Since I have a pretty low spice tolerance, I was a little nervous ordering dishes like Mapo Tofu and Spicy Work Wontons. However, the kiosk ordering system made it easy, and we were able to request everything to be prepared mild. Both dishes were so delicious! The service here is quick and friendly. A worker even brough water directly to our table, which was so thoughtful. The restaurant has plenty of indoor seating if you want to dine in. Lovely little Chinese takeaway right on the sidelines of the Old Fairfax town center. Lots of "classic" dishes and they're all bangers. The place itself is quite small for dine in, but I'm pretty sure that's not their target so we were able to get a seat for 2 pretty easily on a Friday evening. We got mostly "ABC" comfort foods - orange chicken, Yangzhou fried rice, Singapore rice noodles - and an order of their dumplings in spicy sauce (a bit surprising as it's a more northern China style compared to the rest of menu). It was definitely a bit much for just 2 of us but we intended to take home leftovers. All of it was delicious, cooked to spec, but what really makes them stand out is their superior "wok-hei"; it is the soul of wok-style dishes and compliments to the chef(s) - they absolutely know their craft and it shines in the flavor. This craftsmanship is lost in the new generation and it's a real treat to see it preserved here out of all places. Dumplings were splendid. So delicious!! I think we may have found our new go-to Chinese takeout spot. It can be really difficult to find a good solid place, so it's taken a while. Decided to give mamas taste a try and no regrets!! Everything was fresh and hot. The pan fried pork dumplings (which I didn't get a pic of) were amazing. We got way too much food for two people but we wanted to try a lot of different options, now we will just have leftovers for a couple days :) their portions were also generous and packed to the brim. New year, light dinner and my new go-to soup spot for 2026! I called in an order for the Pick 2 hot and sour soups along with steamed chicken dumplings, and everything exceeded my expectations. The restaurant is located in a strip plaza alongside other mom-and-pop shops at Courthouse Plaza Center, with plenty of convenient parking available. The service was excellent. When I called to place my order, the person at the front desk listened attentively, clearly explained the menu options, and let me know they were busy and would need a bit of extra time, which I truly appreciated. And the food? Incredible. The hot and sour soup was even better than my previous favorite spot perfectly balanced seasoning, fresh vegetables, and rich flavor. The best fast food Chinese restaurant and my go to spot for orange flavored beef. Deep fried and sauced to perfection! It's best eaten fresh as soon as it comes out, but it is super hot so gotta be very careful biting into it!! All of their dishes we have tried have been really good and consistently good! And of course since we love spicy food, most of our dishes we get from Mama's taste are spicy dishes. A few that we always get are spicy mapo tofu, eggplant in hot garlic sauce, spicy oil noodles and combination chowfun noodle dish. Amongst other dishes we have tried, those are our favorite. Friendly customer service, food comes out fairly quickly (you do wait if you go at their busy hours), and orange flavored beef does take a little more time to come out. Restaurant isn't big inside and only has about 7-8 big/small tables. Casual dining and water is self serve, just ask for a cup. read more

