Came for a birthday celebration and the place didn't disappoint. We order part of the happy hours items and entrees. We ordered the chirashi bowl, octopus salad, two hand rolls: spicy tuna and mix sashimi roll. We ordered two more rolls and that definitely hit the spot for two. Place was super clean and lit inside and we chose to sit inside since it was getting chillier outside. Overall the place is amazing and definitely will be back for more

A very nice spot for lunch. my friend and I met and sat outside under an umbrella. I really like the restaurants on Holly St. just a really nice vibe off the main boulevards. We both ordered lunch specials with iced green tea. I think it's from the powdered green tea as it's a bit opaque, nice flavor. I had the tempura and sashimi special for, my friend has salmon. Come hungry as the starters will fill you up! The specials come with salad and miso soup. The tempura was a meal in itself too! The sashimi was my "dessert", I ate it last because, you know, it's cold already! Very generous portions and I admit, I ate it ALL

What a cute restaurant! We walked in around 5:00pm on a Sunday and there were plenty of tables. The waitresses were so nice and helpful. We ordered an SCS roll, 911 roll, spicy tuna crunch roll, love at first bite, and crunch roll, tuna sushi, salmon sushi, albacore sushi, a black garlic tonkotsu ramen, gyozas, and a spicy tuna hand roll. There was a Sunday happy hour deal where some sushi were buy 1 get 1. Some hand rolls and special rolls were discounted. Every single dish was yummy! The ramen soup had so much flavor with the chewy noodles, the gyoza was crunchy on the outside and meaty on the inside, and all the fish from the rolls and sushi tasted fresh. They accept inkind app, which can discount your meal even more. Overall, for the price that we paid, food was delicious and well worth it. Definitely coming back to eat here again.

The moment you walk in, it's giving romantic dinner vibes with someone who actually listens. Each table has its own sleek little lamp, kinda like a modern-day candlelight situation that whispers, "Tell me your secrets." Your vinyl seats in the back need a little refresher but other than that, the dining area looks inviting. Let's talk food. Would I come back? Oh, absolutely YES, even if it means driving 1 hour and 45 minutes like I'm chasing down an ex I should've never let go. Hah! The sushi's fresh, the vibe's intimate, and the whole place feels like it knows how to treat you right. Dear Mama M's Management: IMPORTANT Please don't touch that Happy Hour menu. It's the kind of thoughtful, emotionally available gesture we wish more people made. It's priced like someone who understands that not all of us are dating hedge fund managers. Keep up the good work, keeping it generous. Keeping it real. We'll be back.

Mama M Sushi is such a great little hidden gem in Pasadena. The space itself is pretty small and cozy, but the service is fast and efficient. I definitely recommend making a reservation, but even if you walk in, the line moves fairly quickly since the kitchen is constantly sending food out to tables. We came here for DineLA, and I'm so glad we did--everything was incredibly tasty. The A5 Wagyu Nigiri was hands down my favorite: rich, buttery, and full of flavor. It honestly just needed a tiny touch of salt to be absolutely perfect. The sushi overall was super fresh, flavorful, and clearly high quality--you can really taste how good the fish is. I also loved the vibe of the place. They had a DJ spinning some really good jams, which added to the whole experience and made the ambience feel fun, lively, and welcoming without being overwhelming. Definitely worth checking out, and I'll for sure be back again.

New vibe and still great food! There's now a dj playing jazzy but funky dinner music. My favorite dish was the shitshito peppers roll. It's a main dish but be sure to either get it as an appetizer or include it in your dinner order. The sparking sake is also a must have.

OK, so trip #3 to see Mama M and just like the previous 2 it was pretty epic! Everything from the service, to the giant Sapporo draft, to the food itself is amazing. Pictured below is: The Albacore Blossom is a go to roll that comes with a great presentation and it's as good as it looks - Shrimp tempura, jalapeno and pickled cucumber topped with Albacore served with sweet ponzu sauce (eel & ponzu sauce), chili oil, fried onion and green onion. The Crying Tuna - Shrimp tempura and cucumber, topped with spicy tuna and green onion, served with fire sauce. Just enough of a kick and packed with texture and flavor. Crispy Tuna - Spicy tuna and avocado over the deep fried sushi rice served with eel sauce and chili oil. This is a must. it comes 2pcs and you'll want both, so get an order for each person at your table. The service has always been 5* and the perfect amount of attention, without being overbearing. I also like how they sort of bring out your rolls/sushi in a slow roll so it doesn't all come at once and clutter the table or get warm/cold sitting around. They've got it down. I'd imagine it gets very busy but I've only strolled in about 45 minutes to closing and get right in. Bottom line, it's not the only game in town, but so far it IS the best!

