The owner wrote immediately and apologized, then took the time to follow up and let me know that they had identified the problem that led to my bad experience and rectified it. Glad I gave them the second chance. The only reason for not giving 5 stars is the portion size for a $20 sandwich, but so much better than my first experience. I inhaled the entire thing. The mushroom, egg, and cheese is my favorite breakfast sandwich but other menu items are less memorable and a bit overpriced. As a tip, I prefer to swap out challah bread for a toasted bagel so my sandwich is less soggy but you can't really go wrong with their carb choices overall. I make a point to come here everytime I come to Cambridge, it's become my tradition. The food is honestly out of this world and the prices are very affordable. They have the best whitefish I have ever had, the latkes are always crispy, and the matzo ball soup is very comforting. My partner had the corned beef this past visit and said it was just ok, but everything else is a 10/10. The space is gorgeous, bright, and spacious, and the staff are always so friendly. Solid Jewish deli that delivers in all the classic dishes. We stopped by for lunch on a Sunday afternoon and were able to quickly grab a table and quickly get our food. The pastrami egg and cheese breakfast sandwich was tasty. The fluffy bread and fluffy eggs just melt in your mouth and the salty pastrami and cheese were full of flavor. I do wish there was a tad bit more pastrami though. The babka muffin was okay. It was a little too burnt and dried for my liking but the flavors were good. The iced coffee was fine but if you don't want milk make sure you tell them when you order. There are a decent number of tables and counter seats. Authentic Jewish deli food in a spacious spot conveniently located in Cambridge. I came here for lunch with a friend. He got the Rachel, which was delicious and an ample size. I got a special brown butter Rice Krispie treat, which was also very tasty. Picked up some cute swag in their front shopping area to take home. Visited around 3PM on a Saturday afternoon and there were plenty of tables open. It is a cafeteria style set up where you order up front and then bring a number to your table for them to bring you your food. I got the Pastrami Rachel which was okay. The bread was delicious but I found the meat and coleslaw to be on the blander/one note side. The pickle was the real star of the show. We also had an order of the latkes which were delicious. I would highly recommend going for latkes and a pickle. read more

ANNIVERSARY PARTY AT MAMALEHS: A marvelous evening!! We 'closed the restaurant' and had around 60 people for a 50th anniversary party. The venue was perfect! The arrangement of the tables allowed people to sit down and eat and talk; to circulate and meet old friends; to have fun with the PHOTO BOOTH and to be surrounded by incredible food. A meat plate of pastrami, corned beef and tongue - cut unusually thick and so moist it melted in your mouth, An Israeli salad, chopped liver, 'cows' in a blanket and savory rugelach. The desserts were amazing. The ability to roam around, have wonderful servers, rum punch and other drinks made for a wonderful evening. Talk about a good place for a lox bagel! everything here is so good, from the pastrami to the salmon everything is perfection! Their pickles are also out of this world, and the bagels to die for! Stopped in because I needed to go to the restroom, but stayed because of the deliciousness that is Mamaleh's Delicatessen. Seating was pretty open and there was enough space to fit larger groups if needed. The menu was straightforward and they offer non-alcoholic/alcoholic beverages. The service was top notch, and the food ordered came out quickly. I ordered a Rueben and fried potato cakes (idk the actual name for them, but they were amazing). Horrible! Four workers ate my paid for food right in front of my face. The workers stole my food to eat in front of all the customers with their glass windows. I watched them quickly eat the food I ordered, about 10 feet away from my table. They were in confusion. I saw them hand two orders of potstickers to a table close by. My partner noticed this and tried to wave the food runner. The food runner did not see this effort of recognition. The food was taken back to the kitchen. I heard a loud statement of "You get to eat them now." Another immediately said, "I will eat it." They all quickly went to eat the food without even trying to figure out what happened. My partner and I were in disgust of this disrespect. I never had someone eat my food in front of my face like this before. They did not even care. After a few minutes of waiting for someone to exit the back of the house area, we notified a worker of our order. Then, they quickly understood what happened. Another order of the food was made. I went to the cashier desk. I gave them an opportunity to make the situation better. They DID NOT. They blamed their own technology for this failure. The male cashier said this happens often. Imagine seeing your paid for food getting eaten others, taking your time, and causing you stress. I wonder how much food gets eaten due this error. That sounds like a lot of food must get stolen. Mamaleh's is pretty big in size and seating was plentiful. I also liked how they had cups and a water dispenser available by the counter. I ordered a plain bagel with lox cream cheese and had it toasted. The food did not take too long to get ready. The bagel was overly toasted and a bit too hard on the outside. The lox cream cheese was great though. There was a generous amount present, and I found the packaging cute. My friend got the bourbon vanilla milkshake, but I found it overly strong and did not like it too much. Unfortunately, I did not have the stomach capacity to eat more bagels that day. Jewish deli food is my soul food I was so excited to eat there I made a special drive for it. I placed an order for a sandwich part pastrami, corned beef, and tongue a total of 12 ounces of meat. They really tried to change me fifty something dollars for this sandwich alone, not counting the soup and drink i would have had with it, which made the bill around $63. Thats almost double what Katz deli in New York charges. I canceled my order right away after hearing that obscene and ridiculous charge. The manager on duty understood and refunded me without issue. As much as love this style of food I won't tolerate being price gouged like that. read more

