Good and bad: The ratatouille and eggs my husband ordered were very good. My drip coffee was EXTREMELY strong. I had to pour 1/2 out and add maybe 1/3 cup of hot water. I ordered ala cart: 2 eggs over easy (fine) and an order of gluten free bread that was quite tasty. But the bread came with no butter. I requested a small amount of butter and they charged me two dollars for what amounted to a pat of butter! I guess if you want jam/jelly that's extra too. They don't take reservations but it was only a 10min wait to seat 6 people on a Saturday for lunch. Maman breakfast sandwich: a little on the pricy side but I'd definitely recommend paying a little extra to add chicken. The marinated grilled chicken pairs very well with the sweet and savory jam, and the avocado brings everything together. I hope you like runny eggs because as soon as your cut into it, it oozes! Tartine au saumon: I think this meal will give you the most bang for your buck. It comes with a spring mix salad with a vinegrette dressing, 2 pieces of toast with a lemon spread, tons of smoked salmon on top, and pickled onions. I'd definitely get this meal again! Honey lavender latte: I got this drink with oat milk but it was just okay. It was a bit bitter tasting. Drip black coffee: I wasn't a fan of this drink. First of all - the decor both outside and inside is gorgeous!! So aesthetic and floral. I came in the morning to grab coffee and get some work done. It wasn't busy when I arrived which was nice. I tried one of the seasonal drinks - the pumpkin pie latte. I've also heard raving reviews about their chocolate chip cookie so I got one of those too to try. I've been on the hunt for the best chocolate chip cookie and Maman has been on several lists. To be honest I wasn't a huge fan of the macadamia nuts and slight salted taste but overall not bad. Waited for what appeared to be 20 minutes, just standing there. Waiting. They had my name etc. but everyone else before and after were getting their drinks. I was mildly entertained by the sassy barista who kept saying "Tweakin' and geekin!" like he'd learned a new foreign phrase. Got tired of that and the BS, tossed the cookies and left. It's really nice that high schoolers and freshman college students can still get jobs, but you get one chance to make a new customer a repeat customer. One chance. There were people there doing work, no doubt, and then others doing...I don't know WTF they were doing. It is very charming and they have nice gifts that you can buy at the counter, mugs, etc. however, the food is so meh. I've been to Maman in Georgetown and this is my second time trying Maman. The first time, I got the orange blossom latte and I really didn't enjoy it. They were serve with a berry compote which hadn't been cooked long enough and was grainy. They were also cold. Brewed coffee had no refills at 4.25 a cup. Disappointed. I would rather go somewhere else with more consistent food and service. I found it to be overpriced. The lack of attention to detail is something that I wouldn't expect from a place that charges that much for simple food. The plate where the waffles came was chipped in multiple spots. The waffles were okay but $14 for a couple of small waffles with compote and creme fraiche with a few pieces of wilted mint is too much. The smoked salmon salad I ordered came without the dill and the soft boiled egg was more a hard boiled egg. The club sandwich had mostly kale in it and it was a small sandwich for fifteen or sixteen dollars. Can't recall the exact price. The service was okay, but the waitresses were a little bit pushy, more than two girls came to ask if we were ready to order and we had just seated down. It's not bad but in my opinion it's not a memorable place to go back to. I recently visited Maman for brunch with my family and by special request from my daughter (just turned 16), as she wanted to go here because of a previous experience that was great. So I had high hopes for a memorable dining experience. However, my overall impression was not like the last as both the food and service fell short of expectations. Let's start with the food. While it wasn't terrible, it also wasn't outstanding. The dishes we ordered lacked the wow factor and failed to leave a lasting impression on us. I had the Tartine Au Saumon. The presentation was nice, however the bread was way over-toasted requiring cutting the dish with a knife producing a loud crunching sound.. I also had a regular coffee that was lukewarm at best. The flavors were somewhat bland and didn't have the depth or creativity I had anticipated. Overall, the food was just okay, but it didn't offer anything remarkable for me. As far as the service goes it lacks a personal touch. Let me explain, you have to first wait in a line and place your food and drink order. You are then given a number and it is up to you to find a place to sit. The seating is very limited and a challenge to find a spot to sit and enjoy your meal. I had to wait longer than expected for a table because this place is first-come, first-served. The restaurant seemed understaffed and I watched 2 staff members jolting around delivering dishes to people. They seemed disinterested and unengaged. It was challenging to get their attention as they were always preoccupied with their deliveries. The egg ratatouille which is only served on the weekend was on every table, so we had to order one and it was delicious. We also ordered the breakfast sandwich, the egg was perfectly cooked and dripped exactly the right amount that it didn't make a mess. We also ordered a Papa's breakfast bowl which was a great size portion and had good flavor. We also ordered a chai tea latte which was delicious, not too sweet and the perfect amount of flavor. The lavender hot chocolate had a nice hint of lavender and is a good option if you like chocolate. The plain drip coffee was also really good. Service was lacking and slow. We had to constantly flag someone down to order then had to follow up on the status of our drinks that never came. The pastry selection was also lacking compared to their nyc locations (I always go to the one in Soho). My friend and I were also busy fighting the gnats that kept circling around our table which made me lose my appetite. The pastry display were also infested with them- It. Was. Gross. Interior is very spacious, bright and beautiful. I enjoyed my lavender honey latte and croissants from the pastry selection. My friends beef sandwich was also really good. However, my tawni salad was a huge let down, it was a bland grain bowl really, and not a salad at all. I took a few bites and gave up eating it because it was boring and not tasty at all. To make things worse, the fire alarm went off for the entire Bethesda Row so we had to quickly leave. Wow, the decor in maman is stunning! It was so fun sitting inside and looking at all of the creative elements the interior designers incorporated. This is a walk up, order, and be served- type of restaurant. When I arrived, there was a small wait but the line moved quickly. The guy working the register was funny, and kind. My latte came out in about 5 minutes, with my food quickly behind it (another 10 minutes or so). It kind of looked like a barista attempted latte art on top, but it looked kind of silly. It was tasty, but heavy on milk without much of a punch of espresso. Most of their entrees come with greens tossed in balsamic vinaigrette. I do love that they have this healthier side, relative to most lunch spots. The salad did have a hair too much dressing, so I recommend asking for it on the side. The greens were fresh though, and the dressing was tasty. I got the Katie sandwich, which was large (I could only eat half). There was so much bread that it kind of neutralized what I'm sure were delicious flavors in the sandwich itself, making it pretty bland. It is a toasted sandwich, but wasn't very warm. Would I come here again? Yeah, sure. The ambiance is nice and there are other menu items I would like to try, like the tabouleh (which I regret not getting). read more

This is my new favorite work from "home" spot in Bethesda. There is plenty of table space and the decor, vibe, and ambience is just immaculate. It's the perfect blend of chic, rustic, with greenery everywhere! The attention to detail in the decor adds to the overall appeal of why you should go to Maman! The chai latte and the Belgian waffle is soooo good! A definite must try! I think what truly sets Maman apart is their friendly and attentive staff.