Found this place on the InKind app and this "Cute Devil" roll was probably one of the best sushi rolls I've ever had! All the staff was super friendly and very attentive. Me and wife also tried their black garlic ramen with pork belly and that was also really good. 10/10 highly recommend Mama M Sushi!

This was a great experience. We were able to walk in on a Friday night and were seated right away. The service was great and the servers were so sweet. I got a sake and my husband got a Kirin light bottle. We shared a veggie tempura appetizer. Mostly carrot but one giant broccoli, onion and a couple of green beans. The dipping sauce was excellent. I got the gyudon with a poached egg. So good. Also came with broccoli and carrot so not so meat heavy. My husbands spicy tuna bowl came with salad, soup and edamame. Great deal. Will be back for the delicious food and service!

Due to a credit card benefit, I was able to try out Mama M sushi. There are street parking and a park age garage close by. Surprisingly, they have a happy hour menu for Sunday evening. We wanted 8 pieces of salmon sushi and thought we need to order 4 orders with 2 pieces each. But since it's BOGO free, we only needed 2 orders. The server was nice enough to cancel the extra one. We ordered a variety of rolls and they are delish. We ordered gyoza and edamame for appetizers and they were great. For dessert, we had mochi ice cream, one mango and one green tea. Since plenty of people were here for the happy hour, the servers were quite swamped, but understandable. We will come back for this amazing restaurant!

Dined at Mama M Sushi for the first time and would come back again. I enjoyed the nigiri we ordered and also the crispy rice. I wasn't amazed by the roll we ordered, but it wasn't bad either. I will say it's just because I'm super picky when it comes to sushi! We ordered a couple pieces of Toro, and for the roll we had the Albacore Fever. The Toro was the perfect cut and I liked the fresh wasabi that was put on top. The Albacore Fever roll wasn't anything special to my husband and I, but I did enjoy the sauce it was paired with and that it was wrapped in soy paper. We wanted to order this trio of different Tuna nigiri cuts, but they were out. I asked the waitress for a recommendation and she recommended the Black Snapper - it was sooo good! It had a little sear on it which my husband and I both enjoyed. My only complaint was it was pretty warm inside of the restaurant which makes me kind of weary since they're serving raw fish. The restaurant is small as well so I would recommend coming early or making reservations! The staff were very attentive and kind as well. Will come back again to try other things they have to offer!

Overall, it was a good experience. We ate some tempura shrimp, the sushi lunch special, and my parents had one baby back rib tonkatsu ramen and a sushi lunch. It's a cute, well-lit, and quick place. Overall, the service was great and prompt, attending to all our needs.

I had high hopes for Mamma M Sushi. It had decent ratings and was just around the corner from a meeting so it was the perfect place to grab a quick lunch. We were greeted warmly and shown to a table. The ambiance is nice and the menu is loaded with impressive pictures of their food. We went with two of the lunch specials. Our meal started with a delicious bowl of miso soup. Next uo for me was tempura. It was nicely cooked with a crispy exterior. My only complaint is that the container of dipping sauce was about 1-1/2" across so it was difficult to dip any of the tempura pieces in it. I also had to request a second dipping sauce as there was not enough in the little cup. Our main courses arrived quickly. I was impressed with the plating but not as impressed with the fish. The slices were so thick and many of them were chewy, not the tender, soft, melt in your mouth sashimi I've received elsewhere. I had to leave some partially chewed pieces on my plate. But other than that, we enjoyed our meal and the service was very good. Before we left, I needed to go to the restroom. And that is where things went downhill. I could not believe how disgusting and filthy the bathroom was. The light switch was covered in nasty fingerprints and stains, the top of the urinal had not been cleaned nor had the mirror which had visible stains and splatter marks on it. It made me sick to my stomach and I will not be returning due to the pack of cleanliness in the restrooms. That was a complete turnoff and unacceptable.

