I am happy to say that their food has not changed a bit! They still present you with the most authentic ethnic dishes in Litchfield county, containing only the FRESHEST ingredients. Pretty good pho priced typical to most other restaurants I've been to. The staff is always very friendly and courteous. I've gone here numerous times and it's always a delight. I'm used to having to drive a bit out of my way if I want you have some good pho. When I heard there was finally a pho spot near where I live I just had to give it a try. When we arrived for lunch I noticed 7-8 occupied tables, 1 waitress, and 1 cook. Four or five take-out customers came in and out while we were there. I suspected we would have a long wait but I committed to the experience of this new restaurant no matter how long the wait which turned out to be not that bad. The waitress was friendly and calm under pressure but most importantly the food was great. We ordered Pho Tai and a Vermillion Beef bowl. We were excited when we realized there was a Vietnamese restaurant nearby. We ordered take out of spring rolls, bahn mi Sandwich and a beef pho. The spring rolls didn't taste very fresh- the wrapper was a bit dry and tough. Perhaps they need to improve packaging for take out so they stay fresh. The bahn mi was inedible. The bread was stale. I couldn't even take a bite with my teeth- the bread was so tough. Unfortunately, the filling didn't have much flavor either. The pho was the star of the meal. The broth was very flavorful and plenty of noodles. I'm not sure how often we will return here, but likely will only order the pho. read more

Visited February 6, 2019 for lunch. Do not judge by the outside! Go inside and take a look for yourself! Great food, quick service, reasonable prices and the open beam decor was very cozy. Highly recommend. You won't be disappointed. I will definitely return to try more from the menu. Yes, there's more than soup on the menu. I just started working in Winsted and was excited to see a Vietnamese restaurant as one of my options. In the month I have been here I have attempted to eat lunch there 5 times and have been successful 4 of them. The lunch service is S L O W, so I have made it a point to order ahead as I have to get back to work. Even when I have ordered ahead of my arrival I have still waited close to 15 minutes. Today was frustrating as I scheduled 2 people to meet me there for lunch. When I called at 11:30 am (they open at 11 am) to order our meals for Eating In, I was told that the Cook would not be in for an hour. I don't think that Mama Pho gets it. I'm hoping to update this review int he near future once they get their act together. BTW - The Veggie Noodles and Tofu Spring roll was pretty good read more

When you have the hunkering for Pho , you find Pho! And sometimes you also find a gem in an unexpected place like Winsted... I was very impressed by Mama Pho I did a MYO Pho and ordered some pork steamed buns. Let's just say the portion and quality was awesome . I will definitely head back ! read more

This review is mostly for their bubble tea which I believe is their co-shop called PaPa BoBa two doors down. They served me out of their pho shop due to the power outage from the storm. So this is a twofer review! At first glance it is unassuming from the outside. Just a brick storefront, nothing too spectacular. It is right off the main road that goes through town so there is some street parking available. The decor inside was so cute and fun! I'll admit I wasn't expecting it so when I walked in I was pleasantly surprised! The walls have fun sayings and artwork. Seating and tables are simple and they are adhering to social distancing. The bubble tea menu is pretty decent in size and selection. Slush, milk tea, milkshakes, hot tea, puddings, jellies. I ordered a strawberry slush w/strawberry popping bubbles. It was made with fresh strawberries and ice cold. Just what I needed on this hot day. The food menu for the pho shop looks yummy and I can't wait to come back and try something. Dumplings, rice, a pho burger! And the menu is decorated with cute little Gudetama! The service was very nice. He answered a few questions with a smile and my drink came out quickly. If I could put 0 stars I would. My husband and I got take out the other night. The cucumbers in the salad tasted like CHEMICALS. I ate a few wondering what was wrong and my husband ate one and had to spit it up. My mouth burned!! We called and asked the woman at the front desk to try a cucumber and when she did she immediately said it tasted weird and she was getting a hire up. When she did, the hire up tried to say they tasted fine. We told her they weren't and the other woman had agreed. THE HIRE UP MADE THE WAITRESS LIE TO US. We heard it. My husband hung up. The OWNER called back and tried to say we yelled at the waitress and called her names? And then said he was going to fire the waitress for lying to us???? I have no idea what's going on over there but they have lost my business for good. That was the worst experience ever!!!! I hope that woman doesn't get fired for THEIR responsibility. read more

