Easily some of the best pizza we've had yet in Pittsburgh. I'm not a big meat eater, but we just had to try the meatball pizza. It was EXCELLENT. Thin-ish, crispy crust with torn up pieces of meatball scattered generously over the pie which was dotted (with a piping bag??) beautifully with lots of ricotta. Their provolone mozz mix is perfect. Wow. Truly good. Our grand kids got a cheese pie and the 5-year old smacked his lips and announced (which never happens), "This is good pizza!" Our only meh was the garden salad. Iceberg lettuce ‍- 'nuff said. Eesh. The service is excellent - promptly answering the phone with such a friendly manner - even though they are hoppin busy. The takeout-only (or delivery) place isn't much to look at inside - but who cares! It's all about a big kitchen slinging out fantastic pizza. Can't wait to go back. read more

They're actually part of Mama's meatball pizzeria, but has a whole separate wing dedicated to ice cream. I appreciate that they took their time to put together my sundae for me. I got the strawberry shortcake sundae, and it was quite yummy. They had a layer of white cake on the bottom. It was a bit spongy for my taste, but everything else tasted so good! You can tell people that come here are regulars. There were a few tables outside. The staff even checked on us while we ate to make sure everything was satisfactory. My friend got the hot fudge brownie sundae but substituted the hot fudge with peanut butter drizzle. It looked really good! I will definitely come back and try that next time. read more

The food was really tasty and the portions were quite large. Good size menu with quality options. The food is a little on the expensive side, though, especially when compared to other local options. I tried their plain cheese calzone and chocolate mousse cake. One thing I really appreciate is that they allow you to add on dessert (which changes from day to day) to a delivery order over the phone. The process was pretty smooth and the employees were quite friendly. My calzone was almost $17. This is more than most other places I visit, and a significant amount more than Shelly Pie (you can get a massive Shellzone and a dessert for the price of just a calzone at Mama Meatball's). Other than that, it was a great calzone. There was plenty of cheese, both ricotta and provolone (not sure if they used mozzarella). There wasn't any sauce served on the side or on the inside (I'd have liked a $17 calzone to at least come with sauce, which Shelly's comes with a whole cup full of delicious sauce). The dessert was pretty decent. Again, on the pricier end, but it was homemade and tasty. The chocolate cake was moist and the mousse was flavorful. I just didn't find it amazing. They also have ice cream and brownies. All in all, the food is tasty. But, ultimately (and even though portions are large) the price is just a bit too high. Shelly's makes similar food at much cheaper prices, and probably bigger portions. Still good calzone and dessert, though. read more

I ordered a traditional pizza with hot sausage and banana peppers and it was fantastic. The order was placed by phone as a delivery and was received within about 25 minutes on a very cold 12 degree day. The driver and person taking the order were both very nice and appreciative of supporting the small business. Although this was the only item I tried, coworkers have had others and all of them said their food was great. Driven by this numerous time and realized it was there for the 1st time ever. Placed an order and was a super sort wait time to get the food. Ordered a standard pep pizza and the garlic knots. I loved both of these while my fiancé said the sauce was too sweet. I didn't feel that at all. The knots were very moist and not hard. I prefer that! She did not feel that way. Ordered the spaghetti and meatballs, and the stuffed shell dinners. These came with salads and garlic knots The Spaghetti and meatballs enormous. Easily enough for 2. Well cooked and flavorfu. Maybe need a little more sauce. But very good The Stuffed shells were delicious and enormous portions. 4 huge shells the filling was perfectly seasoned great sauce and cheese on top. I did order an extra meatball for this which at first they forgot, but when I called they were very nice and delivered it quickly so I am more than happy with their heading of a mistake. Unbelievably delicious meatballs. Yes, i assumed they'd be good since the restaurant name features the word but the meatballs exceeded my every expectation. I prefer their "meatball casserole." Mouth watering! I have sent two other customers there and both raved about the meatball subs and they each loved the garlic knots too. I've also enjoyed their meat lovers pizza and spaghetti & meatballs. Both are yummy. The only item I didn't care for are their homemade frosted brownies. The layer of frosting is very thick and overwhelms the brownie. I actually felt like I was eating very rich fudge.
