So I'm beginning to prefer this location over Burnett #1 and #3. To my benefit, they are all not too far out of reach, from me or each other. That's a good thing, I guess. But for a while now, this location (#2) has had consistently better service and better portions. We ordered a few items for to-go in preparation for a superbowl party and the process was seamless from calling to inquire, making the order, and picking it up. I appreciate that! This particular venue has always been my back-up preference, but now it has been rightfully bumped up to primary choice. Always clean inside, family friendly, small space but available tables should you decide to dine in. If the service doesn't convince you to stay, the aroma will. You can smell it from blocks away lol Of course, this franchise is a long time neighborhood staple, so I remember the days when you could get a full platter for no more than $18/20. I've been getting take out here with my family nearly my entire life. Burnet BBQ (not just this loc) were staples when my parents didn't want to cook but wanted good food. I don't think you can go wrong with anything but we always got half trays of everything. Little tip: Don't get the fries if you are doing take out, they don't keep or travel well. But everything else will be just as fantastic, eat in or take out. Last time I came here with my mom we got the ribs, chicken, rice and beans with plenty of leftovers to take home. Called ahead to order and it seems our order got a little mixed up, but it was still a pretty tasty meal. This was our first time here. The place seemed pretty busy with all types of people going in and out which we thought was a good sign. We live over 40 mins away so we can't just pop back in if there's a problem. We had ordered a chicken/rib combo with fries and veg but when we got it home it was just chicken. My husband was disappointed. The veg aren't all that either - bland boiled cabbage, carrots and potatoes...and he hates cabbage. They should advertise what kind of veggies you're getting. The chicken was really good though. I ordered the half order pork bits with shrimp with rice/beans and there were no beans and 3 small overcooked shrimp. It was mostly pork which tasted good. There were some potato pieces on the bottom. I thought all meals came with 2 sides unless they gave me potatoes instead. The seasoning on the pork was a new flavor for me, I could not put my finger on it. The potatoes at the bottom soaked up all the oil and made them extra tasty. We also ordered flan for dessert which was pretty large and tasty, but would have liked a little bit more syrup. First time visiting this place.. My sister told me about it so I ordered food for my spiritual mom.. The prices were great for the amount of food your getting.. I ordered 1/2 salmon and 1/2 chicken.. The was so delicious and the salmon was very moist, which I'm surprised because that type of fish dries out quickly.. The sauce that comes with it adds such flavor.. When I walked in the the ladies were friendly.. It doesn't take a while for you get get the food as it is cook fresh It's a small place with four tables and chairs so not enough space to sit and eat if empty but it appears everyone gets the food to good. This spot has been around a very long time. I remember visiting this location or the original up the straight on Vauxhall since I was in high school over 20 years ago. The food has already been food. Since I move I don't get to visit this location much but I happened to be in Union today so I stopped to place an order and the food was amazing. I order the beef rib with yellow rice and fries with a side of garlic. The food was good as it has always been but the prices are higher than most place. Granted prices have gone up with everything they still turn to be higher than usual but aside from that I did enjoy it, actually I enjoyed it enough to forget to take a picture for my yelp post before finishing it. lol read more

We have ordered from here numerous times for delivery but today for some reason we were denied. I gave her my address and she insisted that it was in Elizabeth, when we are clearly in Union. She repeatedly told me that her GPS says Elizabeth, even though my driver license and all my mail say Union. She flat out refused to serve us and told me she wouldn't be delivering to us. It seems like the reviews for this establishment are a bit all over the place but one thing is for sure, their food definitely warrants more the 2 or 3 stars. One of my friends that lives in the area decided to pick up food from this restaurant before we headed out to see Fifty Shades Freed since we were running late and I am so glad that she did! She ordered a combo that included chicken, ribs, yellow rice, black beans and she threw in an order of French Fries all for $20! Great value if you ask me! She came back with a half a tray of pure deliciousness! The ribs had amazing flavor and were perfectly grilled. The chicken also tasted good and was nice and moist. The yellow rice was your typical Portuguese type of rice and same with the black beans. The fries I also loved! I came here last week with family, we ordered a combo with ribs and chicken and a steak and the food came pretty fast. But when i received my plate, it wasn't completely washed there was some pieces of lettuce all around the plate so i just received a new one. Food- The chicken was pretty juicy, the taste was so good in each and every bite. The ribs are huge! it's so juicy and tender and with that hot sauce that they have it will taste amazing. This location has declined in their treatment of customers and also the flavor of the food. The last time I ordered from here the lady sounded aggravated and was rushing me off the phone. I picked up my order, traveled 20 miles away only to open my bag and find out the wrong order was given to me. I called the restaurant to tell them because I couldn't eat what was given to me and the lady yelled at me over the phone and argued with me that I ordered that item... when I know for a fact that I didn't because I have been ordering the same thing for well over 10 years! I stayed calm and told her that the right thing to do was to just apologize, correct the wrong and give me a credit of some sort for next time. She goes, you want your order, come and get it! No apology! No way! So you can spit in it! Needless to say because of her actions and flat out calling me a liar, my family and friends who also heard her carrying on will not support this business. I was expecting take out in a styrofoam box, but instead, I received a 13x9 aluminum pan filled with food. What did I get myself into!? Combo Chicken and Pork Ribs with Fries and Rice ($14): Is this the Portuguese response to Latin American cuisine portions? The serving is ridiculous -- I'm a pretty tall guy with a huge appetite but I had leftovers for five days! This *full* combo comes with 1/2 of a whole barbequed chicken, four pretty long ribs and the equivalent of two cups of rice and fries; note that you could also opt for vegetables and beans or whatever combination of sides you would like. Taste wise, the chicken was seasoned well and had a light saltiness to the crispy skin. It was cooked well, with the meat coming right off the bone. The chicken was delicious and was probably my favorite meat of the combo. On the other hand, the ribs were a disappointment. Yes, they were grilled but that was really it. I tasted char and smokey meat; there was no seasoning whatsoever. Also, the ribs were not as tender as the chicken was. Some people like their meat like that, but I am -- unfortunately -- not one of those people. The rice was no big deal but was tasty; it was yellow and had a slight buttery flavor to it. Fries are fries; however, for some odd reason, the soggier the fries, the more I liked them. I don't know...that's just me, though. You could get the same thing with only two ribs for $8.50, which is still an awesome deal. Burnet #2 also sells grilled and boiled fish, clams, sausage, steak, various pork dishes, sandwiches, salads, and a few desserts. For a small place on the side of the road, they're churning out huge portions, at least when it comes to take out barbeque. read more

The place is in desperate need of air conditioning, it's always super hot. The food is on point. I always think the shrimp, (not deveined) is super buttery, but that's how my friends like them. My wife and I ordered a whole chicken to dine in. When they called my name, I noticed they wrapped it up in a to-go platter. I asked for plates and the lady behind the counter told me I'm not supposed to eat in if my order was to-go. Yet I said we were dining in. My wife overheard the conversation and was disappointed by the lack of grace by the lady. Dirty looks were exchanged and she eventually gave us plates and utensils. Was that really worth the aggravation? The questionable customer service was not what earned this branch a 1-star rating. The food was of noticeably inferior quality to the Burnet branch. Burnet is a quaint little dine in/take out restaurant located on Stuyvesant Ave in Union, NJ. The food is good and the owners/staff are very polite. You can either dine in or take out. They have a few tables and chairs. I have had the beef ribs, pork ribs and chicken. You do get a lot of food for the price which is very, very reasonable. When driving by the aroma from the wood fire grill cooking those meats are so delicious. I would definitely go there again.
