Could not even get the chance to enjoy my food because this place has a "no hat policy" after 10pm. I was not aware of this, they have no signs what so ever on the doors, the employees did not even informed me when I arrived here! This is very unprofessional and such an inconvenience to the customers. The security guard even opened the door and saw me with my hat on when I arrived and did not informed me of this ridiculous policy. I will not be back here and I will make sure to inform all Of my friends about this place. I love the sushi here! It is Dominican fusion sushi and they add their own little twist to every dish. I usually get the steak sushi which has sweet plantains and lobster on top which is the ultimate! So I came here for a friends brunch yesterday and although the music was great the customer service was absolutely terrible, our waiter was so unprofessional. She asked us if we wanted to ordered food and would stand there waiting in front of you waiting for you too decide. I had to ask her to give me a couple of minutes because of not she would of just stared at me looking at the menu. The whole time we had our drinks not one glass of water at the table thee entire time we were there, normally it's the first thing on the table along side you're utensils. I was a bit scared with all the reviews posted but I decided to give this place a try for my birthday. Yes today is my birthday and I wanted to venture out with the sushi/Latin atmosphere and it did not disappoint. The minute I walked in the hostess was super welcoming and they provided me with a table. My waiter was Roger.. he was the best and super sweet and advises me of the most popular drinks and meal provided by the establishment. Just tried out Mama Sushi in Passaic. The decor and food were spectacular. The service a little slow but so attentive. Kirsis was great. She gave great advise on what to get. The menu was a little daunting as it has so much to choose from. The bar was where they need to work. Slow service on drinks and the bartenders need more experience. They do accept credit cards....now if they have an R&B night this girl would be down for the dancing. read more

The place was very easy to find although parking was not. Let's see upon arrival there is a seven dollar fee for A mandatory coat check. I recommend getting a reservation before coming. Although the environment was good I wouldn't recommend someone you're trying to have a conversation with over a romantic dinner because that's what I thought this place was but it's more like a night club/day club rather. The food was very very very good it's just sushi with a Dominican twist. The drinks were not so great the only drink I thought was the best was Something along the lines of Hennessy pineapple. Which by the way they were out of and I'm not sure why the day that I went they were out of a lot of items on the menu. Some great things were they have Hookah, organized seating and reservations, music ( to loud if you want to converse) perfect if you wanna dance sitting down while you eat. I heard about this place from a friend, who had positive things to say about this place. I checked the reviews to confirm & NOW, I understand why there's so many negative reviews. I called Tuesday afternoon to make a reservation for Saturday night, for 3 people at 9:30. Reservation was confirmed with Ashley. I received a automated message to confirm my reservation for Saturday. PERFECT right? No. I drove from Elizabeth to Passaic to this place to have a good time, to relax from a stressful work week, but the COMPLETE OPPOSITE happened to us. We got here on time! 9:24pm for our CONFIRMED reservation at 9:30. Once welcomed, we were told that they "over-booked" & it was a 30 minute wait...... hold up? I called on Tuesday for this exact reason. So I question "what's the point of making a reservation, if I still have to wait 30 minutes to be seated?" Then the host (which is Ashley) asked me "Who I spoke too" I told her I don't remember but I think it was Ashley .. she said "OH THATS ME"- " are you sure" OBVIOUSLY I didn't speak to anyone else plus how else would I know your name if it's my 1st time here! She told us that we would be seated, but we had to finish by 11pm .... so you expect me .. to RELAX, DRINK, & EAT BY 11 ... okay Ashley. While waiting to be seated, we had to check-in our coats for a fee of $2 each, when I saw plenty of people with their jackets still ..... sooooo ... even people who came after us.. still had their jackets. I couldn't even go to the bathroom & change my tampon. WHY? Because they were in MY JACKET! HE PERSONALLY NEVER SPOKE TO ANYONE IN MY GROUP. once again, we explained that we had just ordered our food & that we already spoke to the manager... this is where.... I've had it already. We felt pressured into leaving ... we felt unwelcomed. Around 15 minutes pass by & we're still waiting for our food to come, once again .... you guessed it ... Ashley shows up. "Oh ... remember I told you we needed the table at 11" once again, we spoke to the manager & he said we're okay to stay here. I can see this place, definitely lacks Communication between its employees. Our food arrives & I've already lost the appetite to finish the food I ordered, so what else do you do? Went to this restaurant on my 25th birthday and I had a blast! Definitely recommend it! They fixed a table for 9 very quickly and the the server was very attentive. This was our first time in a restaurant like this so the server explained with detail every dish and we made our decisions fairly quickly. We ordered some pitchers of sangria and boyyyyy let me tell you they were STRONG! Obviously a good thing. Haha! My mom was definitely feeling it from one cup. When the food came out, my whole family was in awe at the beautiful aesthetic of every single plate. The attention to detail was truly respectable. I don't remember the names of all the dishes of the top of my head but anything you order I'm sure you'll enjoy. The only problem we had was with my friend's vegetarian dish, it had chicken when she asked for it without it, but the server was very nice about it and she received a new plate in less than 5 min. This location however is by far my favorite, very spacious and beautiful decor! Our waitress Carolina was so attentive and friendly. And the Karaoke nights with Henry are a blast! After we got drinks, we actually got our sushi in less time than it took to get our drinks. I ordered the Las Terranas, which was really surprisingly great. My girlfriends had the La Chiapadora roll which was yummy as well. I went again for the second time with my boyfriend on a Monday evening, and the place was empty. This time, I sat at the bar and wanted my boyfriend to try out what I had. Unfortunately, this experience was different.
