I gave 2 star only because the food is always good, however the service was HORRIBLE!!!!!!! They took forever to greet us at the table and take our drink order. They never brought our shrimp cocktails and to top it off the food took a long time to get to the table. They brought our entre before our appetizer. We had about 4 waitresses help us out, so we never knew who was actually helping us out. I did mentioned it to the manager, but he seemed to not care. I was a customer of Mambo's at this location since their opening. Today I tried to place an order to go. Amongst the things ordered I asked for a "vuelve a la vida" cocktail but asked for no cilantro, I was told that the pico mix they have has cilantro in it. I asked if they could chop an onion and a tomato and add that, the lady who took my call said "I'll ask the kitchen see if they'll do it" and put me on a very brief hold and told me that no, they couldn't do that. This is a seafood restaurant, I wasn't asking for a live octopus with 16 tentacles. I just wanted no cilantro on my vuelve a la vida. I wasn't asking for something crazy. Just goes to show what little they care about life long customers. Or former life long. I'm taking my business elsewhere. EDIT: I got a call from Myriam and she was very cordial and polite. Stopped by here while car getting worked on at Meineke across street. I go here once a month, consistently good. Friendly wait staff even with minor communication problem with English. Had seafood platter, highly recommend, son had cheeseburger which was really a nice surprise when he said 'it is good as Whataburger!' We love Whataburger so had a bite, wow, one would not think such a tasty juicy burger in seafood place. Busy on weekends, if go during week I suggest time like we did about 2:30pm when place quiet. I was in the memorial area with my sister and we were craving some good seafood. We ended up finding this place in a not so nice part of town but figured out was good from how packed it was. Everything on the menu had a Mexican flair. We got the shrimp basket as well as the fish and shrimp plater each with the special mambo fried rice. While the fish and shrimp were good, the shrimp fried was amazing! It was Asian style but had the Mexican touch that I was expecting out of this place. Every time I come to this mambos they always take the longest with service. I always have to wait about ten to fifteen minutes just for a waiter to take my order. Not to mention, after you get your food it's like the forget to keep coming back to check on you. I've always enjoyed the shrimp cocktail..the #1 meal and their Micheladas. Today was no exception although the service sucked..they forgot my meal and I waited forever ugh!! Think these are solely only in ghetto areas but this is the closest one to me. I've been wanting to try it out cause I've had friends tell me how cheap and good it was. The staff was nice and helpful. We had a group of 16 people and had a quick dinner still. They let us pay for our checks up at the register and break it up so that was nice. When we went there wasn't a lot of people but they were tentative to refilling our waters and stuff. I'll give it to you short and dirty. Must try Mambo fried rice. Deep fried tilipia was pretty dang good. All others I tried were deep fried something and were not too bad but not mind blowing. So all in all, cheap decent food that I would eat at if I was in the area, which is why the 4 star. I would come again if I had a hankering for some deep fried seafood... or the fried rice. haha read more

My friends love this place! I think it's about as good as Long John Silvers that has a liquor license. It's like Timmy Chan's but with seafood. This place even smells like Timmy Chans, same owner? I went to the Mambo Seafood location on Longpoint for lunch on a Friday. The place was crowded and looked understaffed. The wait staff was running all over the place as if they were on fire, while customers waited patiently. Feeling that we might get served quicker, we sat at the bar. One problem we discovered was that one of the guys behind the bar did not speak English too well. When we tried to order à la carte, he gave us look as if we were speaking Martian. Unfortunately, my Spanish is "No Bueno." Once our shrimp and rice came out, it was OK. If I were ever to return, I would definitely avoid any lunch time or dinner rush. read more

Wow, what an experience. Sad to say it was my first and last visit to Mambo's. My friend and I get here (it's a pretty slow night, mind you) and nobody comes to our table for 15 minutes. I start asking "Who wants a tip? DOES ANYBODY WANT A TIP?" as countless waitresses walk by. Finally, one stops and takes our drink order. 2 waters, 2 beers. 10 minutes later, we get 2 beers - no waters. Fine, we wait...we decide what we want to order - ANOTHER 20 minutes goes by nobody comes back to our table, beers are done and still no water. Finally, as we're about to dash since nobody wants to take our money, waitress comes back after disappearing to Narnia..we get our order put in. Food comes, it's cold...of course, because WHY would it be hot after having this LOVELY dining experience? Then had to flag down the careless assistant manager (Ignacio, I believe was his name) to bring us the check. Maybe the other locations aren't as bad, but I would stay FAR, far, far away from this one. read more

