Here is what we ordered: Pumpkin pancakes - about as thin as cardboard - flavor was anything but pumpkin - was asked if we wanted bacon or hash browns, we selected bacon not knowing it was an up charge of more than $7 for 3 slices Corn beef hash and eggs - corned beef had the texture of wet saw dust - eggs were gritty like powder - pancakes were decent There is no way I would eat the beef and eggs - I didn't return it, but it sat in the table. I use to walk to this location often. Always crowded. All of the normal breakfast options with quick service. I especially like their Dutch pancakes called, "Dutch Baby" is a signature, oven-baked "German pancake" known for its soufflé-like puff that falls into a custard center. You can ask for powdered sugar, lemon or cream. The only other place that's has something similar is in Prost DC: A German restaurant offering a "Deutsch Baby" that is cooked in a skillet. One day, I was like: Since you have been to Silver Diner a bunch of times, why not give The Original Pancake House a shot? I think I counted 8 pages of various dishes, so everyone should be able to find something that they will like. If you are an indecisive diner, then you might want to check out the menu prior to arriving because you will have A LOT of items to chose from. For my selection, I went with the Eggs Benedict + half waffle combo (I forget what's the actual name of the dish). I think this is the first time that I've ever seen Eggs Benedict served with a waffle/pancakes. This was a cool selection, because I have been in the predicament of concurrently craving waffles and Eggs Benedict but not wanting to purchase two separate entrees. So, it looks as if The Original Pancake House has solved the problem for me. My meal was pretty good, and I have absolutely no complaints. In addition to the Eggs Benedict and half waffle, the dish was served with two strips of bacon and hashbrowns. I thought the portions were quite generous. I had breakfast around 10 am and did not need to have my next meal until 4 pm. Overall, service was pretty good. I was immediately greeted by my server within 2-3 of being seated. After ordering, the food came out pretty fast, and the table had all of the condiments that I would need. I did not have an opportunity to explore much of the actual restaurant. However, from what I saw, I thought the restaurant was pretty clean and well-maintained. While the restaurant has plenty of free parking, it has a one way in/same way out situation, which can cause a little congestion. I thought the prices were pretty much in line with other larger, sit-down breakfast spots in the area. I think my meal was about $25 bucks - the meal, coffee, tax, and tip. The restaurant was busy, nose level is moderate and the space although big they maximize it by having close seating. Our table was small but the restaurant is clean. The staff work fast with clearing things out. Our waiter was attentive, informative and had a great personality. The food came out fairly quick. I ordered "the works" which was delicious. It came with (2) eggs, (2) bacon, potatoes (diced or shredded) & pancakes (or French toast). I enjoyed the experience. Overall I would go again. The waffle was large. Black Coffee: good quality Service was quick. Got seated immediately (Sunday morning 11:30) which was happily unexpected too. Normally this place is quite packed on a Sunday morning but maybe because of people at the beach or something it was less crowded. The most difficult part of this experience was in paying the bill actually. The restaurant wants patrons to go cashless and to use a proprietary app that one of the business partners has a financial stake in. The main problem is that you have to tell the server your name up front in order to put the receipt on the tab as opposed to other places where a QR code would appear on the receipt and the payment process is absolutely seam. I made a recommendation to the manager to put the QR code on the receipt to facilitate this process in the future. This server did not seem to understand the current system the way it is designed and I had to explain it to him twice and then go talk to the manager which was disappointingly not expected in order to save time. While my experience wouldn't necessarily coincide with this statement I do believe they produce average diner style food. Average meaning typical quality, quantity and customer service. I visited on a late Sunday morning and as anticipated it was crowded with plenty diners however, surprisingly I was seated almost immediately. The food was OK however I thought there was room for more attention to detail such a melted cheese on the cheese eggs and flavorful blueberry pancakes. As unsanitary as that was, what really shocked all of us was that the server (or anyone) didn't apologize, offer to clean the table the roach had scurried through- nothing. He just walked away.
