Overall, I enjoyed my meal and would definitely come back. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the presentation is excellent. They do get quite busy on weekend mornings, so be prepared to wait for a table. Although they have a no laptop policy, people stay and chat, meaning that tables can be hard to get. We were also disappointed that they were sold out of many of their pastries when we went around 11am on a Saturday. I would recommend the caprese sandwich, which comes with a garlicky tomato sauce, and the breakfast sandwich, which has a sweet tang from its bacon jam. this review is based on the coffee alone and I'm sad to say that I was disappointed. Granted, we did get the seasonal drinks, but it was not pleasing. Wow, the decor in maman is stunning! It was so fun sitting inside and looking at all of the creative elements the interior designers incorporated. This is a walk up, order, and be served- type of restaurant. When I arrived, there was a small wait but the line moved quickly. The guy working the register was funny, and kind. My latte came out in about 5 minutes, with my food quickly behind it (another 10 minutes or so). It kind of looked like a barista attempted latte art on top, but it looked kind of silly. It was tasty, but heavy on milk without much of a punch of espresso. Most of their entrees come with greens tossed in balsamic vinaigrette. I do love that they have this healthier side, relative to most lunch spots. The salad did have a hair too much dressing, so I recommend asking for it on the side. The greens were fresh though, and the dressing was tasty. I got the Katie sandwich, which was large (I could only eat half). There was so much bread that it kind of neutralized what I'm sure were delicious flavors in the sandwich itself, making it pretty bland. It is a toasted sandwich, but wasn't very warm. Would I come here again? Yeah, sure. The ambiance is nice and there are other menu items I would like to try, like the tabouleh (which I regret not getting). read more

Seeing it all over my instragam feed - whether it was the beautiful decor pictures or people swearing by their locations in NYC - I was super excited to try maman, but after two separate visits, they unfortunately fell short of my expectations. First time I went, I was by myself and I had their cappuccino, papa's breakfast bowl, orange blossom latte and a pistachio chocolate croissant. Second time, my mom and I had the mocha, smashed avocado tartine and tartine au salmon. For my solo visit, I was there on a Saturday around 9am and they were starting to get busy, but I was seated immediately. That's when the wait began. I'm not sure if the kitchen stuff was slow or my server, but it took forever to get greeted, get water, cappuccino, my food and my bill. The cappuccino and orange blossom latte I took to go - while not bad - were definitely quite weak tasting. I could barely taste the coffee in them. Also, both drinks were lukewarm by the time I got them. Papa's breakfast bowl wasn't anything special, but I did appreciate that I got half an avocado since so many restaurants nowadays will barely give you a quarter. The pistachio chocolate croissant was pretty good, but again nothing to write home about. It was also one of the smallest croissants I've ever had. On the second visit, my mom and I came around 8am on a Sunday. Same story with the wait. The service was super slow, even though they weren't that busy. My mom's mocha was so so, also lukewarm. Both our toasts were huge disappointments. When I order an avocado toast, I personally expect chunks of avocado - instead, I got what seemed to be boxed avocado paste. The bread was also super hard - hard to bite or cut. The salmon toast was just whatever. Then we wanted to order the chocolate croissant, they were out of it. My mom wanted the lavender hot chocolate, they were out of the lavender syrup or whatnot. She then ordered just the hot chocolate, they were out of the hot chocolate mix. WTH? You're open for breakfast at 8am, we're there a little after 8am and you're out of half of the things we wanted? The decor is very rustic with accents of blue. Simple, but cute enough for pictures. We were served by Diego, who was polite, professional and knowledgeable. Our first time here, we were not sure what our experience would be like. Diego provided us a first rate experience. Coffee (seasonal blend) was smooth, hot and served in a generous sized cup. We ordered the breakfast sandwich (great flavors with the bacon jam and avocado), the Pistachio Croissant, Maman's nutty chocolate chip cookie, and ratatouille hash. All reasonable prices for the quantity and the quality of the dishes. We recommend this place for the atmosphere, the service, and last but not least for the food. Would we come back? Yes! Tucked away in Bethesda Row, you can't go wrong, whether you're from this area or just visiting the area. Bon appetit! PS by the way did we mention the nutty chocolate chip cookie? This is my new favorite work from "home" spot in Bethesda. There is plenty of table space and the decor, vibe, and ambience is just immaculate. It's the perfect blend of chic, rustic, with greenery everywhere! The attention to detail in the decor adds to the overall appeal of why you should go to Maman! The chai latte and the Belgian waffle is soooo good! A definite must try! I think what truly sets Maman apart is their friendly and attentive staff. The service is wonderful and the genuine warmth of the team added a personal touch to my entire experience. I will for sure be hosting events here in the future and will be coming back to work here or just enjoy a coffee with friends! Instead of having a very light and airy pastry exterior, this was denser and less flaky. The inside was stuffed with more almond paste than what I've seen. It even had an extra layer of almond paste on top of the croissant, covered by toasted almonds and powdered sugar. While different, still very yummy and not too sweet . I very much enjoyed the Egg Ratatouille and Quiche I shared with my husband. The problem really was with the service. It was disorganized. We didn't know where to sit. When we did sit, as we were told we needed to do on the weekend, no one took an order. Then they did take one and disappeared, and were replaced by someone else who was confused as well. It was all a but disconcerting. All in all, I would return, even though they don't have the cube croissants I was hoping to try there. It's a satisfying meal in a nice location and, while not quite on the ball, the staff was also not rude at all, and certainly would have not precluded an occasional visit. read more