I'm very disappointed with the quality here! This restaurant must have ownership turnover. It used to be very good! Now, i can feel they cut corner everywhere. They should use stickier rice to make the roll because we can't even use chopsticks to pick it up! And the salad is so salty! I have empathy for starting up any business, but come on, restaurant business is all about food quality, customer service and consistence in order to survive in tough business. Guys, you can do better! read more

I love coming here for their Happy Hour because they have affordable sushi, beer, and sake that is super tasty. I'm a big fan of the SCS roll. Great spot to satisfy sushi and sake cravings at a decent price. Tommy, Joy, and Yui are the best! Truly feel appreciated when I come here. read more

I came here with my girl two weeks ago and we all ordered 3 rolls to share, it was delicious! However, I was craving sushi last night so decided to get take-out. I was really disappointed. Called, left my order, went to pick up. Problem was I didn't check my food before I paid. First of all 2 rolls came out to $27 WTH?? Really? literally the most expensive sushi I've ever paid for, second, I get home and their the wrong rolls. If it was as delicious as the first visit I would not have minded, but the fish slices were paper thin and the sushi rolls I got instead of what I originally ordered we're NoT as good. I was super disappointed and I honestly won't go back. For $30 after tip these guys should be taking orders correctly and not skimping out on fish. I at least hope to get what I pay for and this did not happen in this instance. In consistent. read more

Super friendly service, numerous Chef Recommended Rolls mostly consisting of a shrimp tempura base which I like because it's more like a candy roll kind of sushi. So that is what we tried. The chilled sake was inexpensive and light and smooth as advertised on the menu. The prices were reasonable and we got a window table booth we had to squeeze by to get into but was super pleasant in its isolation. The hilariously named Krispy cream roll had avocado, bad sauce and cream cheese with the shrimp tempura and my sister and I both dug it. I also enjoyed the 911 roll with spicy tuna, pepper flakes, cucumber and avocado. She ordered a deep fried roll with jalapeño and that was also good but a little heavy with the other rolls. These rolls will fill you up. We had the spicy edamame the sauce was nice, but the beans were slightly overcooked and a bit too soggy - still good though. The small house salad was fabulous, the greens were super fresh and the ginger dressing perfect. Nice for sushi in El Segundo! read more

Just ate here for the first time this week and I was surprised at how good this place is. The reviews were not great, but it was so close to my place that I had to try it with a friend. I must say that I have eaten at scores of japanese restaurants in my life and this place had by far the most creative roll menu. There were easily 20 different types of rolls that I have never seen before elsewhere. Everyone has the standard dragon roll, rainbow roll, philly roll, etc. All fine and good, but please let's have some originality, there are so many combinations to be created. The chef here did just that. I personally like crab, shrimp tempura, tuna, salmon, albacore, eel, and avocado in my rolls and they had every possible combination of these put together in several different rolls. I am definitely going back to try more of the rolls. My friend go one of the appetizers, tuna chunks in a lettuce wrap or something, total waste of money. If you are here, get a roll. Please don't get the spicy tuna roll, try something different and awesome like the New York, New York. This place was pretty empty so no need to stress about seating. read more

Pros: 3 stars mostly for the service (quick and friendly), free edamame deal with Yelp check in Cons: small portions and nothing to rave about specialty sushi rolls, free 90 min parking in parking structures I wanted to take my mother out for a mother's day lunch (the day before mother's day) to a place called Bad Sushi. I may or may not have made a bad decision. While the establishment deserved 3 stars for the quick and polite service, the food was really nothing to rave about. There were 6 of us at the table and we ordered regular sushi rolls (crab roll, scallop roll, spicy tuna roll, eel roll) and a couple of the specialty rolls, and yellowtail sashimi. The portions were a bit small than what I'm used to and the quality of the food was just ok. Seeing that the crab roll was poorly made with imitation crab meat was disappointing. The scallops in the scallop rolls tasted strange to me, maybe like they were preserved a bit? The specialty rolls were nothing to rave about and we probably would try other sushi establishments in Pasadena before coming back here. Sad to say, I think my parents enjoyed the complimentary ginger more than anything else. read more

Super great spot with awesome lunch specials! $10 for a chrashi bowl! So delicious and fresh as well. If you work in the area it's a great lunch spot. Service was great, their menu has a section for non-rice rolls which are great if you're watching the carbs. I highly recommend this place, just note that they're closed on Mondays and Tuesday's. read more

My friend recently took me here and since then I've been back many times. I've tried all walks of sushi, high-end to hole in the wall joints. BAD sushi has great service, reasonable prices and GOOD, not bad, sushi. Recommend trying: -- Pork Chop (has a unique smokey taste to it) -- C&C roll -- BAD tiger roll -- Love at first bite The garlic edamame is YUM. Unique - give it a try, but don't give a kiss after ;) I'd skip the calamari, people rave about it but I thought it was too breaded and killed my sushi appetite. read more

