Mambo's has a small outdoor seating area, which is important during COVID times. Note that in the evening it can be chilly. I ordered a Caesar. It was good, not great. Croutons were rock hard for some reason. I'm always on the lookout for a good carbonara. While Mambo's is OK, it is not great. The sauce is too cream based, like an Alfredo. You can't taste the pancetta at all. The whisky punch drink was very tasty. What makes this a four instead of a three star is the service. My service was very accommodating. It is my absolute favorite. I usually like to pair it with Quattro Mani Montepulciano fora simple, tasty red. I also like to get the side salad to start. I made a take out order for the Pan Seared Sockeye Salmon. It was a very tasty sandwich. They make their own focaccia bread. The salmon was well cooked and. moist, the dressing, the lettuce, and tomato were all fresh. It took 15 or so to prepare. I would have given it five stars, but I felt that the server who took my order was not friendly and seemed a bit annoyed. It could be that the person was stressed out. I came here for dinner one night while visiting Bellingham and I was very impressed with everything! My friend and I were seated right away and I ordered the Lemon Drop cocktail and it was very tasty. To start, I got a small cesar salad which was also very good (and pretty big for a small). They also gave us a complimentary baguette with butter and olive oil. We both ordered a pasta dish, and let me tell you they were huge! It was featured on the menu as their signature dish, and I love seafood with pasta, so I thought it would be great. There was little sauce, it tasted really off, and the flavors of the shrimp with the strong, tart olives and too many anchovies and/or garlic so it didn't all go well together. I've never complained of too much garlic in my life. This was $22 pretax. The person with me got a Greek salad and wasn't too impressed with it. He did a lot of pushing it around on the plate with his fork, too shy to tell me he wanted something else. The waitress was slow to bring out drinks and didn't check on us once. This is one of two Italian restaurants that I go to, the other being Giuseppe's. Mambo Italiano is much more affordable but I think the food here is as good as that at Giuseppe's. As of writing this review, most entrees at Mambo run from $16~$22 whereas they range from $20~$40 at Giuseppe's. I was very impressed by the seafood puttanesca. It was only $21.50, but had a very generous amount of seafood: mussels, clams, big prawns, and generous salmon pieces. The fettuccine was a bit overcooked, but I was very happy with everything else about the puttanesca. They also have several dishes for kids, which are also extremely reasonably price: $5~$8. The ambience at Mambo Italiano is casual but cute enough to bring a date here. The service here is friendly and casual, more suitable for family dining than intimate dining. The lasagne has just about no meat and just a bit of sauce and no pasta, it seemed to be only layers of cheese with small amounts of sauce. I like sea food so I ordered the puttanesca, which came with generous portion of sea food . The red sauce was appropriately brothy , with a little spicy kick and red pepper which wasn't overwhelming the taste. After driving most of the day and checking into a local hotel it was time to find a place that we could get a decent meal without driving too far, deciding it would a pizza night the search began and let me tell ya there are lots of choices for pizza in this town, it almost seems as if pizza is the comfort food in this part of the country. Those of you who love good pizza understand the importance of getting a visual prior to committing to any particular restaurant in a city you are not familiar with and today Mambo Italiano Cafe seemed to have the most appealing pictures regardless of a few negative reviews regarding the service. After driving around the block a few times we found a parking space relatively close to the restaurant's entrance directly across the street, the exterior of the restaurant was cute with a few outdoor tables and a few patio heaters illuminated the seating area, being the temperature was moderate it seemed to be more about the ambiance than for warmth. We were greeted and seated immediately upon walking in without a reservation, the restaurant was only about half filled being it was mid week and about an hour before closing so that didn't seem odd or anything other than what you'd expect. Once seated we did find the wait to be longer than you'd expect to at least meet the server, but once she showed up everything was fine and we never waited on anything, she provided exceptional service throughout our entire dining experience. We ended up ordering a 10" Mambo Meats Pizza and I decided to try a cup of their vegetable ham soup - this homemade soup was delicious I actually at the time wished I had ordered a bowl verses a cup. Our pizza arrived within a reasonable time, hot and crispy topped with amazingly fresh ingredients the pepperoni and salami was of such high quality and the fresh cheese was so delicious and stretchy, the bread and the tiramisu was equally good- there is no doubt we selected the right restaurant in regards to the quality of the food and service... read more

The food and service was excellent here. However, some things could be improved. Our reservation got messed up on their end so we had to wait an extra 30 minutes while walk-ins got seated before us. They comped us our appetizer to make up for it but then our dessert was served to us in a to-go plastic cup. Still delicious but probably won't dine in again on a busy night if at all. read more

I've heard a lot of mixed reviews about this place and while i like it i think that it can be really hit or miss. While it is "pricey" i would actually say the prices here are comparable to the olive garden dinner menu. I always get the fettuccine con pollo with gorgonzola sauce and it's soooooo good. it's creamy and flavorful and if you haven't tried it definitely check it out next time. Mambo's is one of those places that you hear a lot of people talk about around town. It has the locals all say, they have some of the best flavors for Italian food. Grabbed lunch there. They don't have a lunch menu, so the prices are the same anytime. The prices are not bad for this kind of food for lunch. Tried the Cabonara, I haven't had it in a long time. Quick service on ordering and getting to the kitchen. While waiting, noticed on the walls, they have a lot of art for sale by local artists. I'm not an art collector, it did seem kind of nice. You may want to check it out yourself if you like paintings. The Carbonara came and looked really great. The first bite was more then I expected. The was so rich in luxury food taste. Very creaming and packed with flavor. Bacon, and the creaminess of the sauce. The chef really knows how to make this dish correctly. Pleasent surprise, I knew they were good, but this was a little extra on how well they made it. An honest review is what I provide here always. So I decided to try Mambo Italiano tonight. Ordered the Chicken Parmesan. It was terrible. The chicken was okay and the sauce was dry and too spicy. Sauce was served with rigatoni pasta that was under cooked. Came with ann odd side of carrots and zucchini and mushrooms. Server was not at all concerned at all to ask if I enjoyed my meal, seei G as I hardly touched it. This is not truly Italian. Seems Bellingham does not know how to make true Italian food. They should visit and try Ciao Bella's in Anacortes. This is the truest Italian in the Pacific Northwest. Service was very poor and waitress was not ever paying attention. Small place.
