I tried the "Salted Caramel" smoothie. This is my first time trying a less fruit forward smoothie and I was pleasantly surprised. It's made with banana, dates, almond butter, salt and cinnamon. You can heavily taste the banana which I'm slowly becoming less picky about. There's bits of dates throughout the smoothie reminiscent of chocolate almost. I would order this again, the smoothies are my preference here than the bowls. The bowls are huge, melt pretty fast and a lot on my stomach so I prefer the smoothies!! Very negative experience here. We came on a Saturday and it was understandably busy, but when we came up to order the music was so loud we had to repeat ourselves several times to communicate our order. The person taking our order couldn't even hear our name and wrote it down wrong. On top of this, the bowl took 20+ minutes to be made, and you are left standing in the middle of their blaring music waiting for them to call your name out for that entire time. Multiple people were missing their name being called out, as well, slowing staff down as they hunt for the people that placed the order. Finally, they've raised prices and now a regular bowl is $12.50, which is very high. We won't be back read more

Wow what a surprising hit at Mamaka. We were craving smoothies and they definitely delivered. The service was friendly, they made great recommendations. I appreciated they had many pre-set combos for people who can't decide. We tried the Babe and it was delicious. The blueberry flavor blended so well with the almond butter. It was just creamy enough but not too thick and best of all, it wasn't too sweet. We finished the whole drink without feeling drowned by sugar. This is a really fun smoothie shop that I'm really glad I tried and will probably go back to. The girlies working there are chill, they have a large menu of smoothies that can be made into bowls, and they also have breakfast tacos and coffee if you're looking for something different. Their prices are very reasonable. However, the bowls are quite literally smoothie bowls, as they have a very liquid consistency and my toppings were sinking into my bowl rather quickly (unlike the more solid base of a traditional acai bowl). I would most likely return specifically for smoothies rather than the bowls. The ingredients for most of these smoothies are typically pretty straightforward, and their relative affordability reflects that. Still, it's a great and down-to-earth spot in the heart of Knox-Henderson (and super close to Solidcore). Note that their indoor seating is limited to a few bar-style seats and it gets very loud from the blenders right in front of you. They have a few tables and chairs outside, though that may not be feasible when it's very cold (but looking forward to it when it's warmer!). read more

Mamaka continues to be my favorite smoothie and acai bowl place. We were so excited when they decided to open up one in Dallas. Everything here is priced extremely reasonably making it great value ($6 smoothies and 9.50 bowls). The bowls are high quality, have a great consistency, and have some of the best granola around. There is a great variety of bowls and smoothies you can pick from and I have liked everyone I have tried. Some of my favorite bowls are the hang over cure and the babe. My favorite smoothies are the pura vida and the ohana. My only con is that the atmosphere isn't as good at this one compared to the Houston one (less seating and not as good of a view). read more

Overall the bowl I got tasted a bit one note and I've had better bowls elsewhere, but I appreciate that they use whole fruits and vegetables. The granola was fine and added texture but flavor wasn't very interesting there either. One piece of advice is don't order the breakfast tacos too far after opening because they just sit in a warming tray and by the time I got mine around 11:30am the egg was super hard and dry/no longer fresh. This is a shop I could see right on the beach in San Diego. Small, collage of surf pictures on the back wall, seashell bordered mirror above the bar, wood wrap around bar and chairs. No other seating besides the wrap around bar as well as a few chairs and tables outside. It has this feel of being sort of run down, but also, with no intentions to change because what they offer is what you get and they know its good so why spend money on a face lift. In fact, they truly don't hide what they sell, everything is out in the open, which I enjoyed. They make everything behind the counter in front of you which means you get to see what they use. They use frozen fruit and silk milk products. ( not the biggest fan of silk, but going to let it slide ) It's funny because seeing them use the frozen fruit and silk milk made me think why cant I just make this at home? In some ways, I could, but I think their menu helps them out just enough where they offer a little bit of variety in each of their smoothies that makes you feel like you couldn't quite make it the same. For example I ordered the classic mamaka which has a bunch of frozen fruit in it and acai so the acai part is something that I wouldn't normally have on hand at home, making it seem worthwhile. Because its all made from frozen fruit, the mamaka bowl I ordered was a little icy, but in my opinion at least you know they use frozen fruit and not something else and again, because they aren't trying to hide anything, it was refreshing to see and taste. Their granola served on top of the acai was quite salty and had a good crunch, which in my opinion, went really well with the acai and there was no raisins or other nuts added to it, simple, good, effective. As for the menu overall, it was rather straightforward. Either acai bowls or smoothies were offered. Suprisingly for an acai/smoothie place not much else is offered besides coffee, so no energy balls here, which seems to be a common item sold in other acai shops, but again I like the simplicity. Pro tip to make the acai more creamy ask them to use almond milk ice cubes they pre freeze, found that out. Giving it a 3.5 if I am being harsh because its nothing crazy, but feeling a 4 / 5 because I just like the no nonsense of it and the transparency of food to plate. read more