You order at the counter and then take your number to whatever table is open, and bus your own table afterwards. The food came out quick. I got the nova lox sandwich ($13.75) on an everything bagel. The cream cheese was thick and filled the bagel hole in the middle! I wouldn't have minded a larger portion of lox but there was enough to get lox in every bite. I was impressed by how much they packed the bagel with everything seasoning. This is a bagel to stay away from if you are on a date and don't want to be caught with seeds in your teeth. I also tried their latkes ($8.50) which were super delicious fresh. The outside was so crispy and crunchy! The inside was perfectly cooked. Came here for brunch on a Saturday and was not disappointed. I got the Nova Lox on an everything bagel and it came with capers, tomatoes, and thinly sliced onions. The lox tasted really good and had just the right amount of saltiness, and the spread and toppings brought it all together. Mamaleh's Delicatessen is an amazing find - among the many excellently prepared items of Jewish cuisine they offer, their "Everything" bagel is one of the best I've ever eaten outside of New York CIty :-) This deli is in Cambridge near MIT (the Massachusetts Institute of Technolgy); the food is uniformly outstanding, and the service is fast. Tip: Outside of New York City, it's tough to find a deli that can do lox, whitefish, potato latkes, bagels, and other traditional Jewish breakfast selections; Mamaleh's does all of the aforementioned (and more) wonderfully. I went here for breakfast recently with two friends.  All of us went away completely satisfied and VERY pleased with the quality of the food and the service. read more

Surprisingly (or maybe not so surprisingly) the best bagel/bagel sandwich I've had on the east coast! Stopped by on a Monday morning for a quick breakfast to-go and am so glad I did. Service was quick and friendly. The store seemed super spacious and a great place to sit down as well. There are cute and quirky souvenirs for sale near the entrance. I got the egg and cheese sandwich on an everything bagel (5/5). The bagel had such a good texture with the crust and chew. The everything seasoning was delicious and added just the right amount of salt to the sandwich. Everything came out piping hot which was very welcomed on a cold winter morning. This place is in frequent rotation for us at work for both breakfast and lunch. Always happy with the breakfast choices. The bagels are great, especially the Ida with cream cheese and raspberry jam. The pastrami and egg sandwich is also a favorite of mine, the challah bread is great. For lunch I've had the two hot dogs, the chicken schnitzel, and most recently the hot pastrami on seeded rye. The flavor was great but the bread was not toasted and was heavy on the fennel seed. The pastrami was also a little bit gristly. It was my my favorite choice I think it could have been better. Ehhh not really my cup of tea. I've had a few sandwiches from here as my coworkers like the place. Most recently, I had the pastrami rachel which comes with coleslaw, swiss cheese, russian dressing and a pickle on the side. The rye bread was toasted to perfection and did not get soggy despite the wet ingredients. The sandwich appeared to be small at first but it was very rich and filling as they do not skimp on toppings here. You can tell they use fresh, quality ingredients. I was pretty much full after eating one half! Even with all these great things about the sandwich, the flavors just did not come together for me. It was a surprisingly bland sandwich to be honest. There was nothing about it that made me want to come back for more. However, I can still recognize that this is a good place with quality food, even if I didn't particularly enjoy it as much as I wish I did. I came back to Mamaleh's for brunch after visiting a bunch of times pre-COVID and for takeout. We ordered at the counter and ate at one of their outdoor tables. Thankfully, the tables were in the shade because it was quite sunny outside. I ordered the L.E.O., which was lox, eggs, and caramelized onion on a challah roll. The onions were delicious, but their strong flavor overpowered the lox a bit. I wish they were more generous with the lox portion. There was also a creamy sauce on the sandwich, which I wish came on the side, because it was a bit too much sauce for my liking. I was actually not too full after eating the sandwich, maybe because the challah roll was so light. My friend got a bagel with lox and seemingly enjoyed it. I will say that the open-face lox sandwich was a bit messy, with the onions and capers falling all over the place.
