Stopped by on a hot day to kill an hour. The ube ice cream was fantastic; lots of versions I've tried use just the artificial flavoring but this had real flecks of purple yam inside. Not much in terms of decoration, but it is spacious and comfortable. The Fish Cakes were not loaded with fillers and were quite flavorful. Yum Woon Sen is a winner, especially if you like glass noodles, but you need to have high tolerance. I bit into some chili, and it took a while for me to recover, but great flavor. The Khao Soi with vegetables was generously portioned. You get a lot of different veggies including cabbage, bok choy & broccoli. Mom had Khao Soi with tofu. They offered fried tofu (not the soft kind) which was a bit tough according to her, a wonderful dish nevertheless. Service was attentive and friendly. We were offered complimentary pudding in 3 different flavors, coconut, mango and chocolate. They were all good, but my favorite was mango. I'm glad the owner opened up a second location, and it's in Pasadena. I love that many of the entrees can be customized to be vegan-friendly for my husband, and how tasty the food is, just like their Monrovia location. The space they took over from another Thai restaurant feels really dated, and it appeared that there was only one server assisting all customers on a Saturday afternoon during our visit. Also, they are not carrying the same menu items that are offered at the Monrovia location, such as the Thai Boat Noodles. Nevertheless, I am glad there's another great Thai restaurant nearby. read more

If there was a zero star, that's what I would have rated this place in Pasadena. The food was awful. I don't understand how this place has earned the ratings it shows, probably their own ratings of themselves. Food was not only bland and tasteless, the prices made it even worse. And to top it all, they required an 18% service charge. Just ridiculous! Bill was $200+, including the 18% service charge. Don't waste your money; just go to a fast food place and you're sure not to get upset about it. First time coming to Thai Thyme. Heard good things online and wanted to check it out in person. They have a Monrovia location but just opened this location in Pasadena. Got their papaya salad with shrimp medium spicy. Just the perfect amount of spice and refreshing. Shrimp was cooked perfectly. Their grilled shrimp with garlic pepper sauce is a must get. They need to work on consistency. We ordered 2 iced teas, a spicy beef salad, 1 small vegetable soup, and 1appetizer fried herb chicken bites with 1 small side rice for $70. Very delicious food; Tried the Noodle Soup with Coconut Curry, it's amazing, has strong coconut flavor and sweet to the right extent, asked mild spicy and it's indeed mild, unlike the usual case where it's not spicy or too spicy. Even though it was a lunch prime time, food came out so quickly and server lady was so nice. We got chicken Khao Soi, Pad See Ew, and Chicken Satay. Although the taste was good, it was not as visually appealing as what I saw. The papaya salad could have probably used a little more dried shrimp and lime. The vegetable dish was somewhat average. We ordered the Tom Yum Soup with Shrimp and the Basil Eggplant with Beef, but both dishes had significant execution issues. First, the Tom Yum soup was incredibly salty--to the point where it was actually inedible. We love the bright, sour, and spicy notes this soup usually offers, but the salt completely overwhelmed everything else. Secondly, the Basil Eggplant with Beef was very disappointing. The dish was swimming in oil and lacked any real flavor or seasoning. It felt like it needed a fresh approach or a different technique to bring out the aromatics of the basil and the richness of the beef without it being so greasy. We really wanted to love this meal, but it feels like the kitchen might need to revisit their recipes or focus more on flavor balance. Found this place by sheer luck after a long day of running errands, and it felt like we had found an oasis. We had our husky with us, which limited where we could all be together from the get go and enjoy down time. We were immediately greeted by the owner in their beautiful back patio, where his staff was speedy and super accommodating.