It was a really rainy day, and I had always wanted to try these noodles after I saw someone talk about it on Instagram! It did not disappoint. Overall it's good Chinese food especially if you want take out. They kind of are a mix between authentic with Americanized Chinese food. I like getting the beef flat noodles as the noodles are nice and chewy. Other things I ordered before is the bean curd, crispy beef, house vegetable soup, general tso chicken. I think if you go off the pictures for this place, It'll be safe to eat those dishes. Food comes out fast and service is good. Food: 10/10 recommend. I've been trying to take my friends and family there because it's hard for me to explain. It's not your typical chinese-american style food; everything tasted so fresh and unprocessed. There is so much variety on menu that I'll need to keep coming back with my friends and family so I can try everything on the menu. Pepper steak (white rice included)- I don't even like peppers that much but they were so perfectly cooked-- just firm enough to bite into or pick up without them falling apart but still so soft. The pepper flavor doesn't overpower the sauce flavor or the steak. The steak looked like actual pieces of meat and were so tender that we didn't need to cut it up at all. General tso (white rice included)- omg sooo crispy like it was tossed in the sauce just before serving. We got 3/4 spicy level and it was perfect sweet tang in combination with the biang biang noodles' Szechuan-type spicy. The chicken so juicy and lean. Biang biang noodles (shrimp)- noodles met in your mouth, theyre so good and the sauce wasn't just mouth-tingly, it had a very nice flavor. ordered with shrimp despite not really liking shrimp, but I like trying a variety of proteins to get a good feel for cooking style. These little shrimps were not chewy at all, not fishy, and there were so many of them! Nobody asked, but I liked that they used short grain rice. It wasn't overcooked or over-starchy. The portions were surprisingly generous making it even more worth the price. After dividing the leftovers, I had lunch for work the next 2 days. The leftovers tasted so good, too. Service: fast and polite. The food came out at the same time and there were text message updates on the status of our food. When it got to us, the food was still freshly hot, not reheated. We came in not realizing that they closed in like 45min but they still welcomed us very warmly and made effort to thank us despite more customers straggling in as we left. Tried this because we were looking for sesame and/or General Chaos chicken. The lady behind the counter was very busy talking phone orders but helpful. She explained that the sesame chicken was made with white chicken meat and the Generals chicken was made from dark chicken meat. Wife opted for the sesame chicken. I got beef and broccoli and we split a pork fried rice. We did take out as it was brutally cold inside the small dining area. Overall the fried rice was excellent and the beef and broccoli was also. The sesame chicken was ok. Portions were good and it came with all the normal Chinese takeout supplies, soy sauce, duck sauce etc. overall a good experience for takeout. They have vegan general tsos'! Although it sounds weird it's actually pretty good. Moreover they're efficient. Super small place but you have the opportunity to order at the cash register or at a kiosk. You can also choose the spice level of your food! If think the most underrated item on the menu is their vegetable soup- super hangover helper but also great and soul warming. read more

I ordered chicken with black bean sauce with added beef and pork. (Yes, it was a lot of protein). I requested they only use a small amount of black bean sauce and they went a little overboard or the chef didn't get the memo. Nonetheless, it was wonderful. I wouldn't think twice about returning. I stumbled upon this place after the Asian Festival on Main in Fairfax. The inside resembles any fast casual strip mall restaurant, although the lady at the counter was quick to welcome us as we walked in. We could either order with her, or with the touchscreen machine. The food came out fairly quickly, although I was warned that the jumbo soup dumplings would take 25 minutes. I loved the handmade noodles, and I recommend anything handmade. I can't attest to the standard Chinese takeout food, such as the orange chicken, general tso, etc. but I love that there's handmade items here, and it's a big differentiating factor between them and other Chinese takeout places. The noodles were very chewy, though they could have used more chili oil, and the dumplings were quite large. I'll have to try the normal dumplings next time read more