Lots of fun. Great menu prices; some really solid choices too. Quaint, doesn't really pop when you drive by, but its worth stopping in. My fiancé has wanted to have Vietnamese for quite some time, but the ones we've heard of are over an hour away, so I just opened the maps and typed in Vietnamese. Thank goodness. I came down from Massachusetts just to have lunch here with my 2 kids and we had a great experience. I was jonesing for some pho ever since I heard that this place opened in Winsted so I ordered the Pho Tai, my 12-yr old got the Vermicelli w/Tofu Egg Rolls, and my 4 yr-old just got some white rice. We all enjoyed our meal and were quite satisfied. The best part is tasting food that you didn't get to experience around here before they opened. It is quite nice to be able to have a great, affordable Vietnamese meal "close-by". The last times I had pho, I was in NYC, Hartford, or at my mom's house in CA. Pretty good banh mi (sandwiches). The bread is spot on (crispy but light, with crust that won't cut the roof of your mouth). Only wished there was a bit more cilantro and that the jalapeno was spicier (but that's always a gamble, I know). The shrimp spring rolls were good, too. Well rolled. Wish it had some mint or chinese chives, though. Also had the grilled port vermicelli with spring roll. That was also good. Again, wish it had mint. Maybe they had a tough herb day .... All I can say is, OMG. What an incredible new addition to the cuisine available in Northwestern Connecticut. Having never had Vietnamese food, our curiosity drove us to check out Mama Pho. And the food was extraordinary. We had the A8 Bo Cuon Cu Hanh (spicy onion beef rolls) which were wonderfully delicate and a perfect side and came 6 to the order. We had the A12 Thit Lui (skewers) in chicken and they were the best kabobs we've ever had in a restaurant, and perhaps rivaling my wife's kabobs, and she's an experienced gourmet cook. On another visit we had A4 Cha Gio (egg roll in pork) and they were light and spicy hot, with the wrapping being just so perfect and not laden in grease. We had the G3 Banh Xeo Ga, a Vietnamese chicken crepe, that features a thicker-than-expected crepe stuffed with bean sprouts, onion, and lettuce ... yet you'd never know that this was the stuffing as the ingredients and the perfect crepe combine to deliver an absolutely unique mosaic of flavor. We also had the D1 Com Suon, a BBQ pork chop and rice dish that was absolutely galactic in taste. I was never a fan of pork chops as my mom was a Shake-n-Bake pork chop cook, but I took the plunge and tried it out and I've had it on each of three visits to Mama Pho. The food/ingredients are fresh, nothing is pre-cooked like in many Asian and other shops, and the restaurant and kitchen are immaculate (you can see the kitchen from the booths). Went here when I was in town a month ago. Couldn't wait to get back yesterday. I had pho both times, but different bases. Their broth is traditional: deliciously simple and flavorful. The service is great, a quick place to grab lunch but I would love to enjoy a slow dinner here some night as well. I'll be back next time im in winsted :) read more

My wife and went for lunch on Columbus Day. I ordered the seafood pho. I asked for Extra Cilantros and was told we don't cook with Cilantro but use parley. I said no parsley. Who ever heard pho made with parsley. When it arrived I tried the broth. It had no taste. Tasted like watered down tea. I asked for some fish sauce and first go around not sure what I was given, but then given real fish sauce. I was asked by server how it tasted. I was honest and said this has no taste. Where is the spices and Cilantro because this is not Vietnamese pho. I was told we don't make it that away because people in Winsted don't eat this and it's to spicy. That makes no sense. Either serve authentic pho or call it something else. Stop Americanizing. Be honest with your customers before they ordered. I knew I was in trouble when they had hamburgers on their menu read more

What a pleasant surprise! From the outside, you would never guess how big the restaurant is! The decor is elegant and stylish. I had the vegan summer rolls and the veggie pho. Both were very delicious! The cook made a point of letting me know that the broth was vegetable broth . My friend thoroughly enjoyed her meal as well. She had summer rolls with grilled steak. The cook told us that this was his spin on the dish which is usually made with shrimp or chicken. Excellent experience. If you ask for hot tea you get a pot of aromatic delicious tea and a carafe of water. read more