I love Maman! This was my first time ever visiting a Maman and it's a beautiful inside. I ordered an Iced Honey Lavender Latte with Oat Milk, a chocolate croissant and a Ham & cheese quiche. All were so good! The croissant was super fluffy and immediately could tell it was made not too long before. The quiche was light and fluffy with solid pieces of thick ham. Beautifully decorated, just like a nice, little & cozy cafe in Paris, except that it's located in the heart of Bethesda. This cafe was recommended by a few of my friends in the area. Their menu is limited, but refreshed every week to offer the freshest ingredients. I had their Tartine Au Saumon for breakfast and was so pleasantly delighted! I had the opportunity to meet & greet some of their staff, to include the head chef, Raul and the General Manager, Washington. I couldn't say enough about the warmth and upbeat vibe of the cafe and the employees! I visited the first weekend they opened because I have been eagerly anticipating their addition to the neighborhood offerings. The tea breads are amazing. For a few weeks after, I kept planning to try a cafe item (sandwich or salad), so on June 30 I decided to grab a salad for lunch. Like the commenter above, I also noticed too many flies around the baked goods and an uncaring or willfully oblivious staff behind the counter. That should have been a red flag to turn around, but I decided to order a salad. I think it was the "green goddess"? I ordered it to-go, but it was prepared for dining in, had to be moved to a to-go container, which took several mins. When I get home, there is NO dressing, and the kale and other ingredients weren't in peak condition. Unacceptable for a $15 salad, walking distance to other Bethesda cafes that do better salads for less. The good thing is this cured me of my Maman cravings and I'll save a fortune now. But corporate better get in there and fix it before so many people have a bad experience that this location's reputation will be permanently ruined with the highly selective Bethesda CC clientele. read more

Not many places have cortado and this one is strong and creamy. I got the paloma's quinoa and beet salad, and the portion size was pretty big! I ended up taking half of it home. I am surprised at the number of positive reviews. I'd been wanting to try maman, it looks super cute from the outside and it's Instagram looks great, but we were very disappointed. They were clearly understaffed today, the waitress was very rude, we got the wrong drink, my omelet was very wet, outside seating was either in the sun or around mosquitoes. When we arrived it was very confusing if you were supposed to order from the counter or seat yourself or wait to be seated. No one tried to help us so we finally sat down. It took about 30 minutes for someone to come take our order. Our server was extremely rude. She told us that she would take our order but it wouldn't come out fast. That was fine. I asked for an iced flat white - the menu says you can get any drink iced. She said that wasn't possible, but she made a note to add ice and they made it. My husband ordered a flat white, but they delivered a cappuccino. The omelet I ordered didn't look fully cooked, was very wet and runny with bits of partially cooked egg whites on the inside. It took 30 minutes for our food to come out so we were starving by then so I just ate around the wet bits. We knew the food would take long, that's fine, the waiting half hour to take even our drink order was ridiculous. Our rude server brought the card reader up for us to pay, asked for our credit card, my husband asked how much the bill was, she seemed so annoyed to tell us $39 - quite expensive for the not great food and rude customer service. Just because you are understaffed doesn't mean you need to be rude. We won't be going back, wouldn't recommend, super disappointed. Expected it to be better. read more

That wasn't a reason I took any stars off just mentioning. Ok so I ordered a croissant sandwich but then they no longer could fulfill the order. They claimed they returned it, then I ordered a croissant. The return never happened, 3 months later I happened to check my statement & saw they had instead charged me twice for the same item. I am now finally I'm talks with someone who claims it'll be fixed. This is after contacting the store several times, leaving my number being told a manager will call me back. Which never happened.