Well, due to time constraint and convenience, I went back again this Tuesday evening (4/29/14) for 3 items: Bacon wrapped shrimps, Garlic fish entree and a large seafood cocktail (fish and oysters). The entrees were okay. Bacon was kind of burnt but still eatable. However, they messed up my large seafood cocktail again (by giving me shrimp and oysters)! I made the order at the restaurant and specifically asked for fish and oysters. I should have checked everything over there, but you know, that night I was very tired and just in the mood to rush back home to eat. Why was it my job to check my order all the time? It's the restaurant job. I paid for the food and they should take care of the order. I was super duper disappointed and gave them a call immediately. The complaint was this: "Hey manager, you guys messed up like over and over and over, what was up with that? I am very sick of this crap. Now it is 9pm and I couldn't have dinner." *sigh*" She apologized and told me to come back for a replacement. Besides the replacement, I also got a gift card this time. Another surprise, after I got the replacement, I noticed that the container was bigger than the original seafood cocktail order. Oh man, they cheated me again! Remember I ordered a large one, but NOT a regular one! So let's say they didn't give me the wrong stuff, I guess I would be at loss! Seriously speaking! So to those who are very new to Mambo trying to order any "Large seafood cocktail", please be aware that they might cheat you (to go order). There might be a very slim chance they will do so if you dine in. But again, it never hurts to keep this in mind. After all these complaints, I don't have much energy/time to deal with them being dishonest and how they messed up the order like that. Note that all these times when I visited them, they weren't busy like mad house. No excuse on the language either as the cashiers were all bi-lingual. So there should be no excuse for giving me the wrong order. All I could think of is that they didn't pay attention to my order. Granted, they gave me free food, but it was very inconvenient to be out there at night. Long Point area wasn't safe and it wasn't fun to go there twice for getting my dinner order right. What a hidden gem! Good quality seafood if not fancy. Simple fried shrimp and fish is hard to beat. French fries are good but get the Mambo rice! It's basically fried rice and it's good! Calamari was also delicious. And the seafood gumbo... Oh man it was awesome. Had a small with dinner and ordered a large to take home. Outstanding. Really hearty portions too and VERY affordable. Probably my new go-to date night place. Very casual environment so don't expect fancy. Soccer game going on several TV's. Margaritas were mixed strong too. FINALLY We placed out food order with our drink order....... 2 Shrimp & Fish plates ....with a order of shrimp fried rice to-go. All the while others were seated AND almost immediately placing their food order 10 minutes go by ....our drinks arrive. Two tables away...... they get their food....... and they arrived AFTER we did !!! We are still waiting....... That same Table FINISHES their food ....while we are STILL Waiting .... Waitress come by and says "They haven't brought your food out yet " FIFTY MINUTES have PASSED since arriving....STILL NO FOOD !!!! Waitress bring our food ......ALL IN A TO-GO BAG !!!! They processed our complete order as a To-Go Order. We Paid and LEFT ! Not ONE Manager BOTHERED to Stop and Ask if their was a Problem...... Tell me that ANY Manager does NOT Notice ANY Table with NO food for Over 50 MINUTES !!! I love music but this place has it to loud. You can barely hear the person you're eating with. They will not lower the volume eather, I've asked twice. Food is aight, service SUCKS. All the waitresses look like they're gossiping all bunched up together by the jukebox NOT taking care of their tables. You almost have to tackle some one to get attended to. So called manager or supervisor comes around asking if everything is ok and when you tell her/him their service SUCKS they disappear. I'll definitely think twice before coming back. They miss 1 star because the camarones mambo were too salty for my taste, but otherwise the food was delicious. The street corn was not traditional, but still good. The mambo rice is probably the main reason my cousin took me here. I has the mixed grill with veggies and rice and I highly recommend it. My sister had the oysters, which according to her were soft and perfect with the lime and chile sauce. I guess it's good if you're into that. The tostada mixta was bomb.com, I would definitely go back just for that, AND you should have it with their michelada, I'm not a fan of micheladas but I will definitely have them at Mambo. I got s mambo combo to go. Comes with fried fish jumbo shrimp and a stuffed crab with rice and fries. I haven't been here in a few years because each time I go they get something on my order wrong. This time they got it right. I started eating my stuffed crab and sure enough, I find a hair in it. A nice long piece of hair. I decided to give this restaurant another chance. I visited on a Monday recently. Though the waitress was clueless as to the restaurant having sangria, she was attentive and the food was really good. While we had visited the restaurant in June for Father's Day and the fried rice was skimpy on shrimp, this time, the shrimp was abundant. Though I don't really order fried rice at other places to compare, it was delicious. The octopus we had as appetizer was super tasty with a chipotle sauce. It wasn't chewy at all. Then I had the grilled salmon. The outside was crispy and the inside buttery. Superb. The corn on the cob was accompanied by fresh cream or similar and it was al dente. My boyfriend had a whole fried tilapia and liked it. They have a new non-alcoholic drink called pepinada. The cucumber beverage is refreshing and not too sweet. I am eager to return to Mambo this time. By the way, they do have sangria. I saw another customer drinking one. And they had a flyer on the bulletin board with a photo of the pitcher and glass. read more

Pretty good seafood, and everyone loves the rice. HOWEVER -- on our most recent visit, the salads we were served were obviously day-old leftovers. Every piece of lettuce was at least brown around the edges; some was more brown than green. Really nasty. I wouldn't serve that to a hamster! read more

I've come to expect friendly service and great food from Mambo. This location is no exception. I ordered takeout from this Mambo location when I worked down the street on Gessner. The waitress who took my order spoke clearly and was very friendly -- my order of regular pork & shrimp Mambo rice "habanero style" was ready in 10 minutes. Everyone who I encountered when I went to go pick up my order was friendly and attentive. Keep serving great food and I'll keep coming! With takeout orders they give you a refrigerator magnet with their locations phone number which I think is a nice touch. NOTE: if you can't handle spicy save your money and don't order your Mambo rice habanero style. I was sweating while eating it -- trust me it's not a good look on anyone. read more

Unfortunately la mesera was very rude I just found out my son has a milk/egg allergy and since I breastfeed I'm unable to eat that as well, usual when I go to a restaurant the allergies information online is helpful but I was unable to find one for mambos so I thought I would just ask questions once I get there ( which I have never had a problem with) they usually just ask the chef if they don't know but this lady first told me she was able to make fried rice without the egg so once I order she comes and tells me they can and that I will have white rice (okay I'm fine with that but why did you say you can in the first place if you were unsure) then I have a question about the batter they use for the shrimp and she just said I don't know instead of just asking the chef so all In all a bad experience and I will be taking to an attorney about the allergies menu because what I'm being told is as a restaurant they have to have one. read more