This place is my absolute favorite sushi place of allllllll time! Their food, especially during happy hour, is really reasonable. Not to mention also super good! My favs: Love at First Bite Roll, SCS Roll, Crispy Tuna, and the Green Mussels. Their service is great and the restaurant is right in the hot spot of Pasadena Old Town so after dinner you can walk around the beautiful city and stop by and get some ice cream! On my trip to LA, I wanted to visit Pasadena and found this gem. The sushi really is very good. Delicious and lots of flavor. Presentation is phenomenal as well. I will definitely recommend this to everyone! I got Love at First Bite and BAD rolls. Both were amazing! read more

I tried a few rolls. My favorite is the albacore and garlic eel roll. My only knock is their happy hour roll selection. Mostly shrimp tempura based rolls. It's a personal preference though, this may be more of a pro for others. read more

the name is pretty accurate. we ordered a couple of the lunch specials. I had two pieces of sushi and a specialty spicy tuna crunch, my friend had the spicy tuna roll and two pieces of sushi along with a green tea. The food came out relatively quickly but the quality was just mediocre. The ingredient didnt taste fresh and the taste was very blah. My friend's green tea reeked like fish and had to be sent back as undrinkable. The server didn't check on us even once after she delivered the food. Maybe in a pinch I would go back, but I am not going to be in any kind of hurry to try this place again. read more

I'm familiar with Pasadena because I work out here, I had a taste for sushi and beer! I yelled and here I am. Happy hour all day, atmosphere is relaxing, restaurant clean, and staff very polite. What a great find for a quick bite for A reasonable price! What we didn't know: they offer a great discount for happy hour. Thought the choices were very good. We ordered: 1. Crunchy roll 2. Salmon roll 3. Tempura shrimp 4. Vegetable roll 5. Small hot sake Totally price with tip, $39.50 Thought the waitress was fabulous, and very sweet! It seems like a family owned operation. All of my stars are for service. It's just so mediocre with the food. Its "sushi" and just inconsistent from piece to piece, roll to roll. Tempura was well fried, but corn flower, and I can't even. If it was cheaper, sure maybe lunch, but there's just soooooo much better for less, and so much way way better for slightly more. It's obvious this is just a quick rebrand of exactly what was here before. Okay alcohal deals? read more

We were just looking for a place to eat on a hot sunny Sunday afternoon. Every place had a long wait list, but not here! When we first walked in the AC was on so we were able to avoid the heat, and the waiters were very friendly and welcoming! They helped us understand the menu clearly and it was perfect because they were still doing the lunch special!! This place was amazing, contrary to the acronym name. My friend and I wanted to try a new sushi spot, and I'm so happy we found this place. The sushi was delicious and their service was amazing. We had the hardest time making up our mind on what rolls to order. The menu has pictures of all the rolls, making it extremely difficult to pick, cause they all look so good. Love this place. My favorites are the Green Wave Roll and Love at First Bite! Although it's located in old town Pasadena; it is removed enough that we are always able to find close parking. Sushi is always fresh, service is friendly, and the prices are reasonable. read more

Very unique tasty rolls. The pork chop has a great smoky flavor. The garlic roll has a delicious garlic topping. All of the fish was super fresh. My only complaint was the use of artificial crab salad in the majority of their rolls. I don't eat fake seafood so this rubs me wrong. read more

Aside from it being 85 degrees, and getting slow service from the waitress considering there was one other table, the food was good, but not great. There is an abundance of different menu items to slow your decision making process that is for sure. Nothing that we ordered was undesirable, yet nothing was so good that it was scarfed up right away. This is definitely a more americanized version of sushi, but sometimes that is what you are looking for. I should have paid more attention to the name BAD before I drove all the way there. The place it's REALLY BAD, bad service, bad prices, bad location, no parking only if you are lucky you can find one street meter space, small place and all the tables are so close that you cannot have a private conversation, THEY CHARGE FOR GINGER this is super bad and also super cheap. I am allergic to shrimp and crab and they did not want to make any substitutions due to my allergy. As soon as I ordered the lobster ball he let the chef know so he could start on my order, as follows: Bacon Avocado ball Baked Lobster shrimp hand roll Yellowtail sashimi Salmon yuzu hand roll I sat down at one of the tables as others lined up to put in their orders. I could tell from the orders that there were some people that were regular customers as well as some new clients standing in line.
