the furthest east -- it has a Lake Wales address, but it's way outside the city center. And yes, we probably wouldn't have stopped unless we'd seen a yelp review. From the outside it is pretty ramshackle. It's definitely "old Florida" and it's showing it's age. People are friendly, but you'll definitely stick out as an outsider. It's small inside. Just wait for someone to clear a table so you can sit down. I'd had an early breakfast, but was craving a biscuit so I had one with a side of corned beef hash. The hash was well done. It was from a can, but that was fine. I like Mary Kitchen/Hormels. The better choice was my husband's Cuban breakfast sandwich. On crusty Cuban bread were layered eggs, ham, and cheese. It was very good as were the home fried potatoes on the side. Those potatoes were addictive. We were sorry they were out of their strawberry shortcake and a few other desserts still posted from the day before. It probably would have been wonderful. They serve breakfast all day plus diner type lunches. There's indoor seating and a few seats on an attached porch. Prices are very very inexpensive.

OMG, look at those perfect spuds & the big chunks of ham!

A little Yelp birdie told me I could get a great classic American breakfast here. Sooooo I drove over 25 miles each way to give them a try and I'm glad I did. Location- Yes, they have a Lake Wales address and yes, they are on Route 60 but they are way outside the city limits in the middle of nowhere! Atmosphere- Yikes A dirt parking lot and very very rustic on the outside! You would never stop here without a little encouragement from Yelp. There is a quaint covered outside porch with a few tables and about ten tables inside and everything is clean but a little beat up. This is what lots of folks would call old Florida. Customer Service- Two young ladies were doing the team approach. Both had a nice smile for me, and they were efficient. I had no problems at all. Food- A one-page basic menu with breakfast on the front and lunch on the back. Classic American fare with absolutely no surprises. I ordered a Ham & Cheese Omelet with Potatoes and a biscuit and of course coffee. It cost me nine bucks. Take a look at my pic. Those potatoes were amazing and piping hot. I think I moaned with my first bite! The omelet had huge chunks of ham and, as you can see, was plated beautifully. The biscuit was huge and warm but, in the end, just a biscuit. I frowned slightly when I discovered there was no real butter for it, just those tubs of whipped stuff. Would I come here again for breakfast? You bet!

Good food and excellent attentive service. Love the fact that they have an outdoor patio and are dog friendly.

We are regular visitors of this establishment. The service is always amazing. Either breakfast or lunch the food is mouthwatering. The owner is always baking fresh muffins or danishes. Need get their early in the morning, before the morning rush.

Tried this little hidden spot after reading some reviews. Definitely a decent spot to get some good food. We had the Cuban sandwich with fries. It was surprisingly good! Also had the lunch special which was Meatloaf with amazing mashed potatoes & green beans. All delicious Worth going for some good home style food or even breakfast which is served all day.

So we've driven past this place for the past two months, and Yelp said it was closed. But we saw cars and an Open sign. So we decided to stop. It says "Dorothy's" outside but the menus say "Mama D's". The door says their open Saturday and Sunday. The menus say Wednesday to Sunday. The waitress said 7 days. I believe the waitress. The place is open 7am - 2pm, so they're big on breakfast. It is a small and simple restaurant, but nice and clean inside. Half the menu is breakfast and the other lunch. We came for lunch but they serve breakfast until 2pm when they close. My wife ordered French toast and I open a Chicken Pecan Salad and a hot dog. What possessed me to order a chicken pecan salad is beyond me. I just saw it on the menu, and decided I needed to try it. This is the closest restaurant to where I keep my RV, so I'm hoping it's good because this looks like a really good breakfast place. The food is decent. The prices are decent. It's all about context. Given the choices, this place is not half bad. I'm coming back.

