Not returning. We were initially greeted and seated outside, but the hostess forgot about us, and we waited a good 30 minutes before approaching the front counter for service. The hostess, who had a heavy accent, was not warm or welcoming and didn't seem happy to be working. The entire staff appeared unprofessional, reminiscent of a high school mentality. The coffee was subpar and while they had a heavy flow of customers staff seems like they are jeopardizing the quality and customer service experience. Extremely overpriced for very basic food. Better off going to McDonalds for breakfast. Not worth the wait. I ordered the breakfast sandwich and it was bad. We left and went straight to Call Your Mom and ordered another breakfast sandwich which was 10 times better. The staff was very nice and the vibe is chill. We came twice for Sunday morning brunch around 10am and got seated immediately. It is a nice place to have brunch. They had very similar concept with the previously occupied le pain quotidien, coffee, pastries and lightwares. The food selection is great for me and my husband. I tried two grain salad and my husband got hot dish and sandwich. Thumbs up to strawberry croissant and pistachio croissant, both stuffed with lightly sweetened jam. I get the subpar reviews unfortunately. I was excited to learn there was a Maman in the DMV after trying their amazing chocolate chip cookies in NYC but this location pales in comparison. Idk if it's just the sort of snooty vibes of Bethesda Row but literally every single person who helped us with our super simple order (1 hot chocolate and $40 worth of pastries to go) seemed inconvenienced by our presence. There was no line ahead of us for the to go ordering, but the girl at the counter stared at us blankly as we were left wondering if she was ready to take our order or not. The girl making our drink was similarly annoyed. On top of that, our pastries were shoved haphazardly in the purchased gift box. Bummer. The pastries were fine taste wise but there was a weird discrepancy among sizes as we browsed...cookies were not consistent in sizing so it was hard to know if you're getting full value for the price (some were teeny). While the interiors are just as cute as the NYC locations, I am doubtful I would trek all the way here for the cookies again (esp when Levain is around the corner). Super disappointing. read more

The first time we went, we waited 45 minutes for our order to be taken, then when we ordered salad, we waited over 30 minutes only to be told that their kitchen was too small to handle all the lunch orders and that it would be another 30 minutes. We left. We went inside and bought a cookie, the pistachio pound cake and a chocolate croissant. The cookie was soft and delicious. The pistachio pound cake l, despite being green, did not taste at all of pistachio. It was average. The chocolate croissant was nothing special. They were all overpriced and underwhelming. The second attempt at lunch was comparable. We actually got to order and our server was lovely. However, the food took a long time to arrive and one of the dishes was returned because the taste was below par. My dish was also less then appetizing. The potatoes were cold and I was told they were meant to be that way. The only time cold potatoes are good are in a potato salad. Not like this. My other friends found their dishes to be alright. All-in-all, we were disappointed and found it to be more hype than substance. read more

Nope! Maman Bethesda is on some kind of downward slope. After the waitress openly sneezed right in front of us without even an attempt to cover, I was ready to go (and should have). To her credit, but only after I pointed out that she didn't cover her mouth, she apologized twice. However, after that, the service was pretty much nonexistent and the food was not great. The waffles were way too sweet (like candy) and I love sweets, so that says a lot. The eggs with cheese (they only have "like Swiss" or feta) were made with so much cheese, it was really chewy and should've just been called a plate of cheese with egg in it. The only time after ordering that we saw the waitress was when I was able to get her attention to let her know that both of our glasses were chipped with sharp edges. After that, she was nowhere to be found until check time. No waitress meant no butter, no more coffee (which was the only thing I enjoyed)...nothing. Too many other places to go in Bethesda, Maman. Had a hard time getting our server's attention, halfway through our brunch, 3 of the 4 coffees arrived and had to contact another server 15 minutes later we were waiting on the fourth coffee. Sadly disappointed and grossly underwhelmed! Came around 10am on a Saturday. I think there are definite kinks to work out given they opened just recently. I think some of it is lack of staff but otherwise there needs to be better management. We waited a while to be seated. We waited even more to have our order taken. It took forever for the food to come out. You could tell there was a lot of confusion as they tried to drop off food that we didn't order. The breakfast sandwich was cold and they totally forgot the avocado altogether. It was mostly bread and overpowered by the bacon jam. Very overpriced for what you actually get. The breakfast bowl was good but not impressive for the price point especially given that it's mostly potatoes and only one egg. The strawberry peach brioche bun my son picked was totally a waste at $5.30 - the brioche didn't have much taste to it and the filling was nothing spectacular. To end it all, the check we were presented with was wrong (had drinks on it we didn't even order). The only good part of the experience is that our waiter was so gracious and the chocolate chip nut cookie made famous by Oprah and their vegan lemon poppyseed cookie are very good. The decor is cute and a little whimsical. If you want to try this place, avoid the weekend as they can't seem to handle much volume at the moment. Another disappointing aspect is that I downloaded the app to consider doing a takeaway coffee or cookie in the future and they said they don't have the App capability at this location. The waitress asked multiple times if we were still waiting on anything (ahh, I knew we were in trouble when I asked her to tell me what we might still be waiting on and she didn't know!). I have a never had to ask 4 times for a drip coffee, which was only received after I walked up to the bar the second time and 20 minutes after ordering. The management of this place is so bad they should just close down before they go any further. Bethesda already has a ton of French cafes and bakeries so these guys should just kill their plan of having a restaurant before it gets any worse. read more

The pastries are delicious and I recommend getting the pistachio and chocolate croissants but get them to go or you may have to ask your server multiple times to bring your order to you. I just left this location after waiting near the door to be seated (as the sign instructed) and no one was there. Got in line to order, excited because a barista was making a great looking espresso martini. She was fantastic! I asked if I could have that and she inquired if we were dining in. We wanted to but the host was MIA. She flagged him down and he proceeded to seat us at a awkward location. I asked to be seated at a table and he said because there would be an influx in people that it those tables would need to be reserved for guests of four. No one else was waiting to be seated and there were three 4 person tables and two patrons (us) that were there in the flesh wanting an non stool chair seat facing a wall. He said we can wait 20 mins for one of the 2 seat tables to be available. When going back to the waiting area. I noticed multiple 4 person tables with just two people sitting. I inquired and he quickly explained it away that they came earlier.
