I've been a guest to two private parties here and have always left way too full and very happy! They really do a great job of hosting big gatherings; ours was about 50 or so people. Both events were served family style, so big plates of food are left for everyone to serve themselves and there is always way too much leftover. This last visit they started us off with really delicious bread, garlic knots and a great salad. Then came the entrees, and I don't think they stopped for a long time... We had penne vodka, eggplant parm, veal marsala, and a chicken dish (maybe piccata?). Everything was wonderful! I think my favorite was the penne vodka. I loved the eggplant parm too, but thought it was just a little too bready. But, the red sauce it is served in was just so wonderful. Beer, wine & dessert was brought in by the family that hosted and set up easily along with back wall where gifts were kept and we were able to serve ourselves throughout the day. The day ended with good coffee. I have to say that they wait staff was incredible! So attentive and friendly, even with a room full of family and children running around. I haven't been just for dinner, but I can vouch for the food for sure. If you are looking for a spot for private parties, my family has used them twice now, so it looks like they are easy to work with and definitely do a wonderful job! read more

I've never had a bad meal here, great service, great food. Complimentary bread and salad with your meal, not many restaurants left that still offer this. And the bread comes out warm, my fav are the garlic knots. Yesterday i had the shrimp parmigiana and my husband had the seafood combo, both dishes were fantastic. I wish I did say something about my dish of the Three Musketeers for my dinner on Sat. Due to the family gathering nature, I did not want to make a scene but I was very disappointed to see the portion of the meal equals to or less than a small appetizer. I was back here last night for the rehearsal dinner that I booked back in August. Everything was wonderful! I called earlier in the day and Melissa had everything set up beautifully. The room was spacious and semi private (if I had 50 ppl it would've been private) and the fireplace and mantle were decorated for autumn/Halloween. My party wasn't rushed, the staff was professional and friendly, we never had to ask for anything, and the food was plentiful and delicious. We even met Mama Lena! Mama Lena's is a family restaurant with decently priced dishes. Friendly staff! Plenty of on site parking. They offer a complimentary glass of wine with dinner. This review is based solely off the pizza. In this area, this is best pizza I've come across. The pies are big and it's only a dollar difference from a small to a large. Perfect portion of cheese to sauce and great taste. It's got the mom and pop shop vibe and the employees here are friendly so I always make sure to tip, even if it's just pickup. Been living in Perth Amboy for over 2 years and every time I drove past by, it was always busy. Whether it was pre-Covid or now, it seems like their regulars did not disappoint them. My boyfriend walked in today for the first time, starving. I asked him to pick up a random pie and he did. In a rush he quickly looked at every Pur that was available and requested the "Margherita" looking pie. Everyone greeted him and said their goodbyes as if he was a regular. He was happy. Once he got home, we devoured this margherita looking pie like there was no tomorrow. What's different was that there was garlic in the sauce. GARLIC! No ones ever put garlic in a margherita pie that I've had before BEST PIE IVE EVER HAD. It's weird that I'm giving 5 stars after eating one pie but just looking at their menu makes me hungry all over again. Mama Lena you will definitely see my family and I again!!! read more

What a great job done by all. I made my husband's 60th birthday on Sunday for 40 people. It was absolutely wonderful. The food was delicious as we knew it would be. The manager Melissa , did a fantastic job from booking our event, to helping arrange every detail. She went way beyond the norm to help The chef well kudos to him. I am an attorney and my husband is a doctor, I disclose this because I want everyone to know that this establishment knows how to treat its clientelle. Literally the worst chicken fettuccini Alfredo I have ever tasted. I should have went to Olive Garden or Dominos, it would have been cheaper and tastier. If you want an Italian meal, this is the place to go. If you want wine, you have to BYOB because they do not sell liquor, but will open your bottle and bring you ice. I have gone here for years and have never gotten anything less than a delicious meal. The only reason I gave a 4 star rating is that their prices went up. Today my parents and I wanted to go to mama Lena's. We love this place and always go. Unfortunately they took away all the tables but one outside. But the one was available, so we sat outside and I asked.for service. According to the server, do not give service outside. I suggest they take away all those tables then. Then the server told me they didn't have enough staff to do the one table. Mind you, they had only 2 tables in the dining room. She was with one other server. On top of it, they were stuffing their faces with food. I dont get It . Put back the tables! And get your servers to serve! read more

Was not expecting much on display, but they had plenty to choose from and nothing looked particularly old like it had been sitting there all day. Actual taste was great! Did 1 ziti, 1 cheesesteak, and 1 white broccoli. Nice crust, able to hold most of the slices straight- the 1 exception was the cheesesteak, that got a little wet but tasted like a really good cheesesteak. Clams in a tomato sauce appetizer and all 3 items were great. Our waitress was very friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and very attentive. We met Mama Lena and we're very impressed at how hard she was working in the dining room and speaking to guests to ensure everything was great.