Try a second time and the truck was there, but they closed 4 minutes before you got there? or... Finally get there and see so many different things that you want them all and then pick the special b/c come on it's the special!!! We finally got the chance to eat here and maybe the food didn't live up to our excitement or maybe it's just because the food was disappointing!!! They have two sizes Teenie and Jumbo When you realize the Jumbo is a Teenie, to a food connoisseur or when you realize your paying $7-$9+ for a hot dog that is a cheap charlie $2 pack of 8 dogs, it's very disappointing. Does it fill you up at least you ask, not by any means we had to go out and eat after spending $48 on 4 hotdogs and 1 pretzel. Nevermind the $23 for drinks from the brewery, only 1 being a wine, please see review of Grove Roots brewing on my page. $71 for 4 hot dogs a pretzel and 5 drinks is definitely not value for our money!!! You know I'm always looking out for our Famiglia's!!! My little one, who loves hot dogs, didn't even want one because she didn't like the options and them she saw her go to, a pretzel, when she is unsure of what she wanted!!! My eldest who is a hot dog fiend, was not too happy with their Virginian, no relish, it was cold and of course not Jumbo, I mean filling!!! The pretzel was honestly the best part of the meal, we all enjoyed a bite size piece trade deal with the pretzel princess!!! The Irish special dog had corned beef and other stuff, check the menu not worth writing it all as it was not very good. The corned beef was cold, there was very little even on it and it looked like the meat was turning, I pulled it off the hot dog and ate the rest, What a 9$ Special!!! The boy got the coney dog and said it was lackluster, the chili was cold. Mom got the Virginian with the relish and was not impressed either! This truck would be much better if they got bigger dogs and had better quality HOT ingredient add-ons for their dogs. All I can say is we will not be getting chubby from Chubby Wubby's again, unfortunately when we go to a hot dog food truck that hot dog better look like a sausage and be full of fresh & hot toppings, that's when a Hot Dog is SPECIAL!!! Maybe it was an off day, but it definitely was not as good as the other reviews stated and definitely not worth the price for a family of 5 that has to go get Wendy's after words, just to have full kids!!! This is a good truck for the bar crowd, but I would go somewhere else if you are trying to have a Family filling meal!!!

He cooks his slices all his own beef rather than using a bagged product like many of the local places that serve Chicago style. You can taste the difference. The fries are all fresh cut on site, (sadly I can no longer eat root vegetables), but they look promising. He uses real Vienna beef dogs and Polish and has real pizza puffs and sausage or pepperoni. Basically it all sounds good. Being only 2 mi from home for me this is a great addition to the area. I hope he stays. From my first time I ordered an Italian beef dipped with hot giardinara and a Polish sausage Chicago style. It took what felt like less than 5 minutes for my order to be up. We talked a bit and I promise to give an honest review. The beef sandwich when first unwrapped did not appear dipped but it was deceiving. The roles he uses are softer and denser than most Chicago places use, to be fair we are in Florida. There was a lot of giardinara and it did not disappoint. I mean this stuff really brought the heat which was a bit unexpected compared to other local places. The sandwich was well prepared and had a ton of flavor. I will try it again. The Polish while good was nothing for me to write home about. On the plus side it was on a poppy seed bun and tasted good. And the minus side it was one of the smaller Polish and I prefer the bigger ones. Also there was no tomato available, which was no loss for me anymore as I can't have them, and I don't believe there was any celery salt. Next time I will ask just to verify. While not a five-star review, as I judge my actual Chicago quality, it was worth stopping and would be a good place to get a tasty meal for the entire family. Do yourself a favor if you are in the area and give them a try.

When I am nearby and I'm hungry though it's worth stopping to have a bite to eat. I took a friend to an appointment nearby and had time to kill so I came for lunch. The place looks almost exactly the same as it did the first time I came here. They are right near a train stop and there is one accessible space outside the building. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, but it is limited. The menu here has changed a little bit over the years, but they still have all the Chicago favorites that I enjoy. I've never had a problem with anything. I have had to eat here and that does keep me coming back. The people that work here are always friendly and they strive to make sure you get a good meal. And this occasion I wanted something a little different so I ordered a polish sausage Chicago style without tomatoes because I can't have them. The bond did fall apart a bit more than I like, but my meal was excellent. They always have very tasty french fries. I have tried several things over the years and feel confident and recommending their entire menu. And of course, if you are looking for a pizza puff, then this is one of the few places you can find them around the Orlando area. If you're looking for a good Chicago style, hot dog or Polish or any hotdog this is the local stop. They use genuine Vienna, beef products, which always brings the taste of home for me. They make an excellent Italian beef sandwich and have really good giardiniera.

I can't say that I can really distinguish the peppers and cheese in it, but it did have good flavor and was excellent this way. I'm very interested in trying it with different toppings. I believe it would make a really good chili cheese dog. For me the onion rings para well with everything I get from Portillo's. In addition, I also got a slice of their lemon cake which is apparently a summer only item. I love their chocolate cake, but this was a nice change with a really good lemon flavor. I've had it in shakes before, but I don't think I've ever had the cake on its own. I always get good food from Portillo's but I do have a couple of tips on certain items you might order from the menu. First, if you order a gravy bread and you like it, wet throughout than order, it extra dipped with a side of gravy. This way, if they don't open your bread to dip it, you have plenty of gravy to enjoy. Second, I got some advice on their burgers to hopefully make them less greasy. Apparently they are supposed to flip them several times to remove excess grease but you can ask that they flip them 15 to 20 times which may make a difference. I haven't tried this one yet, but I will give it a shot. I still feel that both of these are training issues that need to be worked on internally.
