Mambo Seafood on Long Point served our seafood fix this past weekend. Sure we can go to places like PappaDeaux, Rockfish, or Eddie V's, but nothing beats Mambo fried rice. I also tried something new besides my usual friend rice and variety of fried seafood. This time, it was their Chipotle Fish and Shrimp, which was a little spicy but the sauce was pretty good. Plus, I had my Michelada to wash it down. The atmosphere was lively on an early Saturday lunch. The restaurant was almost full. Still, the service was good. Our waitress was quick to take our order and available when we need her help. When it was all said and done, the total bill was less than we expected. I'd say we would be back here again. read more

Restaurant atmosphere is everything. It's what makes people want to stay and hang out versus taking their food to go home. Consider investing in some booth and other sorts of room dividers, so that patrons can enjoy their meals with more privacy as a family than sitting in a huge open mall. Had a fantastic lunch experience today. My husband and I ordered Crawfish Mambo Style and the Mixed grill with shrimp and fish. First off, the flavors were out of this world. The crawfish were seasoned perfectly and tossed in what tasted like a spicy garlic butter mixture. The grilled shrimp and fish had great grill marks and were some of the freshest we have had. Secondly, the Famous Mambo Rice (with shrimp) is really as good as everyone says. It's essentially a Mexican fried rice and would put any fried rice to shame for that matter. I don't often write negative reviews, but this place has definitely earned their One-star and I would give it less if I could. My wife and I ordered 2 lbs of cooked tilapias to go, once we got home, one of the orders had a roach drowned in the butter used to cook the fish. I immediately contacted the restaurant by phone and told the manager what had happened. Instead of an apology, I got excuses and a list of their methods of cleaning and inspections. She told me that it was the first time it had ever happened and that she had never seen an order being returned for a bug. She practically implied that I was lying about it. We took the fish with the roach back to the restaurant, and once again got excuses instead of an apology. Before finally giving us a partial refund, the manager had the audacity of offering us coupons as compensation instead of our money back. We declined and told her we will not be returning to their location. If you buy food here, make sure that you inspect it before you eat it! read more

Today I payed another visit to one of my FAVORITE places to eat at, as always the food was to die for, it's always so fresh and ready to eat and the service was amazing ( our waitress Heidy was very attentive, just excellent! ) but unexpectedly I will have to say something negative about today. The air conditioning was not anything to laugh at. I felt like one of the lobsters they cook there, it was BOILING!!!! My baby and I were drenched in sweat and his little face was turning red as if we had been outside the whole time. I let the waitress know and she later informed me that the manager had lowered it already. To be honest, I'm not sure I believe that, I feel as though they thought I was just another annoying customer complaining and I'm not. Every time I go here with the family I always buy the special fried rice. It's really big so a large dish is good enough for 6 people to eat. After we order the food we assumed it would be ok since she apologized but my soup came yet my friends food never came. I was absolutely overjoyed to see the amount of rice and the size of my talapia when my order came. Perfectly fried, to the point where I could eat the side bones of the fish without having to worry about a stuck bone. Perfectly seasoned rice, which had decent amount of shrimps!! My husband ordered 2 pieces fish and 6 pieces shrimp meal and love it, the fishes were scrumptious. I also ordered the fish and shrimp cocktail, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The fish fillets and shrimp were both over breaded and under sized. When asked about what kind of fish, even they had no idea of it's source. My friends have been mentioning Mambos for some time and I always see it on the road when I pass it in several locations. Finally submitted and went with them. My first impression? Butterfly and mashed, then battered to make it look bigger! Wow! The nerve! No wonder it's so cheap! I ordered the Mambo chelada- With a Dos Equis. It's hard to mess one up and it's actually their signature drink. So that was good. Next, we ordered the Talapia plate with shrimp fried rice. The talapia had a fishy smell. I couldn't continue after a bite. But my friends didn't seem to mind the smell since they covered it up in Tabasco. No thank you! We also ordered the chicken wings with celery. It was okay. Nothing spectacular since it was drench in what seemed to be a buffalo, hot sauce. Ranch please!!! And lots of it!! Then we ordered the 6 fried shrimps and 2 fried fish plate. It comes with shrimp fried rice , but I ask to substitute for the mambo fried rice and I would pay the difference. So the waitress takes my order, (she barely spoke English) but good thing I can speak pretty good Spanish being Asian, and the manager comes over 5 minutes later and informs us that they can sub rice. That we would have to by the mambo rice separate! I don't like making a big deal at a restaurant, so I quickly agreed to go ahead and order the mambo rice full charge! That was the best thing of my meal. Was the mambo, which is actually a combination fried rice. The fried shrimp was lacking. So thin. And the fish is fishy! I found the food very underwhelming, but what do you expect?? They're not targeting a refined palate. This food just gets the job done without hurting your pockets. I can see why it stays packed. Will I ever come again? I even told my comrades, I would never suggest it, but if there's a game on and we want something cheap and filling, bam.