This is a perfect spot for those desiring a quick takeout spot. While there are tables in the restaurant, it seems few dine in. Dine in is served on flimsy styrofoam plates which adds little to the ambiance. All of the dishes we ordered tasted fine but as a Chinese person, the dishes seemed to be catered to an Americanized palate. Let's start with the setup: everything is served on Styrofoam plates with plastic cutlery and those budget napkins that disintegrate if you look at them too hard. You'll need a stack just to survive a saucy dish--and trust me, they're generous with the sauce. Too generous. Especially when you're ordering crispy beef and end up with soggy sadness in a puddle of mystery gravy. We've tried asking for it with light sauce (you know, crispy beef as advertised), but that request was met with the kind of attitude you'd expect if we'd asked them to reinvent the menu. The woman at the register, who seems to be the main person there, doesn't exactly radiate warmth--unless you count passive-aggressive heat. Bottom line: the food can be okay on a good day, but it's inconsistent. And between the flimsy setup and the less-than-welcoming vibes, we've found better options around Fairfax that make you feel like they actually want you to come back. Mama's Taste? My wife and I stopped by here to try a couple dishes in early February 2024 before a show at the GMU Center for the Arts. It was crowded on Lunar New Year - a promising sign. The restaurant has a busy takeout service, but the interior is pleasant and has 8 tables. However, expect to wait at least 10 to 15 minutes (at least for dinner). Based on other Yelp reviews, we decided to order the biang bang noodles. After a 10 minute wait and getting water from the DIY dispense (in front of the Pepsi refrigerated cabinet) we quickly inhaled the homemade noodles, bok-choy, and chili oil. I was practically licking my fingers. Needless to say, I cannot wait to order this dish again on a future visit. For the other dishes, we enjoyed a plate of steamed chicken dumplings and a plate of steamed pork & shrimp dumplings. Personally, I enjoyed the chicken a lot. However, I was not a big fan of the combination of shrimp and pork. But to each, their own. I cannot speak about the American-style Chinese dishes - but the specialty items are outstanding! The food here is solid. I ordered the pan fried dumplings, crispy beef, and orange chicken. I really liked the taste of the dumplings, but they fall apart a little bit when you try to pick it up with a fork, so it was a little hard to eat. The orange chicken was pretty good as well. But some of the chicken felt a little bit tough, and I wish it was crispier. My favorite was definitely the crispy beef. The sauce was really tasty, and the beef was perfectly crispy. We got biang biang noodles and jumbo soup dumplings. I got my noodles with beef. I think the noodles are described as homemade or something, but it seems like they just mean the dish is freshly made, because the noodles themselves had the texture of boiled dry pasta. Quite soft and not chewy like I want in biang biang noodles, no bite. The beef was just Chinese takeout beef, and the spice wasn't spicy or very flavorful. This didn't scratch my itch for Xi'an Famous Foods. However, the jumbo soup dumplings were good. The wrapper and filling were obviously made in house and tasted delicious. Only the soup was not great and made the dumplings impractical to eat since they're not a normal soup dumpling shape/size. So next time I would just get their normal-sized fried pork dumplings/potstickers. read more

This place is my new go to; how did I not know about this hidden gem before? The food was clean, tasty, and came out super quick! The staff was super friendly and answered our many questions. She recommended their dumplings as she said "I stand by our dumplings". Dumplings were JUICY yet fried perfectly. They were a bit bigger than I anticipated but hey, can't complain. My husband loves the Chinese American dishes and said his general tso's chicken was delightful. The fried rice could have been better but again, can't complain for rice that comes with your dish. I loved their Biang Biang noodles. I got it without meat and it was perfect with the bokchoy. Place was super clean, ample parking, and right next to chubby squirrel! This place felt like an elevated take out restaurant; we had not problem eating there because the space felt comfortable. Writing this review after my second experience with Mama's Taste today. The food so far is quite good. I have tried Pan Fried Pork Dumplings, Ma Po Tofu, Spicy Wonton, Chicken Lomein and Yang Chow Fried Rice. Everything had good flavor and tasted less salty than the usual Chinese take out. I particularly like their fried dumplings and fried rice. Mapo Tofu and Spicy Wonton are tasty but not at all like those I had in Chengdu. If you order at the restaurant, you will use the kiosk and order and pay using the self service machine and will have to wait for about 15 minutes. But if you order online ahead of time, it should minimize the wait time and I did so at my second time. This is a very good Chinese take out joint for me from now on whenever I am in the area. read more

I really love Mama's Taste! I've been to Mama's Taste many times, and every single time the food has been absolutely delicious. The food here is amazing -- especially the Biangbiang Noodles which are absolutely delicious. They also have a wide variety of authentic Chinese dishes, like Kungpao Chicken, Pork with Dry Bean Curd and Eggplant with GarlicSauce, all of which are cooked perfectly and full of flavor. Their Jumbo Soup Dumplings are very authentic too -- juicy, flavorful, and just like the ones you'd find in China. I had the fried dumplings, Szechuan green beans, and the three meat soup. First off, the place is small and had a steady stream of customers. There is plenty of parking in the strip mall and if you want a beer you can always go next door afterwards (or before). Second, the dumplings were green and were DAM good! They were crisp on the underside and moist and meaty and yummy throughout. The green beans were flavorful but not spicy like Szechuan usually is but I enjoyed them because they were very tasty and still had some crunch. The soup's meats were all tender. It had shrimp, chicken and beef and plenty of veggies! The broth was mild so it's delicate flavor didn't over power anything. This place is approaching 5 stars. They only provide paper plates and plastic forks and they don't serve alcohol or serve your table. So I say 4.5 on food, 4.0 on ambiance. read more
